A team glenes are here walking back to the building
0:12
in Humans Project podcast. I want
0:15
to talk a little bit this morning to kick off our week
0:17
about the importance of looking
0:19
after your body. And
0:21
I'm talking your physical health, but let's
0:23
tie that into our mental health as well, because
0:25
it's a definite correlation. I
0:28
know, years ago when I was up
0:30
in Townsville, I worked in a battalion
0:32
where I was responsible myself in a couple
0:34
of mates, for running the physical
0:36
training for one of the companies. The
0:38
four companies in a battalion, so we had
0:40
about one hundred to one hundred and fifty soldiers
0:43
that we were responsible for making sure
0:45
that they were physically fit enough
0:48
to do their job, physically
0:50
fit enough to go to war effectively.
0:53
And when we deployed, we noticed
0:55
definitely the people that were
0:58
physically in good shape. And
1:00
I'm not talking being an athlete here,
1:02
I'm just talking about people who turned up regularly
1:05
to physical training, who looked after themselves
1:07
more than they didn't. Because the army is a place where
1:10
people drink heavy, they party heavy, but they do
1:12
their job as well. But you still have a few
1:14
people that just don't quite toe
1:16
the line and spend a lot of time on what they
1:18
call chits, which is like a medical
1:20
exemption to get away with not doing
1:23
certain work or certain physical things.
1:25
Some of these are legit, but a lot of them are not. And
1:27
we notice a correlation between those who
1:29
were physically well and physically
1:32
healthy and their mental strength when it came to deployments,
1:35
because deployments are tough. You're away
1:37
from your family, you're away from
1:39
your lifestyle. You don't have the capacity
1:42
to just do all the things that you get to do in your
1:44
home. You're at war. And so of
1:46
course, even if you've never been to war, I'm sure you understand
1:49
the intensity of that and how hard
1:51
that can be. So working
1:54
in the physical field, and had to
1:56
mate Solca and to mat Willow, Kyle
1:58
Williams and Dave Tolson who helped run
2:01
these and we noticed the correlation when we
2:03
went outfield. And I was
2:05
listening recently to a guy talking about
2:07
the fact that when you are
2:10
well physically well, you have thousands of problems.
2:12
There's all the stuff going on in life, in business and
2:14
so on, And think about yourself right now,
2:16
all the challenges in your life, if you're in
2:18
business or if you're in a leadership role. What are all the
2:20
challenges that you have in your personal relationship
2:23
at home? There's all of these things.
2:25
But then he says, when you become unwell,
2:28
when you become sick, you only
2:30
have one problem, and that is to
2:32
get healthy. Because when you're sick, you
2:35
can't do anything else. And unfortunately,
2:37
for a lot of us, we're not motivated
2:40
or inspired enough to look after our physical
2:42
health until something
2:45
goes wrong. Because I promise you this, if
2:47
you end up in hospital or your health
2:49
is really poor, all of those other
2:51
problems go away. It's
2:53
actually a privilege to have all
2:55
of those other problems, and you lose
2:57
that privilege when you lose your physical
3:00
health and to some capacity,
3:02
your mental health as well. So this isn't
3:05
encouragement to you to start to
3:07
look after your body, to start to find
3:09
reasons to do the best that you can by yourself
3:11
on a daily basis, not becoming
3:14
an athlete, not becoming obsessed
3:16
into one two three hours a day of gym.
3:18
I know a lot of us don't have time for that. When
3:21
I don't train as much as I should, I
3:23
make sure that my diet is pretty on point. Now
3:26
I eat whatever I want, but I don't overeat
3:28
and that's what allows me to stay pretty
3:30
active. And I'm fairly active anyway. But
3:33
it's really really important to understand
3:35
that my physical health means a lot to me. And
3:38
if you don't have time to look after it now, you're
3:40
going to have to find time to be sick later. And
3:42
that, to me was a real inspiration to
3:44
even think about that, and I want
3:46
to share that with you today, and I hope
3:48
at some level this inspires you to
3:51
start to do the right thing by yourself, by
3:54
the people around you, by the
3:56
business or the leadership, you know, people that
3:58
look up to you for those roles. Look
4:00
after yourself and find ways to be in the physical
4:02
best shape that you can. Don't abuse your body
4:05
with alcohol, with food that's
4:07
not good for you. If you're not exercising as
4:09
well, you don't get to
4:12
look after yourself in one area
4:14
and not the others, or you don't get to look after
4:16
yourself in none of those areas and expect things to
4:18
go well. So here's a little place
4:21
for you to kick off. You're a wake.
4:25
As long as your body is healthy.
4:29
You have thousands of problems, but
4:32
in the moment, your body gets sick. You have
4:34
one problem. That's really
4:36
true.
4:37
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
4:38
That's why I mean, first of all,
4:41
before like tackling everything or
4:43
how to build up your life and how to whatever
4:45
do, make sure your body stays healthy.
4:47
If the body is not healthy, you don't need to go about
4:50
anything else. So respect,
4:54
take care and love your
4:56
body. Nourish your body,
4:58
and nourish yourself in such a
5:00
way that you understand it's
5:02
something right now, very very precious to
5:04
have. Okay, this is number
5:06
one.
