Shalom! Holy Scriptures

0:11

and Israel is a

0:13

ministry designed to share with

0:15

the Jewish people the

0:17

good news of the Lord

0:19

Jesus Yeshua the Messiah

0:21

and to instruct Christians on

0:23

the Jewish roots of

0:25

their faith. And now, teaching

0:27

God's word from a

0:30

Hebrew messianic perspective, here is

0:32

Gideon Levitam. Okay,

0:40

shalom everyone, please

0:42

turn with me to the We

0:50

just have been singing Jesus'

0:52

name above all names. blessed

0:56

Redeemer wonderful

0:59

song to

1:01

sing and the

1:03

reason that we can sing

1:05

that song is because we

1:07

are aware of the fact

1:09

that his name is above

1:12

every name like the

1:14

Apostle Paul like Shaul

1:16

said many years ago that

1:19

in the name of Jesus, in

1:21

the name of Yeshua, every

1:23

knee will bow and every tongue

1:25

will confess that Yeshua the

1:27

Messiah is Lord to the

1:29

glory of God the Father. That

1:32

is exactly what we

1:34

get here when we are

1:36

studying the book of Hebrews

1:38

and when we are reading

1:40

the second chapter of this

1:42

book because it

1:45

is there that the apostles

1:47

who write to these early

1:49

Hebrew believers were emphasizing to

1:51

them that the name of

1:53

Yeshua, that the person of

1:55

Yeshua is superior than all, and

1:58

especially in chapter 2 he is

2:00

superior than the angels. And

2:04

we are reading today from

2:06

verse 10 to the end, and

2:08

that will be the topic for today.

2:11

that Yeshua is superior than

2:13

the angels as men

2:16

in the fact for

2:18

the reason that what he

2:20

had accomplished for us when he finished

2:22

the work for us on the cross,

2:24

on the tree. But

2:27

in connection to verse 10, I'll just

2:29

read verse 9, which was the less

2:31

verse of our last meeting together. And

2:34

you remember we just sang, Yeshua,

2:37

Jesus, name above all name. The

2:40

writer to the Hebrew

2:42

says, but we see

2:44

Yeshua Who was made a little

2:47

lower than the angels for

2:49

the suffering of death crown with

2:51

glory and

2:53

honor That he this

2:55

is Yeshua By

2:57

the grace of God should

2:59

taste death for every

3:02

man or everything actually

3:04

For it became him

3:06

for whom are all things

3:10

and by whom are all

3:12

things in bringing many sons

3:14

unto glory, to

3:16

make the captain, or

3:18

the leader, or

3:21

the pioneer of

3:23

their salvation perfect

3:25

through suffering. For

3:28

both he that sanctifyeth,

3:31

and they who are sanctified

3:33

are all of one, for

3:35

which cause he is not

3:37

ashamed to call them brethren.

3:40

saying, I will declare

3:42

thy name unto my

3:45

brethren. We just read it in

3:47

Psalm 22. I

3:49

will declare thy name unto

3:51

my brethren. In the

3:53

midst of the congregation will

3:55

I sing praise unto

3:57

thee. And again I will

3:59

put my trust in him

4:02

and again behold I and the

4:04

children which God has given me.

4:07

for as much as the

4:09

children are partakers of flesh

4:11

and blood. He also

4:13

himself likewise took part of

4:16

the same, that

4:18

through death, he

4:21

might destroy him that had

4:23

the power of death

4:25

that is the devil, and

4:29

deliver them who through

4:31

fear of death were

4:33

all their lifetimes subject

4:35

to bondage. For,

4:38

verily, he took

4:40

not on him the

4:42

nature of angels, but

4:44

he took on him the seed

4:46

of Abraham. Wherefore,

4:48

in all things, it

4:51

behoved him to be made

4:53

like unto his brethren, that

4:56

he might be

4:58

a merciful and faithful

5:00

high priest in things

5:02

pertaining to God to

5:04

make propitiation

5:07

for the sins

5:10

of the people, for

5:12

in that he himself has suffered.

5:15

Being tempted or

5:17

tested, he is

5:19

able to aid or

5:22

to bring help to them

5:24

that are tested or

5:26

tempted. Verses

5:29

10 to

5:31

18 gives

5:34

us really, beloved brothers and

5:36

sisters, the

5:38

result or the fruit

5:40

or the outcome of

5:42

the work of the Lord

5:44

Yeshua the Messiah on the

5:46

tree on behalf of

5:49

mankind, on behalf of the

5:51

Hebrews to whom the

5:53

Apostle was writing to. Now

5:56

remember when we had the last

5:58

verse in our last meeting together

6:00

Verse 9 is such a

6:02

beautiful verse because verse 9

6:04

directs us to the men. Remember,

6:08

chapter 2 of the book of

6:10

Hebrews deals with the superiority

6:13

of Yeshua the Messiah over the

6:15

angels as men. In

6:17

chapter 1 we have him superior

6:19

over the angels as God

6:21

in his divine nature, but now

6:24

he presenting to them the

6:26

superiority of the Lord Yeshua the

6:28

Messiah over the angels as

6:30

a human being, as a man.

6:33

And that's why he says, but

6:35

we see Jesus. By

6:39

the way, many of them

6:41

must have never seen him in

6:43

their life. But

6:45

they saw him by

6:47

faith You see you

6:50

and I never seen

6:52

Yeshua The only description

6:54

of Yeshua we have

6:56

in the scriptures But

6:58

we have never seen him with

7:00

these natural eyes But we

7:02

look about by faith and

7:05

we see him We see

7:07

this man you notice the writer

7:09

give to those Hebrews his Hebrew

7:11

name Yeshua We

7:14

see Yeshua who

7:16

was made a little lower than the

7:18

angels for the suffering of death.

7:20

We see him crowned

7:22

with glory and honor. Now

7:25

what he's doing here beloved, look what

7:27

he does here. You

7:30

remember what he does here in

7:32

these verses. He

7:34

showed these Hebrew believers

7:36

that While

7:38

God gave Adam

7:40

and Adam's descendants,

7:43

he gave us

7:46

to be those

7:48

that will have authority over

7:50

all this universe. To

7:53

have dominion over all this world

7:56

but what happened because sin

7:58

came in, we don't

8:00

see anything yet being

8:02

put under foot

8:04

of mankind. We don't

8:06

see. that we have any

8:08

dominion over this world at all. We

8:11

have no dominion over the birds of the

8:13

earth, we don't have any

8:15

dominion over the fish in the sea,

8:17

and we don't even have any

8:19

dominion over the animals of the field.

8:21

We don't have any dominion, no

8:24

control. In fact, like we

8:26

said last time, we cannot

8:28

even control ourselves. We

8:30

have lost it. Because sin

8:33

came in, we have

8:35

lost dominion. But

8:37

here comes someone. His

8:39

name is Yeshua. He was born

8:41

in Bethlehem. Now

8:43

shall call his name Yeshua,

8:45

for he shall save

8:47

his people from their sin.

8:49

And here come this

8:52

wonderful man. And

8:54

he presents him in the Gospels. We

8:56

have the four Gospels. We have started

8:58

the Gospel of John. God

9:00

presents the Messiahship of Yeshua.

9:03

perfect man from every aspect

9:05

God present him to mankind

9:07

and he's showing to us

9:10

here is what I'm expecting

9:12

from men I've intended

9:14

that men will live

9:16

like complete devotion to me

9:18

complete desire to please

9:20

God but man because

9:23

of sin fail

9:25

sin came in and we did not

9:27

please the Lord but here come

9:29

Yeshua And Yeshua came,

9:31

beloved brothers and sisters, to this

9:33

world. He did not

9:35

come to live in this world

9:37

for a long life. He

9:39

came to die and to pay the

9:41

penalty for sin. And

9:43

that's why he says we, the

9:45

writer and the Hebrews, we

9:48

see him who was made

9:50

a little lower than the angel.

9:52

He became a man. Why

9:55

did he become a little lower

9:57

than the angels for the suffering death.

10:01

I don't believe we

10:04

understand even how

10:06

much sufferings Yeshua had

10:08

to suffer here in this world.

10:11

He suffered from the hands of

10:13

men. He suffered by

10:15

the hand of Satan and

10:17

ultimately he suffered by the

10:19

hand of a righteous God.

10:21

when he was hanging on

10:24

the cross remember what we

10:26

read today Psalm 22 where

10:28

he says my God my

10:30

God why have thou forsaken

10:32

me I can understand people

10:34

forsake me I can understand

10:36

Satan attacking me but God

10:39

why have thou why

10:41

did you forsake me and

10:44

of course he gives an answer in

10:46

the same song thou

10:49

art holy Thou

10:51

that inhabits the praises

10:53

of Israel. God

10:55

is holy. Sin

10:57

must be judged. There

10:59

was no man who was able to bear

11:01

the sin question. No animal could remove

11:03

the sin. No sacrificial animal could

11:05

remove the sin of this world. But

11:07

here come the Lord. Esmen

11:11

bearing our

11:13

sins in his

11:15

body on the tree. And

11:18

God who forsook him knew

11:21

why he forsook him because

11:23

he came to suffer and to

11:25

die and then not only to

11:27

die on the cross and to

11:29

remain there but he placed him

11:31

in a tomb and he raised

11:34

him and he took him to

11:36

the pinnacle of the universe and

11:38

he is now crowned with honor

11:40

and with glory now

11:42

in the next verses

11:44

beloved verses 10 to

11:46

verse 18 the

11:48

apostle, the writer,

11:51

give us three

11:53

things that

11:55

happen when the

11:57

Lord became a

11:59

man and died for us

12:02

on the tree. Three

12:04

consequences, three results,

12:06

at least present before us

12:08

here, that came about out of

12:10

the finished work of the

12:12

Messiah on the tree. Three

12:15

things he presenting. before us

12:17

but at the same

12:19

time he shows us

12:21

that the three

12:23

results that came out of

12:25

the work of the Messiah

12:28

could have never

12:30

happened by angels

12:32

because angels

12:34

never became men

12:37

sometimes in

12:39

the past history angels

12:41

appeared as men But they

12:43

actually never took

12:45

union, angelhood,

12:48

with humanity. They

12:51

never became men,

12:53

actually they appeared as men, like

12:56

in Genesis 19 when

12:58

they went to Sodom

13:00

and talked with Lot. And

13:03

like many other appearance of

13:05

angels in history, but

13:08

they never took union

13:10

humanity with angelhood. But

13:14

here we see God.

13:17

Took union humanity

13:19

with divinity. God

13:22

and man in

13:24

one. And so

13:26

now he is showing them

13:28

those three results. that

13:30

came out of the

13:32

finished work of Yeshua, the

13:35

man, when he died

13:37

for us on the

13:39

tree. Three things that he

13:41

brought about for the

13:43

benefit of the Hebrews and for

13:46

the benefits of everyone that

13:48

will believe on him. The

13:50

first thing is actually is

13:52

verses 10, 11, 12, and

13:54

13. The first result of

13:57

the work of Yeshua the

13:59

Messiah What happened

14:01

when he died for us

14:03

on the tree and paid a

14:05

penalty there on the tree, the penalty

14:07

for our sins, for men's sins? He

14:10

now can bring many

14:12

sons unto glory. He

14:15

now can bring many people who

14:17

can be called the sons, the children of God.

14:19

Remember what we have in the Gospel of John,

14:21

John 1? We're going to get to it in

14:23

our study. many as

14:25

we see him to them

14:28

he gave the right

14:30

to be called sons or

14:32

children of God. So

14:34

look at the verses I'm reading again

14:36

verse 10 to 13 for it became

14:38

him for whom

14:40

are all things and by

14:42

whom are all things in

14:44

bringing many sons unto glory

14:46

to make the captain

14:48

of their salvation perfect through

14:50

suffering. for

14:52

both he that sanctifies

14:54

and they who are

14:56

sanctified are all of one, for

14:59

which cause he is not ashamed

15:02

to call them brethren, saying,

15:04

I will declare thy name

15:07

unto my brethren, in

15:09

the midst of the congregation

15:11

will I give praise unto thee.

15:14

And again I will

15:16

put my trust in him

15:18

and again behold I

15:20

and the children which God

15:23

has given unto me. Now

15:25

let's just quickly follow up

15:27

these a few beautiful verses

15:29

in connection with the fact

15:31

that the work of the

15:33

Messiah, the work of the

15:35

men, Yeshua could bring about

15:37

many sons unto glory. Look

15:40

what he says in verse 10. for

15:45

whom are all things and

15:47

by whom are all

15:49

things in Bringing many

15:51

sons unto glory to make the

15:53

captain of their salvation perfect through

15:55

sufferings You see the

15:57

first thing he's saying is this in this verse

16:00

10 it couldn't

16:02

be otherwise

16:04

if Yeshua was going to

16:06

restore for the Hebrews to

16:09

restore for mankind the

16:11

relationship with God which they

16:13

have lost because of sin, he

16:17

had to become

16:19

the captain of their

16:21

salvation perfect through sufferings.

16:23

What does that mean?

16:26

This word for captain In

16:29

other words, could be used

16:31

leader or pioneer. What

16:33

a pioneer does, you know,

16:35

a pioneer goes before everybody

16:37

else and he's opening the floor,

16:39

if you will, opening the gate

16:42

for others to come later on

16:44

after him. That's what

16:46

happened when Yeshua came to this world and

16:48

died for us on the tree. He

16:50

opened the door, he became

16:52

the leader, the pioneer

16:54

as it says here so he

16:56

can bring many sons unto

16:59

glory in other words he became

17:01

a man he finished

17:03

the work on the tree he

17:05

suffered and he paid for

17:07

the penalties of sin and sins

17:09

and then he

17:11

became our captain of

17:13

salvation you know that you

17:15

and I have a captain we have

17:17

a pioneer We have

17:19

a leader of our salvation.

17:22

He is the one that

17:24

have gone before us. I

17:27

remember, I don't know if you remember

17:29

the story that happened years ago about,

17:31

I think it is in 1973, if

17:33

I'm correct, they

17:35

kidnapped a whole plane,

17:38

a France plane where there were many Israeli

17:40

and Jewish people on that plane. the

17:43

plane was kidnapped and had been taken

17:45

by the Palestinian and had been taken

17:47

all the way to Uganda. And

17:51

in order for this plane

17:53

to be brought back and those

17:55

Hebrews, those Jewish people that had

17:57

been captured there to be brought

17:59

back to the land of Israel,

18:01

somebody had to go and

18:03

to bring about some special event

18:05

there. It was one of

18:08

the greatest missions that Israel have

18:10

ever done. And I

18:12

remember I was there, I mean my wife

18:14

and I were in a bus in

18:16

Jerusalem riding from one area to another area

18:18

when the news came. Nobody

18:21

in the world knew that

18:23

Israel sent a few

18:25

planes all the way to Uganda. And

18:29

when the plane landed in

18:31

Uganda very late at night.

18:35

The military, the Israeli army,

18:37

in a second way, went

18:40

into the airport. There

18:42

were all these Jewish people, about

18:44

300 -400 of them, had been

18:46

held there by the terrorists. And

18:49

beloved, do you know what happened? The

18:52

Israeli military burst

18:54

into this airport and

18:56

killed all the

18:58

terrorists there and have taken

19:00

all these Israelis who were

19:02

captured there and quickly, immediately

19:04

brought them into the

19:06

planes and then they took them

19:08

off and they brought them back to

19:11

Israel. But do

19:13

you know what happened? The

19:15

leader of

19:17

this group of

19:19

military was the

19:21

one that got shot

19:23

and died in this special event. He

19:27

lost his life. Somebody shot

19:29

him and killed him. His

19:34

name was Yonatan Yoni. In

19:37

fact, his brother

19:39

is Netanyahu, Benjamin

19:41

Netanyahu. But

19:43

the leader have

19:46

lost his life in order

19:48

for others to benefit and be

19:50

set free. This

19:52

is just a feeble illustration of what

19:54

happened when our Blessed Lord Jesus

19:57

came to this world. If

19:59

he's going to lead the company of people

20:01

to become sons and daughters of

20:03

the Father, many sons unto

20:05

glory, what he had

20:07

to do, he had to become

20:09

the captain, the

20:12

leader, the pioneer

20:14

of our salvation

20:16

in order to bring

20:18

many sons unto glory. And

20:22

he paid a penalty for us

20:24

on the tree. He

20:26

became the captain of

20:28

our salvation. Do you know

20:31

that you and I could

20:33

never bring salvation to ourselves? The

20:35

benefit that you and I

20:37

received from the Lord Jesus becoming

20:39

a man, God becoming a

20:41

man in the person of Yeshua,

20:44

is that he became the

20:46

captain of our salvation. And

20:49

it says here that

20:51

to make the captain

20:53

of their salvation perfect

20:55

through sufferings. Now what

20:57

does that mean? Wasn't he perfect

20:59

when he first entered into this world?

21:01

Why does he use the word

21:03

to make him perfect? He

21:06

doesn't mean here that

21:08

Yeshua was not perfect.

21:10

He was definitely 100

21:12

% sinless without any

21:14

sin. but this

21:16

in connection, this word

21:18

perfect is in connection

21:21

with his savorhood. What

21:23

does that mean? Is that

21:25

he knows every

21:28

problem that you and I

21:30

have. What would

21:32

happen if the Lord

21:34

Jesus the Messiah would come on

21:36

a Monday morning to this world, will

21:39

die on a

21:41

Wednesday and will go to heaven

21:43

the next after three days rising from among

21:45

the dead on the first day of

21:47

the week. What would

21:50

happen? Would he understand what

21:52

you and I going through in

21:54

our life here in this world?

21:56

Would he understand the sin that

21:58

the world is under? Would

22:00

he understand every issue here

22:03

in this world? He

22:05

would never understand it the

22:07

way that he understand it by

22:09

living here in this world for

22:11

33 years. He

22:14

lived here in this

22:16

world for 33 years

22:18

and he became the

22:20

captain of our salvation. He

22:23

became perfect through the suffering

22:25

that he experienced here every day

22:27

of his life. You

22:30

know the suffering that you and I may

22:32

go through today. Suffering

22:34

that you and I might experience in our

22:36

life today. He has

22:38

suffered much more than you and

22:41

I ever. will be able to

22:43

go through. He suffered the

22:45

sufferings that are unmeasured.

22:47

We can never measure the

22:49

sufferings of the Messiah. That's

22:52

how he became our leader. He

22:55

became our leader through

22:57

suffering and death eventually. Then

23:00

you notice verse 11 says, for

23:02

both he that

23:04

sanctifies and they who are sanctified

23:06

are all of one. The

23:09

one that sanctifying is the

23:11

Messiah. The ones that are

23:13

being sanctified are those Hebrews

23:15

and you and I and anyone

23:17

and everyone who became a believer

23:19

in Yeshua. We

23:21

had to become of one. We

23:23

have to be united in one

23:25

purpose and one hope and one

23:28

glory and one work of

23:30

the Messiah. And because of

23:32

his work, we have

23:34

been united to him. He says

23:36

here, he that set us apart.

23:39

And we that have been

23:41

set apart are all

23:43

of one for which

23:45

cause is not a

23:47

shame to call

23:49

them brethren. The

23:51

Hebrew word is Achim. Again,

23:54

this verse has been taken

23:56

from Psalm 22. He

23:59

is not a shame to

24:01

call them a brethren now We

24:03

don't go to him and

24:05

call him brother Jesus or brother

24:07

Jesus like many we hear

24:09

in the world today, but he

24:11

is not a shame to

24:13

call us Achim Brother, you

24:15

see what is a brother a

24:17

brother is a person who has

24:19

the same parents the same the

24:21

descendants we are descendants of the

24:24

same we become sons and daughters

24:26

of the father and become,

24:28

he can call us now

24:30

brethren. We receive the

24:32

Messiah, we became children

24:34

of God, and he's

24:36

not a shame to

24:38

call them brethren. And

24:41

then he's quoting three

24:43

verses, in verses 12

24:45

and 13. Remember,

24:48

he doesn't have the Britahadasha, he

24:50

doesn't have the New Testament. He

24:53

has the Tanach! He has

24:55

the Old Testament, the Torah, Nevi

24:57

'im, Ktuvim, the Torah, it is

24:59

the five books of Moses, the

25:01

Nevi 'im is the prophet, and the

25:03

Ktuvim is the writing, the Psalms

25:05

and so on. Here's a

25:07

division of the Tanakh, Torah,

25:10

Nevi 'im, Ktuvim, the law,

25:12

the prophets, and the writings. And

25:15

he's quoting one

25:17

verse from the Psalms, from

25:19

the writings, and two

25:21

verses from the prophets. And

25:24

what does he say? What does he

25:26

quote? Here the writer says, I will

25:29

declare thy name unto my brethren. In

25:32

the midst of the congregation

25:34

will I sing praise unto

25:36

thee. Here

25:38

is the apostle, the writer, takes

25:40

the verse that is found in

25:43

Psalm 22 that is really in connection

25:45

with the future of Israel and

25:47

the restoration of Israel as a nation.

25:50

And he is taking this and he

25:52

is applying it to the body

25:54

of Messiah today. And

25:56

he says in this verse,

25:58

I will declare thy name unto

26:00

my brethren. In

26:03

other words, the Messiah

26:05

is going to declare

26:07

the name of God to the

26:09

brethren, to the rest of the believers,

26:11

to the people who become children of

26:13

God. In the

26:15

midst of the church, the word here,

26:17

the church in the King James,

26:19

but it should really be in the

26:21

midst of the congregation. Betoch

26:24

ha -kahal, the kehila,

26:26

the congregation, I

26:28

will give praise unto the Lord.

26:30

In other words, he is the

26:33

song leader. He is the

26:35

one that is leading the congregation

26:37

to sing the praises unto God

26:39

the Father. That's what he does.

26:42

He is in our midst that's why

26:44

when we are gathering together and

26:46

we are even singing together really the

26:48

one who leads the song is

26:50

not the one who's standing here in

26:52

the front. The one

26:54

who lead the song

26:56

actually is none else but Yeshua

26:58

the Messiah himself. He

27:00

leads in singing. You

From The Podcast

Holy Scriptures and Israel on Oneplace.com

In 1984, brothers John Van Stormbroek, Alfred Bouter and Gideon Levytam formed by God’s grace a ministry called The Holy Scriptures and Israel Bible Society of Canada. The purpose of the ministry was to reach our Jewish people with a copy of the Hebrew Scriptures. The Old Testament (The Tenach) and the New Testament (The Brit Ha-Hadasha). Over the years, we've had the privilege of providing many copies of God's Word to the Jewish communities across Canada. As time passed by, the Lord Yeshua took dear brother John Van Stormbroek to himself. The ministry of Holy Scriptures and Israel continued with additional development. In the early 1990’s, a weekly morning Bible class began which brother Gideon Levytam led regularly in the City of Toronto. This weekly open Bible class was held in the Willowdale assembly meeting hall. Eventually, a second mid-week evening Bible class was added. In April 2002, the need for an additional outreach Bible teaching meeting arose. We begun a Saturday (Shabbat) ministry meeting in which a systematic teaching of God’s word is presented to all who attend. Together we learn God’s Word, pray for each need and the salvation of Israel, and sing songs of worship unto our God, praising Him and our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. In Mid 2004 we started to air on Joy 1250 Radio station a 15 minute Bible teaching program called "The Holy Scriptures and Israel" with Gideon Levytam. The broadcast teaches God’s word from a Hebrew Messianic perspective and has proved to be a blessing to many. It's now aired seven days a week. Our prayer is that many more of our Israeli people will have a clear understanding of who Yeshua is, why we all need him, and come to know him as their Lord and Messiah.
