The. Hello, welcome to Geek Foods.
0:06
I am Frank and I'm here with gentlemen, and we are recording in person.
0:10
Let's go ahead and start things off, guys.
0:12
We have the Geek Freak's pet pantry going on for the next two months.
0:15
We're raising money for the Elk Grove Animal shelter,
0:18
and we're also supporting a local business that we absolutely love.
0:21
Beauty's biscuits, where you could use Code geek freaks for 20% off.
0:24
They do, these homemade. You can watch sunny,
0:28
amazing, sunny, book a lady's podcast, make these biscuits herself.
0:31
They go to fairs and stuff like that and hand them out over there.
0:34
I'm a frequent customer. I actually have another order on his way right now.
0:39
But check that out. Beauty's biscuits. And as for the Geek Freak's pet pantry, there's a link in the description
0:43
to go to the Go Fund Me that will raise money directly for the Elk Grove Animal Shelter.
0:47
I'm going to be pushing that for the next two months.
0:50
Let's talk about some of our pets. Jonathan, you talk about Elsa, your dog?
0:53
Yeah. So I had a dog named Elsa. She's an Alaskan malamute. All white.
0:58
They typically have, like, she has blue eyes, but with a brown spot and one on,
1:03
So we found her. We adopted her,
1:06
off of the streets. Yeah.
1:09
Kind of wandering around. My father, has an auto shop, you know, in a busy city,
1:14
and he would just feed whatever stray dogs came around. One time we were over there visiting him, and the stray dog comes up.
1:19
She looks beautiful. It's very young, so it's still a. Yeah.
1:22
She was, like, only 6 or 7 months old, right when you guys got.
1:24
Her and she had a lollipop stuck to her.
1:27
Yeah, yeah, just sad but funny.
1:29
Yeah, yeah. So then we talked about like.
1:32
Yeah, I mean, we should take that one home and sure enough, before we left, so.
1:35
Yeah, I, you know, I'll take that. So, that was it.
1:38
And, you know, we we took her in the gutter shots and all that stuff.
1:41
Clean her up. She's been through different seasons, and she's lived in our house at one point.
1:47
And then when we moved, she had a, you know, a little, outside and inside.
1:51
But now with a lot of country, we get lots of space. So, yeah, she mostly, you know, roams outside.
1:55
But we have, you know, any time it's bad weather. But she comes in and stays with us or,
1:59
but she loves it. She's all over the neighborhood.
2:02
Yeah, sometimes. Problem.
2:04
But, she's just such a well-behaved.
2:06
Extreme. Well-behaved. Yeah. Nicest thing.
2:09
I don't want to get into a big story, but she pretty much doesn't bark.
2:11
Except for one time. I remember we had a possum in the backyard. Yeah.
2:14
And I was like, why is she barking? She doesn't bark. Sure enough, yeah, there's a threat. There's a. Yeah.
2:18
So we had to go take care of that. But just, you know, so many dogs just you can't stop them from barking.
2:23
He's. Yeah, she's very calm and patient. Quiet.
2:25
So I could kind of master better.
2:28
I'm, Well, one thing I love about her is every time you see her,
2:30
she puts her her head, like, in your lap or in your arm or whatever.
2:34
Like, she really wants to kind of cuddle in with you, but I remember when, you know, because I was one of them
2:37
that was trying to potty train her in the early days.
2:39
And there's and we we would try to create trainer
2:42
and she was in your room and she got out. Remember that? And she just destroyed the place.
2:46
And of course, me. Being the country, I was like, I got to film this.
2:49
I just recorded the. Room like, hey John, check this out to me.
2:52
When we were trying to create training and she moved the crate off of.
2:56
Yeah, dug a hole into the carpet. Yeah.
3:00
Yeah, she definitely got through those terrible twos.
3:03
That was a she. Especially now that she's older. She's slowed down.
3:06
Oh, yeah. Yeah. She's always been friendly.
3:09
Just, if she wasn't so big, she'd be a good lap dog.
3:12
She really would be. Yeah. She drops about, you know, 3 pounds of hair a day.
3:15
But yeah, I did. For at least 50, 55 pounds herself.
3:19
Yeah, yeah. So she's a great dog.
3:22
So guys, let us know about your pets. You'd love to hear about it online on all of our social media channels.
3:26
We'll be sharing different pet stories throughout the next couple of weeks
3:28
and again, support the, Elk Grove Animal Shelter with us.
3:32
Link in the description.
3:37
All right, so this week in the news, we had the Brazil, D23.
3:41
They're trying to do, there's a big convention down in Brazil.
3:43
It's kind of becoming this big thing in Rio de Janeiro specifically.
3:47
We've got all kinds of cool new stuff. First off, we have that brand new Thunderbolts trailer that shows a lot
3:52
more of the character dynamics in between each of these, different characters.
3:56
What were your thoughts on this? Looks really good. It looks polished, and it, it's a good mix between
4:01
the action kind of spy thriller.
4:05
Genre. Yeah. And a little bit of the sci fi.
4:07
I really is watching it. That's probably why I haven't seen, like, Black Widow and some of the,
4:13
Captain America stuff is it's all very, you know, guns and bombs and spy stuff.
4:18
Yeah. It doesn't have the sci fi element that you see a bunch of other stuff.
4:22
And that's what I realized. I like in all the what we watch is more of the sci fi side of things.
4:28
So I think that's why there's a lot of, you know, marvel
4:30
that I just kind of haven't seen or stay detached from.
4:34
So I think this does a pretty good job. It looks like it does a pretty good job of kind of bridging the. Yeah.
4:38
And it just looks really. Really cool.
4:40
Yeah. Because because with this one, we're definitely gonna be getting sentry,
4:43
who is a Superman level hero with a split personality complex.
4:48
It's like the most, you know, broad strokes version of him.
4:50
And he's going to be the bad guy, quote unquote.
4:52
And so we're going to be seeing those ground level heroes
4:56
fight the one of the hardest things
4:58
they could ever fight, which is basically Superman gone mad.
5:01
That's going to be cool, but also just the dynamics between these different players.
5:04
One of the things that I got this time I didn't catch last time is the fact that it looks like Red Guardian,
5:08
who is this old Soviet version of, you know, Captain America, who's aged out
5:13
and he's, you know, the pseudo dad for Black Widow.
5:17
He's like, oh, this Winter soldier, he's excited to see what a soldier.
5:20
And I was like. A little bit over it. Right? I didn't think about like, oh yeah, when a soldier was off
5:23
and on ice throughout the last 100 years. So he knew him as a badass, you know, SAS.
5:28
And back in the day, it probably was a nemesis. And ally had some fight like they had their own things back then.
5:32
And I can't wait for that dialog between the two. Like what happened to you?
5:35
Get a Winter soldier. You can imagine, like he might have the baseball card, you know. Yes.
5:41
Oh my God, do they hope they do that? Yeah.
5:43
Some like really crappy Soviet baseball card, like,
5:49
yeah, yeah, yeah, it would be wonderful.
5:52
Oh, man. So yeah, it does look like it's going to be a fun, fun story.
5:56
Fun romp. And I think it's going to establish that with this next one.
5:59
When we talk about Captain America, it's going to establish
6:02
the difference between the government and the superheroes,
6:04
which I think in the MCU so far has been shaky.
6:08
Like we see Secret Invasion. They kind of were a little bit mixed up.
6:11
Civil War was definitely mixed up. But in the comic books, there's a little bit
6:14
more of a clear divide where like shield and sword,
6:17
like they all have their clear divides. So I think we're going to start getting that to where
6:20
you're going to see the Avengers need to be assembled outside of the US government
6:24
so that they can kind of hold their own morality.
6:26
That's something we seen from the very beginning of X-Men.
6:30
Very our own thing. The government doesn't even know we exist, right?
6:33
Cases and stuff like that. So that'll be I think that's smart. I think that'll be.
6:37
We are seeing the growing pains through Civil War and stuff like that.
6:39
Yeah. We did plan this out very well.
6:41
And now, you know we have to establish that. But
6:44
one of the things it's not on our note here, Kevin Feige
6:46
mentioned that the X-Men are coming into the MCU after Secret War,
6:50
which is going to be basically collapsing all the multiverses into one.
6:54
One universe. And that's when the X-Men will become a big player.
6:57
I think that's important because we need to establish,
7:00
you know, this is Captain America. This is, you know, Iron Man is the Avengers
7:03
because there are a lot of times, unfortunately, where like Captain America,
7:07
who is definitely not, like tied to the American government,
7:11
but is kind of a pseudo American government representative, obviously,
7:14
is is used to show how the X-Men are on the outs.
7:18
He's worked with them, you know, on money many times.
7:20
But also these people mistreat the X-Men, too.
7:23
So I they think they need to show that, like, our heroes can be wrong
7:26
and it's still like, you know, does that make sense? Yeah. They could try to stand for the government.
7:30
And you taking a stance to, you know, support what they think is supporting the people. Yeah.
7:34
But in the end it's, you know, turning his back on a different group of people.
7:38
Yeah. So it'll be interesting to see how they move forward with that.
7:42
I think. I think we've got two movies are here that are really setting up.
7:44
These are grounded heroes. Very well. Captain America, Brave New World.
7:47
We got a new trailer for that that shows a lot more of the combat.
7:51
What did you think of this one? Yeah, that one.
7:53
I see less of a sci fi. Yeah, just kind of an action movie.
7:56
So it's definitely let's. Let's let's humor as well.
8:00
Yeah. Then Thunderbolts. Let's. I'm sure there's
8:02
a whole large group of people that love movies like Mission Impossible.
8:06
Well, you're looking at one. Yeah. This is like, right up their alley.
8:08
So I'm sure there's going to be. Yeah. And Disney, everything, pretty much everything Disney makes is is good.
8:14
Yeah. So I don't think it's going to be hard for them to,
8:17
to turn a good profit at this one. But yeah, it might not be for me.
8:21
Like I didn't see the Black Widow movie.
8:23
Yeah. So if I go to watch these, I'm going to have to do a lot of catch up as well.
8:27
You do need to watch that. You need to watch the, Captain America series.
8:31
There was, well, spoiler.
8:33
It's called Falcon and the Winter soldier, but at the end, it becomes Captain America in the Winter soldier or Bucky or maybe even so.
8:39
You do want to watch that? That's a really good show. That kind of is a lot of this underground spy thriller stuff.
8:45
Totally worth a watch. You could skip Secret Invasion, that's for sure.
8:49
I did watch the first few episodes, and, like. Like. Yeah.
8:52
Did you finish Agatha Holt? Yeah. That was.
8:54
I love that show. But. Yeah. So I think this is going to be a much needed refresh for the MCU.
9:00
And I think that this version of Captain America, the Sam Wilson combat
9:03
we're seeing is showing the homage to the original Captain America,
9:06
while also showing Sam's special, additions to the.
9:09
Because I think a lot of people online get a little antsy saying,
9:12
oh, he's not our Steve Rogers. Like, no, he's definitely not.
9:15
And even in the trailer, they point that out.
9:17
Do you know what he means when he says it? Like, yeah, I'm not Steve Rogers, right?
9:21
What would you say are the big differences between.
9:24
I have a feeling at that point knowing kind of how he developed his character
9:28
in the series as well. He's probably trying to be Steve Rogers as much as possible
9:32
and then at a turning point realizes like, no, I've got wings.
9:36
I'm a little bit more hardcore. You know, I could step it like there is a point in the comic books
9:41
when when a soldier is Captain America and he uses a gun,
9:45
and so it's like the shield and gun in one hand. It's classic comic book cover.
9:48
And it's like, yeah, you don't you could still be Captain America and not Steve Rogers.
9:52
I think that's the moment he realizes that. I think Steve Monroe I can't
9:57
stakes very strong and hard to a moral code and a moral compass.
10:02
Yeah. And I think sometimes he's probably saying, you gotta break that every once in a while.
10:07
Like, you know, running with a shield and a gun,
10:09
you're not just knocking people out and pushing them to the side, or they get,
10:12
yeah, they're going to get rescued by somebody. You're shooting them dead as you're fighting.
10:15
Yeah, it's kind of that's hard. But these guys are trying to kill, you know, a
10:19
larger group or something like that. Well, and we're seeing like where he's knocking those missiles out of the sky.
10:23
That's over. I think his name is Ty. Matt. It's the, from Eternals, the big metal guy that comes metal.
10:29
And they had mentioned that that's how they're going to introduce Adam.
10:34
I Adam, I adamantium into the MCU.
10:37
So that's why all the governments want this stuff. Because, like, hey, it's a vibranium.
10:40
Vibranium alternative. You and the American government.
10:42
Let's get in on that. So there's going to be something, I think, where Steve Rogers is
10:46
or I'm sorry, Gretchen, Sam Wilson's gonna be like,
10:48
that's not right for us to do this like that or whatever or whatever it is,
10:52
and have to turn on the military, which I think that's something
10:55
that Steve Rogers might 100% not. Do, because yet Steve Rogers was, from the beginning, this Americana guy,
11:01
right, representative of, you know, American values.
11:04
And, Sam Wilson might be saying like, well,
11:08
I represent people in freedom and, yeah, like the American government.
11:13
The American people. Yeah. Or even that.
11:16
And like, not to bash Steve Rogers in any way.
11:18
I mean, literally in the MCU, the Civil War,
11:20
he turned against the American government during that, too, because they wanted to register everybody.
11:24
But I think we're gonna get a more defined line for that with Sam Wilson,
11:28
let alone the fact that he just looks like the way he lands
11:30
it has that sonic boom come behind him. Just freaking cool looking. Yeah, this is going to be really awesome.
11:35
Then he has a helmet that we haven't seen before, so. And he's going to have a Falcon on 062.
11:38
So we're gonna have two falcon, you know wings flying around.
11:41
It's going to be dope. We have some concept art for avatar Fire and Ash.
11:45
And I had to clarify to you, that's the Blue people.
11:48
I was like, oh, I was excited to, like, wait, this in a video game?
11:51
Something like that from avatar the last. Yeah.
11:53
You know, again. And I was like, What do you think about, have you seen the.
11:59
I don't think you've watched have you watched avatar two?
12:02
Oh, yeah. Oh you did. Yeah. How did you like it?
12:04
And, Oh okay.
12:06
Was I skipped out on that one. I thought it was pretty good.
12:10
I think it is. Yeah, yeah. And knowing it, maybe I wouldn't go to the theaters again.
12:15
Yeah. See you at home. The whole world.
12:17
It's beautiful, but it's not really a story I needed to see.
12:22
That was pretty much. Yeah. I think they're longer than they need to be. Those movies.
12:25
I do like them a lot, but they.
12:27
That one I watched at home and I watched in two parts,
12:29
and I think that's how it should be enjoyed, you know.
12:31
Yeah. And some of the story just didn't really make sense to me.
12:35
Like, I don't know the writing. And I'm sure these were probably written a long time ago, I don't know.
12:40
Oh no, these are brand new. No, no, this isn't a book series.
12:42
This is all just James Cameron doing some stuff.
12:45
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it just seemed like a kind of a shallow plot.
12:49
It looks great. I know they put a lot of money in the CGI and stuff like that.
12:53
So yeah, they're focused on.
12:55
Well this one we're going to have two new tribes joining the fight.
12:58
So we have the Air Tribe which they have these big flying balloon type things.
13:03
We saw the concept art for that. I think they might be living creatures even,
13:07
because they have the tentacles going down to the ground,
13:09
which I'm like, okay, I think that's, you know, how they feel things.
13:12
And then we have the fire tribe, which are apparently bad navy,
13:15
so I presume they're gonna be working with the humans to take over the planet,
13:19
and they probably made some deal with the humans, and they believed it.
13:22
And the humans are going to just take over everything.
13:24
Yeah. This should be good.
13:27
I know squeaks is going to be crazy for this, and we're going to definitely have him go out there for the reveal.
13:31
Try to get him early tickets. For me, it's it's just. Okay.
13:34
It's interesting, but. Early on, the first one and I don't remember how much it was,
13:38
but I know it was like record breaking costs.
13:40
Yeah. It's huge. Expensive. Do you think they're going to be stepping down
13:43
how much they invest in these sequels? Because sequels don't usually have the same return.
13:47
No, no, because, actually Disney has said
13:51
this is one of their new tentpole IPS.
13:53
So much like Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar,
13:56
they consider it on par with those two, which is a very high bar.
14:01
If this is successful and what they're hoping for, making this such a magical,
14:05
you know, franchise that that people embraced through the multiple iterations.
14:09
Yeah, I can totally see them making a segment in one of their parks.
14:13
They already have it, just not in our park.
14:15
Their park in Disney World. There's already a segment for this.
14:18
I know. I know, right where the OG.
14:21
Park, what the heck? So yeah, hopefully we do get a ride for because there is like
14:24
they have the Animal Kingdom stuff, that's all. Like you're walking around on, Pandora.
14:29
So hopefully we do get a little bit of that over here. That'd be nice.
14:32
Ice age six has been announced. Now, here's the trick with this, guys.
14:35
Ice age has always been made by Fox and made by blue Sky Studios.
14:39
This is the first time it's going to be made by Disney because they bought Fox.
14:42
So, Ice Age I think is just generally been
14:45
solid flicks there, like just a little Kung Fu Panda for me.
14:48
Like I'll watch them, but not crazy for it.
14:52
Yeah, you probably won't see the theaters.
14:54
Maybe if you get nothing. But if nothing else, you watch it. Yeah.
14:57
Sometimes I'm in the mood to just like, I'll put it on cartoon I haven't seen before.
14:59
I still gotta watch all the inside out so I know there's a.
15:02
Both them are very good, but like soul was really good.
15:05
Stuff like that. So, I'm hoping Disney can step up the game on Ice Age and make it even better as a dad,
15:11
do you think Marco would be excited for something like this?
15:13
I think so right now especially. He likes the animals especially. He's focused on sea creatures.
15:17
He has a big hang up on space now. He's yeah, moving on. How do you keep up?
15:21
So yeah, I think
15:24
if we show him this movie at the, easy with.
15:28
That, does he go? How how long does the phase like?
15:30
Because you got to buy toys and stuff like that to match, or you just avoid it?
15:33
Hey, stuff that he gets excited.
15:36
It's like because he watched a new YouTube clip that.
15:38
Oh, boy, it or whatever.
15:40
So, I mean, for his back toys, he's got a bunch of sea creatures
15:43
because that's just makes sense. Yeah.
15:45
In his room, we have, you know, stars and planets and stuff like that.
15:48
So we just keep getting a look. If we're gonna buy him something,
15:51
we'll just buy whatever matches his current interest. Yeah, we know what's going to pass.
15:55
What about, have you ever been introduced into one of your fandoms,
15:58
like Avatar The Last Airbender? I had him watch it, but it has a grasp.
16:02
Okay? He's not hung up on it, but once he does, I mean, I'm going to quickly
16:06
get him an arrow tattoo. There we. Go. There we go.
16:15
Andor season two, we have a release date now. It's going to be April 22nd.
16:19
I think Andor might be might be the best thing that Star Wars is doing.
16:22
Yeah, I can't wait for it. And like we talked before, like, I like the sci fi.
16:26
Not so much the spy drama and stuff. Yeah.
16:28
Yeah, absolutely. It has plenty of the I mean, it's all in space and all these different planets.
16:32
It's all like it has all the, the sci fi, elements, but it has this deep
16:37
and really rich dramatic like spy thriller.
16:41
Yeah, I love it. I love that story.
16:43
I really like this actor, Diego, who plays, and or himself.
16:47
I hope he gets some more roles, because, man, he's so good in this.
16:50
Of course he played in terminal. We we're both big fans. Yeah.
16:53
But hopefully he gets some more stuff after Andor is done.
16:56
What else can we see? That's kind of on the same ground level that Star Wars are in.
17:01
Star Wars or, Oh, geez, I don't know, like you're talking about what other kind of series.
17:06
Yeah, because I think we're getting a lot of like the building of the rebellion.
17:08
We have rebels and stuff like that that shows that. But I would like to get more outside of that particular timeline.
17:15
This shows the Star Wars universe. We always mentioned the pirates.
17:18
Of course, the pirates are on the table, but it would be nice to kind of see
17:21
more of the day to day life of people who live on these planets.
17:24
Yeah. So we have, I'm sorry.
17:27
It's okay. What's his name?
17:30
I can't remember the name Paul.
17:32
Such and such, but, Mr. Kim from Kim Convenience.
17:35
Okay. Yeah. Paul Lee.
17:39
Who plays one of the one of the pilots.
17:41
Yeah. So I was thinking I'd be kind of cool to have a series that is like
17:45
they're flight school Academy or something like oh heck yeah.
17:49
These people training you know because yeah you train you we see like
17:53
these things get picked up out of the sky and it's just a little burning ball
17:55
and it's quick and, you know, not so significant to us what they were training with each other.
18:00
Yeah. You know, ten years or something like that to be able to talk.
18:03
Maybe that's but they know these people really well.
18:05
And so when somebody, one of your brothers in arms dies, how traumatic is it for them.
18:09
So I think we could see building a lot of characters real close knit, like,
18:14
and then them going into battle and then the challenges, the like.
18:17
So I have a couple options. As you're saying this first off, you could put it back in this time period
18:21
and they're trying to create a flight school in the shadows.
18:25
So that the Empire doesn't know that they're training X-Wing pilots.
18:27
That's cool. Secondly, you can have after they win, and then you have also Hong Lee's time
18:33
when when we see him in The Mandalorian, where they're out there patrolling the outer rooms
18:36
where the Republic is still building again, so they can't have the ability.
18:39
So they're fighting like Little Empire Empire outlets or whatever.
18:42
You know. That's how you can introduce Empire.
18:45
It's. Yeah. Yeah.
18:47
Empire. I thought you said empires. I'm like Empire it. Oh my God.
18:51
So how do you think? But what if it's also the Clone Wars?
18:54
Because if in the Clone Wars, they're training these pirates,
18:56
they're training these pilots, and then you have that sad realization that they're dying to robots, to droids.
19:02
And so it's like, you know, why are we wasting our life?
19:05
You know, because if we're just dying and then these clones come in
19:07
that replaces that, there's all kinds of like, you know, you'd have a clone come in and, like,
19:11
trying to figure out what your relationship is with clones and stuff, and they age faster than you do.
19:15
Like questioning, like the value of life. Yeah.
19:17
Kind of thing versus like, you know, all these droids in this war.
19:21
I bet, right? Yeah. I think that would be something special.
19:25
Let's add more to Andor, because this is once the two seasons is
19:28
just simply not enough of the show. I think it's too expensive for them to keep making.
19:30
Frankly, they use good actors and stuff like that.
19:32
So that happens. And then we have, an announcement.
19:36
This is outside of Brazil's D23.
19:38
Lucas, film announced they're making three new Star Wars movies,
19:42
a trilogy, all created by Simon Kinberg.
19:45
So the key with this, there are other Star Wars
19:47
movies in the works, but they're all standalones. This is specifically a trilogy, and a first one is the first announced
19:52
by deadline. They said it was going to be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.
19:57
Then they said, well, we're hearing sources that it's not a continuation.
20:00
It's a separate trilogy. Which would you prefer, another Skywalker saga or outside of that?
20:05
I think outside of that, starting a new trilogy,
20:07
a whole new era would be, I think, better for the franchise in general.
20:12
I think the Skywalker thing is being played out.
20:15
Yeah, we, you know, we've seen so much of it.
20:18
But yeah, start mean and it doesn't have to be like this trilogy
20:22
and then it's over. Yeah. And see how the fans like this brand new adventure that you put together
20:27
and build on it. If people like it.
20:30
Yeah. I actually think it should be the Skywalker trilogy.
20:33
Trilogy. And this is why, because we already have other standalone movies coming up.
20:38
And I think if you kind of can service both sides of the fandom because,
20:42
boy, Star Wars fandom is so freakin toxic, it's just unbearable.
20:45
You have people who are willing to give everything a shot that,
20:48
like the world of Star Wars and just like, hey, let's show every corner
20:52
and then you have the other side of that. It's like it's lightsabers and lightsabers.
20:55
Guys, I don't care about anything else. I don't care about people's feelings.
20:58
I just wanna see lightsabers hit each other. So it's like,
21:00
okay, let's just give them both in because we can have our standalone stuff
21:03
that'll explore different corners of people, and then we can have the Skywalker Saga.
21:06
It's like, yeah, just tell the story of, you know, Luke Skywalker's kids.
21:10
You can just do that or whatever. Yeah.
21:12
I guess we just keep going until it works.
21:15
Yeah. It's just it's a shame that we can't enjoy things anymore.
21:20
It needs to evolve. Like, you need change. So even if it is going to continue in the Skywalker saga, there's.
21:24
Yeah, you know, some major differences.
21:27
And what we're saying, like, yeah, the Jedi starts to become corrupted
21:32
and the new orders already got problems and it's going to be dissolved
21:36
in reform or something. You know. Something like that. Yeah.
21:39
But even that feels like it's been played out. You know, what movie I keep returning to is that daddy movie.
21:43
Yeah. That it was such a freaking good movie and all.
21:47
It was like, hey, we're going to tell a small story in a world you're pretty familiar with.
21:50
If you know judges or dragons at all, I can't.
21:52
We just do that. Why is that so hard to do?
21:54
Landing on a planet boom happened to be, you know, three stormtroopers and some,
21:59
you know. They were. They were transporting a bunch of Wookiees.
22:02
Another Wookiees broke out on the loose. And you got to hunt them down.
22:05
There you go. We just made a good movie out of it right there.
22:08
Hit predator. But with the Star Wars stuff.
22:11
Yeah. Wookiees. They use the elements against them, and they end up killing them
22:14
and taking the ship, and they know how to fix it, so they restore.
22:16
Oh, my God. And like I said, you see, is
22:19
that, like, heading towards a rebel base and, like, joining the rebels and stuff.
22:22
Like, made friends with, the natives on the planet?
22:25
Yeah. He walks. Why not?
22:27
We already got he walks on the story. Oh, man. There you go.
22:31
Lucasfilm. Once again, please get. Ahold of us. We'll help you guys out.
22:34
All right, that's it for the news. It's been a pretty light. Newsweek.
22:37
It's been a lot of Brazilian, DC, Brazilian, D23.
22:40
Boy, the brain cells are firing today. Let's we're going to head into a review.
22:43
But first, Jonathan, let's talk about magic mind.
22:46
We both have used Magic Mind for a long time.
22:49
We're talking about how much it helps us stay focus in the morning
22:52
while not creating the that, jittery feeling or anything like that.
22:56
Can you talk a little bit about Magic Mind? Yeah. I gotta say, every once in a while,
22:59
from busy around the house, or especially if we're gonna take a trip somewhere.
23:03
Before I used to bring an energy drink. Yeah, I would pound energy drink and think like, oh, yeah, I'm little, I don't,
23:08
I get, like, hyperactive you.
23:11
Yeah. And sure, I move fast and stuff, but that but my focus isn't there.
23:17
I just don't feel healthy, obviously. Yeah, but when you use magic, right. It's just totally different.
23:21
You're sharp and clear and focused.
23:23
But, I mean, you feel like you would like your synergy to be
23:27
if you're going to go in a certain you're you're able to focus without being shaky.
23:31
Jittery. Yeah. Hyperactive energy.
23:34
Yeah I like that. It's just kind of,
23:36
you know, it's not like a night and day transformation of who you are. No.
23:39
You can just feel you're just feeling a little bit more clear
23:42
and on point versus, you know, drowsy or groggy or, you know.
23:48
Yeah. Guys linked in the description to get yourself an order, a magic mind
23:51
and then use the, code to get 20% off.
23:55
All right. So next up we're going to be talking about Dragon Age the Vale guard.
24:00
John, have you had a chance to play? What game are you playing right now?
24:04
I'm not playing. What do you like, a dad?
24:08
All right. I just reviewed my tour list and realized, man, I'm getting behind us some choices.
24:11
Yeah. Eight last time I try to use my computer was trying to play satisfactory,
24:15
which is a great game, and it's fully released now, and my computer can.
24:19
Yeah. And then I'm really realizing, like, regular web
24:22
browser stuff is starting to get slower. Yeah, yeah.
24:24
Definitely need to upgrade my computer. I have an Xbox Xbox One and don't play anything on that.
24:29
So my computer was my gaming system and it's,
24:33
nothing right now. It. I didn't realize how old your computer had gotten, but then it was like, wait,
24:37
that was like eight years ago. So it's. Yeah, it is time to upgrade.
24:40
And you have got a new graphics card since eight years ago. Just to clarify how long it's been.
24:44
Yeah. Okay, so I was playing Dragon.
24:48
Dragon Age. The Vale guard brand new game just came out from BioWare.
24:52
I like Dragon Age Inquisition, so I was looking forward to an a continuation of that.
24:56
Now, a couple of quick things. Just right off the bat, first off, combat is far faster than Inquisition.
25:01
It's a whole, you know, it kind of pushes aside
25:04
the strategy based combat of the old games and now embraces its faster pace,
25:08
more modern combat that we're seeing from, like, Final Fantasy and whatnot.
25:12
Visually beautiful. There are plenty times where I stopped and like, oh, that's way
25:15
they cool how they have this planet floating by or something like that.
25:19
It is the environment. Like, damn, somebody put a lot of time in this game.
25:22
Yeah, cool. I just want to spend a little time in this world.
25:24
Yeah. There's plenty of times where that you're on
25:26
rails is not open world, but you don't feel too constrained.
25:30
The hub places are very, you know, a lot of places to explore.
25:33
You'll find secrets if you do. And then, of course, there's the story and the characters.
25:37
The story. Solid story. There's a, it can bogged down in the middle, I've realized,
25:42
but it's a solid story where you're trying to basically stop
25:46
these two gods that got out at the very beginning. I like how it does the call of duty interests, what I call it, where it puts
25:50
you in the middle of a major story already a major mission, and you failed it.
25:55
And then you're like, oh, now we got to undo what we just failed.
25:57
So it's a Call of Duty move. But they did it in this one.
26:00
Like I did. You can't. Yeah. That the truth.
26:03
You guys weren't meant to fail it. But you did that. So many other plans.
26:07
But yeah. So that's that's how it starts off.
26:10
And then a lot of it is like, just trying to
26:13
I find myself wanting to do all the side quests
26:15
because you push up all the, campaign, companions you're with
26:20
because this is one of those games where every single decision you make
26:23
and talking in dialog and stuff like that affects how the story's
26:26
going to go, how your campaign, how your companions react to you.
26:30
You can fall in love with some of them. Malaria all day.
26:33
And yeah, so it kind of changes based off all that.
26:37
It's a really, really great RPG that I haven't had a good Western RPG
26:40
in a long time and reminds like fable, you know, those old classic ones.
26:43
I used to play a lot Skyrim, but it's third person, you know?
26:46
And yeah, the decisions are really impactful.
26:49
And what I like is the game automatically saves before you enter into, conversation, because you might have messed up,
26:55
and if you messed up and you were like, said something like, oh, no, I was offensive to that guy.
26:58
Didn't mean to me. I just accidentally press that button. You could go back to the save.
27:01
Yeah, because they were having problems with that.
27:03
But have you played any games like that in a while?
27:07
Things. I can't think of it. I mean, honestly, when I think of things much the horns.
27:11
But I think you played fable right now try to remember what games you. But.
27:16
Yeah. Where you. Like.
27:18
That's classic. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.
27:23
Oblivion was the closest thing that. Yeah.
27:25
That doesn't have this though. Like this one has like, you know,
27:28
Knights of the Old Republic made by the same company and stuff like that.
27:30
There's all these things where the things you do impact the game,
27:34
and it really makes you think about it. It's it's really quite a fun system to have in the game.
27:38
And it makes me actually care about these companions.
27:41
I've gone purposely like, hey, your next mission is to go this way.
27:43
I'm like, okay, hold on. Before I do that, let me go check in with everybody and it adds more missions to you.
27:48
And you know, you can flirt with some or you like continuing the beef with others.
27:52
One of the famous early decisions I say early because it's like in hour ten.
27:57
It's a 60 hour game. But one of the, early decisions is where you have to choose
28:01
to save one city, whether there's a dragon attacking each city.
28:05
And so you could choose, and, and of course,
28:09
the companion came from each city, so they're going to care. And one city is, it has these crows that are kind of like an assassins guild.
28:16
It protects the city, kind of the law for the land.
28:19
And they protect the people there. The other city has a bunch of, like, mages that kind of run the city and stuff,
28:24
and I choose the crow side because I felt like, well, the other side
28:28
looks like they have more people and they're really worried about. Yeah.
28:31
And they were really worried about like if they were to defend against a dragon,
28:34
which sounds like they could successfully do that.
28:36
They're adversaries of an Atari. We're going to, you know, take the seat of power.
28:41
I was like, that seems like someone could handle these guys.
28:43
Don't have that. These are a bunch of assassins versus a dragon.
28:47
They'll be be outmatched. And other than that, it's just regular people.
28:49
And online like TikTok feed is always right now
28:52
it's all Dragon Age and politics. So.
28:55
But there's so many people arguing from both sides of that particular choice.
28:59
And one lady who I don't know what her background is, but you could swear
29:03
it's got to be in like city structure or whatever,
29:07
because she's breaking down like, well, this is a port city.
29:09
And so when they go down, you know, it'll affect these different regions.
29:12
But the city that most people didn't pick, which one I didn't pick the one for the mages.
29:16
They said that's actually a major city that supports all these are surrounding towns.
29:19
And so now you affect all those towns and it's like, oh man.
29:23
I love the depth that this game goes into and you can really dig that into.
29:27
But yeah, it's a really solid game. I'm giving an eight out of ten.
29:30
You're describing that,
29:32
how you react to changes the outcome of the game?
29:35
Yeah. Seems like such a smart mechanic to put in the game, because it sure takes a lot of work.
29:40
A lot more. Yeah, pretty much. Right. A lot more stories that don't get used.
29:45
It means if you go back and replay this game and you intentionally just make some different decisions.
29:49
So yeah, this time I'm going to play a little more of a selfish jerk or whatever.
29:52
You'll get a totally different game. Yeah.
29:54
Famously, BioWare games work that way. People online, a lot of people are saying that,
29:58
hey, I'm playing my second time through this. I'm I'm, romancing this person all this time, I'm
30:02
really spitting down on these people and stuff like that. You can to play that way.
30:05
For Knights of the Old Republic, I always generally play is,
30:09
fallout calls him the Jesus character. Like, it's all good.
30:12
And, you know, the paladin of the group, are you gentleman, by the way?
30:15
But I went back to knights, a little public purposely playing like a Sith asshole.
30:19
And there's a whole different experience is great.
30:22
And it was it was fun. Was at the end, I ended up doing the same choice
30:25
because I was like, well, as a Jedi, the, the,
30:28
you know, when you find out you've been betrayed, I'd still want to save as many people as possible.
30:32
So I'm like, okay, I would go this way. But then as a Sith, I was like, wait a minute, I just found out I was betrayed.
30:37
Oh, I'm going to burn that guy down. Who's ready to kill all those people?
30:40
Yeah. So I was like, okay, I'm still being good.
30:43
And the redemption arc, if it wasn't such a selfish.
30:45
Yeah, it's just at the end, I'm, like, striking down all the Sith or I'm becoming the ones.
30:49
It's the. Best thing. Yeah. It was.
30:52
It's it's a really fun mechanic, but it does add a lot of story.
30:55
It adds a lot of recorded lines. It adds a lot of expense. BioWare happens to be known for it.
30:59
Yeah. I'm sure I had to upgrade my computer before.
31:02
This bad boy does not even land on Xbox One, Xbox Series X only.
31:06
It is very heavy duty. The combat is so fast. It's crazy.
31:11
Yeah. And I you know, we
31:13
we had a bet going on me and squeaks were squeaks had to pick my class.
31:16
If I had lost the Cowboys lost. I'm watching them lose right now behind you.
31:20
And. Yeah, sure enough, he picked.
31:22
He picked one. I would not have played normally, but it took some time.
31:25
But I'm getting used to it, and I'm. I'm this rogue duelist that has to, like, dodge and parry a lot more
31:30
than I would normally play in a video game. And I'm watching people
31:33
online play the mage and like, that's what I wanted to do.
31:35
But hey, that's what the second game plays for.
31:38
It's a blast, guys. Again, eight out of ten totally worth picking up if you haven't played it yet.
31:42
And, I feel like it's going to be on sale for Black Fridays if you want to wait for that.
31:46
Totally worth it. Yeah.
31:48
All right, I know this is a short one, but we're gonna go right into network news.
31:53
So for what's nice is we're heading in that time of year, everybody's off season.
31:57
So, you know, our last podcast has a few more episodes
31:59
to go, but our graphics interviews are done until February.
32:01
They're already booked, but they're in February. Challenge accepted.
32:06
We have an episode for Veep coming out next week.
32:08
And then we're also going to be doing a grand review for The Penguin and Arcane.
32:12
We're going to do arcane next week on, both.
32:15
I'm sorry. We're going to Arcane and Penguin, also on geek for next week's do.
32:18
Don't get me wrong on that, but it's going to be on challenge accepted.
32:20
And we just got done doing Twilight with very special guest Christina, wife of Thomas.
32:24
And holy cow, there's so much vampire law in those movies I did not know about.
32:29
Oh my god, dude, she read all the books like twice.
32:32
She read all the books? Yeah, I wish I could read fast.
32:34
Harry Potter had, like, a depth to it. Oh,
32:38
yeah. This is so much more.
32:41
I know there's like, oh my God, so much stuff. She knew it was really fascinating. Actually.
32:44
Got me actually kind of a fan of it. And then, yeah.
32:48
And so we actually have the, Who's Got Next Game podcast,
32:52
it's going to be on a break because of, we got a new baby in the family,
32:55
and then fandom portals is also on a break due to technical difficulties.
32:58
Poor Aaron, he likes to make his episodes, which is what a good podcaster does.
33:02
He banked up his episodes. All the files got corrupted.
33:06
I know, crushing. So sad.
33:08
Oh my God. So give some support to fandom portals to Aaron over there.
33:12
Poor guy's going through it right now. I hate when that happens
33:15
that we've all got technical difficulties, but the banked episodes that's.
33:18
Rough rerecording is never. It seems so hard to rerecord. Yeah.
33:23
Oh, yeah. And then we have Lore Master coming out on the 23rd.
33:27
So, you're going to start seeing art and stuff like that coming out for that right now.
33:30
I'm actually working with the artists right now for the covers,
33:32
so that'll be up pretty soon. All right, guys, thank you very much for hanging out with us this week.
33:36
And we'll see you next one. Bye.
