Today I am joined my Lib a pink obsessed mountain bike chick who got into the sport 2 years ago and is documenting her mtb progress on instagram, showcasing the highs and lows of progressing her riding.

We chat about what it was like for Lib to build up a network of riding buddies after her relationship ended and how signing up to grass roots downhill races was pivotal in building her confidence, meeting friends and feeling accomplished.  Lib isn’t in it for the podiums and we talk about the benefits of racing just for yourself.

If you are reading this and are new to the sport, or want to give racing a go, this podcast is for you.

The Guest:

I started mountain biking around 2 years ago, I didn't love it at first but as soon as I got a sniff of downhill I was hooked. You will find me in some sort of pink with my little pony hair swishing around.

You can follow Libs riding here @lib_mtb on Instagram

Take away's from the episode:

  • Entering a race series or individual races gives you a sense of purpose, a ready made group of supportive women and that warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment.

  • You don’t have to be in it to win it with racing.  Have a go, see what happens.

  • We love bikes.

Girls on wheels

Hello everyone, I'm Danielle, the girl behind the microphone trying not to swear. Once a week I will chat to fellow girls (and sometimes guys) about their love of riding and being a girl in this mountain biking world. Bringing to life the girls you might follow on social media and revealing we all have so much more in common than you may think. You can expect a lot of 'me too' moments when we chat about real life and how biking helps us cope with adulting and navigating our daily lives. There will be special episodes where I chat with the superhumans who ride amongst us, who despite adversity are still on their bike! These episodes are sure to get those goosebumps going. Expect raw, unpolished, relatable content with humour, wit (from my guests) and inevitable swearing, sorry kids. I hope the pod will offer insights, inspiration and motivation, spark interesting conversations, create a catalyst for change and give you comfort in knowing we are all the same and a feeling of hell yeah, get me on a bike immediately. You can follow along with the pod on instagram - https://www.instagram.com/girlsonwheelspodcast/ and on the dedicated facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/girlsonwheelspodcast. Please subscribe to the GOW newsletter at www.girlsonwheelspodcast.co.uk where you’ll get a peek at the upcoming episodes, get a chance to get involved in the pod, either by suggesting topics or future guests, coming on to share your story, or joining the panel for random episodes. Plus social event updates and other exciting shizzle. Don't forget to check out the pods number 1 supporter, Shawnee; the funniest Ozy on the planet and founder of Shred Like A Girl, a clothing brand with some of the sickest (I am not cool enough to say this in real life) tees out there - https://www.instagram.com/_shredlikeagirl/ or jump straight to her shop - https://shredgirl.com/ Girls on wheels coming at yaaaaaaaaa.
