Hi, this is Adrian here for Market
0:02
Attack and just before this episode about
0:04
Worms, I just wanted to say a
0:06
quick condolences, a quick tribute to Martin
0:08
Brown, the team's 17 co-founder who sadly
0:10
passed away just before New Year's. He
0:12
was an amazing man, he creates some
0:14
of my favourite games for all time
0:16
and I had the honour of interviewing
0:18
a bit. a few years ago. So
0:20
I was very upset when I heard
0:22
he passed away. So I want to,
0:24
this is my tribute in honour of
0:26
Martin Brown, this episode, and actually the
0:28
episode in two weeks time, I actually
0:30
interviewed another Team 17 legend. So
0:32
these two podcasts were recorded before
0:35
Martin Brown sadly passed away, that
0:37
this is a small little, you
0:40
know, small little gesture to say
0:42
how much we respect Martin Brown
0:44
and the Amazing work he did at
0:46
Team 17. A
0:51
retro gaming podcast
0:53
for up to
0:56
four players. Anik.
0:58
Boom! Phoenix, bad
1:01
cheap! Welcome listeners,
1:03
it's Adrian here
1:05
from Market Attack
1:07
and we're back with another podcast. You're
1:10
listening to a phone call, so it's
1:12
something about a phone call. It's not
1:14
like a news channel or anything. Anyway,
1:16
let's get straight into it, so we've
1:19
got Dylan in the house. Hello. Hello,
1:21
Dylan, and we've got Keith. Hello. And
1:23
of course, Jay. Shalom! Today, I think
1:26
it's, I've been sitting on a story
1:28
I've wanted to share with you guys
1:30
for many, many years, and I couldn't
1:32
really crowbar it in without talking about
1:35
the game in particular, so I think
1:37
I'll share. A very true, it's a
1:39
true story by the way, you're
1:41
not going to believe this story.
1:43
One of my craziest memories of
1:45
gaming is, well, let's talk about war,
1:47
work, experience. All four of us went
1:50
to the same high school and all
1:52
four of us, I think, would have
1:54
gone to work experience in the same
1:57
sort of two-week spell. I think it
1:59
was early... year 11 slash year 5.
2:01
I think it was the first two
2:03
weeks. It was in 1997. Yeah, because
2:06
we finished, we graduated in 1998, so
2:08
we started that last year, 97, believe
2:10
it or not. But anyway, I went,
2:12
so actually in the back, just think
2:15
of your lovely work experience stories, I
2:17
think we could share those in a
2:19
minute. Okay. After mine. Yeah, yeah. But
2:21
I don't think your story would be
2:24
better than mine. I think I might
2:26
win. Because I. On the paper at
2:28
least, it was the most boring work
2:31
it's from its placements ever.
2:33
I worked at a company
2:36
called Ads Anchor Data Systems.
2:38
Whoa. That was the name
2:40
of it. I still remember, it
2:42
had like an Anchor Logo and
2:45
I was like, what is this
2:47
place? Sounds good. Any idea what
2:49
they might do at Ads Anchor
2:52
Data Systems? Ads. ADS anchored data
2:54
system. It doesn't exist anymore. I
2:56
Google it. Is it some kind
2:58
of boring like data entry kind
3:00
of? It's not, okay, basically they've
3:02
repaired cash registers. Oh, okay. Cash
3:04
registers. They put maintenance and if
3:06
you had a broken cash register,
3:08
you would send it to this
3:10
company and they'll fix it for
3:13
you. They might sell the new
3:15
ones as well, but I think
3:17
they're mainly a repair company. So I
3:19
was like. What the? What is this place? What
3:21
did you put down on your... How did
3:23
they pay you up with this? What did
3:25
you choose? Something to do with money that's
3:27
what you put. Now I believe we were
3:29
there for two weeks. Correct me I'm wrong.
3:31
I think it was two weeks. Was that
3:33
the longest two weeks of your entire life
3:35
thus far? No. And the two weeks of
3:37
me are very split. The first week they
3:39
said, oh we've got loads for you to
3:41
do Adrian them. You're going to be working
3:43
the warehouse for the warehouse of the first
3:45
week. The first week. around like moved boxes
3:47
you got to put that on these different
3:49
shelves and I was doing it quite slowly really
3:52
but that was my first week I was like
3:54
oh for goodness sake and by the end of
3:56
the first week I realized that I basically finished
3:58
all the work and they were like And they
4:00
had me for another week. So they
4:02
didn't know what to do with me
4:04
really. So they said, oh, there's a
4:06
computer over there, kind of in the
4:09
corner. Just, why did it just go
4:11
on the computer for a bit to
4:13
the end of your shift? And I
4:15
was like, yeah, fine. I just had
4:17
nothing on the computer really. And I
4:19
was like, yeah, fine. I just had
4:21
nothing on the computer really. Had like
4:23
the paint program I think and stuff.
4:26
I wonder if I can sneak in
4:28
a video game. and put it on
4:30
this little still computer, it's kind of
4:32
hidden away, no one's kind of bothered
4:34
with me. You wouldn't be you if
4:36
you didn't try to put a video
4:38
game. I was thinking, it's like an
4:40
old PC, it's like a disk drive,
4:43
it's like floppy disks. So I was
4:45
like, I don't have many floppy disk
4:47
PC games, but I do have one.
4:49
So I do have one, I'm going
4:51
to try. So I went home, I
4:53
think on that maybe Monday night, I
4:55
think, what should I try and sneak
4:57
in? And I thought, OK, worms. I'm
5:00
bringing worms in, baby. I had worms
5:02
on the PC. I can't remember if
5:04
it was on one or two. I
5:06
can't remember if it was on one
5:08
or two. I can't remember. I can't
5:10
remember. I was on one or two.
5:12
I can't remember. I can't remember. I
5:14
can't remember. I was on one or
5:16
two. I was on one or two.
5:19
I was on one or two. For
5:21
the next few days, I was just
5:23
playing worms. At work experience. All day,
5:25
every day. And obviously I didn't want
5:27
to get in trouble. So if someone
5:29
came, I said, oh no, I just,
5:31
you know, just check out the spreadsheet
5:33
kind of stuff, you know. switched off
5:36
the worms, but I think someone caught
5:38
me. It's like, what are you doing?
5:40
Oh, I'm playing worms. And all of
5:42
a sudden this guy, I don't remember
5:44
his name, he started playing worms with
5:46
me. I won't tell if you don't,
5:48
yeah. And we were quite discreet, because
5:50
worms is much better multi-play, a multiplayer
5:53
game. And we were actually playing it
5:55
together. And I think by the end
5:57
of the week, we had little tournaments
5:59
going on. We had to a bit,
6:01
the boss just hired you. worked very
6:03
hard, you've good morale for the staff
6:05
and he gave me something, he gave
6:07
me an envelope. 40 pounds! He said
6:10
well done, he's done a great job,
6:12
we're going to miss you, he's 40
6:14
pounds and he didn't even... find out
6:16
about the worms. So let's hold on
6:18
hold on hold on let's just get
6:20
this straight so so you did a
6:22
week's work instead of two yes you
6:24
basically roped other people into playing worms
6:26
who then basically were on your little
6:29
tournament roster it was so fun The
6:31
boss didn't know anything about it. No,
6:33
I don't. And he paid you for
6:35
it as well. He might have known.
6:37
He probably did know, but he's like,
6:39
he just keeps aging out of trouble.
6:41
We don't even want, who wants a
6:43
pesky little kid knocking about anyway? He's
6:46
at the corner playing these worms. Why
6:48
do these things never happen to me?
6:50
But I think there's a little twist
6:52
in the tail, because I think that
6:54
sort of lines up the times. No.
6:56
Oh no, I definitely bought a game
6:58
though. I had 40 pounds, I did
7:00
trick myself to a neat game. It
7:03
was 97, yeah. It might be a
7:05
PlayStation game. Yeah, probably was. I think
7:07
it was a PlayStation game, but I
7:09
think we met as well. Yeah, because
7:11
we all, a few of us used
7:13
to be, like, couldn't. Yeah, that's right.
7:15
And it's like we finished work experience.
7:17
Yeah. But then, but you know about
7:20
what I did for my work experience.
7:22
Well, no, why did you? sorry because
7:24
I was a TSP in Croydon when
7:26
you were when we were doing that
7:28
and same thing happened to me they
7:30
didn't have any work for me to
7:32
do pretty large so my highlights were
7:34
just playing pool all the time because
7:36
they had a pool table in their
7:39
little breakout room and I'd usually just
7:41
whoever wasn't doing work at the time
7:43
would just come and play pool with
7:45
me yeah and then that that would
7:47
be that and then one time this
7:49
is really random I turned up one
7:51
day in the morning in the morning
7:53
and then I like, I like walk
7:56
through the front door and then I
7:58
trip over. I'm like, what if I
8:00
tripped over? I turn around and only
8:02
the frame of the door is there.
8:04
Someone had smashed and someone had broken
8:06
into the bank. The night before I've
8:08
just walked straight in and just like
8:10
almost stacked it. Yeah, so that was
8:13
it. Well, that's that's work experience. You
8:15
improved your pool skills. I've got better
8:17
at worms. Yeah. We worked really hard.
8:19
Yeah. And they got me drunk both
8:21
Fridays as well, which are pretty sweet.
8:23
We were like 14. What? 15. Oh,
8:25
that makes it all right. Yeah, that's
8:27
so much better, isn't it? Yeah, that's
8:30
all in the extra years. I was
8:32
like 15. Hammered on two pints, both
8:34
Fridays, both Fridays, both Fridays, and my
8:36
parents did not care. Yeah. That's a
8:38
good story. No worms involved, was involved,
8:40
sadly. Do you have any worms involved
8:42
in your workings involved in your workings,
8:44
from your workings, from your workings, from
8:46
your work, from your work, from your
8:49
story? story? No, I just go to
8:51
school didn't you? Yeah, it's actually, it's
8:53
quite nice. I've just got a wholesome
8:55
story. It was nice. So I did
8:57
work experience, I think they were year
8:59
four primary school. Again, there wasn't that
9:01
much for me to actually do, but
9:03
I remember they, I playing football at
9:06
lunch time with all the little kids.
9:08
Did teacher let me take the peer
9:10
lessons as well. Wow. and also just
9:12
like reading with the kids as well
9:14
and it was like obviously I was
9:16
like a selfish 14 15 year old
9:18
I never really did anything that wasn't
9:20
for my best interests but it was
9:23
really rewarding and it's a really nice
9:25
thing right at the end towards the
9:27
end of the week you guys know
9:29
me especially back then I was basically
9:31
wearing a Liverpool shirt every day and
9:33
I noticed the last couple of that
9:35
year when I get a child I
9:37
noticed towards the end of the week
9:40
the kids would randomly come up to
9:42
me and kind of just stare at
9:44
my chest and I was like what's
9:46
going on And then on the last
9:48
day before I left, they presented me
9:50
with this card and they'd attempted to
9:52
draw the Liverpool bags. And so they
9:54
were trying to look at all the
9:56
details and so instead of the live
9:59
bird, it had what looked like a
10:01
brontosaurous. But yeah, it was like a
10:03
brontosaurist. But yeah, it was like a
10:05
brontosaurist. But yeah, it was like a
10:07
brontosaurist. But yeah. But yeah. But it
10:09
was like a brontosaur. And it was
10:11
like a brontosseaur. And they made me.
10:13
And they made me. And they made
10:16
me. And they made me. And they
10:18
made me. And they made me. And
10:20
they made me. And they made me.
10:22
And they made me. And they made
10:24
me. And they made me. And they
10:26
made me. And they made me. And
10:28
they made me. And they made me.
10:30
And they made me. And they made
10:33
me. And they made me. And they
10:35
made me. And they made me. I
10:37
So that's a nice wholesome story, there's
10:39
no worms though. No worms though, so
10:41
sorry. Hopefully there are some worms in
10:43
James. Please, James. Now. You're not going
10:45
to believe this. You're not going to
10:47
believe this. You're not going to believe
10:50
this. You're not going to believe this.
10:52
I actually had two weeks work experience
10:54
in a vet. Who look after? Hold
10:56
on. Worms. Hold on. Here we go.
10:58
Here we go. So, so, unlike you
11:00
lazy so-and-so's, yeah, who did absolutely no
11:02
work whatsoever, I ended up getting involved
11:04
in like, I was involved in everything.
11:06
I was like, doing, like standing with
11:09
the vet while they were like diagnosing
11:11
cats and dogs and dogs and I
11:13
like, I remember this like really clearly,
11:15
I stood in in theatre while they
11:17
were delivering like 21 bulldog puppies and
11:19
there was like a dopaman that had
11:21
a skin graft and there was, oh
11:23
God. like it was it was it
11:26
was to get involved in all that
11:28
I was like like in hindsight now
11:30
I was like that's a that was
11:32
amazing that's been super interesting yeah there's
11:34
all these different animals and everything there
11:36
was one in particular that that I
11:38
remember yeah and it was a no
11:40
no no no no no no it
11:43
was a massive iguana oh nice it's
11:45
right this great big iguana like it
11:47
was huge now you know the one
11:49
and I'm gonna I'm gonna do a
11:51
reference here I'm gonna do a reference
11:53
here I'm gonna do a reference to
11:55
Oh God! Pugs! Pugsley! Pugsley! That's the
11:57
one? Yes, it is, isn't it? Is
12:00
it, is it to make you into
12:02
a purse? You know, job job, that's
12:04
patty in Selma's, you know, yeah, pugsley.
12:06
So, like that, but bigger, right? So
12:08
you, so you now understand. Now, he
12:10
obviously had a certain diet, okay, yeah?
12:12
and part of that diet was worse.
12:14
And I'm not, I'm not, I'm not
12:16
joking, I'm not, I'm actually not joking
12:19
on this, I did actually do two
12:21
weeks working fears in a vest in
12:23
Red Hill, yeah, and they're still there,
12:25
they're still. there and I think was
12:27
gating veterinary surgery or whatever it is
12:29
they're still there I've passed me over
12:31
day and yeah so I did all
12:33
of that like there was like you
12:36
you actually worked at work experience yeah
12:38
I did listen to your stories about
12:40
playing pool and worms and you know
12:42
whatever reading books and getting cards and
12:44
playing football and Jesus but yeah but
12:46
the weirdest like the wackiest animal that
12:48
was there was this giant iguana was
12:50
actually quite friendly to be fair and
12:53
sort of like giving you hugs and
12:55
things, which was weird, because I never
12:57
had a hug for me go on
12:59
it before. But yeah, he ate worms.
13:01
Not exclusively, but that was part of
13:03
it. So I just thought, you know,
13:05
that would kind of tie in with
13:07
what you've just said there. Now you've
13:10
said it. Let's talk about worms. It's
13:12
all about worms. What type of worms?
13:14
I love worms. I think they're great.
13:16
They're wiggle it. They're actually game worms.
13:18
Great for fishing. I generally loved, and
13:20
I still love it today. It's one
13:22
of those games that came quite late
13:24
on the Amiga's life, and it was
13:26
just, just tail off the Amiga a
13:29
little bit, going on to my sort
13:31
of, you know, consoles, a bit more
13:33
in PC. But it was one of
13:35
the big last hurrah for me on
13:37
the Amiga. We'll talk about your experience
13:39
with the game soon, but basically it's
13:41
an artillery tactical game made by British
13:43
Company. Team 17, who I have a
13:46
lot of respect for. And there's a
13:48
space between Team 17, so it's just
13:50
Team 17. We have to say it's
13:52
fast, yeah. But in these games, small
13:54
platoons of amphomorphic. Amphomorphic. That's the word.
13:56
So human-like worms battle each other across
13:58
a destructive, with the objective being to
14:00
become the sole surviving team. the games
14:03
are noted for their cartoony animation and
14:05
extensive use of surrealism and slapstick humour.
14:07
Does anyone know the story of how
14:09
this game was devised and came up
14:11
with? Because that is an really interesting
14:13
story. Nope, nope, nope, please tell. A
14:15
gentleman named Andy Davidson basically made this
14:17
game in his bedroom and it kind
14:20
of obviously went in from there but
14:22
almost a solo project and he wasn't
14:24
much older than us at the time.
14:26
You know, he made this game a
14:28
few years before. before, you know, I
14:30
was talking about your 997, but honestly,
14:32
it's absolutely incredible story about how you
14:34
got this game to pass. But some
14:36
people call the game a cross between
14:39
cannon fodder and lemons. I think that's
14:41
not a bad way of looking at
14:43
it. Yeah, yeah. And it's a turn-based
14:45
artillery game, usual weapons, similar games to
14:47
it, have included a game called Scotch
14:49
Earth, which was released in 1991, and
14:51
artillery jewel, 1983 jewel, 1983. I believe
14:53
I have played artillery dual, I think
14:56
it was a PC game, where you
14:58
can control two little tanks. Yes! Yes,
15:00
I've seen that. Yes, I've seen that.
15:02
Because you have to go to the
15:04
trajectory and the wind affected it as
15:06
well. And I quite, me and my
15:08
friend Adam used to play it quite
15:10
a lot on his PC, really liked
15:13
it. But I can see and I
15:15
think these games obviously inspired Andy. Before
15:17
I talk about a bit more of
15:19
the game, what was your experience of
15:21
worms and I'm pointing at Keith. very
15:23
very limited. I have played it at
15:25
various points over the years. I've got
15:27
a feeling our friend Rob had it
15:30
on his PC. I'm sure I played
15:32
it at Rob's and yeah just over
15:34
the years I've had the occasional little
15:36
dabble but I've never spent a lot
15:38
of time with it. But you know
15:40
I'm fairly familiar with like the mechanics
15:42
and outworks and other rest of it
15:44
and like the human stuff but yeah
15:46
I just haven't spent a lot of
15:49
time with it. As also a co
15:51
Amiga owner owner slash lover. Did you
15:53
lend it to me? I might have
15:55
explained. I can't quite remember. I think
15:57
I must have done it. Yeah. And
15:59
I did not. I didn't copy it
16:01
or nothing. I didn't copy it as
16:03
a thing he says. Yeah. No. And
16:06
then gave a band to Adrian and
16:08
it was fun. Yeah. You should write
16:10
the back of the box text. And
16:12
it was fine? I borrowed it and
16:14
gave it back. James, what's your experience?
16:16
Love it! Well, most of my, well,
16:18
at least half the experience was around
16:20
your house playing the game. But I
16:23
just fell in love with the fact
16:25
that it was so like irreverent and
16:27
crazy. And to use the word slapstick
16:29
is perfect. That's exactly what it is.
16:31
They do all these like silly dances
16:33
and like... they blur out weird phrases
16:35
and it's just so like silly but
16:37
at the same time fun like it's
16:40
so cool yeah and I had it
16:42
on I think I got it after
16:44
I played it an absolute ton around
16:46
yours or I got it on the
16:48
PC I think it did it was
16:50
yeah I think the thing that impressed
16:52
me the most was and you're probably
16:54
going to come onto this but was
16:57
like the the the the landscapes because
16:59
there was like almost like an unlimited
17:01
amount of landscapes that you could generate
17:03
just by typing in different codes or
17:05
something. I'm sure you're going to come
17:07
into it. I think you're right. But
17:09
that was like really impressive because then
17:11
every game was different. So it was
17:13
amazing. Every landscape was different. So I
17:16
just remember so many good things about
17:18
so colorful and like crazy and the
17:20
characters were just so silly and but.
17:22
I'll still love it now. It's a
17:24
good fun party game and I've just
17:26
recently got back into my boys and
17:28
we're loving it. But I thought as
17:30
a treat for our listeners because I
17:33
think it's been a while and I
17:35
think we kind of let us side
17:37
down a bit on your light gun
17:39
pod at the back of the box.
17:41
That menace the back of the box
17:43
didn't really scratch my itch. No, sorry
17:45
I couldn't read most of it. But
17:47
I've got here. three back of the
17:50
boxes and they're quite different from each
17:52
other. Oh, right, right. Maybe do you
17:54
want to start with the official Mega
17:56
Drive worms back of the box? Yeah,
17:58
I certainly can. Mega Drive. Explore the
18:00
sinister side of nature as you control
18:02
a troop of armed up, never say
18:04
die worms in an arcade strategy extravaganza.
18:07
You shotguns, bazookers, home in missiles and
18:09
your bid for survival and the ultimate
18:11
accol. Victory! There you go, that's quite
18:13
nice. And I've got a similar one
18:15
here for the DOS back of the
18:17
box, voted Game of the Year in
18:19
1995. Worms established itself as a PlayStation
18:21
smash hit, despite the fact that it
18:23
has no pretenses about pushing the power
18:26
of PlayStation to its limit. Instead, gameplay
18:28
rules supreme in this turn-based strategy game
18:30
that is packed with humor. Players control
18:32
up to eight teams of worms over
18:34
hostile... terrain where the only objective is
18:36
to survive and the surest form of
18:38
defence is attack. Weapons on offer include
18:40
home missiles, scatter bombs, bazookers, shotguns, dynamite
18:43
and even street fighter two moves. Opponents
18:45
have to be out full as well
18:47
as out fought and the sneaky of
18:49
the thinking the better. Worms really comes
18:51
to life against human opposition. Looking for
18:53
something different get worms. As the publicity
18:55
says the worms have turned and how.
18:57
I quite like that. I've got it
19:00
here. Can you see? I didn't make
19:02
it all in bold and italic. I've
19:04
got the PlayStation, the US version, the
19:06
back of the box from the US.
19:08
Nice, go on. Oh my God, I
19:10
can read that top line from here.
19:12
Oh well, it's different, it's a different
19:14
flavor to the other two. They're mean
19:17
moist and loaded fraction. On the necessity
19:19
scale, where does the word moist need
19:21
to see? It has to, you know,
19:23
it's there. And it goes further, it
19:25
says worms. It's an ultra-fast-paced game of
19:27
team strategy for up to 16 players.
19:29
It's a little bit lemons and a
19:31
lot of bit terminator. A lot of
19:33
bit. A lot of bit. Okay. Only
19:36
more pink and squishy. With bazookas, homey
19:38
missiles and cluster bombs blasting the screen
19:40
in an unrelenting fury, only the moist
19:42
can survive! With four teams and four
19:44
worms per team, each worm controlled by
19:46
a different player up to 16 players
19:48
can duke it out on a single
19:50
controller, which is pretty cool to be
19:53
fair. It's the ultimate battle strategy, wits
19:55
and reflexes, to gain dominance of challenging
19:57
landscapes from dirt and water to lava
19:59
and Martian gloop. Each battalion of four
20:01
worms takes turns bombarding the enemy with
20:03
whatever weapons they can dig up, including
20:05
the ultimate weapon, exploding killer sheep. There
20:07
you go. I quite like the tone
20:10
differences there. No, I'm sorry. No. No,
20:12
no, there's no need for the first
20:14
moist. And they've gone for two. Someone's
20:16
done it as a dare, surely. Why
20:18
did you? Okay, all right, fair enough.
20:20
Let's talk a bit more about Andy
20:22
Davidson. Actually, I've heard about this guy
20:24
for a while. Ever since we started
20:27
after attack, there's a few people I'd
20:29
love to have interviewed or interviewed or
20:31
interviewed for the show, whether that's text
20:33
or on the podcast. And I'm not
20:35
saying this, but Andy Davidson was one
20:37
of one of those, because I think
20:39
it's quite incredible. Even back in the
20:41
sort of mid-90s to make a game
20:43
basically in your bedroom and get it
20:46
out to the millions. So I was
20:48
a really interesting story. So yeah, Andy
20:50
Davidson, a then online computer shop employee
20:52
and a fan of Amiga Microcomputers since
20:54
1987. He began work on the project
20:56
in 1990 under the name Artillery based
20:58
on previous tank games from the 8-bit
21:00
era using a Cassio graphing calculator as
21:03
an experiment for his own amusement. So
21:05
Worms started on a Cassio. Wow, that's
21:07
unbelievable. He later moved his development of
21:09
the artillery to the Amiga in August
21:11
1993, which allowed him to expand his
21:13
idea further, leading him to introduce new
21:15
elements and a graphical style to distinguish
21:17
his project from its spiritual successes. Davison
21:20
wanted to achieve the same animation quality
21:22
and humor seen in Lemons, which led
21:24
him to employing worms as characters for
21:26
his project after various characters experiments through
21:28
deluxe paint. I think actually did actually
21:30
originally use some of the lemons graphics
21:32
in his first kind of prototype, but
21:34
obviously wouldn't be allowed to do that.
21:37
So with the additions of Worms as
21:39
characters and inspired by Blitz Basic Programming
21:41
competition held by Amigaa Forma Formate Magazine,
21:43
Davison renamed his project from artillery to
21:45
Total Wormage. and they say here, probably
21:47
a reference to Midway's total carnies. Yeah,
21:49
we don't know, we don't know, if
21:51
I didn't indicate we had Adi to
21:53
ask that question, we'll see. So featuring
21:56
55,000 levels, so it wasn't quite unlimited,
21:58
only 55,000. I think unlimited as far
22:00
as the sort of amount of time
22:02
you spent on it. You know, we're
22:04
going to get it for all. Right,
22:06
exactly. But he, and actually he wanted
22:08
to put this game in this Amiga
22:10
format magazine competition, so he thought this
22:13
is my perfect opportunity. But yeah, the
22:15
publications compared it with both Lemons and
22:17
Canon fodder due to its visual style
22:19
and themes, which Team 17's project manager,
22:21
Marcus Dyson, later claimed, was planned from
22:23
the start. Interestingly, Davidson, a good old
22:25
Andy, he didn't win the competition. And
22:27
actually, apparently, it didn't reach any place
22:30
for classification. It didn't really do much
22:32
in this competition. People didn't seem to
22:34
like it. But Davidson then pitched his
22:36
project to multiple publishers with no success.
22:38
But then a few years later, the
22:40
ECTS show in September 994, he actually
22:42
met Team 17 co-founder Martin Brown, who
22:44
would make an offer on the spot
22:47
to develop and publish it from then
22:49
on. And we've had Martin Brown on
22:51
the show in the past. So there
22:53
you go, go back and listen to
22:55
it. He talks a bit about worms
22:57
in there as well, but he codes
22:59
for the whole company, very interesting. But
23:01
level designs are randomly generated, they are
23:03
right though, James there, by using an
23:06
alphan numeric string as their seeds. The
23:08
object and landscape sets used to generate
23:10
the field are arranged into thematics, including
23:12
forests, Martian terrains, beaches, and even hell.
23:14
It's very clever. It looks like lemm.
23:16
How many ports of the worms can
23:18
we think of? Not a few. It
23:20
was on every... Do you want me
23:23
to with three of the ports? It's
23:25
crazy. So it first came on the
23:27
Amiga in November the 17th from 1995,
23:29
but then there was commercial ports of
23:31
the game again for the Amiga CD32.
23:33
The Atari Jaguar, that's free in a
23:35
row, I think. Oh God, here we
23:37
go again, every time. The Game Boy,
23:40
which I would love to just try
23:42
that out, just for a laugh, the
23:44
Macintosh, the MS-Doss, the PlayStation, the Sega
23:46
Mega Drive, the Sega Saturn, and the
23:48
Super Nintendo Enternament System. Interesting, the PlayStation
23:50
one, I think they had to make
23:52
the PlayStation one very, very interesting. the
23:54
back of the box because why was
23:57
there a little bit controversy with the
23:59
PlayStation copy of Worms? It's a very
24:01
interesting story here. It almost didn't get
24:03
released. Oh. What did Signee really want
24:05
to push for PlayStation? 3D, 100%. So
24:07
because it was 2D, it was subject
24:09
of loads of negotiations, Signee just weren't
24:11
interested. They had a policy apparently against
24:13
2D games being published for the console.
24:16
But eventually they wiggled it through and
24:18
the Saturn conversion was a straight port
24:20
of the PlayStation version. Very interesting. The
24:22
Jaguar version was published by Telegames in
24:24
1998 and actually this is interesting. It
24:26
was the last ever game released by
24:28
Telegames. Oh no, the last ever official
24:30
software published for the Jaguar. I was
24:33
going to say here in 1998. The
24:35
last ever official game. Obviously it's been
24:37
games after that. This last official one.
24:39
It also, yeah, it serves as the
24:41
final Atari licensed title ever to release
24:43
in the Jaguar. Two months earlier, unfortunately...
24:45
the Atari corporation basically went down, I
24:47
think it was dissolved, we know it's
24:50
still around a little bit here, but
24:52
only one year after this, all of
24:54
Jaguar's rights to it, they just released
24:56
all the Jaguar's rights to the public
24:58
domain, so all the games were available
25:00
now, aren't they almost free really? Pretty
25:02
crazy. There was a cancelled port, and
25:04
it's not the PlayStation, you imagine? Would
25:07
it? The game was to be published
25:09
by Ocean but was cancelled only weeks
25:11
into development as a result of Nintendo's
25:13
discontinuation of the console. And a 30X
25:15
release was also planned but was never
25:17
released. There's a lot of different ports
25:19
of worms. Just a few years. I
25:21
think this is still the first game
25:23
really. There's an enhanced Amiga version of
25:26
worms. Many people see it as the
25:28
best ever version of worms. Worms the
25:30
director's cut. There you go. So it's
25:32
enhanced really good and actually this was
25:34
Andy's project. He's a huge Amiga fan
25:36
on earth for a fact actually and
25:38
he wanted to make the best ever
25:40
version of the first worms on the
25:43
Amiga. And the weapons are now more
25:45
extensive and destructive than in the previous
25:47
game and actually include the first ever
25:49
appearances of Kenny on a rope type
25:51
of weapon, concrete donkey, priceless Ming Vars,
25:53
old woman and holy hand grenades. Which
25:55
is infamous. Yeah, it's infamous that particular
25:57
weapon. Also included is a level editor
26:00
that allows players to create their own
26:02
battlefields. So I have played the director's
26:04
cart and it is a cut up
26:06
above the original one. It's really good.
26:08
It's really really good. The gameplay, how
26:10
would you describe the gameplay? Talk to
26:12
me James. Okay, so you're kind of
26:14
randomly scattered across the battlefield and there's
26:17
no, you're not grouped with your team
26:19
per se, you're kind of scattered across
26:21
the landscape in amongst the enemy. on
26:23
how many teams there are etc. so
26:25
they could end up being quite a
26:27
few worms on the battlefield and where
26:29
you you drop in is it parachute
26:31
you drop in? Is it by pass
26:33
you to be or you just there?
26:36
Worms arm again and recent so I
26:38
can't quite, I think you might be
26:40
right though, where do you play Worms
26:42
again you just, you are with? Anyway,
26:44
so you're on the battlefield and you
26:46
have limited movement so you can only
26:48
move a certain amount of like wiggles,
26:50
can only move a certain amount of
26:53
like wiggles, can't you, in any one
26:55
direction? You can jump, but it's a
26:57
bit of a risk of jumping, where
26:59
you want to go, unless... you use
27:01
an actual like move. That's right. Because
27:03
you can use other movement things, can't
27:05
you? Like grappling hooks. Correct, yes. And
27:07
stuff like that, which is quite cool.
27:10
But then that sacrifices your turn. So
27:12
then the other guy gets a turn
27:14
and then if he shoots you, you
27:16
might die and all this sort of
27:18
thing. It's quite simple, but. it's because
27:20
there are so many different weapons and
27:22
ways and angles and stuff like that
27:24
that that's right like no two fights
27:27
are the same no no and there's
27:29
a lot of satisfaction that comes from
27:31
just aiming and firing a bazooka in
27:33
someone's face even if they are worms
27:35
you know it's very simple but very
27:37
very satisfying you move and then you
27:39
get to shoot and you have to
27:41
are most of the weapons you have
27:43
to aim at a certain angle and
27:46
and the wind as well. There's a
27:48
big impact on a number of weapons.
27:50
Yeah, because you can, you could, so
27:52
if you're, if you imagine like a
27:54
sort of a hill. where you've got
27:56
the crest in the middle, if you're
27:58
on one side and you've got like
28:00
one of the enemies left on the
28:03
other side, if I remember correctly, you
28:05
can get like, if you throw like
28:07
a banana bomb for example, which is
28:09
right, when it goes down, it basically
28:11
splits, doesn't it? But I'll split, but
28:13
if you throw it in the air
28:15
like straight up, if the wind's strong
28:17
enough, it throws it right across the
28:20
map. The wind can be your friend,
28:22
but it has a lot of size,
28:24
especially on bazak, especially on bazikas, especially
28:26
on bazikas, especially on bazikas, especially on
28:28
bazikas, especially on bazikas, especially on bazikas,
28:30
it, bazikas, bazikas, it, it, bazikas, badly
28:32
then you end up getting one in
28:34
the face and Because you yeah, there's
28:37
four teams of four worms future worms
28:39
you can shoot you can change that
28:41
slightly But each worm has got a
28:43
hundred hit points and that can be
28:45
depleted very quickly or a very little
28:47
little four we might knock off a
28:49
couple of points here and there But
28:51
if you if any one hits zero
28:54
what happens to your worm you don't
28:56
just die you Okay, so you get
28:58
out like a detonator box. Yes, and
29:00
then that and then they explode Yeah,
29:02
and that would cause a little crater
29:04
and destroy any worms around you. Yes,
29:06
in fact if you know chain reactions
29:08
is really cool. So like I said
29:10
guys, gameplay is turn-based, each turn the
29:13
player can control one specific worm from
29:15
his team. You can't select which worm
29:17
you want to use, you take it
29:19
in turns. The worm can crawl left
29:21
and right or jump, however there is
29:23
a time limit to make a move.
29:25
Also, if the worm falls from a
29:27
great height, it loses and the turn
29:30
ends immediately. And if a worm falls
29:32
into water off screen, it dies. Each
29:34
term a worm can also make a
29:36
single attack, the player can aim up
29:38
and down, choose a weapon and then
29:40
fire it. After attacking the turn ends.
29:42
And there are loads of weapons available.
29:44
We've got the standard bazookas which are
29:47
affected by the random wind settings and
29:49
gravity and also grenades which say sort
29:51
of the tin really. The others include
29:53
a fire punch, there's dynamite, airstrikes and
29:55
also utilities such as ropes and girders.
29:57
What's an air strike? How can you
29:59
picture what that was? the Chinese, can
30:01
remember that bit? Yes, go on Dale,
30:04
you're going to say. It just comes,
30:06
like the big ship just comes across.
30:08
That's right, yeah, well I go, and
30:10
it's pretty powerful. Hang on, hang on,
30:12
one second, one second, what was it?
30:14
Put up ah! But they, it didn't,
30:16
if I remember correctly, the more skill
30:18
that the weapon required, the higher the
30:20
damage, the higher the damage pretty much.
30:23
Yeah, I think so. So if you
30:25
got a dead hits. Sure, that might
30:27
take like 50 damage or something. I
30:29
think it was 50 damage directed. And
30:31
then, yeah, but the airstrikes wasn't as
30:33
much because... No, but it scattered it,
30:36
you could kill, but obviously it's obviously
30:38
a friendly fire as well. That we
30:40
always, yeah, it was, yeah. It was,
30:42
yeah. It was, and I've been playing
30:45
Worms on again, so apologies if this
30:47
is not in the original Worms, but
30:49
there's things like teleporters as well and
30:51
moving. that ranges from forests, deserts to
30:54
candy, lands, the moon. If you play
30:56
on the moon, there's different gravity as
30:58
well. Shots will leave craters in the
31:00
ground and complex tunnels can be formed
31:03
as well. So it's really good. A
31:05
ton of wonderful worm as well. By
31:07
March 1996, worms had a sale numbers
31:09
of almost quarter of a million
31:12
copies. And after it was releasing
31:14
all those other ports, how many worms
31:16
games are sold? Just the first
31:18
one. Any ideas, including all these
31:20
reports. A mill. Yeah. More than that.
31:22
It's a very successful game.
31:24
Two minutes. More. Wow. Ten mill.
31:27
More five a million. Wow. Oh, that
31:29
is a lot. Wow. Originally from a
31:31
Casio kind of graphical calculator. Respect. Respect.
31:33
Respect. Respect. working on it in their
31:35
bedroom. Obviously, I'm sure Andy, he wasn't
31:38
the third person to finish it all
31:40
completely in 2017. The concept, the concept,
31:42
the concept, but the bulk of the
31:44
game was made by Andy, the idea
31:46
came, obviously from inspiration, but it was
31:48
an absolute incredible story really when you
31:50
think about it. But it did divide
31:52
critics, some people loved it, others did
31:55
not enjoy it. So the Saturn version,
31:57
they praised the Worms game, they said
31:59
it's unexpected. complexity and the fun
32:01
of the multiplayer mode and they
32:03
called it quite simply the most
32:06
playable game to hit the Saturn
32:08
so far. Wow. Which is a big
32:10
thing. Keith? When did he come out on
32:12
the Saturn? What was it? I
32:14
think it was up. I mean I
32:17
think they're exaggerating slightly. I
32:19
think they're exactly the exact
32:21
same. Maximum, maximum, they
32:23
commented that basically Worms is
32:26
lemons, but it's without the
32:28
puzzles and with weapons instead.
32:30
Well, weird statement. They actually
32:32
found the game pretty dull
32:34
and unappealing, but they did acknowledge
32:37
that it was clearly well-like by
32:39
gamers, too. Gameers. Next Generation argued
32:41
that while the game resembles lemons
32:43
on a cursory examination, it's actually
32:45
much more simple as a cannon
32:47
fodder, praising the need for both
32:50
strategy and skill, the multiplayer design
32:52
and the randomly generated landscapes they
32:54
described Worms as the kind of
32:56
game that makes no excuses for
32:58
its lack of texture map polygons
33:00
or its minimalistic gameplay. Worms is
33:03
a fun game with an infectious spirit and
33:05
near endless replay value. And I agree with
33:07
that. It was those games I love playing
33:09
my brothers. even when you thought you're out
33:11
the game and you had like one bit
33:13
of health left or something could happen that
33:15
you could somehow get a crate that falls
33:17
in your head could be a holy hand
33:19
grenade or I don't like a banana bomb
33:21
and you have one last photo dice and
33:23
somehow but against the odds you can you
33:25
can win that that particular round it's it's
33:27
an unbelievably and if you achieve that you
33:29
want to play another game Let's play another
33:31
game. You always want to play another game
33:33
because you'll be like, if I remember correctly
33:35
when we played it, it was like, oh
33:37
best of free. Best of five. Oh no,
33:39
best of, best of, best of, last about
33:41
10 minutes, 15 minutes each round. They could
33:43
be quite long games really. Yeah, yeah. Especially
33:45
when you start being like girders and strategies
33:47
into it and hiding away of it. No,
33:49
what was it? No one said I was,
33:52
you know, fair and absolutely plain, but it
33:54
was just a good game. It was good
33:56
fun. It was really good fun. And you
33:58
could rename your worms and stuff like that.
34:00
Just brilliant. I'll say one thing on
34:02
that though, when you're talking about the
34:04
fact that Sony were pushing 3D and
34:06
it nearly didn't get made and the
34:08
time it was released and all this
34:10
sort of stuff. It just shows you,
34:13
it just shows you that when you've
34:15
got a good concept and you've got
34:17
an idea and you put it out
34:19
to market, you don't have to necessarily
34:21
have super flashy graphics and all the
34:24
other stuff to go with it. As
34:26
long as you've got something that's got
34:28
substance and it's funny, engaging. and sort
34:30
of got like that slightly addictive element
34:32
to it then I'm not that I'm
34:34
advocating advocating any kind of addiction you
34:37
know that it kind of like it's
34:39
got replay value in it it just
34:41
made you don't have to have all
34:43
the flashiest graphics you don't have to
34:45
have the flashiest soundtracks you know it's
34:48
something that's playable it's fun I think
34:50
that's I think that was sort of
34:52
one in the eye almost for like
34:54
3D games at the time because there's
34:56
so many things old-fashioned. Why would we
34:59
want to play this when I can
35:01
play free? Well like they said with
35:03
some of the critics there isn't it?
35:05
Yeah we've seen him before. Game pros.
35:07
They basically, Keith you're gonna say this
35:09
is, go on, they said here, they
35:12
summarize that worms has a, is a
35:14
humorous concept that never really pays off
35:16
in worms. The reviewer criticised that the
35:18
tiny size of the characters and their
35:20
weapons make them unappeared in and even
35:23
hard to make out, while allowing that
35:25
use of the different weapons is interesting
35:27
at first. He found the action too
35:29
slow-paced and repetitive to maintain interest. But
35:31
the whole point of the game is
35:33
term-based. I know. So that's basically someone
35:36
who doesn't like term-based games. Well why
35:38
are you reviewing a term-based game? or
35:40
even Worm-based game. Worm-based game. Worm-based, worm-based.
35:42
I just got it so fun and
35:44
it's just one of those games you
35:47
picked up and had a laugh for
35:49
your mates. One player mode's fine against
35:51
the computer. That's okay, but I had
35:53
much more fun replaying it recently with
35:55
my son Tay and Reese. I got
35:58
on steam for about two quid, Worms
36:00
I'm again. I got it just for
36:02
a couple quid and he'll be playing
36:04
it all week. You know it's a
36:06
good game when my son when my
36:08
son's like... I'm sorry, do you want
36:11
to play a game of worms? Yes.
36:13
I'm not begging him to play worms.
36:15
Yeah. Let's play a game of worms.
36:17
I'm pretty sure I've got Worms Armageddon
36:19
on my PS Plus. It's a good
36:22
game actually. Library. It's not too late
36:24
later on. I've got all of the
36:26
time. I've got a look into that
36:28
because it's probably on Xbox. Yeah. Because
36:30
it's probably on Xbox. Because it's probably
36:32
on Xbox as well, because it's probably
36:35
on Xbox, actually. Yeah. Because it's probably
36:37
on Xbox. It's probably on Xbox. sphere,
36:39
and it's literally got a cross on
36:41
the top of it. That's right, yeah.
36:43
And you chuck it, and I think
36:46
it's like... It's the most powerful weapon
36:48
I believe. It just creates this massive
36:50
explosion. It's like one of the most
36:52
ridiculously powerful, like single explosion. I think
36:54
the banana bomb is close behind it.
36:57
It's like a scatter bomb, it's like
36:59
a scatter bomb, it's like a scatter
37:01
bomb, it's like a scatter bomb, it's
37:03
just like a scatter bomb, it's just
37:05
one big explosion. But the mine's as
37:07
well, jump in the mine, so you
37:10
can walk in. And some of the
37:12
mines I think are, I think, I've
37:14
dug the mines, I think, I think,
37:16
I've, I've dug, I've dug the, I've
37:18
dug the, I've dug the, I've dug
37:21
the, I've dug the, I've dug the,
37:23
I've dug mine, I've, I've, I've, I've,
37:25
I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've,
37:27
I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've,
37:29
I've, scheming to get next to this
37:31
other guy and you put like I'm
37:34
just gonna drop a mine here and
37:36
you walk off yeah you walk off
37:38
and it goes yeah and it's like
37:40
no that's what I'm saying it's just
37:42
a great fun because it's just a
37:45
fun game it's part of the humor
37:47
though and it's quite good that's right
37:49
did we ever play against each other
37:51
didn't I can't remember it no so
37:53
I only ever played in the single-player
37:56
mode and that's why I didn't I
37:58
liked it in the single- That party
38:00
sort of thing. Actually, well I didn't
38:02
play multiplayer worms until later in the
38:04
series and I'll give a little story
38:06
about that later on. Like I said,
38:09
I've got worms and arm again recently
38:11
and I actually I actually called our
38:13
worms team Arcade Attack. And I called
38:15
it was me, there was Dilling, there
38:17
was Keith and it was Tate Worms.
38:20
And unfortunately Tate Worms took you out
38:22
quite a lot of time. It was
38:24
the most powerful worm. And in Worms'
38:26
arm again, you can actually change the
38:28
voices and he had like robotics, you
38:30
can scouse the voices and all that.
38:33
It's really quite clever. All different accents.
38:35
There's loads of Worms games guys and
38:37
some are really good, some are not
38:39
so good. Does anyone hazard a guess
38:41
how many worms games have been released?
38:44
Ten. Incorrect. Is it in between those
38:46
numbers? 8 more more 30 more lower
38:48
than 30 25 I've got here 26
38:50
but that doesn't include the the worms
38:52
arm again and 20 anniversary it's literally
38:55
just come out I had no idea
38:57
there was this many I'm gonna wiz
38:59
for him you're ready for this we've
39:01
got worms in 995 then we got
39:03
worms director's cut which I guess we're
39:05
let's slide a little bit and then
39:08
we got worms bimble which I haven't
39:10
played. But then we got Worms Armageddon
39:12
which is a very polished looking game.
39:14
It's just Worms were very polished graphics.
39:16
It looks pretty good. I quite like
39:19
it. I like the old pixel look
39:21
of Worms and I actually think Worms
39:23
Armageddon was after that. I think Andy
39:25
left Team 17. I think he came
39:27
a bit later actually but I think
39:30
that was when he sort of left
39:32
his Worms legacy at that time at
39:34
least. Then there was Worms World Party,
39:36
World Party, Worms Blast, Worms, Worms, Worms,
39:38
Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms,
39:40
Worms, Worms. Worms for mayhem, worms open
39:43
warfare, worms open warfare too, worms a
39:45
space oddity, worms too, omegan, worms reloaded,
39:47
worms battle islands, worms ultimate mayhem, worms
39:49
crazy golf, who would have thought that?
39:51
Went so as I just with golf.
39:54
Worms revolution, worms free, it's a bit
39:56
odd, isn't it? Worms clan wars, worms
39:58
battlegrounds, worms for, and worms WMDMD MDMD,
40:00
and Worms WMD, and there's a big
40:02
gap. and in 2020 they made Worms
40:04
rumble. Lots of Worms games. I haven't
40:07
played many of those Worms games. I
40:09
have no clue. But Dylan, you said
40:11
you played a few of those Worms
40:13
games. But I knew everything you were
40:15
going to take because I've got a
40:18
time line. You're cheeky boy. In honesty,
40:20
I've only played... Armageddon some of the
40:22
newer ones I think WMD I think
40:24
I might have played it but yeah
40:26
the one that I played most surprisingly
40:29
is Worms 3D what seriously so at
40:31
uni don't like you so one of
40:33
my new mates Craig actually listened to
40:35
the podcast so hi Craig and he
40:37
had a Xbox original Xbox, which actually
40:39
kept us going quite a lot because,
40:42
you know, we like studying the, you
40:44
know, mostly not studying. Yeah, so you
40:46
just be like him, me, our mate
40:48
John, just playing, you know, just like,
40:50
it's, and it basically is the same
40:53
kind of premise, but you can kind
40:55
of swing the camera around and you
40:57
kind of like shoot stuff. And there
40:59
was one time like, we just had
41:01
like some har on and had like
41:03
the Sun The Way Shines on TV
41:06
on TV on while we were playing
41:08
and stuff, it was pretty cool. It
41:10
was pretty cool. But then one day
41:12
something really weird happened. So I think
41:14
like John or Craig, they were aiming
41:17
a blast at each other. And then
41:19
as soon as it hit the other
41:21
worm, it sounded like ridiculously loud, like
41:23
boom! Like what on earth? That was
41:25
a mate. That must have been like
41:28
a critical hit. What happened was there
41:30
was like some weird storm outside the
41:32
house and some kind of weird electrical
41:34
ball was outside the house. Yeah, my
41:36
mate took a picture of it and
41:38
sent it to the BBZ or something.
41:41
But yeah, anyway, so that was my
41:43
little brief. Worms 3D, Worms 3D, Worms
41:45
3D story. So, it's a good story,
41:47
man. Guys, like I said, Team 17
41:49
helped Andy develop the game in the
41:52
series up to 1999, where Andy quit
41:54
around the release of O'em's Armageddon, apparently
41:56
due to created differences. However, before the
41:58
release of Worms Revolution, he decided to
42:00
come back to Team 17 because he
42:02
felt the urge to scratch that creative
42:05
itch. So after the release of Worms
42:07
Revolution though he left Andy Left team
42:09
17 again for unknown reasons. But this
42:11
is interesting in 2018 he announced a
42:13
new update for Worms the director's cart
42:16
after he noticed the immediate community was
42:18
still alive. The update focuses on adding
42:20
some new features such as worm select
42:22
and new sudden deaf options. I think
42:24
these are things that have come up
42:27
in future worms games and he's put
42:29
them into his official directors cut cut
42:31
cut version. Big big respect. Do you
42:33
know whiz for a few of the
42:35
other sort of... infamous game weapons really,
42:37
because there's quite a few that have
42:40
maybe have been very topical at the
42:42
time, lots of kind of pop culture
42:44
references. But yeah, there's loads and loads
42:46
of weapons. I think it says here,
42:48
in the 3D versions, there's might be
42:51
up to about 40 weapons, it might
42:53
be 40, maybe ones. But the 2D
42:55
versions, I think it got up to
42:57
about 60 different weapons, which is incredible.
42:59
And the weapons definitely, you know, we
43:01
talked, spoke about it already, they ranged
43:04
from grenadesades, exploding sheep, the banana bomb,
43:06
and they also had some interesting iconic
43:08
weapons like the Holy Hand grenade and
43:10
the priceless Ming Vars and the inflatable
43:12
scour, which is a bit controversial. There's
43:15
even some more bizarre weapons actually that
43:17
are based on very topical subjects at
43:19
the time, a little bit controversial, they
43:21
had something called the male strike. which
43:23
consists of flying postboxes dropping exploding envelopes
43:26
in reference to the postal strikes at
43:28
the time. Nice. While the mad cow...
43:30
There's a mad cow referred to what
43:32
happened. Mad cow, yes exactly, of the
43:34
1990s. There was also the French nuclear
43:36
test which was introduced in Worms too.
43:39
They actually bought in the Indian nuclear
43:41
test in Worms arm again to keep
43:43
with the times. It's a little bit
43:45
close to the knuckles. Other weapons are
43:47
inside jokes. The MB bomb for example
43:50
which floats down from the sky and
43:52
explodes an impact is a cartoon caricature
43:54
of Martin Brown, there you go, the
43:56
studio director of the team 17. Other
43:58
such weapons include the concrete donkey, one
44:00
of the most powerful weapons in the
44:03
game, which is based on a garden
44:05
ornament in Andy Davidson's home garden. So
44:07
he's like, what can I bring into
44:09
my other concrete donkey? And an air
44:11
strike known in the game as Mike's
44:14
carpet. was actually inspired by a store
44:16
near the team 17 headquarters called Mike's
44:18
Carpet. Good old Mike. So I quite
44:20
like that. Some really sort of if
44:22
you kind of real big in jokes
44:25
there really. The general reception for the
44:27
series at the whole so while initial
44:29
installments were generally praised later games in
44:31
the series have been criticised for their
44:33
lack of meaningful additions. They kind of
44:35
haven't really moved... That's what I was
44:38
going to say to you like there's
44:40
that many games but what really changed
44:42
over those... Apart from the ones that
44:44
are obviously different like pinball and golf.
44:46
Yeah, crazy golf. Yeah. Well it says
44:49
to you, in 2001, Metacritic quoted Worms,
44:51
World Party reviews, and the comments were
44:53
things like, it's virtually nothing more than
44:55
expansion part for Worms Arm again. And
44:57
Action Trips, Dejan Grubrovich, we can always
44:59
trust good old Dejan, he said, Dejan,
45:02
and I thought that only ADOS was
45:04
in... Is it impertinent enough to keep
45:06
selling the same game, slightly different names?
45:08
In 2007, IGN included the Worms series
45:10
in its list of games franchises that
45:13
had jumped the shot. Was he talking
45:15
about Tomb Raider? It doesn't actually say,
45:17
but I'm assuming, he's probably meaning Tomb
45:19
Raider, in games. But I don't know,
45:21
I've always, I haven't played a lot
45:24
of the most recent Worms games. So
45:26
I can't really comment too much because
45:28
I kind of went through a bit
45:30
of a worms phase and that was
45:32
it and worms are again was my
45:34
kind of last real bite of the
45:37
cherry. But I did kind of get
45:39
the point. It was really team 70's
45:41
cash cow for many many years. But
45:43
in a weird way, I'm going to
45:45
say team 17 wouldn't be around today
45:48
without worms. So I know you can
45:50
argue they should maybe and they have
45:52
tried to release newer games like I
45:54
played some other ones recently, forget it.
45:56
They do give chances to people developing
45:58
new games. Like there's a Project X
46:01
game, the Amiga one, have you seen
46:03
it on the one else? Yeah, Project
46:05
X. They are good, they are good.
46:07
Bring like those guys up. But we
46:09
know there's somebody good Amiga companies, Team
46:12
17 were known for the Amiga, but
46:14
look at sensible. They're no way to
46:16
be seen. Ball frog, long gone. So
46:18
in a weird way, I know you
46:20
can argue worms is a little bit
46:23
of a cash cow or a cashworm
46:25
even. But why not take advantage of
46:27
that? It's a tough one, isn't it?
46:29
I think where you've got so much
46:31
coming out from different studios left right
46:33
and centre. And let's be honest, we've
46:36
always talked about the stuff that gets
46:38
released that shouldn't be released because it's
46:40
not complete and it's well known. is
46:42
always generally been well received and okay
46:44
you've probably got some ones that are
46:47
just add-ons rehashes whatever you know dressed
46:49
up as new games but they're familiar
46:51
they're fun they're still going to be
46:53
the same kind of irreverent like weird
46:55
wacky humor so the thing is you
46:57
know as a game you'd be like
47:00
oh yeah a bit of worms yeah
47:02
we got have a good worms I
47:04
agree with you because this is it's
47:06
a completely different thing a studio like
47:08
team 17 doing that I'm bringing out
47:11
games that are sort of the same
47:13
they're completely different than EA churning out
47:15
the same game every year, every year,
47:17
every year, you know, because the billion
47:19
billion billion dollar company, Team 17, yeah,
47:22
it's just somehow still going. It's a
47:24
British company as well. It's a very
47:26
different situation, you know, you can't be
47:28
quietly doing that. No. I think they
47:30
still do respect their previous games. I'm
47:32
just waiting for another body place. Come
47:35
on, Team 70. Look on eBay. We're
47:37
going over to eBay corner. Worms 3D
47:39
on the Xbox. I was mentioning earlier
47:41
that we used to play you can
47:43
get it from music mag pie on
47:46
eBay on eBay for four pound 27.
47:48
Bargaining. It might destroy your PC. Oh
47:50
man. In total, couldn't all the Worms
47:52
games add together? I've got a rough
47:54
figure here, well from 2020, so in
47:56
total, how many total Worms games have
47:59
been sold? So sorry, the first one
48:01
was five minutes, was it, was it,
48:03
just on its own? Forty-mill. Good guess,
48:05
but a little bit more. Sixty-two and
48:07
a half. Higher. Seventy. Seventy. Seventy. Five
48:10
million, well-worth looking, man. And then you
48:12
can see why. How many body plays?
48:14
Copies were sold, I wonder. Seventy-and-a-half. Yeah,
48:16
that's it. I'm just going to finish
48:18
up with some crazy facts about some
48:21
of the Worms games and there's some
48:23
really interesting stories about this. He's a
48:25
great actually. There was a really peculiar
48:27
Worms advert made for TV and cinema.
48:29
I don't know if you've seen this
48:31
in a maternity ward. Oh I think
48:34
I've seen that. The person gives birth.
48:36
An enormous worm, I've seen that, gives
48:38
birth to an enormous worm while everyone
48:40
around the hospital was saying, you've got
48:42
the whole worm in your hands. It's
48:45
absolutely disgusted. Is it on YouTube? I
48:47
mean, it might be. It reminds me,
48:49
you know, in flight, in the fly
48:51
too, or is it back back in
48:53
the fly when she pictures? Yeah, yeah,
48:55
yeah, yeah. It reminds me of that
48:58
a bit. God, oh my God, oh
49:00
my God. I've seen that. Yeah, I'm
49:02
pretty sure I've seen that. from the
49:04
game? No, it's like a wiggly, like
49:06
a puppet kind of thing. It's pretty
49:09
disgusting. But no, but it is like
49:11
a cartoony thing, isn't it? I might
49:13
be getting the fly mixed up my
49:15
head again. There's always get my head
49:17
over. Flies and worms. Flies and worms.
49:20
That's two very different images you got
49:22
there. Yeah, cartoon women are fly. There's
49:24
also been some really interesting merchandise for
49:26
the franchise over the years, including a
49:28
worms armageddon shower gel. Nice. Oh, okay.
49:30
What scent was the work? I don't
49:33
think we want to know. Just to
49:35
make news Africa. Extra moist. Extra moist.
49:37
In Germany, the franchise has been, has
49:39
been, has been, has twice been promoted
49:41
in a magazine with a worms condom
49:44
giveaway on the front cover. For worms
49:46
too, the condom was pink and for
49:48
worms I'm again, and it was black.
49:50
Okay. Well, could you imagine? the average
49:52
the other wasn't anyway that's that's a
49:54
little quick thing only the moist survive
49:57
anyway yeah like I said guys over
49:59
the years has been a number of
50:01
worms related spin-off games these include worms
50:03
blast worms pimble and worms crazy have
50:05
you played any of those no I
50:08
like a good golf game. But there's
50:10
also a Worms themed course in golf
50:12
with your friends. Have you heard of
50:14
that game? Yes! Hold on! Hold on!
50:16
Yes, I play it! Developed by Black
50:19
Light Interactive and released under the C17
50:21
games label. I play it on the
50:23
series X and I play it with
50:25
my brother and his mate. The Worms!
50:27
You've just reminded me of it, but
50:29
yeah. And it's... Oh yes! I don't
50:32
remember the Worms, I'll have to give
50:34
you an idea of the level. a
50:36
standard crazy golf course if you will
50:38
yeah you've got obviously lots of different
50:40
holes landscape but this is like on
50:43
a mental level so you're essentially imagine
50:45
if you're playing crazy golf from the
50:47
view of a worm on one of
50:49
the landscapes okay so like on the
50:51
levels you know where you sit and
50:53
you're on the landscape like candy world
50:56
or whatever except this one has got
50:58
like mini tanks great big craters like
51:00
just like it's a war zone essentially
51:02
and you've got things like dropping bombs
51:04
Like there's this like the holy hangarings
51:07
dropping and also you've got the exploding
51:09
sheep. which is like sitting near the
51:11
hole and if you hit the sheep
51:13
explodes and blows your ballaw. Nice. But
51:15
yeah, it's, ah, I've just remembered when
51:18
you said that, yeah, they've actually got
51:20
a whole level, a whole goal, like
51:22
18 holes on golf with your friends.
51:24
Yeah, it's worth checking out. In the
51:26
Worms games, if you release the sheep,
51:28
it kind of jumps around. And what
51:31
I love about a sheep is it
51:33
can jump anywhere really, it can kind
51:35
of hurt you, it can kind of
51:37
hurt you, but... if you go to
51:39
the right place, boom. And the skunk
51:42
similar, you release a skunk, if you
51:44
throw a space bar, it releases all
51:46
these poisonous gases. It doesn't kill you
51:48
outright, it kind of, you know in
51:50
games where you can turn like. a
51:53
discussing yellow colour and your next few
51:55
rounds. You're poisoned. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah,
51:57
yeah. Poisoned. That's what I've speculated. Poison.
51:59
There's also been other games featuring the
52:01
creatures that didn't make the cup. So
52:03
Team 17 actually got very far into
52:06
developing Worms battle rally, which started live
52:08
as a Mario cart clone with worms.
52:10
Oh, all the famous Worms characters. We've
52:12
got Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms, Worms,
52:14
Wormske, and take Worms. Can you imagine
52:17
that, Mario, oh dear me. But apparently
52:19
this game, it was going to be
52:21
a Mario Kart clone, but then it
52:23
later evolved into a twisted metal style
52:25
vehicular base combat death match game. What's
52:27
she pointing at me for? because I
52:30
know you like twisted metal. I do
52:32
not a twisting mat with it. So
52:34
it never came out unfortunately, but you
52:36
can imagine that. It makes more sense
52:38
to be that thing than like a
52:41
cart racer, doesn't it? Like a death
52:43
match. Yeah, it's a bit, sort of
52:45
like that, a reverie. You kind of,
52:47
well, a, well a wormie. And you
52:49
can be, well a wormie. Well a
52:52
wormie. Oh yeah, from obviously the crowd.
52:54
He was, he's done some voices and
52:56
Catherine Parkinson, again, yeah, she was generally
52:58
90, same, yeah. They both provided voiceovers
53:00
for titles in the franchise and there's
53:02
even been a serial superstar, the voice
53:05
of Tony the Tiger, he voiced a
53:07
few months as well. This is great.
53:09
Ah, worms very nearly featured on the
53:11
silver screen in the 90s, it was
53:13
so close apparently to appearing in lethal
53:16
weapon 4. No. At which point were
53:18
you going to be put in? They're
53:20
in discussions with the production company so
53:22
that Mel Gibson's character of Martin Riggs
53:24
would be playing Worms too at some
53:26
points during the game. Sadly, the Hollywood
53:29
Walker Fame star didn't come to pass.
53:31
It didn't happen. Damn! Yeah that's a
53:33
shame isn't it? I can't imagine how
53:35
that would have fit in the film.
53:37
No I can't but that would have
53:40
just been awesome though. Part of... I
53:42
know but I don't imagine Riggs playing
53:44
Worms. No I don't know. Well the
53:46
only place he'd be playing it was
53:48
at Myrtle's house because he's got a...
53:51
Oh he's got a teenage son isn't
53:53
even four, I don't know. It's all
53:55
right Chris Rock's in it as well.
53:57
Yeah it's all right. It'd be all
53:59
right, okay. It's all right. Are you
54:01
sad it wasn't in the film then?
54:04
It probably would have made it better,
54:06
I guess. Man, God, you'd be going
54:08
to like the first three. I'm just
54:10
not such a big fan of the
54:12
four. Now Team 17, they're, they're cheeky
54:15
scamps because they once in April Fool's
54:17
joke, and they actually announced that worms
54:19
would be released on the ZEleg spectrum.
54:21
Yeah, and actually Team 17 was based
54:23
in Osset, in Yorkshire, There's a, there's
54:25
a, and it features a sign that
54:28
sells in the hell level that simply
54:30
says welcome to Osset. So they haven't
54:32
visited Croydon obviously because you know they'll
54:34
get that wrong with it. But that's
54:36
it guys. I really enjoyed Worms growing
54:39
up. It was one of those weird
54:41
little games I played for maybe a
54:43
year or two quite intensely and I
54:45
kind of forgot about it. Recently we're
54:47
playing Worms Arm again and again has
54:50
bought a lot of memories. I was
54:52
quite scared I thought we might not
54:54
be quite fun and a little bit
54:56
laborious and maybe repetitive like they hinted
54:58
earlier but I disagree if you play
55:00
against mates or in this case playing
55:03
against mates or in this case playing
55:05
against my son there's something there's nothing
55:07
more satisfying than releasing a banana bomb
55:09
and watching it explode every day and
55:11
causing anarchy I know I love it
55:14
so much so it's a really fun
55:16
game and it's a really fun game
55:18
and it's a really fun game it
55:20
evergreen. But Worms Armageddon 25th anniversary is
55:22
out now. It's out right now. Excellent.
55:24
Go get it. I might get it
55:27
on the switch, I might treat myself.
55:29
We're not we're not going to go
55:31
to eBay Corner. eBay Corner, let's go
55:33
to Mailbag Corner, I think. Mail, Mail,
55:35
back, what is it? What is Mailbag
55:38
Corner, right? Well, if you join our
55:40
patron, you can suggest patron episodes, which,
55:42
you know, you can, and you get
55:44
exclusive episodes, maybe once a month, we're
55:46
a little bit of luck. I think
55:49
that's the plan. We're a little with
55:51
that. Yeah, but we've also got a
55:53
little discussion where you can suggest questions
55:55
you'd like us to answer on a
55:57
regular pod. If you've got any crazy
55:59
questions, whether, you know, I don't know,
56:02
what, you know, anything about work experience
56:04
or worms or cans or kinds of
56:06
coke, I don't know. Or work experience,
56:08
yeah, exactly. But you can ask any
56:10
crazy questions. Doesn't have to be game
56:13
related and we're going to try and
56:15
fit them in what we like to
56:17
call mailbag corner. And it's, and I've
56:19
got the pleasure and the privilege today
56:21
of reading out three such questions from
56:23
mailbag corner. I've got one from Sam
56:26
Kavanaugh or Havana. Are we gonna do
56:28
them one at a time? Are we
56:30
doing one at a time? Are we
56:32
doing one at a time? Are we
56:34
doing one at a time? Are we
56:37
doing one at a time or are
56:39
we doing? I'd like the question then
56:41
us answering and then the question. Yes,
56:43
yes, yes, yes. says Sam what Mega
56:45
Man game was your favorite including favorite
56:48
weapon this is easy refer back to
56:50
our Mega Man pot one thing quick
56:52
have a listen I don't like all
56:54
any of them I'm just kidding doesn't
56:56
like them because it's too hard I'm
56:58
just kidding the first one I'm the
57:01
first one because of guts man is
57:03
Dylan's choice Favorite Mega Man game, Keith?
57:05
Don't really have one. What was the
57:07
one, what was the one on the
57:09
Snares, was that Mega Man X? Yes,
57:12
well it was several. Oh, okay. Mega
57:14
Man X was like the big one.
57:16
The main one. It was on the
57:18
East, there's mini. Yes, yes. I like
57:20
that one. My limited Mega Man experience.
57:22
My favorite one is the second one
57:25
on the Nes. Well, because I played
57:27
a few before your pod. And that's
57:29
just grab me a bit. And I
57:31
can't remember if this is the right
57:33
person, but I mean, is it Rockman?
57:36
Was he a number two? Rockman. Rockman
57:38
is Mega Man over in Japan and
57:40
America. So that's my favorite. Rockman. So
57:42
it'll be the Mega Buster then, which
57:44
is his basic weapon. Yes. As you
57:47
can tell, they didn't listen to a
57:49
single word. I said to the Mega
57:51
Man! This is great! So the correct
57:53
answer is Mega Man 2. Yes, that's
57:55
the correct answer. Well, the answer I
57:57
always say is Mega Man 2 because
58:00
it was the it was like the
58:02
biggest of the games because one was
58:04
like okay, but two was like the
58:06
big kind of success. But favorite weapon,
58:08
there's just tons, there's so many. So,
58:11
but there's two that I like, one
58:13
is Metal Man's Blades. Metal Blades, because
58:15
they can basically kill everything. And the
58:17
other one is actually Mega Man 11,
58:19
which was around in like 2012, which
58:21
is a set of blocks that you
58:24
can use to put above people, like
58:26
opponents, heads and drop them. And they're
58:28
quite cool. So you don't like Guts
58:30
Man's Guts. I don't like Guts Man's
58:32
Guts. No, I like Metal Man's Metal
58:35
Blades. Metal Man's Metal Blades. And Block
58:37
Man's Rocks. Rock Man's Rocks. Well Rock
58:39
Man doesn't have rocks, unless you kill
58:41
Block Man, who has Block Man, who
58:43
has blocks. So yeah, but there's tar,
58:46
there's so many. there's so many Mega
58:48
Man weapons but yeah Metal Man's metal
58:50
blades and maybe the maybe the leaf
58:52
shield as well from not with Man
58:54
but anyway I could go on and
58:56
on for days about that because that's
58:59
like mine it's good at least one
59:01
of us has favorite experience with Mega
59:03
Man favorite 8-bit games and favorite kind
59:05
of modern Mega as well so second
59:07
question so you're going to please move
59:10
on. Now this is really different now
59:12
this is really different now this might
59:14
have happened in a video game it
59:16
might have happened in a video game
59:18
it might have done I don't have
59:20
seen in real life What would win
59:23
in a fight between a lion and
59:25
a gorilla? And why? And why? And
59:27
why? And this is from Andy E.
59:29
And Andy E. Who's had quite a
59:31
bit of input actually in our region.
59:34
He really has. And he's on it,
59:36
man. He's like power. I thought you
59:38
said you couldn't be a lion. They
59:40
can't be a lion. Oh, you can't
59:42
be a guy. Well, my gut says,
59:45
you know, a primal rage. Yeah. You
59:47
can't be a big kind of gorilla
59:49
ape thing. Yeah. And he's pretty bad.
59:51
So I'm going. And he's pretty bad.
59:53
So I'm going with the primal age.
59:55
So which one is that? Gorilla? I
59:58
thought you said you couldn't be a
1:00:00
lion. They can't be a lion. Oh,
1:00:02
you can't be a lion. I'm inclined
1:00:04
to say guerrilla as well. Okay, keeps
1:00:06
saying guerrilla as well. That's too for
1:00:09
guerrilla. Yeah. As the as the mailbag
1:00:11
reader I've got the costume. I feel
1:00:13
like if the guerrilla gets his hands
1:00:15
on the lion's door. But this is
1:00:17
the thing like because I think like
1:00:19
the lion can if the lion is
1:00:22
a quick lion. then I think the
1:00:24
line would win because he's more bitey.
1:00:26
He's more bite. Oh yeah, and actually
1:00:28
if he's clever he could kind of
1:00:30
like circle the gorilla and kind of
1:00:33
use his teeth to kind of like
1:00:35
just you know wear him away bleed
1:00:37
him out basically run away a bit
1:00:39
run away a bit and then the
1:00:41
gorilla yeah he's got the speed. If
1:00:44
he's dumb and just tries to go
1:00:46
head to head against a gorilla, grill
1:00:48
will just grab him and smash his
1:00:50
face. So it's not really, it's more
1:00:52
about if it's a smart lion or
1:00:54
not. Smart. If it's a smart lion.
1:00:57
No, you're talking rubbish. Sorry. It's got
1:00:59
to be a gorilla. Well I did
1:01:01
say that initially. It's got... Hello? It
1:01:03
has to be surely. So the gorilla
1:01:05
could just like speed. Yeah, strength, speed,
1:01:08
hitting power, everything. And the gorilla will
1:01:10
be smarter as well. Yeah. It will
1:01:12
probably outsmart the lion. I mean, no.
1:01:14
Speed, outwork, range, everything. I kind of
1:01:16
want it to be the lion, but
1:01:18
I feel like the gorilla will probably
1:01:21
get scratched up a bit, but he
1:01:23
ain't losing that. Sorry. Well, maybe Andy's
1:01:25
got different views on this, because he's
1:01:27
asked the question. And he knows that
1:01:29
it. Andy, who would win? Tell us
1:01:32
and why. Final question. from Luke, I've
1:01:34
got to pronounce his surname right, Yandel
1:01:36
or Yandel, Yandel, Luke Yandel, Luke Y,
1:01:38
Luke Y, said and asked do you
1:01:40
have any second-hand cartridge trading regrets from
1:01:43
the 90s? So have you traded or
1:01:45
sold anything that you thought, oh God,
1:01:47
and dragon on the mega drive, shouldn't
1:01:49
have traded that in, that was a
1:01:51
great game, I think that's actually worth
1:01:53
a bit of money, I think so,
1:01:56
Sonic 3. I think as well, I
1:01:58
think that's worth a few quid. There's
1:02:00
a few. Yeah. You don't want to
1:02:02
think about an idea? Not really. Not
1:02:04
so much, for me, it wasn't so
1:02:07
much trade, it's not the same question,
1:02:09
but not really trading in, but like
1:02:11
my whole megadrive collection and the console
1:02:13
got given away. Yeah. You know, when
1:02:15
we moved on to the sat and
1:02:17
my dad just gave it away to
1:02:20
a friend of ours for their kids
1:02:22
and it was like, mmm. Talk about
1:02:24
regrets. Yeah, it's funny. It's funny. It's
1:02:26
funny you say that because I mentioned
1:02:28
this earlier this evening and every time
1:02:31
I had this kind of plan that
1:02:33
every time a new console came out
1:02:35
I'd use the previous console that I
1:02:37
had plus my massive game collection and
1:02:39
all the various controls to help paper
1:02:42
it as kind of like collateral against
1:02:44
the new one. And I did that
1:02:46
with I did that with the the
1:02:48
PS1. I did that then with the
1:02:50
PS2. and then I did it with
1:02:52
an Xbox to get a 360, I
1:02:55
did it with the 360 to get
1:02:57
an actual one. It's fun, isn't it?
1:02:59
You spend all these time playing these
1:03:01
games and loving these games with this
1:03:03
console and then the new shiny one
1:03:06
comes along and you're like, oh, I'll
1:03:08
never want these again. Honestly, now, there
1:03:10
isn't a day that goes by, I
1:03:12
don't think I wish I had each
1:03:14
and every one of them. And I
1:03:16
wish I had each and every game
1:03:19
because I had hundreds of games. And
1:03:21
I had hundreds of games. And I
1:03:23
literally just like, like, like, like, like,
1:03:25
like, like, like, like, like, like, like,
1:03:27
like, like, like, like, like, like, like,
1:03:30
like, like, like, like, like, like, like,
1:03:32
like, like, like, like, like, like, like,
1:03:34
God knows, 360 launch I think it
1:03:36
was in 06 and I went to
1:03:38
Epsom I think it was of all
1:03:41
places to one of the shops there.
1:03:43
Yeah, and went there at whatever time
1:03:45
in the morning, six o'clock in the
1:03:47
morning, opened up, bang, two big bags
1:03:49
on the desk. I must have had
1:03:51
hundred and something games for whatever it
1:03:54
was. trading me. And I got rid
1:03:56
of my original Xbox. I had the
1:03:58
wireless adapters for it. And all those
1:04:00
things are now like going up in
1:04:02
money as well because you can't find
1:04:05
them. And I'm like, yeah. Why did
1:04:07
I do it? But at the time,
1:04:09
I wanted the new, or did the
1:04:11
new console? I really wanted Game Cube
1:04:13
because it had Resident Evil Zero on
1:04:16
it and I actually had Resident Evil
1:04:18
remake. So I traded in like my
1:04:20
PS2 and like all my, those my
1:04:22
PS1 games and my PS2 games and
1:04:24
my PS2 games and it all just
1:04:26
kind of went for that. So for
1:04:29
us, it's not like a cartoon. It's
1:04:31
like an entire collection. I've got one.
1:04:33
I think I've mentioned before. I traded
1:04:35
eternal champions for the Bomber Man game
1:04:37
on the Mega Drive with Andrew Tamarsie.
1:04:40
It was a swap, but he never
1:04:42
swapped back. I've got annoyed at him.
1:04:44
And look, don't get me wrong. Let's
1:04:46
go and get him and get that
1:04:48
back. Andrew. But to be fair, you
1:04:50
know, it's a good game, Mega Man,
1:04:53
a Mega Man, and Mega Man. But
1:04:55
I miss, well, I've rebought it. I've
1:04:57
rebought his internal champions. It's internal champions.
1:04:59
It's internal champions. It's an eternal champions.
1:05:01
So you go eat that. Yeah. Yeah.
1:05:04
Andrew. Yeah. Sadly, we, certainly we haven't
1:05:06
bought all of our other collections. You
1:05:08
know, it's like, you know, we had
1:05:10
a Japanese Megadrive. You know, just gave
1:05:12
it away. Oh, it's so painful now.
1:05:15
I mean, it's funny because I'm like
1:05:17
starting to recollect bits and pieces, you
1:05:19
know, and get hold of certain titles
1:05:21
that I, you know, I got hold
1:05:23
of like the Medal of Honor series
1:05:25
from PS2 the other day, because I
1:05:28
was like, oh, I remember Medal of
1:05:30
Fantastic Series, I just like, I'd love
1:05:32
to have that back in the collection
1:05:34
again. you know but just so painful
1:05:36
thinking I had this 200 years two
1:05:39
games and I had you know 75
1:05:41
Xbox original games and and the Xbox
1:05:43
original game thankfully I said this story
1:05:45
before but I did a job for
1:05:47
a chap who used to be a
1:05:49
bit of you know game collector and
1:05:52
he gave me like 40 odd Xbox
1:05:54
original games yeah amazing yeah so thankfully
1:05:56
I've got some of the collection back
1:05:58
but I hope so hindsight, hindsight, you
1:06:00
know, at the time it's what we
1:06:03
did when we moved on to the
1:06:05
next thing and eBay corner you can
1:06:07
get a P. A P. A P.
1:06:09

1:06:29

1:06:31

1:06:33
one day we might delve a little
1:06:35
bit more deeper into the tunnels of
