Dr. Anthea D. Butler is a historian of African American and American religion. She is a Professor of Religion and the Chair of the University of Pennsylvania Department of Religious Studies.Butler has appeared on CNN, BBC, and MSNBC, and her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other outlets. Her first book, "Women in the Church of God in Christ: Making A Sanctified World," was published in 2007.Butler received a B.A. from the University of Houston–Clear Lake, an M.A. in Theology from the Fuller Theological Seminary in California, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion from Vanderbilt University.
