If you look at Luke 19, you've

0:02

got these guys that each get minas,

0:04

right? One guy multiplies his one mina

0:06

into ten minas. And you know what

0:09

the master says? You're going to have

0:11

authority over ten cities. Another guy multiplies

0:13

five times. You're going to have authority

0:16

over five cities. The other guy hit

0:18

his town, his mina, and he lost

0:20

everything. He was disqualified. Let's say Jesus

0:22

wants to make someone that's listening to

0:25

make you a ruler of... 12 cities.

0:27

What we do now will determine our

0:29

positions in the millennial reign of

0:32

Christ and eternal rewards. God

0:34

actually, he looks at our

0:36

works and how we live

0:38

here determines how we live there.

0:41

Hey everybody welcome to conversations. I'm John

0:43

Bevere joined by my beautiful wife Lisa

0:45

and we are just so excited to

0:48

be with you guys today man 2025s

0:50

rolling along Lisa And I believe it's

0:52

going to be a very fruitful year

0:54

for the body of Christ. I believe

0:56

that with all my heart now don't

0:58

get me wrong. It doesn't mean it's

1:00

not going to be filled with challenges

1:02

tribulations hardships, but I believe we're going

1:04

to be seeing a lot of fruit

1:06

by the people that are closely following

1:08

Jesus. I think Lisa there are more and

1:10

more and more things That I am experiencing that

1:12

used to be permissible for me that

1:14

are no longer permissible It's almost like

1:16

my walk is getting tighter and tighter

1:18

and it's been happening now for the

1:21

last Two years, but there's just things

1:23

I used to think oh there's nothing wrong

1:25

with that and now I'm like I don't

1:27

even want to watch it. It's not that

1:29

it's damaging. It's not that it's sinful. It's

1:31

just not profitable. Yeah, I mean I love that

1:33

it's you know I love one of my favorite

1:36

scriptures scriptures is the path of the righteous

1:38

is like the first gleam of Don,

1:40

stunning, ever brighter. And so as we

1:42

know better, we do better, as God

1:44

reveals himself to us individually, we walk

1:47

in that. And John, you and I

1:49

have been talking about this a lot,

1:51

and this conversations, which John and Lee

1:54

says, so we can do. Yeah, we're

1:56

bringing you into a conversation, we've been

1:58

having a lot. in our home.

2:00

And that is that God is

2:02

in the process of shaking things.

2:05

But when God begins to shake

2:07

things, that doesn't mean we talk

2:09

about everybody else. I love what?

2:11

Now Lisa, you shared a scripture.

2:13

The other day that just, I

2:15

was just going to dive into

2:17

it. This is where I've been

2:19

just meditating on because I was.

2:21

John I was being pushed by

2:23

so many people, people are like,

2:25

make a comment on this, make

2:27

a comment on that. Why aren't

2:29

you saying anything about this? Maybe

2:31

you should address that. And do

2:33

you know what? People have a

2:35

tendency to build a platform by

2:37

jumping and dog piling on something

2:39

that's already been exposed. So I'm

2:41

like, I don't need to add

2:43

my voice to something that's already

2:45

been exposed. I'm going to keep

2:47

actually pursuing God. But here's what

2:50

God gave me. It's First Timothy.

2:52

Chapter Four, verse 16. First Timothy,

2:54

chapter four, verse 16. It says,

2:56

keep a close watch on yourself.

2:58

Just right there. You know, listen,

3:00

I'm the mom of four boys,

3:02

and my oldest son is bent

3:04

towards justice. He became the third

3:06

parent in our house. He was

3:08

like, I've been keeping a close

3:10

watch on my brothers, and they're

3:12

not doing this enough, and they're

3:14

not doing that enough. But the

3:16

Bible doesn't say, keep a close

3:18

watch on yourself, and on the

3:20

teaching. Other versions say, and your

3:22

doctrine, right? Take heed to yourself

3:24

and to the doctrine. I love

3:26

this next statement. Continue in them.

3:28

Mine says persist in this. Guys,

3:30

it is so much easier to

3:32

look at other people than it

3:34

is to look at myself with

3:37

judging. With looking at my judging

3:39

myself is always going to be

3:41

a more difficult path than judging

3:43

other people is so much easier.

3:45

And it says for by doing

3:47

so. You will say both. yourself

3:49

and your hears. Wait a minute.

3:51

I thought we all just say

3:53

by by grace and Jesus. What

3:55

is he talking about here, John?

3:57

What is he even saying? Well,

3:59

can I? Is he saying from

4:01

a lot? I think he's saying...

4:03

Can I just go up from

4:05

a lot of trouble? Let me

4:07

just go up a little bit.

4:09

How far we going up? I'm

4:11

just going up a few verses.

4:13

Okay. He says, but reject profane.

4:15

Yeah. And old wives fables. Actually,

4:17

I'm going to go to the

4:19

NLT on this one. Okay. He

4:22

said, where? Like for a while,

4:24

bodily training. Well, no, that's where

4:26

I'm going. That's where I'm going.

4:28

Okay. You're getting ahead of me.

4:30

All right. Do not waste time

4:32

arguing over godless ideas of old

4:34

wives tales. Yeah. Now this is

4:36

where this is what was amazing

4:38

to me. Yeah. Train yourself to

4:40

be godly. Yeah mine says rather

4:42

train yourself for godliness now listen

4:44

to the next statement because we

4:46

pause one second train yourself for

4:48

godliness doesn't mean talk about everybody

4:50

else is ungodliness right is trained

4:52

yourself for godliness and then he

4:54

goes on and he's given it

4:56

he's given an example physical training

4:58

is good so going to the

5:00

gym is good all right last

5:02

month everybody's going to the gym

5:04

right now right I was a

5:07

lot of about 90% of them

5:09

fall off after a month yes

5:11

all right going to the gym

5:13

is good But training for Godliness

5:15

is much better. Yeah. Much better.

5:17

Yeah. Promising. So this is what

5:19

training for Godliness does. It promises

5:21

you benefits in this life and

5:23

in the life to come. Now,

5:25

there's one more thing that stands

5:27

out that I'm gonna go to

5:29

and my Bible is my phone

5:31

today guys. I'm sorry about that.

5:33

But I'm gonna go to first

5:35

Corinthians chapter 9. Paul said in...

5:37

First Corinthians 925 all athletes are

5:39

disciplining you're now are disciplined in

5:41

their training all right so I

5:43

remember when I was playing you

5:45

know USTA circuit tennis and Junior

5:47

Davis Cup. We were up at

5:49

seven in the morning. We were

5:51

down at the courts. There were

5:54

three friends of mine that we

5:56

were in it. Yeah, you're talking

5:58

about not when schools. You're talking

6:00

about summertime. Summertime at school we

6:02

left school at two o'clock because

6:04

we got out of two and

6:06

went straight to the indoor courts.

6:08

So I'm ours on the courts

6:10

a day. We're hitting down lines,

6:12

we're hitting drop shots, we're hitting

6:14

nets, volleys and and so we

6:16

were... training ourselves, right? So that

6:18

we're in the competition we perform

6:20

correctly. All athletes discipline are disciplined

6:22

in their training. So we never

6:24

missed. I mean, it would have

6:26

to be storming out for us

6:28

to miss. They do it to

6:30

win a prize that will fade

6:32

away. But we do it for

6:34

an eternal prize. So it has

6:36

the benefits of a life that

6:39

now is and is to come.

6:41

All right? So I run with

6:43

purpose in every step. So I'm

6:45

finding that every day. purpose is

6:47

more important to me. I am

6:49

not just shadow boxing, so I'm

6:51

not just beating in the air.

6:53

I discipline my body like an

6:55

athlete. Listen to what he's saying.

6:57

I discipline my body like an

6:59

athlete, training it to do whatever

7:01

it should. Otherwise, I fear that

7:03

after preaching to others, I myself

7:05

might be disqualified. This is the

7:07

Apostle Paul speaking here. Okay? He

7:09

should be like, hey, I've done

7:11

enough. In our mindset today, people

7:13

are like, oh, I did this

7:15

like five years ago, but but

7:17

he wrote this he wrote this

7:19

letter ten years before he died.

7:21

Well, and then I'm six years

7:24

I'm 65 years old. So not

7:26

much longer. Okay. No. No. Wait

7:28

a minute. Let's say I go

7:30

home to be with the Lord

7:32

90. Okay. I'm writing this when

7:34

I'm 80. Mm-hmm. Another words if

7:36

I'm the Apostle Paul. Right. So

7:38

he's saying I got it literally

7:40

discipline my body myself. So he

7:42

talks about in Timothy disciplining his

7:44

spirit, training his spirit, talks about

7:46

disciplining his body, yeah. And there's

7:48

a consequence. Yeah, I'm gonna be.

7:50

That's the Apostle Paul speaking. I'm

7:52

like, whoa, you know, I don't

7:54

want to be eternally disqualified. He

7:56

said, I can preach to all

7:58

these people, all these people can

8:00

get benefited, and one day I'm

8:02

disqualified. And I'm like, no. That's

8:04

why I believe you and I

8:06

are hearing this scripture, because when

8:09

you said it to me, it

8:11

leapt in me. Yeah. No, it's,

8:13

it's, to yourselves, and to the

8:15

doctrine you teach. Yeah, and it's

8:17

been constantly in my mind. and

8:19

every sin so that you can

8:21

run. There's a big, big statement

8:23

in there. Yes, go ahead. Lay

8:25

aside every weight and the sin

8:27

that is so easily beset us.

8:29

So easily beset us. Now notice

8:31

it doesn't say what sin that

8:33

is. That's because the sin that

8:35

so easily besets is different for

8:37

everybody. Yeah, and I want to

8:39

say to everybody out there when

8:41

we're talking about disqualified. We're not

8:43

talking about salvation. We're talking about,

8:45

there is a prize that God

8:47

has for you and you don't,

8:49

like when you, when you lose

8:51

a swimming meat, like when I,

8:53

I think I've talked about this

8:56

already, but it's embarrassing, but true,

8:58

I was swimming and I just

9:00

didn't like the four lengths. I

9:02

like the two lengths and when

9:04

they changed from the 50 yard

9:06

freestyle and the 50 yard butterfly,

9:08

I remember going to the 100

9:10

yards, I hit the wall, looked

9:12

side to side, didn't see anybody,

9:14

I had a leg cramp, and

9:16

I thought you know what, I'm

9:18

in last place, I'm having a

9:20

leg ramp, I'm getting out. And

9:22

I started to climb out of

9:24

the pool and every start screaming,

9:26

because I was actually in first.

9:28

And I climbed out and I

9:30

was disqualified. What does that mean?

9:32

That means I did not place.

9:34

And I lost a race. You

9:36

were in first place, but you

9:38

didn't place. I did not place

9:41

at all. When you're disqualified, you

9:43

lose a position that places you

9:45

somewhere. So I want to say,

9:47

oh, go ahead. So when he's

9:49

saying, persist in this, for by

9:51

doing so both yourself, you'll say

9:53

both yourself and your hearers. He

9:55

got his saying, I don't, like

9:57

Paul saying, hey, Timothy, I don't

9:59

want. your people to lose their

10:01

reward. And you've talked about this

10:03

so much, John, about live in

10:05

such a way, John talks about

10:07

live in such a way that

10:09

you receive a full reward. He's

10:11

saying, I'm gonna save you from

10:13

a lot of trouble, I'm going

10:15

to save you from a lot

10:17

of grief, you look. closely to

10:19

yourself. You know, I feel like

10:21

there's a gossiping, slandering spirit being

10:23

released in the body of Christ

10:26

where everybody wants to know what's

10:28

going on, but it creates this.

10:30

atmosphere of fear and judgment

10:32

and frustration but there is

10:34

nothing more frustrating than feeling

10:36

responsible for something I have

10:38

no authority over. So let's talk

10:40

about it you got disqualified you

10:42

couldn't you didn't get you didn't

10:44

get the ribbon I'm sure it

10:46

was probably a ribbon for for that

10:49

right? Yeah my team might and even more

10:51

than my team didn't get the ribbon and

10:53

that's what we need to think about

10:55

this is not just about me it's

10:57

about the team it's about my team.

click support this podcast in the

11:32

show's description now let's get back

11:34

to the program so you know

11:36

what's interesting I look at Luke's

11:38

Gospel the 19 chapter so many

11:40

people have this vision of well

11:43

eternity's gonna be kind of like

11:45

this non-stop worship service are you

11:47

kidding heaven created what we're living

11:49

in here don't you think heaven's

11:51

gonna be a lot more active

11:53

Busy things to do than here

11:56

absolutely a place of wonder so

11:58

if you look at Luke 19.

12:00

You've got these guys, they each get

12:02

minas, right? One guy multiplies is one

12:05

minor into ten minas. And you know

12:07

what the master says? You're going to

12:09

have authority over ten cities. I don't

12:11

think it's an accident. Jesus is talking

12:14

about this. He talks about authority over

12:16

ten cities. Another guy multiplies five times.

12:18

You're going to have authority over five

12:20

cities. The other guy hit his talent,

12:22

his mina, and he lost everything. He

12:25

was disqualified. He was disqualified. And what

12:27

he had was given to somebody else

12:29

that had qualified themselves. Let's say Jesus

12:31

wants to make someone that's listening to

12:34

us. He wants to make you a

12:36

ruler of 12 cities. In the millennium,

12:38

because you've got to realize, in the

12:40

millennium, Jesus is going to rule from

12:43

Jerusalem with his glorified saints. And I

12:45

believe we're going to be given assignments.

12:47

I had eight pastors tell me because

12:49

I was so blown away that this

12:52

church had grown to over 300,000 people

12:54

in 16 years. And I said, What

12:56

did you guys do? They said we

12:58

talk about the second coming of Jesus,

13:01

we talk about the millennial reign of

13:03

Christ and how what we do now

13:05

will determine our positions in the millennial

13:07

reign of Christ and eternal rewards. And

13:10

they said those are the things that

13:12

we talked to our people about. So

13:14

in other words, we rarely hear those

13:16

things talked about in church. In their

13:18

words, they were saying we tell our

13:21

people you're building your resume for the

13:23

millennium right now. Okay, so a thousand

13:25

years, you're building your resume, what you're

13:27

going to be doing. right now and

13:30

I thought and if you have an

13:32

interesting concept and if you have problems

13:34

with resume let's just go with God

13:36

actually he he looks at our works

13:39

it says he looks at our works

13:41

and how we live here determines how

13:43

we live there and heaven's gonna be

13:45

an amazing place but when we are

13:48

proven faithful with little God can trust

13:50

us with much and so what we

13:52

we want you to know the cross

13:54

determines where You spend a journey, but

13:57

our choices now. determine how. And so

13:59

this is not a scary thing. Jesus

14:01

was like, I'm going to tell you

14:03

how I'm going to tell you how

14:06

I measure things. It's not going to

14:08

be a surprise. My word, my word,

14:10

so we have to be a people

14:12

who read scripture. You've got to read

14:14

scripture. You can't just listen to what

14:17

other people say. We would rather you

14:19

read scripture than even just listen to

14:21

us on any level. I hope that

14:23

when you listen to us. You maybe

14:26

even get mad, and we're like, I

14:28

don't know if I believe that, and

14:30

you open up your Bible and read

14:32

scripture, because we want you to keep

14:35

a close watch on yourself. And what

14:37

you teach. Yeah. And I think about

14:39

it, Lisa, you know, view the judgment

14:41

seat of Christ for the believer as

14:44

a big award ceremony. And... I used

14:46

to watch people get awards in award

14:48

ceremonies in high school. At graduation, there

14:50

was an award ceremony the night before,

14:53

and this was for all the guys

14:55

that lettered in tennis, all the guys

14:57

that lettered in basketball, in football, all

14:59

the people that lettered in academics and

15:01

this, and the ones that stood out,

15:04

the sumukulatas, the magna cumulatas, all that

15:06

was happening, right? It was pretty sad

15:08

affair when my name wasn't called for

15:10

one of them. So you wait, you

15:13

never got an award? Well, because I

15:15

played tennis, I lettered, so I was.

15:17

But what I'm saying is, I can't,

15:19

you know, there were times that I

15:22

really wanted to get an academic reward,

15:24

but I didn't get it because I

15:26

didn't work hard enough. Wait a minute.

15:28

Did you get National Honor Society? I

15:31

don't think I did. I didn't. Yeah.

15:33

So, you know, when the award ceremony

15:35

comes up, you're kind of thankful that

15:37

you were diligent to be, you know,

15:40

you know, training for godliness for godliness.

15:42

before that award ceremony. You're like an

15:44

athlete. I want to stand on that

15:46

podium. Now, you're not competing against others.

15:49

If you start competing against others, probably

15:51

you're not going to stand on that

15:53

podium because God has no tolerance for

15:55

when we compete. with one another. He

15:57

absolutely hates that. I mean Paul just

16:00

ripped into the Corinthians and says, you

16:02

are so unwise to compare yourselves with

16:04

yourselves and I'm thinking social media, what

16:06

does it do? It causes us to

16:09

compare myself with other people. They're showing

16:11

all their highlight reels, all their best

16:13

moments, some of them exaggerated and I'm

16:15

thinking I'm falling way behind. No, you're

16:18

not. You have an assignment and your

16:20

assignment is... different than everybody else and

16:22

you will be judged according to your

16:24

assignment not somebody else's assignment so if

16:27

you're comparing yourself with them you might

16:29

end up now forcing yourself to do

16:31

something you're not even assigned to do

16:33

and I think or equipped by the

16:36

spirit of God to do you want

16:38

to be obedient to scripture and the

16:40

holy spirits and I think the thing

16:42

that I remember the most about this

16:45

is our friend Mike And you'll know

16:47

exactly who I'm talking about. Mike and

16:49

I, I was an engineer for Rockwell,

16:51

he was an accountant, and then later

16:53

on we left for ministry. He started

16:56

his own accounting firm, and he very

16:58

rapidly grew, and eventually he was over

17:00

10,000 clients. And I remember I called

17:02

him one day, and I said, Mike,

17:05

how many people have you led to

17:07

Lord in the last year? And he

17:09

just said, John, hundreds. I said, wow.

17:11

And he started telling me about the

17:14

most important man in his life. And

17:16

I said, who is that? And he

17:18

said, John, let me explain it to

17:20

you like this. He said, my mother's

17:23

dad was shot and killed. My mother's,

17:25

my father's dad was shot and killed.

17:27

He said, I have six siblings. All

17:29

of them ended up in mental health

17:32

institutions. He said, and drug addicts. He

17:34

said, my mom ended up in a

17:36

mental institution. He said, John, that's where

17:38

I was headed. He said, but there

17:41

was a janitor of a paper mill

17:43

named Charlie. And he took me into

17:45

his home. My mom couldn't afford me.

17:47

She was so broke. The family was

17:49

so broke. She asked if he could

17:52

take care of him raise me. He

17:54

took me in. I think he was

17:56

like six or seven years old. caught

17:58

him about Jesus, poured into his life,

18:01

and he said, John, where would I

18:03

have been today had it not been

18:05

for that janitor named Charlie? Now, Charlie

18:07

wasn't called to have a big massive

18:10

church, but what he did is a

18:12

disciple demand that it has literally led

18:14

hundreds of people to the Lord and

18:16

prayed and seen people healed. Wow. What

18:18

if he was comparing himself with

18:20

other people on Instagram? He

18:22

couldn't have done it because I was back

18:25

in the 60s. But that's why comparing

18:27

ourselves with himself with himself.

18:29

Who you're competing against

18:32

is yourself? Right, it says there's

18:34

one thing to be found and that

18:36

is what? To be found in Christ?

18:38

To be found faithful. Faithful.

18:40

Faithful, yes. Faithful, because we

18:42

want to be faithful to

18:44

what God calls us to do and

18:46

be. So again, I feel like in

18:48

this year, you have an invitation.

18:51

You can use your words to

18:53

slander and judge others, or you

18:55

can use the word of God to

18:57

judge yourself. You can speak. the promises

18:59

of God or you can curse

19:01

people. You can put a close

19:03

watch on yourself or you

19:06

can watch everybody else from

19:08

a distance. You can be

19:10

responsible to change your behavior

19:12

or you can be frustrated

19:14

because you want to change

19:16

the behavior of others. You

19:19

can so suspicious or you

19:21

can believe for something better.

19:23

You know, John, I believe that God

19:25

is shaking. so that he can

19:27

stabilize and God is shaking so

19:30

that that which cannot be shaken

19:32

will remain and this is a

19:34

God process it is painful I

19:36

mean we're coming before a holy

19:38

God and you know when God

19:40

starts shaking you're in

19:42

an uncomfortable place so

19:45

now what you do to

19:47

alleviate your uncomfortableness is you

19:49

compare yourself with others Or

19:51

you start criticizing others. You

19:54

start blaming other people. You

19:56

become bitter against people. And

19:58

that causes you. to lose

20:00

sight of what God's trying to do in

20:02

you. I remember one day God said to

20:05

me, he said, you can blame your wife,

20:07

blame your pastor, blame your friends, he said,

20:09

or you can realize there is impurities in

20:11

your life right now that I'm trying to

20:14

expose and I'm trying to expose and get

20:16

you free from. But until you own those

20:18

things, until you confess those things, you made

20:21

a statement back in those days that I've

20:23

never forgotten. I don't know if you want

20:25

me to say it or if you justify

20:27

you justify you buy. So he was basically

20:30

saying to me, you justify that? By blaming

20:32

everybody else and justify your own behavior, we're

20:34

going to have to start this process all

20:37

over again. And I remember Israel just went

20:39

round and round and round and round and

20:41

round and round and I thought, I don't

20:43

want to do that. So I was very,

20:46

very quick to say, okay, God, I'm missing

20:48

it here. I'm so sorry. Boy, repentance is

20:50

a gift. Yeah. You know, so I just

20:52

want to say, if you're in a place

20:55

and you're like, I've gotten so caught up

20:57

in the failings of others or the fear

20:59

that I'm listening to a false teacher or

21:02

I only let this person interpret things for

21:04

me because I only trust this person. I'm

21:06

just going to tell you that you can

21:08

go to the word of God and you

21:11

can be in a community of faith, but

21:13

you need to actually keep a close watch

21:15

on yourself. So good Lisa. Not on everybody

21:18

else. Guys, you will be distracted from what

21:20

God wants to do inside of you if

21:22

you're looking out there at them. So the

21:24

word of this podcast is take heed to

21:27

yourself. Yourself. Yourself. Yourself. Yeah, yourself. And so

21:29

anyway, I just want to encourage every single

21:31

one of you. Please, please, please. Stay in

21:34

the word of God because the word of

21:36

God is going to keep your thinking right.

21:38

And the Bible says that we are transformed

21:40

by the renewing of our mind. Listen to

21:43

that. We're changed by the renewing of our

21:45

mind with the word of God. So I

21:47

want to encourage you. If you feel the

21:50

temptation to compare, to criticize, to start, start

21:52

getting in the word and say, Lord, please

21:54

expose in me. What would cause me to

21:56

want to be critical? Lisa, I'm going to

21:59

be honest with you. I remember the season

22:01

when I was critical, and I don't like

22:03

the jambavir of that season. Yeah, I don't

22:06

like the least one here from that season.

22:08

Because I was miserable. I don't ever want

22:10

to go back there. And the only way

22:12

I could make myself unmiserable is by focusing

22:15

on the faults of others. Yeah. And I

22:17

realize one day, I realize, oh my gosh.

22:19

I am in a really bad place. This

22:22

was years ago. Can you pray for people

22:24

to make that exchange, John? Absolutely. You know,

22:26

just right now together as we close out

22:28

this podcast. I just want you to say

22:31

this, dear Heavenly Father, I come before you're

22:33

thrown in the name of Jesus. Forgive me

22:35

for developing a judgmental and critical eye. I

22:38

have focused more on the spec in my

22:40

brother's eye than I have focused on the

22:42

log in my own eye, that log being

22:44

criticalness and judgmentalness and judgmentalness. I repent of

22:47

this right now, and I'm asking, Lord, whatever

22:49

needs to change in me, start showing me,

22:51

revealing it to me. And I promise you,

22:54

dear Father, in Jesus' name, I will repent

22:56

and I will cooperate with your grace to

22:58

make the change so I can become more

23:00

Christ-like and love people more perfectly. I ask

23:03

this in Jesus mighty name, Amen. I mean

23:05

that was such a powerful prayer, you know

23:07

what, we hope you have enjoyed this conversation.
