Rockshow Episode 208 Three Dog Night

Three Dog Night is an American rock band that gained popularity in the late 1960s and 1970s. Known for their rich vocal harmonies and dynamic stage presence, the band was formed in 1967 by vocalists Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells. The group became famous for their ability to reinterpret songs written by other artists, turning them into major hits.

Key Facts About Three Dog Night:

Band Name Origin:

The name “Three Dog Night” reportedly comes from an Australian Aboriginal expression. It refers to cold nights in the desert when people would sleep with dogs for warmth—a “three dog night” being especially chilly.

Legacy:

Three Dog Night was one of the most commercially successful bands of their time, with 21 Top 40 hits, including three No. 1 singles and 12 gold albums. Even though their original run slowed down in the late 1970s due to internal struggles and changing musical trends, the band has continued to tour with various lineups.

Danny Hutton still leads the group today, though founding members Cory Wells (2015) and Jimmy Greenspoon (2015) passed away, and Chuck Negron tours separately.
