0:21

at tomscure.com slash tour. What's

0:28

it called when you get loose skin cut

0:30

off? Is there a procedure? Look,

0:33

I don't know what it's called, but Tom's

0:35

doing that this week, so he can't

0:37

be here with us. And I have an

0:39

absolute legend and a fellow runner. That

0:41

is my favorite part about you. Travis Barker,

0:43

dude, I watched your Cribs, I watched

0:46

your reality show, I'm playing a big 182.

0:48

Like, I'm not into cars, but the

0:50

kind of cars you're into, I'm into. And

0:52

I have a fear of flying, let's

0:54

fucking go. Let's go. Dude, so real quick,

0:56

let's talk about running. Okay, you ran

0:58

the two bears 5k. I did I just

1:00

showed up Someone had hit me the

1:02

night before at like midnight or one and

1:04

they're like, oh, there's a 5k

1:06

tomorrow. My first 5k I ever ran

1:08

Was your guys's and I

1:10

just shut up. I just showed up

1:12

and I ran I actually missed the

1:14

finish line at your guys 5k for

1:16

real. Yeah, just kept going straight Yeah,

1:18

cuz I I like saw things online

1:21

after that And they said, Trav just

1:23

showed up and ran and just ran

1:25

right off. It's actually because I didn't

1:27

see the finish line. And I just

1:29

kept running. It was the most bog -rock

1:31

thing ever. They're like, dude, showed up

1:33

like Forrest Gump, ran fast as shit,

1:35

and bounced. And we were like, damn.

1:37

Tom was like, I got to meet

1:39

him. It was cool. Dude, I always

1:41

had an eye out for you. But

1:43

you were incognito. You were like, hoodie

1:46

on. Yeah, I had a hoodie on. I didn't

1:48

really know. I'm not like a... I'm not

1:50

like a runner that knows what to wear

1:52

or what I'm supposed to do. I'm just like,

1:54

I just started running one day, very forced

1:56

gump, like, you know? Yeah. Like,

2:00

I know why I run. I

2:03

don't know why I run. I

2:07

just out of therapy, that was

2:09

a big mistake. Mmm. Yeah. Also,

2:11

like your head's all... Five minutes ago. Yeah.

2:13

Five minutes ago. You seem pretty calm and balanced.

2:15

Yeah, I have some shit to work through.

2:18

Yeah. I have some like legit, like one of

2:20

those bad ones where you're like, Bert,

2:22

why aren't you talking? Yeah. Yeah.

2:25

I feel you. No, but I think I ran because

2:27

I loved it. And then in therapy, I was

2:29

like, I think I ran because I was looking for

2:31

my dad's approval. Like,

2:33

and so I don't know why I run. Yeah. And

2:36

I'm running your 5k next week.

2:38

Oh, amazing. Amazing. That's cool. I did

2:40

yours. You're doing mine. I'm so

2:42

excited. It's in New Orleans. Yeah. February

2:44

8th. Yes. February 8th,

2:46

February 7th. I don't even

2:48

know. But what got you like?

2:52

You're you're an interesting dude

2:54

because I know you partied. I remember

2:56

in your rally show, you're just smoking

2:58

weed and I was watching you. I have

3:00

a very lasting memory of you. Your family's

3:02

at the restaurant. I think your in -laws were

3:04

there and you were in your escalate just

3:06

smoking weed. Hot box in the Cadillac. Yeah.

3:09

Just trying to get through that lunch

3:11

or that meeting. It was a It

3:13

was a wedding meeting, like about our

3:15

wedding, and it was just so tedious

3:17

and repetitive, so I had to get

3:19

high every time I walked into those

3:21

meetings, you know? But

3:23

yeah, years later, when

3:26

I found out I was having my son, I

3:29

just literally had this idea

3:31

like, I need to be a better human. I

3:33

need to be stronger. I need to

3:35

be faster. I need to be

3:38

like a good example. So I ran

3:40

to the freeway and back from the house

3:42

I was living at. It was about

3:44

four or five miles there and back. And

3:47

I just started doing that every day because I

3:49

knew I wanted to be better. And

3:52

around that same time, I walked into a boxing

3:54

gym, just started

3:56

boxing and jumping rope, like learned

3:58

how to jump rope. with this

4:00

boxer named John Brays, who

4:02

had a spot in the valley out here. And

4:05

I'd just never have left it. Even

4:07

when I wasn't sober, when I was

4:09

doing drugs, I would wake up and

4:11

run three to five miles a day.

4:13

For real? Yeah, for real. So I

4:15

party every night, usually, and

4:17

no drugs, just booze. Yeah. But I run

4:19

mostly, I run or work out to get

4:21

the poison out. If I don't do it,

4:23

I'm gonna fog all day. But if I

4:25

break it, where I feel like I'm gonna

4:27

throw up and I'm sweating, I'm

4:30

out of it. I'm out of the fog. And

4:32

is that why you did it? I did

4:34

it to balance out all the bad stuff

4:36

I was doing. I figured I'd start including

4:38

some good stuff. And then I

4:40

found no one I had to run the

4:42

next day. I couldn't do that

4:45

much. I needed to not take as

4:47

many pills. I needed to not smoke

4:49

as much. So to start a balancing

4:51

and then all of a sudden a

4:53

teeter tottered towards, well, it's a long,

4:55

long story. Years later, a teeter tottered

4:57

one way and I never went back.

5:00

When did a teeter totter? I don't

5:02

mind hearing the story. I actually just

5:04

saw it when I was coming to

5:06

your spot here. We exited,

5:08

I don't know what was that, was it

5:10

like Van Nuys or something? Van Nuys. But

5:12

I passed by the burn center I was

5:14

at. The Grossman burn center.

5:16

It's not the burn center anymore, but

5:19

that's where you were. Yeah, I

5:21

have like six months of just memories

5:23

being there. I had 30 something

5:25

surgeries Almost had my foot amputated so

5:27

I had I had all these

5:29

these these memories just driving here really

5:31

quick But long story short, I

5:33

got sober in a burn center because

5:35

I was in a plane crash.

5:37

I never went to rehab Never

5:40

I was I was beginning therapy and

5:42

I was in the mindset that I

5:44

wanted to get sober But I was

5:46

sort of forced to get sober Because

5:48

they were gonna they were probably just

5:50

give you whatever pills you wanted. Well,

5:52

yeah, I was there and I was

5:54

I think I had 30 -something surgeries

5:57

within a five to six month period.

5:59

What's a burn surgery? The

6:01

burn surgery is where you know, they

6:03

would take Cause like all the back

6:05

of my legs, 70 % of my body

6:07

was burnt. Like show me, like not show

6:09

me, but like, uh, like where I

6:11

said, I'm looking at your arms and they

6:14

don't look that bad. Yeah, you can

6:16

kind of tell like a tattoo dough over

6:18

everything. My leg, my legs, you can

6:20

really tell, but my legs, uh, all the

6:22

way up to like the top of

6:24

my back was all severely burnt. And

6:27

what they do is they take. Good

6:29

skin from the front of your body and

6:31

from the top of my back and

6:33

they use it to add to the skin

6:35

where you were burnt So would they

6:37

this is a really stupid question, but were

6:39

they mindful to just get the whole

6:41

tattoo and Bring it down. No, they can't

6:43

know it's like a cheese grater. They

6:46

like they just cheese grade your skin off

6:48

And then they place it it's I

6:50

mean it's amazing what they do like I

6:52

had the dr. Grossman is the best

6:54

at what he does and so is the

6:56

the gust of burn center i was

6:58

in in uh in georgia but yeah they

7:00

they basically use the good skin on

7:02

your body to replace all the burnt skin

7:04

do you know do you know sometimes

7:06

do you know how sometimes like you see

7:08

a video on instagram and it's someone

7:11

in a wheelchair and you always go like

7:13

man not not i can't imagine that

7:15

being me was there a part where you

7:17

when it first started you're like wait

7:19

this is fucking me this isn't my story

7:21

I mean, for sure. It started off

7:23

like that. It started off like that. Like,

7:26

I can't believe this happened, and I'm in a

7:28

burn center. But

7:30

then, when drugs

7:32

started wearing off, and

7:35

I started figuring out that

7:37

I also lost three

7:39

of my best friends, that

7:42

was... And the two pilots that were

7:44

in the plane, I was just like...

7:46

It's not really, it's even darker. It's

7:48

not about me. It's just

7:50

about everything. I just lost trust

7:52

in the world. I was like, how

7:55

did this happen? I was such

7:57

in a bad mental place, but... You

7:59

seem so good right now. No,

8:01

through all that, did a bunch of

8:03

post -traumatic work, fell

8:05

in love with running. And

8:08

is that why you're putting on these five K's?

8:10

Cause jelly and I jelly and I were talking about

8:12

it today and he was like, he's like, I

8:14

don't know why tribe's doing this. He's like, I think

8:16

he just, he's like, I don't know if he

8:18

realizes he's saving lives. Like

8:20

your fans, they're fans of yours that go, I

8:22

might get the chance to meet him. You know

8:24

what I'm gonna train for a five K and

8:26

then they get in shape or maybe they fall

8:29

in love with it. And then they go out

8:31

and run your five K, which the one you

8:33

did in LA was. Everywhere everyone talked about that.

8:35

That was like the hottest 5k. I mean it's

8:37

like I'm into 5k's I'm into races I grew

8:39

up running my dad ran marathons, so I grew

8:41

up going to them Okay, what's your favorite? Okay,

8:43

hold on What's your favorite race to run? I

8:46

Don't have one like like no like what distance? Oh,

8:49

I mean the half marathon is pretty

8:51

half marathon fucking gangster Yeah, it's the

8:53

best race. It's the best because it

8:55

is an accomplishment correct for sure I

8:57

felt so accomplished after doing it it

8:59

was I think I did your guys

9:02

5k and one of the 5k and

9:04

then I did the half marathon really

9:06

so yeah, I think for me it

9:08

was After everything I went through they

9:10

they actually told me I wouldn't run

9:12

they said you won't run again You're

9:14

you know from all the stuff that

9:16

happened to your your foot and your

9:18

grass You're not gonna be running again

9:21

might not be playing drums again So

9:23

I just started like checking off everything

9:25

they said I couldn't do like bam

9:27

Bam. And that's where I started getting

9:29

addicted to running. And then through these

9:31

5Ks, I meet people that are telling

9:33

me they've never thought about running or

9:35

walking a 5K. And I have all

9:37

these people that aren't normally outside, aren't

9:40

normally doing any kind of exercise that

9:42

are out there just like doing it

9:44

and doing things they didn't think they

9:46

could, you know, are capable of. So

9:48

that was really cool. And then I

9:50

just, like, your

9:52

guy's 5K. Gosh,

9:55

who did I run with? That was a

9:58

beast. Was it Cam Haines? Yeah. Do

10:00

you know Cam? We've talked before, just

10:02

like on Instagram. And right as

10:04

I go to the front, they're like, hey,

10:06

you want to set off the race? And

10:08

I'm like, yeah, yeah, for sure. And then

10:10

he's right there. And he's like, hey, what's

10:12

your mile? And I'm like, fuck. I don't

10:15

know what's with my mile. Like, I don't

10:17

really know what he's saying. It's like another

10:19

language to me. And then he's like, uh.

10:21

It was just kind of like, I don't

10:23

remember what it was, but to me, how

10:25

I translated it, he was like, trying to

10:27

keep up. That's what my head was like.

10:29

So I ran my ass off, just

10:32

basically trying to tell him. And

10:34

that's what I've noticed every race.

10:36

There's someone like him that just keeps

10:38

me going and I'm competitive with

10:40

that I don't even know before the

10:42

race. It just turns into your

10:45

person and you guys motivate each other

10:47

and you guys push each other. And

10:49

I love that. I'm

10:51

really into MMA, I'm into boxing, I'm

10:53

into watching people train, I'm into the hard

10:55

work that goes into something like that. So,

10:58

yeah, that's what running turned into for me.

11:00

You know what I do on a 5K? I

11:03

find a nice ass and I follow it.

11:05

There you go. Dude. It'll

11:07

get you through like the, when

11:09

you get to like mile

11:11

20, mile 22 on the LA

11:13

Marathon. Yeah. I'm running down

11:15

Sepulveda. I'm only like driving down

11:17

Sepulveda. Seriously. Running down

11:19

it is a bitch. Right, there's nothing

11:21

to look at. Nothing but

11:23

a great ass right in front

11:25

of me. And it was a

11:27

grown woman, like an executive type

11:29

of ass. But was nice,

11:32

jogging pants on, like long. And

11:34

it's the 22 miles, that's where the make or

11:36

break it. And I'm watching dudes fall off to

11:38

the side like zombies, like sitting

11:41

on the corner, their legs are seizing

11:43

up. And that woman shit her

11:45

pants in front of me. And it

11:47

went down and up. And I

11:49

went, oh, I gotta go, I gotta

11:51

go. This show is sponsored by DraftKings.

did it. I went and did it out of

15:45

a, uh, bet with Joe because Joe didn't think I,

15:47

Joe said I, you can't run a marathon. And

15:50

I was like, I gotta do it with no training. I was

15:52

like, my head, I was like, the Native Americans walked

15:54

from Florida, Oklahoma. I think I can, the

15:56

human body is impressive. And so,

15:58

I mean, I don't think I had the same motivation

16:00

they did, but I said, you know, I think I can,

16:02

I'm gonna run a marathon, no training. And so I

16:04

went out and ran the LA Marathon with no training. And

16:07

it felt

16:09

good, but it

16:11

was, I, I enjoyed the half marathon

16:13

the most yeah half marathon was the

16:15

same lift in my opinion with a

16:18

better party afterwards yeah 5k is like

16:20

Chinese food it's I do them like

16:22

the day of my show every everywhere

16:24

we go you know cuz I'm running

16:26

like I run I run three miles

16:28

every day I try to so especially

16:30

on tour I kind of got this

16:32

thing in my head where I have

16:34

to do it before the show so

16:36

I'm already doing it Might as well

16:38

do it with as many people as

16:40

I can. So you're putting on 5Ks

16:42

every time before a show? I

16:44

did one in LA right before our

16:46

SoFi Stadium show. And then I did

16:49

one in New York right before a

16:51

show there. Yeah. And then, yeah, this

16:53

one, I happened to be out in New Orleans for

16:55

a Blink show. So after seeing everything

16:57

that happened with the fires, I'm like, can't

16:59

run here to benefit Los Angeles for the

17:01

fire. So I'm going to do it out

17:03

there. Oh, so this is benefiting. Your 5K

17:05

is benefiting the fires out here. Yeah. Oh,

17:08

hell yeah, then my whole team is doing

17:10

it. Fuck yeah, and we're paying the entry

17:12

fee. Hell yeah, I mean, I'm not

17:14

gonna pay it, but they'll pay it. Dude,

17:16

can I tell you a wild story? Yeah,

17:19

of course. So, who's the

17:21

band that, you may not remember, the band

17:23

that opened for you guys in L .A.,

17:25

when you guys played, I think, SoFi

17:27

maybe, or the Forum, or who's the band?

17:29

This last time? Yeah, this recently. Pierce

17:32

the Vale? Pierce the Vale, fucking

17:34

Pierce the Vale. So my daughter says

17:36

to me, I need Pierce the Vale

17:38

tickets. My daughter's, now she's 18, she was 17

17:40

at the time. I need Pierce the Vale

17:42

tickets. And I was like, okay. And so,

17:44

you know how you do, and I'm sure you do,

17:46

like you call your agent and you're like, oh, can

17:48

I get Pierce the Vale? I'm not familiar with them.

17:50

My daughter's obsessed. And she was like,

17:52

they're like, yeah, we got her. We get great seats for

17:54

Pierce the Vale. She comes home that

17:56

night and I was like, how's Pierce the Vale? She's like,

17:59

have you heard of a band called Blink 182? I

18:02

go, yeah. She goes, dad?

18:05

They're fucking amazing. She

18:07

goes, we went to see Pierce

18:09

the Vale. They went on before

18:11

Blink 182. Blink 182, dad, they're

18:14

incredible. I was like, wait, hold on,

18:16

you went to a Blink 182 concert

18:18

thinking you were there for Pierce the

18:20

Vale? I thought that was so fucking

18:22

funny that my little girl would go,

18:25

come home, just lit up. Yeah,

18:27

I mean, it's probably her age group probably

18:29

is more familiar with Pierce and then we

18:31

were just a bonus that she didn't know

18:33

about maybe. I don't know. I'll take it

18:36

though. That's good. Yeah, it was cool shit.

18:38

Yeah, I just that. I thought you were going

18:40

to tell me she was covered in sperm confetti

18:42

and you were going to be like, what happened?

18:44

Why is that happening? But

18:47

yeah, we I always think about it when

18:49

I met shows like I was at Billie

18:51

Eilish and just confetti drops and we have

18:53

sperm confetti so everyone leaves covered in sperm. So

18:56

I can't wait to drop that order.

18:58

Yeah That's crazy So that's that's cool

19:00

though. I would I was thinking about

19:02

that for my next tour I don't

19:04

know when that'll be but I was

19:06

like what if you did put on

19:08

a 5k every every because I run

19:10

so cool I run I lift weights

19:12

every day on tour. I have a

19:14

what's your schedule on tour look like

19:16

Hmm, I wake up. I usually walk

19:18

for an hour Just kind

19:21

of clear my mind and then I'll have

19:23

some kind of caffeine like matcha or coffee

19:25

and Then I'll hit some weights and then

19:27

run. Yeah hit my three. Take a nap

19:29

Mmm once in a while if I can

19:31

doze off it's like five minutes even if

19:33

it's on the way to the venue I

19:35

might not even be sleeping, but my eyes

19:37

are closed. I'm listening to some when I

19:39

was They were talking about your fear of

19:41

flying. I have a fear of flying. I

19:43

have a real you always in a bus

19:45

to live in a bus Oh, so

19:47

you... I think we used to have

19:49

the same bus driver from time to

19:51

time. Ron? Yeah. Black dude? Mm -hmm.

19:53

The best. He sounds like he's

19:55

from the Bay, right? He

19:57

sounds like Eve 40 every time he talks.

19:59

It's the best. Because

20:03

he would always tell me, yeah, I'm driving Bert.

20:05

I'm driving Bert. Ron's

20:08

like a brother to me. He's like a

20:10

brother to me. I mean, we're so close. We

20:12

actually we have we We stopped working together

20:14

for a while and he just took me to

20:16

Vegas and we had a great dinner and

20:18

he was like man Bert we got too close

20:20

and I and I apologize if I ever

20:23

did stuff wrong and I go like what he

20:25

was like that time I pulled a gun

20:27

on you. I apologize He pulled a gun on

20:29

me one time. Oh, yeah, Ron and I

20:31

got Ron and I are like brothers. I love

20:33

him to death man. I love him to

20:35

death. He is uh Man,

20:38

I've you've got me off track because

20:40

I don't think it Iran stories first time

20:42

first of the day. I fell in

20:44

love with Ron Some girl snuck on the

20:46

bus and snuck into my room and

20:48

and I'm pretty public about I'm open about

20:51

like I'm I don't you know my

20:53

wife I mean I think everyone should be

20:55

but like it should know that like

20:57

I'm married and I'm happily married It's my

20:59

cousin founder and we pull the bus

21:01

over like yo This isn't cool.

21:03

We got to get you off. We had

21:05

then we had to wait for an Uber

21:07

to come get her at some bus stop

21:09

and so bus station or whatever bus, you

21:11

know gas station and Ron's just like this

21:13

like she was hot too and We get

21:15

uber picture up uber picture up and Ron's

21:17

sitting in the bus chair and he turns

21:19

out he kind of holds Corp in that

21:21

in that little doorway and he goes Bert

21:23

Can I tell you why you're a man

21:25

of good fortune? I said why is that

21:28

and he goes because you just said no

21:30

to that sweet pussy I said,

21:32

really? And he goes, yeah, man, man,

21:34

this job, it fucked up my

21:36

first marriage. I go, you're

21:39

just a bus driver, Ron. And he goes, you'd be

21:41

shocked what a bitch will do for an Ellie headband. I

21:45

was like, that's my new best friend.

21:47

That's my new best friend. That's so wrong,

21:49

too. Yeah, I'm a bus guy. And

21:51

I heard that when you were in Europe,

21:53

you're a boat guy. So

21:56

for years, it was

21:58

about a tour bus ride after

22:00

my accident. Yeah, while I was

22:02

in the burns. Can we talk

22:04

about your accident for a

22:06

second? Yeah, if you want to

22:09

Horrific fear of flying. I've had

22:11

it forever and I think I'll

22:13

die probably from my lifestyle on

22:15

planes before I ever die on

22:17

a plane crash What how

22:19

quick does it happen? It

22:22

was quick everything was really

22:24

quick I

22:26

was I was like you I

22:28

was white knuckling every flight even before

22:30

my my plane crash I already had

22:32

a fear of flying almost to

22:34

the point where I always think back

22:37

and I'm like gosh did I manifest

22:39

this because I was always It was

22:41

just always in the back of my

22:43

head. I was always afraid of flying.

22:45

I was always avoiding it and then

22:47

Yeah, had it all happened pretty

22:49

quick It happened on takeoff, right? Yeah

22:51

tire blew out mm -hmm and Do

22:54

you get thrown around the plane so

22:56

I'm surprised so I'm imagining you're probably

22:58

not wearing seatbelts. No, I was wearing

23:00

a seatbelt. Oh, I was wearing a

23:02

seatbelt and yeah I was the only

23:04

one awake like I just was like

23:06

because I was the only kind of

23:08

nervous flyer to But yeah, I wasn't

23:10

sober I had taken a few pills

23:12

had a drink smoked a couple of

23:14

blunts in order to even get on

23:16

the plane and go home that night

23:18

because I was like, ah, we have

23:20

a we have a commercial flight tomorrow

23:22

like It's just whatever. Everyone

23:25

wanted to get home, so we booked a private. Yeah,

23:30

tires blew on takeoff, plane

23:33

went out of control, caught

23:35

fire, and then

23:37

hit an embankment. And

23:40

then everyone was dead on impact

23:43

besides me and A .M. He

23:45

was the only person I could

23:47

get to, because he was on

23:49

the side of me. And

23:52

I I went forward to try to

23:54

get to everyone else and my arms caught

23:56

fire my hands caught fire and then

23:58

that's when I Jumped out of the emergency

24:00

jumped into the jet that was full

24:03

fuel. Were you able to do the thing

24:05

that they say? Fuck yeah,

24:07

I got out of that plane

24:09

so quick like my fighter flight

24:11

was on I grabbed I grabbed

24:13

DJ a .m. Well came

24:15

up Open that door.

24:17

Yeah. Well, he yeah, I had to

24:19

shake him He was the only

24:21

person I could get to and then

24:23

open that door and then jumped

24:25

out and you jumped in the jet

24:27

fuel I unfortunately jumped right into

24:29

the jet fuel. Yeah, and then Yeah,

24:31

my whole body caught fire ran

24:34

for some distance alongside a highway and

24:36

then Couldn't figure out how to

24:38

get my body off fire and then

24:41

Someone in the car was like, stop,

24:43

drop and roll. And I could hear

24:45

it out of everything, out of all

24:47

the noise and the sirens and everything

24:49

that was going on. I did that.

24:51

And then AM patted out like the

24:53

last bit. It was like my socks,

24:55

cause they were like super, you know,

24:57

soaked in fuel. And

24:59

then, yeah. And then a few seconds

25:01

later, like maybe a minute later,

25:03

like the plane. Like completely like burst

25:05

into flames and then yeah, that

25:07

was that was pretty much everything but

25:09

it happened so fast like Taking

25:11

off is the worst thing for me.

25:13

I'm back flying now. It's been

25:15

almost 17 years I've flown for the

25:17

last two years, but take off

25:19

is like The worst thing imaginable for

25:21

me, you know, what what got

25:23

how did you get back into a

25:25

plane? Hmm.

25:27

Well, I spent a lot of time

25:29

off of it. Like you said took the

25:31

bus would drive from LA

25:34

to New York to get on

25:36

a boat from New York to

25:38

London, which was another 10 days.

25:40

So I did all this for so long. You know

25:42

how sexy I find that. Like, I go, give

25:44

me that life. I'll do that. I would love that.

25:46

If you told me, you you got a show

25:48

in London, but here's the deal. Take

25:50

a train to Chicago, going to drive to

25:52

New York, and then we're getting you on

25:54

a fucking bus, a boat across the Atlantic.

25:56

Yeah. I'd be like, yeah, man. But I'm

25:58

not doing that sober. I'm doing that drunk.

28:25

five or six transatlantic crossings. Shut the

28:27

fuck up. Yeah. Is it rough?

28:29

In the Queen Mary too. There's times

28:32

that it's rough, but it's not

28:34

bad. I mean, it beat flying for

28:36

me for a long time. I

28:38

would just have to leave two weeks

28:40

before a tour to get there. And

28:42

then the guys would leave, you know,

28:44

obviously the day before tour was over.

28:46

It took me two weeks to get

28:48

home, you know? So...

28:51

dang, but um, but yeah, I mean

28:53

I I love I loved I love

28:55

traveling in a bus and then Then

28:57

some hit me Around the same time

28:59

I met my wife I was like

29:01

man fuck anything that has power over

29:03

me like I was just weeding all

29:05

that around out of my life like

29:08

I was Running towards anything. I was

29:10

afraid of at the time. I was

29:12

just like fuck this fuck that like

29:14

I'm not gonna be weak like nothing's

29:16

gonna have power over me and Flying

29:18

was the next thing I was just

29:20

like, I'm gonna do it. And then

29:22

I had told her, I said, just

29:25

surprise me when it's gonna happen. I'm

29:27

down to try it. So she didn't

29:29

tell me, went to airport, flew

29:31

to Mexico. And it

29:33

was like... Private or commercial? Private. But

29:36

yeah, and which was even kind

29:39

of sketchy. What size plane? I

29:41

mean, it's different too, because it's

29:43

like... wife's sister's plane. So I know

29:45

the plane's legit. I know like

29:47

it went through maintenance. So

29:49

that was... My wife doesn't even have a sister.

29:53

God damn it. Damn it. Yeah. No,

29:55

but that was pretty... I was pretty comfortable because I

29:57

knew the situation. I knew who owned the plane. But

29:59

yeah, flight to Mexico was cool. Flight

30:02

back was cool. And then I just started

30:04

knocking them off, you know? My

30:06

third flight that I took, we

30:08

started losing cabin pressure. It

30:11

was terrible. And I'm

30:13

like, and I feel it. I'm like,

30:15

babe, my ears, it feels like we're

30:17

landing right now. She's like, you think

30:19

so? And I'm like 1 ,000%. Like your

30:21

ears aren't plugged. And then I'm looking

30:24

up and the door to the plane

30:26

is open. And I see them, they're

30:28

like, I see them stressing. And I

30:30

see homie grab the oxygen. And

30:32

I'm like, babe, I'm going up to

30:34

talk to them. Something's up. Go

30:36

up there and he's like, you're right. We're losing

30:38

cabin pressure. We're trying to talk to so

30:41

-and -so. We're trying to figure it out. If we can't

30:43

figure it out in the next five minutes, we're going

30:45

to land. Luckily,

30:47

like five, 10 minutes later, they figured

30:49

it out. The plane was

30:51

okay, but that was the only

30:53

close call that I've had since

30:55

my accident, which kind of set

30:57

me back for a few flights,

30:59

but yeah. I

31:01

figure that there's like a million

31:03

things that could kill me, right?

31:05

You know being in a bus

31:07

they say is way more dangerous

31:09

for us than being in a

31:12

plane. I just think they say

31:14

yeah, I just feel like it's

31:16

a little less Just it's just

31:18

not as horrible or horrific as

31:20

a plane crash. Yeah bus crash.

31:22

Yeah. Yeah on a bus I

31:24

just it maybe it rolls and

31:26

I think I got some chances.

31:28

Yeah pillows in my room and

31:30

then and then But You

31:33

have no idea how I've had some rough flights

31:35

and I've flown a lot, I've flown a lot.

31:38

But I've refused, I try dashpally not

31:41

to fly private now because I

31:43

just have never enjoyed it and I'm

31:45

paying so much money to do

31:47

something I really, really hate. And

31:49

I don't get to fly in

31:51

your sister's good plan. I'll

31:54

send you her number maybe. I

31:56

know her dad pretty, or mom, you know

31:58

what I mean. I did pretty well. I

32:00

know Caitlin, right? Is Caitlin? The

32:02

sisters? Kate, yeah, some of the sisters. The

32:04

one that's got the plane now? Kendall

32:06

and Kylie. Yeah. And then, but who's playing

32:08

thing? Two of the girls, two of

32:10

the girls have planes. Jesus Christ.

32:12

Yeah. What's that like?

32:14

You're like a, I mean, I

32:16

mean this, I hope this comes

32:18

off right. But like, they're kind

32:20

of like American royalty. Yeah.

32:22

That family. And you're like a

32:24

regular kid who's doing good at college.

32:27

Just played the fuck out of some

32:30

drums and yeah. Played in punk rock

32:32

bands my whole life. Yeah, and then

32:34

you just roll into that family and

32:36

it's it's gotta be a fucking whirlwind

32:38

Yeah, I mean, I'm not It's not

32:40

like I live in the same neighborhood

32:42

as them or anything and I like

32:44

all them like I knew Kim before

32:47

I knew court like, you know, my

32:49

wife So I don't know I'm just

32:51

unapologetically myself. So I never feel like

32:53

out of place or yeah, whatever, you

32:55

they don't seem like people that would

32:57

put you out of place No, they're

32:59

they're all They're all super normal

33:01

too. Like they're not I Don't I

33:03

don't know what anybody thinks about them But

33:05

maybe it's cuz I'm so close to

33:07

everybody that they're just they're just normal people

33:09

like us It's like I mean this

33:11

for a lack of my only experience would

33:14

be it's like people talk about Rogan

33:16

like like he's this fucking huge star and

33:18

I just know Joe like I have

33:20

actually a hard time wrapping my head around

33:22

Like he might have affected an election

33:24

like I go. Yeah He's awesome and Joe's

33:26

so cool. Joe is cool. Shit. Your

33:28

episode you did with him was really cool

33:30

because you were like, you were talking,

33:32

I think you were talking about your vegan.

33:35

Yeah. And I didn't know, I didn't know

33:37

Joe goes for vegans pretty hard, you

33:39

know? Now that I listen to Joe, like

33:41

I listen to other ones and it'll

33:43

just be like, oh yeah, I heard someone

33:45

so as vegan. Oh gosh, why doesn't

33:47

he eat your fucking steak? Whatever. I'm like,

33:49

damn, Joe didn't go hard on me.

33:51

And I appreciate it, you know, because like,

33:53

um, I don't know. I didn't know

33:55

that about him. But a lot of people afterwards were

33:57

like, damn, you know, you're one of the only people

33:59

he didn't go at that's vegan. And

34:02

I don't know why, but yeah, we

34:04

had the same Moly Tye coach, Sean.

34:08

So we had like a lot of

34:10

people in common and like some boxing

34:12

guys. Did boxing help? Do you have

34:14

a problem with confrontation? Oh,

34:16

I do. Really? Yeah, yeah. Oh, bad.

34:18

And Joe told me if I

34:20

got into jujitsu, it would help with

34:23

that. Yeah, but I have a

34:25

hard time with confrontations. I'll just avoid

34:27

it. I'll avoid it entirely like

34:29

someone can do something mean to me

34:31

and I just I Could just

34:33

get vengeful and then I just go

34:35

I'll just talk behind their back

34:37

No, I don't know I think it

34:39

helped like I think MMA and

34:41

boxing and jujitsu is I think it

34:43

humbles you yeah, yeah, all of

34:45

them humble you I feel like it

34:47

kind of controls your anger and

34:49

your attitude or or thinking

34:51

you're invincible. It was very humbling

34:53

for me, and I love it,

34:56

you know? How did you get

34:58

to here? Because I always, you

35:00

are probably one of the most

35:02

well -rounded, grounded dudes I've ever had

35:04

a conversation with in just 30

35:06

minutes and 16 seconds. I'm like,

35:08

man, I want this. What pill

35:10

does he take in the morning

35:12

to get this? I

35:14

don't want to have nothing to have power

35:16

over me. I want to be like,

35:18

fuck it, I'll just do it. Wanted like

35:20

that like but you weren't always like

35:22

this, right? Mm -hmm. I mean, I know

35:25

I know the moment where Where I figured

35:27

out like anything I was afraid of

35:29

I was gonna kind of or anything that

35:31

was causing trauma to like my my

35:33

plane accident caused a lot of trauma that

35:35

I didn't really do with And I

35:37

was in a massage actually one time you

35:39

like massages. Yeah, it's the best Yeah,

35:42

so I was in a massage in this

35:44

massage therapist. She's like you're holding on

35:46

to a lot of shit and I was

35:48

just like You know

35:50

the stuff you don't want to hear and

35:52

I'm like what you know and then She's

35:54

like you should try breath work, and I

35:56

was like okay, and then my friend Lucas

35:58

who wasn't my friend yet, but there was

36:00

this guy who like Tattooed and had to

36:02

tell he would hit me sometimes wait wait

36:05

I think he hit me up really yeah,

36:07

he's like do you do the Paul brothers?

36:09

Yeah, he hit me up. He's like y 'all I

36:12

can help you I can help you breathe he's

36:14

the truth so like he always hit me and

36:16

I'm like guy looks

36:18

like me, he's gonna teach me how to breathe,

36:20

whatever. I don't know, I don't know. You know

36:22

how that happens sometimes? And I'm like, okay. And

36:24

then one day I just hit him back and

36:26

I'm like, yeah, let's do it. And

36:28

even going into it, I had all these

36:30

restrictions in my head like, I'm not

36:32

gonna, I'm not gonna fully let go. I'm

36:34

not gonna fully immerse myself into this

36:36

and you know, this and that. I think

36:38

I was kind of a little nervous

36:40

about it. And then I did it. Ended

36:43

up doing breath work for an hour

36:45

a half with them ended up bawling

36:47

my eyes out like I couldn't even

36:50

control it. You're almost in like You

36:52

feel high you feel like you're on

36:54

another planet once you get into like

36:56

the rhythm of breath work and I

36:58

started dealing with all this trauma and

37:00

it was such a game changer for

37:02

me and I did it I actually

37:05

did it the day before we flew

37:07

my wife and I did it together

37:09

and it was like just every time

37:11

something like People that have passed

37:13

came to me like it's it's been so

37:15

healing and I and I didn't really I didn't

37:17

really know anything about it or believe in

37:19

it But it was it was really helpful for

37:21

me. This is how broken I am I

37:23

heard what is an hour 45 minutes of breath

37:25

work. Mm -hmm. I go can we do that

37:27

like 15? No, I thought

37:29

the same thing but you know all those

37:32

things that You like think about and

37:34

you're like fuck I don't want to do

37:36

that everything I just have to I

37:38

heard on her podcast the other day. I'm

37:40

like she said She

37:42

said you basically got to pretend like

37:44

well, I could die tomorrow So I

37:46

am gonna do it and I'm gonna

37:48

do it, you know 110 % and everything

37:50

I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of think

37:52

about because Kind of tomorrow is not

37:54

always there, you know And I started

37:56

thinking about that just with whatever anything

37:59

that I had coming up like fuck

38:01

I don't want to go to rehearsal

38:03

Shit could be your last rehearsal. Go

38:05

kill it. You know that that kind

38:07

of mindset. So wow, okay All right

38:09

Just get the lazy out of us,

38:11

you know or the the hardship the

38:13

hardships the good shit. Yeah, I like

38:15

I like I Do that with working

38:17

out. I said to jelly today on

38:19

our walk where a friend of ours

38:21

passed away Kenny Flores He's on my

38:23

podcast is sweetest guy in the world

38:25

and I saw that the other day.

38:27

Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't know how

38:30

much I meant to him. Yeah, and

38:32

I met his friends and his family

38:34

last night or his friends mostly and

38:36

they were explaining how him doing my

38:38

podcast, we did Something's Burning, was such a

38:40

big deal, and then I saw a post today, and

38:42

I said to Jelly today, I was like, you know, I'm

38:44

bummed, because I really liked hanging out with him, and I

38:46

was hoping we could party one more time, or a couple

38:48

times. I think I was like, well, run into him a

38:50

few more times. Well, party a few more times. I

38:53

said to Jelly, I was like, I know you don't live forever, but

38:55

I was like, I thought he'd be here tomorrow. But

38:57

that's how life works. It's

39:00

just sometimes you're not there for tomorrow. Yeah.

39:04

Yeah, I feel like... You have to

39:06

seize the day and like not

39:08

think of things like I have to

39:11

do this more like I get

39:13

to do this You know, it's like

39:15

a blessing. I get to do

39:17

ad reads. You get to do ad

39:19

reads You get to do therapy

39:21

get to do fuck off No, seriously

39:24

this I walked out of therapy

39:26

real cool. I can't wait to talk

39:28

to Travis Barker My wife's like

39:30

I'm sorry. Sorry What

39:34

what what started you being

39:36

afraid of flying when I was

39:38

When okay two things happened

39:40

within the same week, I think

39:43

Was it Luke Campanella The

39:45

catcher for the Yankees died a

39:47

plane crash and I walked

39:49

into my dad's office and I

39:51

said What year was Luke

39:54

Campanella? What year did he die?

39:57

Roy Campanella That can't be it

39:59

No, it was a different catcher

40:01

Maybe it was, I forget, there

40:03

was a famous person who died

40:05

in a plane crash. And I

40:07

went into my dad and I

40:09

said, wait, what does that mean? And

40:11

he said, he's dead. And I said,

40:13

did he have kids? And he goes, yeah. And

40:16

he said, I said, what's that

40:18

mean? He goes, he'll never see them again. And

40:20

I was like, hold on, what's that,

40:22

like forever? He was like, yeah. And

40:24

then we flew to, maybe we've been in Roberto Clemente

40:26

and that was, I was zero, I was zero then.

40:28

I forget, my dad told me that story. That's one

40:30

of the things. And then the first plane flight I

40:32

took, As they were

40:34

taking off, I said to my mom, I said,

40:36

okay, okay, that's high enough right there. And we're

40:39

taking off. She goes, honey, we're going higher.

40:41

I go, no, no, no, no, we're good right

40:43

here. We're off, we're flying. And they

40:45

go, we're going real high. And when we went

40:47

above the clouds, I just started fucking, panicking for the

40:49

whole flight. Here's the problem. I don't mean to

40:51

take up the sound. I wanna hear you talk, but

40:53

I'll tell you this, because we're both of a

40:55

fear. I was terrified of

40:57

flying. The last sober flight I took, I

41:00

was 18 years old. And we were

41:02

flying to the Virgin Islands, me and my

41:04

whole family. There's a graduation present to

41:06

me. And my mom,

41:08

oh god, this is getting

41:10

into therapy, shit. My dad and

41:12

my sister were making fun of me because I

41:14

was scared. And I started crying uncontrollably. It was a

41:16

terror. I was a panic attack. And they were

41:18

still making fun of me. And it

41:20

was bad. And then when we landed, my

41:23

dad goes, that shit was real? And I was

41:25

like, yeah. And when I'm

41:27

on our flight home, my dad took me to the bar at

41:29

the hotel we were at. And I was panicking that we had

41:31

to fly home. My dad goes, buddy, let's

41:33

get you a couple of rum runners. You'll be fine. And

41:36

he bought me two rum runners and I drank them.

41:39

When we got to the airport, I was like, I could

41:41

use like one more and I should be good. He

41:43

bought me two more. I killed him. I've

41:45

never flown sober since. I've flown sober since I've done

41:47

it a couple of times, but that started my

41:49

problem drinking on planes. Yeah. Yeah, that

41:51

started my drug problem. Flying

41:54

before my accident in order

41:56

for me Number one just to

41:58

leave my kids and go

42:00

on tour for three months in

42:02

Europe. I'd have to Take

42:04

a handful of pills smoke a

42:06

blunt and have a shot

42:08

of tequila. What was your favorite

42:11

pill just to get in? Norcos

42:14

oxy cotton percocet I was a

42:16

Santa X guy. Yeah Xana any

42:18

anything really anything that'll numb me.

42:20

Yeah, and that's what that's what

42:22

led to my my drug problem

42:24

to begin with was flying It's

42:26

kind of weird and then at

42:28

the end When I don't need

42:31

to fly anymore. I have no

42:33

drug problem You know, I didn't

42:35

need to really numb myself anymore.

42:37

So same thing and same kind

42:39

of similar story like I Think

42:41

I was terrified of flying from

42:43

the time I was a kid

42:45

Because my first flight my mom

42:47

though was the nervous flyer who

42:49

was bawling and was so scared

42:51

the whole flight, so it taught

42:53

me I'm seeing her so afraid

42:55

of this. So I was just

42:57

terrified of it my whole life.

42:59

We didn't have any money, so

43:01

never really had a worry about

43:03

flying anywhere until I was in

43:05

a band. And we

43:07

were like touring. God, dang. It's

43:10

crazy the trauma that our parents passed on to

43:12

us. Yeah. That was what my therapy was about. Yeah,

43:14

it's wild. It's so wild. It's

43:16

crazy. Yeah. that therapist pinpointed something

43:18

like so quick and my wife already

43:20

knew the answer and she was

43:22

just sitting there like just this like

43:24

this marmy like and I was

43:26

like just say it she's dying to

43:29

say it it's my dad okay

43:31

it's my dad yeah yeah yeah therapy's

43:33

pretty pretty amazing though it really

43:35

is yeah yeah but you seem pretty

43:37

fucking all together you in great

43:39

shape do you go to the doctor

43:41

a lot I mean when I

43:43

when I need to I just try

43:46

to Got we're doing the

43:48

pre -nuvo scan coming up here. So that'll be

43:50

interesting I'm gonna do that interesting, you know, it

43:52

would be a I know I'm gonna be

43:54

scared. Yeah, I'm gonna be there's a party me

43:56

that scared keep canceling it to be honest

43:58

with you It was like I was supposed to

44:00

do it this morning and I'm like nah,

44:02

you know, I got to do Bert's podcast I

44:04

have this vans panel and I'm playing this

44:07

show tonight. It's not it's just a weird morning

44:09

for me, babe And then the other day

44:11

they were like they were like We

44:13

were supposed to do the the the scan

44:15

and then they oh they put you in

44:17

that fucking thing Yeah, I have this filter

44:19

from when I was in the Bern Center

44:21

in Augusta, Georgia, and it's an IBC filter

44:23

Which is another terrible story that they put

44:26

in me because when I got when I

44:28

got to the hospital They're like you have

44:30

tons of blood clots. We need to put

44:32

an IBC filter in you Well, it's an

44:34

IBC filter that they put in 80 year

44:36

olds because it has a life expectancy

44:39

of 20 years. So I

44:41

had that in me when I was like 30. So

44:43

I don't know when this IBC filter is

44:45

going to break. But they're

44:47

like, we need the info on that before you can

44:49

get the pre -nouveau scan. And I was like, babe,

44:52

I don't have the info. We can't do it.

44:54

So I've been avoiding it, but I am going to

44:56

get to it next week. I

44:58

kind of just want to know. If

45:01

my assistant's listening right now. he's

45:03

going like, they might be the

45:05

same fucking person. I schedule my doctor's

45:07

appointment and then I'm like, and

45:09

for me it's always like liver enzymes. Like I need some

45:11

time to not drink so I can go in so I'm healthy.

45:14

And so I'll be like, yeah, you know what,

45:16

that's a bad weekend for me because I got

45:18

a couple of somethings burning. You know what, let's

45:20

push it. And at one point it got so

45:22

bad that my sister's like, hey, we have to

45:25

do this. I go, I'm not asking, I'm telling.

45:27

And I was like, we push it by two

45:29

weeks. And

45:31

I was like, whoa, this is, this is me

45:33

running away from something I don't want to deal

45:35

with. Yeah. God. Yep.

45:38

All right. Let's talk about something fun. Okay. Cadillacs.

45:42

Cadillacs. Yeah. Cadillacs, Chevy's,

45:44

anything GM, anything General Motors. Really?

45:46

So, so you always a car

45:48

guy? I was.

45:50

Same thing. Like, uh, my dad loved

45:52

old cars, like growing up. We really...

45:54

Do you have brothers and sisters? I

45:56

do. I have two older sisters. Oh.

45:58

Do you like do you make

46:00

so much fucking sense to me? Yeah,

46:02

yeah, cuz if you saw I

46:04

only work with women mm -hmm female

46:07

energy is my energy. It's like, I

46:09

feel like I'm a little safer with women.

46:11

I don't know, I have like, my tour manager's

46:13

a woman, my manager's a woman. And

46:16

then I think, I gotta be

46:18

honest with you, I think I would

46:20

so enjoy being married to Kardashian,

46:22

cause all that female energy in that

46:24

house, I'd be like, I'm home,

46:26

dress me in black and let's go

46:28

out. Yeah, no, my house is

46:30

pretty much, I mean, we have seven

46:32

kids together. Half boys, half girls.

46:34

Your daughter has the coolest fucking name ever.

46:36

Which one? Alabama? Thank you. Yeah, she

46:38

was named after true romance. I ran into

46:40

Patricia Arquette the other night. You did?

46:42

I was like fucking Alabama. Best.

46:44

The fucking coolest name? movie. My daughter's name

46:47

is Georgia. Really? Yeah, Alabama's a

46:49

badass. We couldn't pick Alabama because my

46:51

wife grew up in Georgia. But that's

46:53

a badass fucking name. Keep going, I'm

46:55

sorry. Yeah, I

46:57

know my dad had an old Cadillac

46:59

growing up in our backyard that that

47:01

didn't work, but I knew how much

47:03

it meant to him. So he would

47:05

always show me like old Chevy trucks

47:07

that he had when he was younger

47:09

and go to car shows and stuff

47:11

as a kid. So yeah,

47:13

I just, I love old cars.

47:16

I'm not, so like, I'm not a

47:18

car guy, right? Like I don't

47:20

care what car I drive, I'm at care, but like I never,

47:22

I couldn't even tell you what the numbers are on the

47:24

back of my car. Like I know a Mercedes, but I don't

47:26

know what it is. Yeah. Got it

47:28

through a broker so that totally makes sense

47:30

to tracks. I just give me that one. Okay.

47:32

I like it My wife has is a

47:34

car person. She hasn't won and I wouldn't

47:36

tell you I couldn't tell you what those numbers

47:39

are. I know I like big trucks But

47:41

when I had to buy a new car,

47:43

I was like I really want like the 76

47:45

Cadillac convertible El Dorado like that's the sexy

47:47

car to me Yeah, it's long still. It's

47:49

two door. It's just but it's

47:51

comfortable for four people. Yeah, it's just

47:53

the badass car And then I

47:55

started looking around and then I just

47:58

got lost in the weeds. I

48:00

was like, I was like, there's so

48:02

many. Yeah. You really got to like figure

48:04

out, there's so many options. It really

48:06

like what, what cries out to you, you

48:08

know? Yeah. Um, to me,

48:10

it's like, yeah, boring cars are

48:12

not it for me. Like, you know

48:14

what I mean? Like I'm like,

48:16

um, yeah, like in Paula's, I

48:18

think growing up where I grew up, there

48:20

was like a lot of low riders and yeah,

48:22

and hot rods and stuff. So I have

48:24

a few in Paula's. I just picked

48:27

up 96 Impala, which is like the

48:29

last year they made the big body

48:31

Impala. And it has 454 miles on

48:33

it. It's beautiful. But it's kind of

48:35

a car unless you really know, people

48:37

might mistake it for a bucket and

48:39

just think it's just like, you know.

48:42

Oh, is that it? No, that's my 63.

48:44

I have a 63 Impala too. I've

48:46

had that car for like 20 years. 63

48:48

Impala is sexy. a Grand National GNX.

48:50

Oh, shut up. Grand National GNX, pull that

48:52

up. Is that like the

48:54

Monte Carlo almost? Yeah, it looks like the

48:56

Monte Carlo. But it's same

48:58

thing. It's like most people would just

49:00

be like, a bucket. Yeah, but it's like...

49:03

So wait, is this the car that

49:05

they were... I deep dove, I follow a

49:07

lot of black dudes in Atlanta that

49:09

restore cars, but the black dudes' tastes in

49:11

cars are unique. They're very unique. And

49:13

the Monte Carlo was like one of the

49:15

most coveted cars in that community. Yeah. Carlos

49:19

Miller, shout out to Carlos Miller. He's

49:21

from 85 South, you familiar? They're

49:24

comedians but they have a great podcast

49:26

called 85 South. You should meet Carlos

49:28

because he's a big car guy too.

49:30

But we were talking about it and

49:32

the money Carlos or the GNX's I

49:34

think, they released so few of them

49:36

that then they would then put out

49:38

a newsletter to go, hey, just so

49:40

you know, we're doing like an upgrade.

49:42

So if you want to bring your

49:44

car in, it was like fascinating. was

49:46

almost like... niche

49:49

culture before the

49:51

internet. Like, I think

49:53

that's the coolest fucking thing. I

49:55

mean, I think the internet makes those

49:57

cars cool because people start talking about

50:00

it. Yo, there was only 500 of

50:02

these. You know what I mean? McLaren

50:04

designed the engine. It's just like, there's

50:06

not a better car. Do you

50:08

have a white whale, like a car

50:10

where you're still looking for it? I

50:14

mean the first big body Impala is

50:16

58 too. So if I had the

50:18

first big body Impala, the 58, and

50:21

then the last the 96, that'd be

50:23

pretty cool. I have a 59 Impala.

50:26

I'm fixing up right now and then I'm

50:28

a sucker for Chevy trucks too, like

50:30

K5s. Yeah. Yeah, I have a couple 72

50:32

K5s. I just got, I just got

50:34

turned on to, and like I said, I'm

50:36

not a car guy, but I just

50:38

got turned on to Petina trucks. This.

50:41

Beautiful. Petina trucks. Same same thing

50:43

guitars like that too that are like

50:45

derelicts that are like Fucked up

50:47

in the most beautiful way that it

50:49

looks worn, you know Yeah, it's

50:51

like a vintage t -shirt, you know,

50:53

but it's a guitar or a car

50:55

and you just like preserve it

50:57

like that I almost bought a shirt

50:59

off a dude on the street

51:01

Yeah, this is the coolest fucking shirt.

51:03

What was it? 1979,

51:05

the whaler in from Boston, Massachusetts.

51:07

And it was, you could tell, I

51:09

was with my daughter and you

51:11

could tell this dude bought that shirt

51:13

there. He was an older man.

51:15

Yeah. And he bought that shirt there

51:17

and he'd been wearing it ever

51:19

since and it was so fucking perfectly

51:21

worn in. And I said to

51:23

my daughter, I go, fuck. Go

51:25

into those stores the thrift stores. Just

51:28

find dudes like that and go how much

51:30

for your shirt? Yeah back. Did you

51:32

say it? No, I thought weird. I did

51:34

the same thing I was in I

51:36

think I was in Canada and Every time

51:38

I go there. There's a vintage shop,

51:40

but there was like a younger Like kid

51:42

that was working there that was coming

51:45

to the show tonight He was a fan

51:47

and I'm like this kid has the

51:49

illest Willie Nielsen shirt on and it's a

51:51

black black t -shirt Perfectly

51:53

like destroyed and it's Willie like flipping

51:55

them out. My dad's the biggest Willie Nelson

51:57

fan. I was raised on Willie Nelson,

52:00

Johnny Cash, Buck Owens and I was Buck

52:02

Owens the best. Do not get my

52:04

I'm bringing Dwight Yocum on stage tomorrow night

52:06

at the Dead Thing. Oh amazing. And

52:08

my and my wife that's her one hall

52:10

pass and it all starts with Dwight

52:12

with Buck Owens. She's taken me up to

52:14

the Crystal Palace a couple times just

52:17

to sit up there listen to music and

52:19

drink. That's amazing. Keep going. I cut

52:21

you off. I'm sorry. The

52:23

story is I have I told the youngster.

52:25

I know you're coming to the show tonight I

52:27

don't really want anything else in the store,

52:29

but I want this t -shirt and I'll trade

52:31

you anything I'll buy whatever so I got it

52:33

and it I almost I almost bit my

52:35

tongue and I didn't say anything I'm like I

52:37

got to have that fucking shirt I got

52:39

I'll give you whatever you want for it, you

52:41

know, so I have it and Yeah, it's

52:43

pretty cool. Do you like fame? I

52:46

don't really think about it much.

52:48

You've been famous for like You've

52:50

been famous for my whole adult

52:52

life. Like I feel like being

52:54

able to throw five K's and

52:56

raise money for like incarcerated firefighters,

52:58

LAFD, I feel like that's cool.

53:00

That's a cool way to use

53:02

like people knowing who I am,

53:04

but I don't really like, I

53:07

don't really think of it other than

53:09

that, you know? I think if anything, cause

53:12

I'm, I am like a,

53:15

I don't know, I'm like a dad. hang

53:17

out with my kids and I go

53:19

to the studio every day and run and

53:21

exercise like I think sometimes me and

53:23

my wife were just like we just want

53:25

to be normal like we pretty much

53:27

live a pretty normal life really you know

53:29

yeah that's cool yeah whereas like I

53:31

don't know I think if I don't know

53:34

you know how sometimes you're just like

53:36

I don't and I think we move like

53:38

that too or not like I heard

53:40

someone tell a story one time and they're

53:42

like Paul McCartney was was

53:44

like telling a story to a certain

53:46

person I know and he was like, you

53:48

know, you don't need a bunch of

53:50

security. You don't need a bunch of handlers.

53:52

Like if you want to go to

53:54

the grocery store, start going to the grocery

53:56

store every day at the same fucking

53:58

time and let the at the grocery store

54:00

get used to seeing you, suddenly you'll

54:02

do it and no one will bother you.

54:04

It'll be really normal. Yeah, but his

54:06

best friend got shot. Who,

54:08

Paul McCartney's? Yeah. But I mean, just

54:10

think of that. Think of that idea though.

54:13

Think if like if you don't actually that's

54:15

I I don't I love Paul McCartney Yeah,

54:17

me too. That's exactly how John Lonnie got

54:19

murdered was he took the same path so

54:21

the guy could find him Crazy same time

54:23

went to do the same thing. I mean

54:25

like that's like crazy advice Yeah, that's what

54:27

happens when you're so famous no one

54:29

questions you yeah, I was like that's great

54:32

advice Paul I think it's just about doing

54:34

I think it's about doing stuff where people

54:36

Like appearing normal move like you're normal and people

54:39

will treat you different then what if you

54:41

don't what if you're not normal like okay because

54:43

today I was in the grocery store and

54:45

I got recognized and I said to my I

54:47

was with Stacy that lady just met and

54:49

She goes it's cuz you're just loud. You're just

54:51

a large person and I just I was

54:53

like I just was, the lady, I bought a

54:55

bunch of steaks for my sister's birthday. The

54:57

lady said, can I come to the party? And

54:59

I went, yeah. And then as she left,

55:01

said, I'll see you tonight. I said, you better

55:03

show up. And then everyone looks at me

55:05

and then they go, hey, Bear, what's up? But

55:07

you are covered in tats. And

55:09

you were covered in tats before that was

55:11

like a thing. Like you, and,

55:13

but so like when you show up, people,

55:15

you draw the eye automatically and then they

55:17

go, oh shit, I know that guy. That's

55:20

fucking Travis, that's Travis Barker.

55:22

Holy shit. Like. Can

55:24

you can you just go to the grocery store? I

55:27

will but like how you handled it

55:29

like you acted normal, right? Yeah, you were

55:31

like, oh, yeah, yeah for sure you

55:33

go to the party whatever I feel like

55:35

that's what you do and then they

55:37

just like oh, it's just Bert whatever you

55:39

know what I mean? Yeah, people just

55:41

start to treat you like You're normal and

55:43

like you want to be treated. I

55:46

know normal I do like fame and I

55:48

think it's gross talked about that in

55:50

therapy really. Yeah Yeah, I mean, I think

55:52

it's cool to like Be able to

55:54

have people know who our band is and

55:56

make songs that people can Use to

55:58

get through whatever they may be going through

56:00

or something that that's cool, but I'm

56:02

not like Stoked like I go somewhere. They're

56:04

like, oh, that's Travis Barker. You know

56:06

what I mean? Yeah, I don't I don't

56:08

know and if and if they do

56:10

say that I'm like, um, I'm humbled and

56:13

I'm like, oh, I'm honored whatever that

56:15

you like a song idea or a an

56:17

album I produced or I don't know

56:19

ran a 5k with me whatever I'm cool

56:21

but I'm like I don't know it

56:23

doesn't that's not it doesn't really make my

56:25

Dick hard, you know like being famous.

56:27

It's like whatever. Yeah, we're doing a we're

56:29

doing I got I should say this

56:31

by the way also because jelly would kill

56:33

me if I didn't We're doing two

56:35

bears 5k again in Tampa this year. I

56:37

thought yeah, we're doing it me and

56:39

Tom and jelly is a part of it

56:42

and It's gonna be fucking huge and

56:44

if you want to come we'd love to

56:46

have you. I would love to be

56:48

there Yeah, I saw you guys announced the

56:50

other day. Yeah, we're so pumped. We're

56:52

gonna party on the field at Raymond James

56:54

Stadium after the 5k And it's kind

56:56

of it's I'm so excited your guys set

56:58

up at the one I went to

57:00

was so cool with all the the wellness

57:02

stuff and I think it had like

57:04

cold plunges cold plunges saunas We had a

57:06

bunch of workout equipment. We had a

57:08

rope climb We had free beer sampling and

57:11

porosos bunch of hydration stuff Hydration is

57:13

my shit. I take I get like two

57:15

IVs a week really. Yeah, but it's

57:17

so I can party. Yeah, I just drink

57:19

elements. I actually I I clot my

57:21

blood my blood my blood is not the

57:23

best so I get blood clots really

57:25

easy Yeah, so I just have to drink

57:27

a bunch of elements. I drink. I'm

57:29

like crazy about water. Really? Yeah, I drink

57:31

four liquid deaths right before I go

57:33

to bed every night. Yeah, just murder great.

57:35

I murder him Dude at the last

57:38

I think it was our last 5k In

57:40

LA, I ran, and then everyone's like,

57:42

hey, go gold plunge. And our cold

57:44

plunge, I didn't realize, was just this

57:46

big tub that everyone had been in

57:49

all day. It was fucking gross. So

57:51

like, yeah. Do you guys do

57:54

anything like that? Or is it like, um? When

57:56

we got the cold plunge, we

57:58

got done. And they're like, jelly, Tom, Bert, we

58:00

got cold plunges set up for you. And we go

58:02

to walk over. The girl goes, hold on, hold

58:04

on, hold hold on. Let me change the

58:06

water. And I was like, what? She goes, it's

58:08

been a minute since I've changed the water. So they

58:10

redid it. Smart. I had this kid that was

58:12

like, yeah, you're going to go in traffic. And I'm

58:14

like, all these people are watching. I'm like, yeah,

58:16

I'm going to get in whatever. It was like, it

58:19

was disgusting though. But yeah, they got a foot.

58:21

I like the idea of it being there. But yeah,

58:23

we got to figure that out. Yeah. So what

58:25

do you got? What are you going to have at

58:27

this one in New Orleans? I'm excited. I

58:29

don't know. This one's super last minute.

58:31

I was originally I was going to

58:33

do it in LA just to do

58:35

a five K in LA. Then the

58:37

fires happened. And then everyone said no

58:39

one's gonna run in this air like

58:41

the air quality is terrible Yeah, so

58:44

I was gonna be in New Orleans

58:46

for Spotify and I said let's throw

58:48

it out there and let's I think

58:50

I feel like everyone knows how Terrible

58:52

everything was that just happened in LA

58:54

that that hopefully everyone will go run

58:56

and like we can raise some good

58:58

money for it Where's it at? It's

59:00

at hang on. I know where it's

59:02

at all of a dumb dumb park

59:06

Auditum Park Auditum Park at 9

59:08

a .m.. What time you run it?

59:11

9 a .m.. You can run 9 a .m..

59:13

Whatever I think we're announcing a few

59:15

bands to I think end it end it

59:17

from Baltimore is gonna play like this

59:19

really great hardcore band Yeah, yeah, what music

59:21

do you listen to? I listen

59:23

to everything I was like you were cuz

59:25

you were you still are kind of like

59:28

I Don't you the person you and maybe

59:30

Tommy Lee but you a little more so

59:32

where the first person introduced me the fact

59:34

that drums are in everything They are. Like,

59:36

I didn't know that until I'd see you

59:38

on something. And like, I think I saw

59:40

you in Post Malone and doing during the

59:42

pandemic. And I would like, you just would,

59:44

and it was like so cool that I

59:46

was like, you really are into everything. Yeah,

59:48

I grew up on rap music, like

59:50

jazz and country for my pops, hardcore

59:53

and punk rock. Anything

59:55

that was involved in skateboarding as

59:58

a kid kind of like raised

1:00:00

me. Can I show you something?

1:00:02

Yeah. Last

1:00:04

night. Look

1:00:06

who you guys gonna edit this out if you

1:00:08

want to give a fuck last I got it last

1:00:11

night. We did a Tony Hawk and Jason Ellis's

1:00:13

podcast Oh, cool live. I know both them very well

1:00:15

and I said to Jason Ellis Along to I

1:00:17

said to Tony one time I want to learn how

1:00:19

to Ali I never I'm big skateboarder But I

1:00:21

never knew it learned how to Ali and once you

1:00:23

learn how Ali you really open the door to

1:00:25

a lot of fun and skateboarding by just and I'm

1:00:27

too old So last night they said you still

1:00:29

can't Ali and they said I want to see how

1:00:31

bad your Ali is So they brought a board

1:00:33

on stage. Okay, so this is last night now mind

1:00:35

you Jake Tony Hawk has always told me, I

1:00:37

can get you to Ollie and five, if you give

1:00:39

me five minutes, I can get you to Ollie.

1:00:41

Okay. So that this is them.

1:00:44

That's always if you're bringing out a

1:00:46

board. Okay. And the first one

1:00:48

you'll see is my weak ass Ollie. Okay. So

1:00:53

that's me on the board. By the way, I'm pretty drunk. Okay.

1:00:58

And then that's my attempt at an Ollie.

1:01:00

Now, Tony Hawk says, okay, let me help

1:01:02

you. I'm going to hold you back and

1:01:04

I want you to try it again. Okay.

1:01:06

52, never Ollie did in my life. Take

1:01:08

a look. Dude,

1:01:11

I fucking Ollie. And I saw

1:01:13

the first one. And you're drunk. And

1:01:15

I'm drunk. Wow. I texted

1:01:17

Tony hard. It looks like he pushed you forward, so your

1:01:19

board went up, you know? So you know what he

1:01:21

did? He said, when you Ollie, you're

1:01:23

moving backwards because you're scared. And Ollie is a forward

1:01:25

motion, so I just need you to move forward.

1:01:27

So he just moved me forward. Whoa.

1:01:29

That's amazing. Dude, that was

1:01:31

a good Ollie. Thank you,

1:01:34

that's crazy I was I woke up

1:01:36

this morning, and I texted him I texted

1:01:38

him and Jason I said I woke

1:01:40

up a different man. I ollie It was

1:01:42

so cool. It's so cool when you

1:01:44

learn how to like do you remember honestly?

1:01:46

I can't believe that he him just

1:01:48

like posture in your body made you Olly

1:01:50

that much better than your first Olly

1:01:52

that was insane. It's great. It sucks that

1:01:54

I can only Olly with Tony Hawk

1:01:56

I Need him in order to skate. Yeah,

1:01:58

he just goes by you and just I

1:02:02

was up all night thinking of ways like an

1:02:04

Ollie I go so if I put my dip

1:02:06

rack in my bed and I just I gotta

1:02:08

practice my Ollie That's so good, dude. It's like

1:02:10

crazy. Do you remember when you learned how to

1:02:12

play drums when you first started and you're like

1:02:14

with your feet? I think the feet's the hardest

1:02:16

thing about the drums, right? Yeah,

1:02:18

I mean I started playing on

1:02:20

pots and pans and then my dad

1:02:22

and mom Thought they should give

1:02:25

me a drum kit and they were

1:02:27

they were right. My son's the

1:02:29

same way my son Rockies is 15,

1:02:31

14 months old, and he's the

1:02:33

same way. He just plays on everything.

1:02:37

I also practiced all the time while he

1:02:39

was, you know, in his mom's stomach, and

1:02:42

he just plays guitar. Now I'd

1:02:44

be like, you know, practicing

1:02:46

for something like a crazy, I couldn't

1:02:48

even do that. So

1:02:51

even when I do it to this day,

1:02:53

he'll go to sleep. If I just start tapping

1:02:55

or I like practice on a practice pad,

1:02:57

he goes right to sleep. Really? And he does

1:02:59

the same thing with guitar. So it was

1:03:01

like that, but then they just fed me. They

1:03:03

just kept feeding me stuff like, hey, you

1:03:05

want to go try to take a lesson? You

1:03:07

want to do this? And yeah, really, like

1:03:09

it was like one of those things that it

1:03:11

was like the one thing I was really

1:03:13

confident in because I practiced so much and my

1:03:15

dad and my mom had such a strict

1:03:17

regiment for me. Like you have to practice two

1:03:20

to three hours. You can't go out. You

1:03:22

can't go play with your friends. So I would

1:03:24

just go in there and play something, you

1:03:26

know? But I think,

1:03:28

and I love to skateboard when I

1:03:30

was a kid, luckily I had good friends

1:03:32

around me that were like, you're way

1:03:34

better at drumming than skateboarding. Just keep playing

1:03:36

drums, you know? And I did, but

1:03:38

yeah, figuring out that thing that you love

1:03:40

or that you're passionate about that doesn't

1:03:42

feel like, it doesn't

1:03:44

suck. It really builds

1:03:47

confidence. Yeah, and it doesn't feel

1:03:49

like work. Yeah. And what you said

1:03:51

is like when you're, the confidence. Like

1:03:53

when you put your 10 ,000 hours into something

1:03:55

and someone's like, hey, do you want to try

1:03:57

this? And you're like, I feel confident. I'm ready

1:03:59

to try this in front of everyone. Yeah. It's

1:04:01

a cool feeling. Yeah. I think AM used to

1:04:04

say something. He used to say, like, find something

1:04:06

you love and figure out a way to get

1:04:08

paid for it. That's like, that's life right there.

1:04:10

Yeah. You know? I'm bummed

1:04:12

he's not alive. Yeah, me too.

1:04:14

You see his documentary? Yeah. Pretty,

1:04:16

pretty amazing. Yeah. Especially like. They

1:04:19

used him narrating that documentary from the

1:04:21

last time he spoke at a

1:04:23

meeting. Pretty incredible. It was

1:04:25

pretty incredible. And I tell you what,

1:04:27

I just, I, I, uh, you

1:04:30

guys were all like the MTV famous

1:04:32

group where it's like you did your cribs

1:04:34

and you guys all, didn't he like

1:04:36

date Nicole Ritchie or something? And, and like,

1:04:38

so like that was like the whole

1:04:40

Paris like, and I was, you know, I

1:04:42

was found that, I don't know what's wrong

1:04:44

with me, but I always found that very cool.

1:04:46

And I know you, you're all my age,

1:04:49

but I looked at you guys like, God, would

1:04:51

be cool to be a part of that

1:04:53

life and be a part of these scenes. I'm

1:04:55

a close cyber goddess. I went to a

1:04:57

Rod Stewart's daughter had a party. Oh

1:04:59

yeah, Kim. Yeah. Yeah. And they

1:05:01

took away the caviar from me.

1:05:04

So I didn't know you. I liked it. And so

1:05:06

I was just eating it. And they're like, that's not

1:05:08

for you. That's the

1:05:10

only party. That's all close. I forgot. But I'm

1:05:12

not that kind of person. But I always thought you

1:05:14

guys were all so cool. That was cool. I

1:05:16

remember seeing you had an escalator and I was like,

1:05:18

oh, that's badass. I want an

1:05:20

escalator. I was poor and I was like,

1:05:22

those are like cool dreams. Like you get your

1:05:24

cribs and you show your cars in your

1:05:26

house. I was like, oh, that's cool on that.

1:05:29

That'd be badass. Yeah, that was a weird,

1:05:31

that was a cool time. It

1:05:33

was also all the money I had to buy that

1:05:35

escalated at the time and whatever house I was

1:05:37

living in. I remember my friend came to me one

1:05:39

time. He's like. Trav

1:05:41

like you're like hood rich like you

1:05:43

just buy cars and I'm like I know

1:05:45

huh like he's like sell some of

1:05:47

them buy a house and I finally did

1:05:49

but sell some of them because I'd

1:05:51

see like hot boys like Lil Wayne and

1:05:53

juvenile I just see them always buy

1:05:55

cars and that was like That's what I'm

1:05:57

gonna do. You know, I was like

1:05:59

I just want to buy cool old Cadillacs

1:06:01

and whatever, you know The hot boys

1:06:03

were so fucking good dude. I ran into

1:06:05

them. I ran into them on the

1:06:07

sunset at the hotel right across from the

1:06:10

store the because they ran

1:06:12

into them in like 2000

1:06:14

and 2000. They were

1:06:16

right at their high and it's Lil Wayne,

1:06:18

Juvie and BG. So hard. They were so

1:06:20

good. I geeked out. I had to check

1:06:22

with me and I was like, you can

1:06:24

beat it. I was like, yo, Wode, what's

1:06:26

up? So good. God,

1:06:28

man. Who's your favorite celebrity

1:06:30

you ever met? I know

1:06:32

it's got to be weird because it's like... It's

1:06:35

hard. I don't even know because there's someone in

1:06:37

music where you met and you kind of geeked out

1:06:40

You're like, oh shut the fuck up Prince. Yeah,

1:06:42

I love I love that's one.

1:06:44

That's part of my favorite artist

1:06:46

of all time Love Prince. God

1:06:48

Prince was yeah, let me from

1:06:50

Motorhead to had like a really

1:06:52

cool like just like Hang with

1:06:54

him before one of his shows

1:06:56

And like Mickey D his drummer

1:06:58

at the time was in King

1:07:00

Diamond. I loved both of them.

1:07:02

But yeah, I don't know I

1:07:05

think probably Prince and Lemmy are like

1:07:07

the big ones. I

1:07:09

was pretty geeked out to meet

1:07:11

you. I was curious what car you

1:07:14

were going to drive in. I

1:07:16

drove the Escalade V. Have you seen

1:07:18

that? Oh, no. Is this

1:07:20

the electric one? No, not the V. It's

1:07:23

a hog. It

1:07:25

has crazy exhaust. It has more

1:07:27

horsepower. It has

1:07:29

sport features. It's

1:07:31

nasty. It

1:07:33

just looks like an escalate, but this

1:07:35

this motherfucker is mean So yeah, that's like

1:07:37

my my daily driver if I'm not

1:07:40

driving to old school. I only drive old

1:07:42

schools pretty much If I'm going on

1:07:44

a date with my wife or bringing one

1:07:46

of the kids out somewhere or or

1:07:48

just to the studio and back When if

1:07:50

you had one tour I do this

1:07:52

thing. I'm not good at what I do

1:07:54

is I ask a question then I

1:07:56

answer it Yeah. So you understand what I'm

1:07:58

asking? I do the same thing. My

1:08:01

partner, Tom Segura, says it's called making

1:08:03

it all about myself. But it seems like

1:08:05

I only asked questions so I can

1:08:07

answer it. But if you had one tour

1:08:10

that you look back and you go,

1:08:12

oh, I could do that exact tour for

1:08:14

the rest of my life. Like

1:08:16

how many tours have you guys

1:08:18

done? Like probably 20? I've

1:08:21

done so many. Yeah. I

1:08:23

mean, they're different. Like transplants,

1:08:25

like my other band, transplants. Distillers

1:08:29

and rancid that was a really

1:08:31

cool tour Cyprus blink and no doubt

1:08:33

was a really good tour Cyprus

1:08:35

blink and no doubt. Yeah, it was

1:08:37

a cool tour. And were you

1:08:39

supposed to leave them? I

1:08:41

was yeah, I was Definitely

1:08:44

smoking weed at that time. I

1:08:46

remember our last show we

1:08:48

Us and Cyprus and like Gwen

1:08:50

we all smoked and then

1:08:52

I usually don't smoke before shows

1:08:54

cuz I'm out there like

1:08:56

going Fuck wild, you know, I

1:08:58

need to have a lot of energy and

1:09:00

I remember we did it It was like

1:09:02

the last show and be real came in.

1:09:05

He's like, come on. Let's just smoke last

1:09:07

show before and like This show is so

1:09:09

fucking long. It feels like it's it's going

1:09:11

in slow motion and I'm like, oh my

1:09:13

gosh We're still playing this song like songs

1:09:15

felt like 11 minutes. I remember Tom came

1:09:17

to me and he goes And

1:09:20

I was like, he hit the energy

1:09:22

right there. I was like, Oh, I'd do

1:09:24

anything to just snap my fingers and

1:09:26

be home right now. Or just like not

1:09:29

on stage, you know, but, um, yeah. Gwen

1:09:31

Stefani is perfect. Yeah. And

1:09:33

that was like the height

1:09:35

of no doubt. And I

1:09:37

don't know, no doubt was

1:09:39

like, I grew up playing at

1:09:42

this punk, punk club called

1:09:44

Spanky's cafe. Whereas like,

1:09:46

Punk bands that I was in

1:09:48

she was like playing with no doubt.

1:09:50

It was like battle of the

1:09:52

bands So was like she was she

1:09:54

was Southern California like growing up.

1:09:56

I watched them, you know from like

1:09:58

Scott punk scene She was the

1:10:00

illest, you know watching her and Bradley

1:10:03

Noel. Oh, yeah sublime. Yeah, did

1:10:05

you know Bradley? Mmm same thing

1:10:07

I played with them at Copaceta cafe. Yeah,

1:10:09

where I grew up played a show once

1:10:11

and it was really cool and then We

1:10:13

were just talking about the way over

1:10:15

here. I saw the first warp tour.

1:10:17

It was like sublime orange nine millimeter

1:10:19

deaf tones No use for a name deaf

1:10:22

tones and that was the first time

1:10:24

I had seen sublime Where they actually like

1:10:26

it was more of a jam session

1:10:28

than one before but sublime is one

1:10:30

of the best, you know Bradley was

1:10:32

so So talented my daughter out. I just

1:10:34

texted the other day She's like I

1:10:36

need deaf tone tickets and I was

1:10:38

like I'll pay for those. Yeah, fuck.

1:10:40

Yeah, I love I love Chino and Abe

1:10:42

and the guys. They're so

1:10:45

great. And I love that everyone's figuring

1:10:47

it out. Like, you know,

1:10:49

people your daughter's age are coming back around and

1:10:51

being like, I discovered the deaf tones. know,

1:10:53

I put on, you ever put

1:10:55

on it like when, when, when you're

1:10:57

Alabama and Rocky or you're too

1:10:59

young to, to, from your first marriage?

1:11:02

Um, Rocky's from, uh, my

1:11:04

marriage right now. Marriage right now.

1:11:06

Rocky's Rockies too. Rockies

1:11:09

14 months 14 months. Yeah, okay after

1:11:11

you said 14 and I was like, no

1:11:13

Alabama's 19 landings 21 like my son.

1:11:15

Yeah, do you remember do you remember remember?

1:11:17

And maybe they were numb to it

1:11:19

because I put in comedy for my kids

1:11:21

and like they kind of deconstruct it

1:11:23

not a fun way and they're like I

1:11:25

put me Ted Bergen and they were

1:11:28

like, is he high? I was like, well,

1:11:30

yeah, yeah, and they're like, okay, so

1:11:32

we're laughing because he's high and they go

1:11:34

wait is he still alive? I go

1:11:36

no Like how did he die? I said,

1:11:38

there's a drug overdose. And they're

1:11:40

like, so this is kind of sad. And I'm like, fuck never

1:11:42

mind playing, not listening to comedy with you guys. I'm

1:11:45

not gonna play prior for you, I

1:11:47

guess. But I played, I put in a

1:11:49

banger song for Isla, who's really into

1:11:51

like punk music. I was

1:11:53

like, you ever heard Pennywise? She

1:11:55

was like, no, and I put in

1:11:57

Brohem. And it's a guy -centric song.

1:11:59

Yeah, very. But da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da

1:12:01

-da -da -da -da -da -da. And she was like,

1:12:03

oh. And then I hit pause and

1:12:05

I explained the song. And then

1:12:07

she was like, okay, it started over. That

1:12:09

has a lot of meaning. It has a lot of

1:12:12

meaning. The fucking look

1:12:14

on her face, when she

1:12:16

came home, she's like, have

1:12:18

you ever heard of Blame 182? And I

1:12:20

was like, oh, baby, fuck yeah. And I

1:12:22

was like, oh, and then I wanted to

1:12:24

be like, Because when we grew up, you

1:12:26

were fans of a band, and all you

1:12:28

had to do was have dreams. You'd read

1:12:30

the liner notes and be like, ooh, what

1:12:33

is this guy like? Even fucking Jonathan Davis

1:12:35

from Korn, even then, the internet wasn't big.

1:12:37

You're like, why does he have HIV on

1:12:39

his arm? And then

1:12:41

I was like, oh, baby, you

1:12:43

can listen to podcasts these guys have

1:12:45

done. They are fucking fascinating. Yeah.

1:12:47

And she was like, I'm obsessed

1:12:49

with Blink 182. That's so cool.

1:12:51

It's a cool. It's cool to share

1:12:53

that shit with your kids. Yeah,

1:12:55

for sure. Yeah. It's

1:12:58

crazy. So how do you

1:13:00

make tuna fish salad? I make

1:13:02

it out of chickpeas. Really?

1:13:05

Yeah. Wait, wait, hold on. I was

1:13:07

just joking. Chickpea

1:13:09

replaces anything tuna -based when

1:13:11

you're plant -based. Hold on.

1:13:13

Hold on one second. So

1:13:16

tell me, this is, I was

1:13:18

just joking. Yeah. Cause I asked Matthew McConaughey

1:13:20

how he made his, she was the

1:13:22

dumbest question I've ever had and apparently went

1:13:24

viral. But wait, how do you make

1:13:26

your tuna fish salad? I

1:13:28

mean, that's the closest thing to a tuna

1:13:30

fish salad for me. So you take

1:13:32

chickpeas and then put mayonnaise in there. Veganize.

1:13:36

Veganize. Yeah. And then do you put like

1:13:38

any pickles or anything? Yeah,

1:13:41

I mean, sometimes. Toast

1:13:43

the toast the bread. That's what I was wondering

1:13:45

what what you're gonna cook for me, too If I

1:13:47

go on the on the cooking show. Oh,

1:13:49

buddy. Oh, hold on Hold

1:13:51

on so I went vegan. I

1:13:53

got I get it. Oh,

1:13:56

oh God Let me slow down

1:13:58

so excited. I'm never told

1:14:00

anyone this story. I I'm

1:14:02

sure I have I'm I don't know. I've

1:14:04

said been told I'm in Miami, Florida,

1:14:06

and I'm done with it and we're coming

1:14:08

off tour and I'm like I'm fucking

1:14:10

done I'm done with me. I'm done with

1:14:12

my lifestyle. I can't change everything, but I

1:14:14

know I can change one thing and that's how I eat. I

1:14:17

said, I'm going vegan. And everyone's

1:14:19

like, bullshit. And I said, I'm going vegan. And

1:14:22

it lasted four hours, but only because, oh,

1:14:24

hold on. No, it wasn't my fault. It

1:14:26

wasn't my fault. I didn't know pasta is

1:14:28

not vegan. So I

1:14:30

had pasta, no sauce, no nothing. Like

1:14:32

just had pasta. The guy next to

1:14:34

me is like, well, you got a dietary problem. And

1:14:36

I was like, no, I'm vegan. And he goes, I hate

1:14:38

to break your heart, but pasta's not

1:14:40

vegan. And I was like, okay, so I

1:14:42

still counted it. I was trying. So

1:14:45

I came home and I'll tell you that here's

1:14:47

my, I made a vegan meatloaf and it

1:14:49

was bananas. It was so good. And my

1:14:51

daughter, I didn't tell my daughters or my wife,

1:14:53

it was vegan meatloaf. I just made it.

1:14:55

And they're like, this is good. What is

1:14:57

it? And I was like, just keep eating. And

1:15:00

then they were like, this is really good. And I was like,

1:15:02

it's vegan. Meatloaf and they're like and

1:15:04

I was like no you liked it before I

1:15:06

told you it was vegan Yeah, you just can't

1:15:08

tell them. Yeah, and then you can use you

1:15:10

can use What is the what is the I

1:15:12

use? Not

1:15:14

yeast yeast is so great.

1:15:16

That's the way instead of

1:15:19

instead of impossible or Beyond

1:15:21

meat like any seitan like

1:15:23

wheat based protein. Yeah is

1:15:25

good. Yeah, it's not soy

1:15:28

It's the best. I've been carnivore for almost a year

1:15:30

and a half. Yeah, but I would go vegan.

1:15:32

I would love to have you on my cooking show

1:15:34

and make a vegan meal for you. Yeah, let's

1:15:36

do it. Who would you want as your co -guest? I

1:15:39

get to pick one? Yeah, anyone you

1:15:41

want. Let me think about that. Bring

1:15:43

the sister with the plane. I will,

1:15:45

I'll try. I'll try.

1:15:47

Maybe she could find me out there. That's

1:15:52

cool. Yeah, I'd love to have you on my

1:15:54

cooking show. Yeah, I would love to. make you pick

1:15:56

whoever you want. It doesn't have to be a

1:15:58

famous person. Just someone you like to hang with and

1:16:00

vibe with. I'll probably drink, but you're cool with

1:16:02

me drinking, right? Of course. Yeah, okay, yeah, cool. Of

1:16:04

course. Yeah, awesome. I can be around anything. Yeah,

1:16:06

buddy, you sound like as

1:16:08

a guy, when did

1:16:10

I, I must have found

1:16:12

you in 2000, I'm guessing, right?

1:16:15

Is that when, 1997

1:16:18

maybe? Yeah,

1:16:20

Blink probably started around 1997. I

1:16:22

joined around 1999. 1999,

1:16:24

I discovered you. I've watched

1:16:27

your journey, I've watched your reality show,

1:16:29

I've watched your own cribs. I mean,

1:16:31

all of it, all of it. I mean,

1:16:33

all of it. You've been a public figure,

1:16:36

whether you've wanted to or not, things have happened to

1:16:38

you where you just got thrust into the public. And

1:16:40

man, you're the coolest dude I've ever

1:16:42

fucking met. Like I, you

1:16:44

know, there's a couple guys I've met in

1:16:47

life where I go, I want that,

1:16:49

I want a little bit of that. Like

1:16:51

McConaughey, got to charm the pants off

1:16:53

fucking Putin. He's so good. He's so good.

1:16:55

He's so good. But just

1:16:57

looking at your eyes and like

1:16:59

how you, how you're just so

1:17:01

present and grounded and just relaxed.

1:17:03

I was like, okay, maybe there's

1:17:05

something to be in vegan or

1:17:08

getting drugs out of my life. I

1:17:10

mean, you guys, There's

1:17:12

like you, like

1:17:15

Shane Gellis, like Joe Rogan. You

1:17:17

guys are also rock stars. Like,

1:17:20

I hear all about it. You

1:17:22

know, I hear like Cheeto Vera

1:17:24

from the UFC to the fighter.

1:17:26

He's like, he tells me, he

1:17:28

goes to everyone's shows and he's

1:17:30

like, they're rock stars homie. Straight

1:17:32

up, you know? And I hear

1:17:34

a running theme through everything you're

1:17:36

saying. Like, it's like comedy

1:17:38

is... new version of of a

1:17:40

rock star those guys are partying like

1:17:42

rock stars They're just as wild

1:17:44

as rock stars. So and it's exciting.

1:17:46

It's exciting I'll tell you this

1:17:49

my daughters my daughters have both seen

1:17:51

Shane Gillis live and They didn't

1:17:53

have the same look after seeing blink

1:17:55

182. Oh, I bet dude my

1:17:57

first the first time I watched them

1:17:59

I was like I just couldn't

1:18:01

believe it I watched his stand up

1:18:03

and it was it was so

1:18:05

good, you know, yeah, but um and

1:18:08

then I just heard Like

1:18:11

so much about him, you know, but it

1:18:13

is it's like it's Being a comedian couldn't

1:18:15

be cooler than it is right now. It's

1:18:17

pretty cool. It's pretty fucking cool It's pretty

1:18:19

cool. It's pretty cool. I love it. I

1:18:21

love it But you know much like you

1:18:23

getting into drums just because that was your

1:18:26

thing and you were better at that than

1:18:28

skating It's like I got into comedy, you

1:18:30

know in like 97 90 probably 99 98

1:18:32

and I just got into it because I

1:18:34

did it's like I was like, I don't

1:18:36

I like it I didn't there was no

1:18:38

career in it. Yeah, you're just funny as

1:18:40

fuck. It's not what it was. It wasn't

1:18:43

what it is today isn't what it was

1:18:45

then. Yeah, I just dug it and I

1:18:47

thought it was like Counterculture and it was

1:18:49

like a way to like I like telling

1:18:51

stories and it was a fun way to

1:18:53

tell stories It's cool to watch your kids

1:18:55

like watching my oldest daughter Georgia saw shame

1:18:57

for the first time and this is gotta

1:19:00

be like Three years ago four years ago

1:19:02

before he was famous and he had this

1:19:04

great joke. It's now in one of his

1:19:06

specials about Going to

1:19:08

a old plantation a reenactment plantation and

1:19:10

the black guy coming up and it's it's

1:19:12

in his bit I'm not gonna do

1:19:14

this bit, but it's pretty aggressive and it's

1:19:17

pretty fucking hilarious my daughter Georgia is

1:19:19

Alabama's age and She she heard it and

1:19:21

was like a little woke and she

1:19:23

went whoa I said what she goes you're

1:19:25

not allowed to say that I was

1:19:27

like why not why not she was getting

1:19:29

trouble I go did you think it

1:19:31

was funny? She's like yeah, but I can't

1:19:33

laugh at that. Can I and I

1:19:36

was like yeah like, you

1:19:38

can laugh at that? And I was like, yeah, baby, that's

1:19:40

the whole point of comedy is like, you got to

1:19:42

push the boundaries and you got to the things you're not

1:19:44

supposed to say or the things to say. And that's

1:19:46

what's great about Shane. She was like. Okay,

1:19:48

the next night, her and her friend

1:19:51

Daisy are crying, laughing. Next thing

1:19:53

you know, all the girls were back at

1:19:55

our house, and Shane's beautiful dogs comes out,

1:19:57

fucking 15 girls in our screening room, and

1:19:59

they're watching beautiful fucking dogs, 15 girls. That's

1:20:01

great. Watching beautiful dogs, and they're like, he's

1:20:03

the goat. And I was like, eh, I

1:20:05

got specials on there too, girls. Yeah. No,

1:20:08

it is, but for like, youth to be

1:20:10

in it, I feel like comedians was like a

1:20:12

thing our parents were into, right? Yeah. Like,

1:20:14

my dad would watch Eddie Murphy or whatever, but

1:20:17

like, It's different

1:20:19

now. It's different. It appeals to

1:20:21

a whole different crowd and I feel like,

1:20:23

yeah, like I've heard like Chappelle say

1:20:25

it. I've heard like all the greats say

1:20:27

it. It should be almost like a

1:20:29

fantasy world where you say whatever the fuck

1:20:31

you want. Yeah. And you express yourself

1:20:33

and you talk your shit. You know what

1:20:35

I mean? And no one takes it

1:20:37

too serious. Like just enjoy whatever. I

1:20:40

was roasting the bones brigade last night. Steve

1:20:42

Cavallero was like, God, he looks like one of

1:20:45

those cholos that took up painting. And

1:20:47

I'm going like, I hope these work the

1:20:49

best of the best. And this is for

1:20:51

only like me, and you will get this.

1:20:53

And the Bones Brigade. And I was like,

1:20:55

you guys were cool, but let's be real.

1:20:57

Your early skate videos kind of looked like

1:20:59

Al -Qaeda training videos. And

1:21:01

then for like I'm like, search for Animal Channel all

1:21:03

that stuff. And I go, you're doing these moves, where you

1:21:05

go, hoo! Dude,

1:21:09

that's so funny. But yeah comedy is

1:21:11

fun as fuck, but it's not but dude

1:21:13

You should be able to watch it

1:21:15

and kind of escape from reality Yeah, and

1:21:17

just you know disappear. That's the best

1:21:19

compliment you ever get is yo man I've

1:21:21

been going through some stuff. It's been

1:21:23

really rough And I haven't laughed in a

1:21:25

while but I went to your show

1:21:27

and I totally forgot about my problems And

1:21:29

just thanks and that's like the thing

1:21:31

and I mean I would I that's a

1:21:33

gift but what I'm telling you when

1:21:35

I listen to your music It's

1:21:37

beautiful to throw on a Blink 182 song

1:21:39

and fucking run like you guys did

1:21:41

in your underwear. Like it's to run and

1:21:43

just like fucking and get lost and

1:21:45

put it on and throw the windows down

1:21:47

and put the heat on in your

1:21:49

car at night and speed. That's

1:21:51

the best. the way, windows down

1:21:53

heater on or in a convertible, the

1:21:56

best. But yeah, that's I mean, that's

1:21:58

the goal is like, music's got to

1:22:00

be your escape to, you know, comedy,

1:22:02

whatever it is, like just offer people

1:22:04

like an escape from reality. And I'll

1:22:06

tell you right now, I think what

1:22:08

you're doing with these 5Ks is the

1:22:10

coolest damn thing. And I'm not saying

1:22:12

that because we were also doing it.

1:22:14

I'm saying that because I just think

1:22:16

the more people should do these because

1:22:18

it's a great way to build community.

1:22:20

It's a great way to get your

1:22:22

fans involved and get them healthy. And

1:22:24

that's the most important thing. I mean,

1:22:26

as someone who's been through so many

1:22:29

health traumas as yourself, like

1:22:31

the idea that you... How beautiful is it

1:22:33

that your fucking legs work and you can

1:22:35

get yourself out there and you get to

1:22:37

have sun hit your face and it's awesome.

1:22:39

Yeah. And not, you know, like there's like

1:22:41

fans of yours that probably have never thought

1:22:43

about running, but they're like, Oh, Bert's doing

1:22:45

this. I'm going to, I am going to

1:22:47

try it. And then it just, it leads

1:22:49

to a, a life of like health and

1:22:51

wellness. You know what I mean? It's cool.

1:22:53

Even if you want to. Drink

1:22:56

and eat whatever the fuck you want, but you go out

1:22:58

and you do these 5k's every once in a while.

1:23:00

It's like it's the balance. gonna have

1:23:02

a huge flag February February when's February 7th?

1:23:04

1:23:34

1:23:38

a journey for you to get healthier,

1:23:40

and if your husband is overweight, and you're

1:23:42

1:23:48

1:24:08

1:24:13

a Kardashian. I'd

1:24:15

be nervous. I want you to watch me

1:24:17

meet your wife. I'll save you an

1:24:19

appropriate thing. It's like, I'm

1:24:21

1:24:23

we be like, huh? I really

1:24:25

like Chloe. No, she's the best. Yeah,

1:24:49

1:24:51

1:25:43

like, it sucks. Once you get there too,

1:25:45
