While I just discovered this podcast a week or two ago, I am already on episode 47. I'm a truck driver, so I spend a lot of time listening. I was on the lookout for a new podcast on animal attacks and how to prevent them after finishing up with Tooth & Claw (another great podcast). I went through every other animal podcast I could find on Spotify, none of them were very good, most had hosts who don't know much about the animals themselves and give inaccurate information. Get Out Alive was the last one I looked at because I had assumed from the title that it was strictly stories of those who survived attacks (I prefer the nail-biting spooky stories), but I couldn't have been more wrong. Ashley and Nick talk about both attacks in which the victim survived and those in which the victim did not. They talk about what the person may have done differently to avoid such a negative encounter, as well as how to react when such negative encounters happen. This is very much on-par with the quality of podcasts that I enjoy, and on-par with Tooth & Claw. The thing that actually raises this podcast above all others, in my opinion, is that the episodes are not made excessively long by using filler. What I mean by this is, a lot of podcasts fill up a significant amount of time with banter or discussions that have nothing to do with the story. Some take it so far as being 10 minutes of story, and 45 minutes of banter. While Ashley and Nick do talk and joke, and while they do sometimes get off topic, I think that they do it just the perfect amount. The episodes should be almost all about the animals and the encounters, with a bit of banter in between to break up the potential monotony of listening to a ton of facts. Ashley and Nick perfectly balance each other out. Ashley is mostly the "just the facts" host, whereas Nick is the lovable goofball that I think is important to have, and who represents the larger segment of the population who don't have an in-depth knowledge of these animals and what one should do during an encounter. I know he has frequently asked questions that I have found myself asking. There have been a few episodes that I have listened to in which Nick wasn't involved, and (sorry Ashley) it was not nearly as great. Chock-full of useful information, yes, but lacking the balance that makes this podcast so great. Nick is the ying to Ashley's yang, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Thanks Nick and Ashley for helping to keep me entertained during my long hours on the road, and I will continue to support you guys for as long as you keep up the podcast! To Nick as well, thank you for your service to this country. I am unaware of what branch of the military you served, and I am sure that having somebody thank you for your service is as awkward for you to hear as it is for me, but accept it for what it is. Appreciation for those who served. You already had my respect, but finding out you served was just icing on the cake. Keep up the good work guys!Much love!John LaClair
