Shalom! Holy Scriptures

0:11

and Israel is a

0:13

ministry designed to share with

0:15

the Jewish people the

0:17

good news of the Lord

0:19

Jesus Yeshua the Messiah

0:21

and to instruct Christians on

0:23

the Jewish roots of

0:25

their faith. And now, teaching

0:28

God's word from a

0:30

Hebrew messianic perspective, here is

0:32

Gideon Levitam. The

0:40

study of Hebrews chapter

0:42

2 Well that's what happened when

0:44

Yeshua came to this world and died for us

0:46

on the tree. He opened

0:48

the door, he became the leader,

0:51

the pioneer as it

0:53

says here so he can

0:55

bring many sons unto glory in

0:57

other words he became a man

0:59

he finished the work on the

1:01

tree he suffered and he paid

1:04

for the penalties of sin

1:06

and sins and then

1:08

he became our captain

1:10

of salvation you know

1:12

that you and I have a

1:14

captain we have a pioneer We

1:16

have a leader of

1:19

our salvation. He is the

1:21

one that have gone

1:23

before us I Remember I don't

1:25

know if you remember the

1:27

story that happened years ago about

1:29

I think it is a

1:31

1973 if I'm correct They kidnapped

1:33

a whole plane a

1:36

France plane where there were many Israeli

1:38

and Jewish people on that plane The

1:40

plane was kidnapped and had been taken

1:43

by the Palestinian and had been taken

1:45

all the way to Uganda. And

1:48

in order for this plane

1:50

to be brought back and those

1:52

Hebrews, those Jewish people that have

1:54

been captured there to be brought

1:57

back to the land of Israel,

1:59

somebody had to go and to

2:01

bring about some special event there.

2:03

It was one of the greatest

2:05

missions that Israel have ever done.

2:07

And I remember I was there,

2:09

I mean my wife and I

2:11

were in the bus in Jerusalem

2:13

riding from one area to another

2:15

area when the news came. Nobody

2:18

in the world knew

2:20

that Israel sent a few

2:22

planes all the way to

2:24

Uganda. And

2:26

when the plane landed in

2:28

Uganda very late at night.

2:33

The military, the Israeli army,

2:35

in a second way went

2:37

into the airport. There

2:39

were all these Jewish people, about

2:41

300 -400 of them, have been

2:43

held there by the terrorists. And

2:46

beloved, do you know what happened? The

2:49

Israeli military burst

2:51

into this airport and

2:53

killed all the

2:55

terrorists there and have taken

2:57

all these Israelis who were

2:59

captured there and quickly, immediately

3:01

brought them into the planes

3:03

and then they took them

3:05

off and they brought them

3:07

back to Israel. But

3:09

do you know what happened? The

3:12

leader of this group

3:14

of military was the

3:17

one that got shot

3:19

and died in this

3:21

special event. He

3:25

lost his life. Somebody shot

3:27

him and killed him. His

3:30

name was Yonatan Yoni. In

3:34

fact, his brother

3:36

is Netanyahu, Benjamin

3:39

Netanyahu. But

3:41

the leader have lost his

3:43

life in order for

3:45

others to benefit and be

3:47

set free. This

3:49

is just a feeble illustration of

3:51

what happened when our Blessed Lord

3:53

Jesus came to this world. If

3:56

he's going to lead the company

3:58

of people to become sons and

4:00

daughters of the Father, many sons

4:02

unto glory, what he

4:04

had to do, he had to

4:07

become the captain, the

4:09

leader, the pioneer

4:11

of our salvation in

4:13

order to bring many

4:16

sons unto glory. And

4:19

he paid a penalty for

4:21

us on the tree. He

4:23

became the captain of our

4:26

salvation. Do you know that

4:28

you and I could never

4:30

bring salvation to ourselves? The

4:33

benefit that you and I

4:35

receive from the Lord Jesus

4:37

becoming a man, God becoming

4:39

a man in the person

4:41

of Yeshua is that he

4:43

became the captain of our

4:45

salvation. And it says

4:47

here that to make the

4:49

captain of their salvation perfect

4:51

through sufferings. Now what does

4:53

that mean? Wasn't he perfect

4:55

when he first entered into

4:57

this world? Why does he

4:59

use the word to make

5:01

him perfect? He

5:03

doesn't mean here that

5:05

Yeshua was not perfect.

5:07

He was definitely 100 %

5:10

sinless without any sin.

5:13

but this in connection,

5:15

this word perfect is

5:17

in connection with his

5:19

savorhood. What does that

5:21

mean? Is that

5:23

he knows every problem

5:25

that you and I

5:27

have. What would

5:29

happen if the Lord Jesus the

5:31

Messiah would come on a

5:33

Monday morning to this world, will

5:36

die on a Wednesday and will

5:38

go to heaven the next after

5:40

three days rising from among the

5:42

dead on the first day of

5:45

the week. What would

5:47

happen? Would he understand

5:49

what you and I going through

5:51

in our life here in this

5:53

world? Would he understand the

5:55

sin that the world is

5:57

under? Would he understand every issue

5:59

here in this world? He

6:02

would never understand it the

6:04

way that he understand it

6:06

by living here in this

6:08

world for 33 years. He

6:11

lived here in this

6:13

world for 33 years

6:15

and he became the

6:17

captain of our salvation.

6:20

He became perfect through the suffering

6:22

that he experienced here every

6:24

day of his life. You

6:27

know the suffering that you and I

6:29

may go through today. Suffering

6:31

that you and I might experience

6:33

in our life today. He

6:35

has suffered much more than you

6:37

and I ever. will be

6:39

able to go through. He

6:42

suffered the sufferings that are

6:44

unmeasured. We can never

6:46

measure the sufferings of the

6:48

Messiah. That's how

6:50

he became our leader. He

6:52

became our leader through

6:54

suffering and death eventually. Then

6:57

you notice verse 11 says, for

7:00

both he that sanctified and

7:02

they who are sanctified are

7:04

all of one. The

7:06

one that sanctifying is the

7:08

Messiah. The ones that are being

7:10

sanctified are those Hebrews and

7:12

you and I and anyone and

7:14

everyone who became a believer

7:16

in Yeshua. We had

7:19

to become of one. We

7:21

have to be united in one

7:23

purpose and one hope and

7:25

one glory and one work of

7:27

the Messiah. And because

7:29

of his work, we have

7:31

been united to him. He says

7:33

here, he that set us

7:35

apart. And we that

7:37

have been set apart

7:39

are all of one

7:41

for which cause is

7:44

not a shame to

7:46

call them brethren. The

7:49

Hebrew word is Achim. Again,

7:51

this verse has been

7:53

taken from Psalm 22. He

7:56

is not a shame to call

7:58

them a brethren now We don't

8:00

go to him and call him

8:02

brother Jesus or brother Jesus like

8:05

many we hear in the world

8:07

today, but he is not a

8:09

shame to call us Achim Brother,

8:11

you see what is a brother?

8:14

A brother is a person who

8:16

has the same parents the same

8:18

descendants We are descendants of the

8:20

same we become sons and daughters

8:23

of the father We become,

8:25

he can call us now

8:27

brethren. We receive

8:29

the Messiah, we became

8:31

children of God, and

8:33

he's not a shame

8:35

to call them brethren. And

8:38

then he's quoting three

8:41

verses, in verses 12

8:43

and 13. Remember,

8:45

he doesn't have the Britahadasha, he

8:47

doesn't have the New Testament. He

8:50

has the Tanach! He has

8:52

the Old Testament, the Torah, Nevi

8:54

'im, Ktuvim, the Torah, it is

8:56

the five books of Moses, the

8:58

Nevi 'im is the prophet, and the

9:01

Ktuvim is the writing, the Psalms

9:03

and so on. Here's

9:05

a division of the Tanakh,

9:07

Torah, Nevi 'im, Ktuvim, the law,

9:09

the prophets, and the writings. And

9:12

he's quoting one verse

9:14

from the Psalms, from the

9:17

writings, and two verses

9:19

from the prophets. And

9:21

what does he say? What does

9:23

he quote? Here the writer says, I

9:25

will declare thy name unto my

9:27

brethren. In the

9:29

midst of the congregation

9:32

will I sing praise unto

9:34

thee. Here is

9:36

the apostle, the writer, takes

9:38

the verse that is found in Psalm

9:40

22 that is really in connection

9:42

with the future of Israel, and the

9:44

restoration of Israel as a nation. And

9:47

he is taking this and he

9:49

is applying it to the body of

9:51

Messiah today. And

9:53

he says in this verse,

9:56

I will declare thy name

9:58

unto my brethren. In

10:00

other words, the Messiah is going

10:02

to declare the name of God

10:04

to the brethren, to the rest

10:07

of the believers, to the people

10:09

who become children of God. In

10:12

the midst of the church, the

10:14

word here, the church in the King

10:16

James, but it should really be

10:18

in the midst of the congregation. Betoch

10:21

ha -kahal, the kehila,

10:23

the congregation, I

10:26

will give praise unto the

10:28

Lord. In other words, he's the

10:30

song leader. He's the

10:32

one that is leading the congregation

10:34

to sing the praises unto God

10:36

the Father. That's what he does.

10:39

He is in our midst. That's why

10:41

when we are gathering together and

10:43

we are even singing together, really the

10:45

one who leads the song is

10:47

not the one who's standing here in

10:49

the front. The one

10:52

who leads the song actually

10:54

is none else but Yeshua

10:56

the Messiah himself. He

10:58

leads in singing. He leads

11:00

the congregation in song and

11:02

that's why you are not

11:04

to be afraid or ashamed to

11:06

sing to the Lord. We need

11:08

to sing to the Lord because

11:10

the song leader is leading us.

11:13

As he says here, I will

11:15

declare thy name in the

11:17

midst of the congregation, will I,

11:19

notice now, he, Yeshua,

11:21

singing praises unto God,

11:23

leading the congregation to

11:26

sing the praises unto

11:28

God. And then

11:30

he's quoting verse 13. He's quoting two

11:32

more verses from the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah

11:34

8 .7. Isaiah 8

11:37

.17. I will

11:39

put my trust in

11:41

him. The

11:43

second verse. I and the

11:46

children which God had given

11:48

unto me. You see. he

11:50

take all testament verses or

11:52

verses from the Tanakh and

11:54

he apply it now to

11:56

the believers first of all

11:58

those Hebrew believers who already

12:00

have been part of the

12:02

nation of Israel but they

12:04

became believers in Yeshua the

12:07

Messiah but he applying it

12:09

to all the saints in

12:11

this present day age the

12:13

church age he applying it

12:15

to us I and the

12:17

children which God had given

12:19

unto me he's like presenting

12:21

us before the father he

12:23

says God you have given

12:25

me children many children and

12:27

he's presenting us before God

12:30

I and the children which

12:32

God had given unto me

12:34

so beloved the first thing

12:37

that came out or the result that

12:39

came out of the work of the

12:41

Messiah, he brought many sons

12:43

unto glory. You know

12:45

how many people who came to faith

12:47

in Yeshua the Messiah, whether

12:49

it is in Jerusalem, Israel, whether

12:51

it is in Toronto, Canada, whether

12:53

it is in New York, the USA, whether

12:56

it is in Paris, France,

12:59

wherever you are in Europe, whether it

13:01

is in the Middle East or wherever

13:03

it is, many people became believers in

13:05

the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. And

13:07

they are the sons and

13:09

daughters of the Father. We

13:12

become brethren. He's not

13:14

a shame to call

13:16

us brethren. And

13:18

how grateful are we to

13:20

be to the Lord that

13:22

He would call us. We.

13:24

who were dead in trespasses

13:26

and sins, but after

13:28

we have been saved and forgiven, after

13:31

the finished work of Yeshua the

13:33

Messiah, He is not ashamed to

13:35

call us brethren, and we become

13:37

sons and daughters of the Father.

13:40

He brought many sons unto glory.

13:42

One day, when we are

13:44

going to leave this scene in

13:46

this world, we are going

13:48

to be presented to the Father

13:51

as the Son's Many sons,

13:53

many daughters will be brought into

13:55

the presence of God into

13:57

his glory. That's precious. Something we

13:59

have always be grateful to

14:01

the Lord for this. And

14:04

that's what he's emphasizing to

14:06

those early Hebrew believers. Discourage,

14:08

though they were. Dismayed,

14:10

though they were. They were in danger

14:12

of going back into the sacrificial system.

14:14

He says to them, don't do that. Don't

14:17

forget what the Messiah have done

14:19

for you. Don't forget that Yeshua is

14:21

the one that finished the work

14:23

for you. Look to him by faith

14:25

into heaven. You will see what

14:27

he have done for you. He brought

14:29

you Hebrews and many others many

14:31

sons unto glory. That's the first thing.

14:34

But then Let's go down to

14:36

the next verses. In the

14:38

next verses, verses 14, 15,

14:41

and 16, the

14:43

second result of the work

14:45

of the Messiah he presents

14:47

before these Hebrews. What

14:50

is the second

14:52

result? He disarmed Satan

14:54

and he freed

14:56

us from the fear

14:58

of death. I

15:00

repeat it. He disarms

15:02

Satan and he freed

15:04

us from the fear

15:06

of death. Look,

15:09

the next verses I'm reading,

15:11

verse 14. For as

15:13

much then as the children are partakers

15:15

of flesh and blood, he

15:18

also himself likewise took part

15:20

of the same. That

15:22

through death he might destroy

15:24

him that had the power

15:27

of death that is the

15:29

devil. and deliver

15:31

them who through fear of

15:33

death were all the

15:35

lifetime subject to bondage. For

15:38

verily he took not on

15:40

him the nature of angels,

15:43

but he took on him

15:45

the seed of Abraham. Beautiful

15:47

verses, I know it seems to

15:49

be so much to grasp, but let's

15:51

just chew it a little bit

15:53

and let's just see what he is

15:55

meaning here. He says,

15:58

first of all, in verse

16:00

14, for as

16:02

much as the children

16:04

are partakers of flesh

16:06

and blood. Now that

16:08

we became children, now

16:11

he is trying to explain

16:13

why it is so important

16:15

for us to understand how

16:18

he completed this armed Satan

16:20

and freed us from the

16:22

fear of death. He

16:25

had to become a man

16:27

like you and I who

16:29

are partakers of flesh and

16:31

blood. See look at us

16:33

even in this room today.

16:36

All of us are partakers of

16:38

flesh as it says here

16:40

and blood. Blood running

16:42

through our veins. Flesh

16:45

is the body that we

16:47

have. We are human beings. and

16:50

you and I are human

16:52

beings but a failing human

16:54

being a human being that

16:57

have sinned in us but

16:59

he had to become like

17:01

us see the angels could

17:03

not become like us angels

17:05

could not save angels did

17:07

not became human being but

17:09

he did and so he's

17:12

saying because the children are

17:14

partakers of flesh and blood

17:17

He, this is the Messiah,

17:19

this is Yeshua, this

17:21

is God the Son.

17:24

He also himself likewise

17:26

took part of the

17:28

same. Notice, he

17:30

does not say that he became

17:32

a sinner. No. Or

17:34

what he says here, that

17:36

he took part of the

17:38

human nature. He

17:40

was born to the

17:42

Virgin Miriam. He became

17:45

the seed of the woman

17:47

Genesis 3 15 He was

17:49

born that one that is

17:51

born of you Be called

17:53

the son of God. He

17:55

became a man like you

17:57

and I Lived like you

17:59

and I walked in this

18:01

world like you and I

18:03

had a feeling like you

18:05

and I had the experience

18:07

Everything that you and I

18:09

experiencing every day You

18:11

know, sometimes people tell me, Gideon, brother

18:13

Gideon, you say, how can you say

18:15

that the Lord Jesus understand what I go

18:17

through? What does he know about

18:19

what I'm experiencing every day in my

18:21

life? Well, he became

18:23

a man just like you and I.

18:27

Yet sinned apart.

18:30

He did not become a

18:32

sinner, but he became

18:34

a man like you and

18:37

I. Spirit, soul,

18:39

and body. you notice

18:42

that throughout the Gospels he

18:44

was tired he leaned

18:46

you remember on the well

18:48

there in John chapter

18:51

4 he was thirsty he

18:53

asked the woman give

18:55

me to drink he was

18:57

crying if you remember

19:00

the shortest verse in the

19:02

Bible Yeshua wept in

19:04

John 11 you and I

19:06

know this very well

19:09

because you and I, many

19:11

times, find ourselves weeping

19:13

for many, many, many reasons.

19:17

He had experience. He was sleeping

19:19

at the boat when we are

19:21

tired. We are sleeping. He was

19:23

tired. He slept. He

19:25

became like us

19:27

sinner parts. He

19:30

took, as it says here

19:32

in verse 14. He

19:34

also himself likewise took

19:36

part of the same. He

19:39

became flesh and blood.

19:42

He became a man. A

19:44

man that experienced exactly

19:47

what you and I

19:49

are experiencing every day.

19:51

But you know, the

19:54

writer Isaiah, the

19:56

Hebrew prophet, called him

19:58

a man of sorrows, which

20:00

had been acquainted with

20:03

grief. Dear

20:05

beloved brothers and sisters, you

20:07

and I have many sorrows in our lives.

20:10

We have many griefs in our

20:12

lives. We know that. We

20:14

experience that. But Yeshua

20:16

is called the men of sorrow,

20:18

which have been acquainted with grief.

20:20

For as much as the children

20:22

are partakers of flesh and blood,

20:24

he also himself like was too

20:27

part of the same, it

20:29

says here, but then it says

20:31

why? Why did he take

20:33

part of the same? That

20:35

through death he might

20:37

destroy him that had

20:39

the power of death

20:42

that is the devil

20:44

Now you see beloved

20:46

brothers and sisters the

20:48

devil Satan Lucifer The

20:51

one angel that actually

20:53

the one that have influenced

20:55

or tempted or beguiled

20:57

Eve Chava in the Garden

20:59

of Eden The Bible

21:01

teaches us that Satan is

21:03

a murderer from the

21:05

beginning John 8 teaches us

21:08

this for he was

21:10

a murderer from the beginning

21:12

Well, why does the

21:14

Bible call him murderer from

21:16

the beginning? You know

21:18

why? because when

21:20

Satan influenced and tempted

21:22

Eve he brought about

21:24

a thought in the

21:26

mind of men that

21:28

if God really doesn't

21:31

care for men and

21:33

when Eve took the

21:35

fruit and brought it

21:37

to Adam and Adam

21:39

disobeyed God Adam and

21:41

the whole human race

21:43

have been plunging to

21:45

sin and the cause

21:47

of death is sin.

21:49

The wages of sin

21:51

is death. And

21:54

the murderer that we have

21:56

there in the Gospel of John,

21:58

the Lord himself saying about

22:00

Satan, that he was a murderer

22:03

from the beginning. And

22:05

so beloved it says that

22:07

the work of the Messiah on

22:09

the tree when he

22:12

died he went through death

22:14

he destroyed him that had

22:16

the power of death that

22:18

is the devil now the

22:20

devil does not decide who

22:22

died and who not but

22:24

the devil what he did

22:26

with the actions that he

22:28

did in the past and

22:31

the action that he still

22:33

does today he bringing about

22:35

in the life of the

22:37

human race that which

22:39

lead a person to

22:41

reject God and eventually

22:43

die and being separated

22:45

from God. But

22:48

when the Lord Jesus the Messiah

22:50

died, he destroy,

22:52

he annul, you know this

22:54

expression, he destroy him that

22:56

had the power of death.

22:59

He render it inoperative. The

23:02

Greek word is Katageo

23:04

to render in

23:06

operative Satan's power.

23:09

To render in operative Satan

23:12

has no more power over

23:14

those that believe in Yeshua

23:16

the Messiah. He cannot influence

23:18

us and lead us to

23:20

such an extent that we

23:22

lead us unto death because

23:25

we now belong to another. That's

23:27

what happened here. He rendered,

23:29

as it says here, he

23:31

rendered in verse 14. He

23:34

destroyed him that had a

23:36

power of death. That is

23:38

the devil. He destroyed the

23:40

power of Satan. How

23:42

many people are under the influence

23:44

of Satan today? You

23:46

remember what we say? You are

23:49

either in or out. You are

23:51

either saved or you are lost.

23:53

You are either believer or an

23:55

unbeliever. The unbelieving world are under

23:57

the influence of Satan. In fact,

23:59

we read it in 2 Corinthians

24:01

4. The God of this world

24:03

had blinded the mind of them

24:05

that believe not. That's

24:08

what he does. He

24:10

blind the mind of them

24:12

that believe not and

24:14

he lead them into death

24:16

which is eventually not

24:18

only the physical and of

24:20

course the spiritual but

24:22

eventually to eternal death eternal

24:24

separation for God but

24:26

when Yeshua came when Yeshua

24:28

died he completely destroyed

24:30

him that had the power

24:32

of death that is

24:34

the devil to make

24:36

it of none effect to

24:38

render it inoperative he destroy

24:40

the power of death that

24:42

satan had in his hand

24:44

and you know if you

24:46

will ask people today what

24:48

you fear the most you

24:50

know what they will tell

24:52

you they will tell you

24:55

and i know that None

24:57

of us, or I should

24:59

say the human race in

25:01

general, one thing that they

25:03

do fear is the fact

25:05

that they do not know

25:07

what's going to happen after

25:09

death. They do

25:11

not know what's going to happen. That's

25:14

why in verse 15

25:16

he says to deliver them

25:18

who through fear of

25:20

death were all their lifetimes

25:22

subject to bondage. You

25:26

see, fear of death means

25:28

that You become in bondage. What's

25:30

going to happen after I

25:32

die? What's going to happen? Where

25:35

am I going to spend

25:37

eternity? I know some

25:39

people might say, well, don't worry, it's six

25:41

feet under the ground and it's all

25:43

over. No, beloved, it's not all over. In

25:46

fact, it's not even over for

25:48

the body. The body is temporarily

25:50

being placed underneath the six feet

25:52

of ground. But the

25:54

soul and the spirit of

25:57

man will have to be

25:59

spend eternity either in the

26:01

presence of the Lord or

26:03

away from the Lord in

26:05

eternal separation from Him. And

26:07

there is something that we all have to

26:09

admit even for us as believers. You

26:12

know when we think about

26:14

death sometimes it becomes something we

26:16

are shivered by the thought

26:18

of death. But you see

26:21

when we become believers in the

26:23

Messiah even though sometime

26:25

in our hearts we are not

26:27

quite sure because we are weak

26:29

in the flesh because we still

26:31

have this human nature but one

26:33

thing on the basis of the

26:35

word of God we have a

26:38

surety that every person that belonged

26:40

to the Lord Yeshua the Messiah

26:42

had been transferred from the kingdom

26:44

of this world to the kingdom

26:46

of the son of his love

26:48

and we don't have to fear

26:50

death because death for

26:52

the believer become a servant

26:55

to ashoo us into the

26:57

presence of the Lord. You

27:16

have been listening to the

From The Podcast

Holy Scriptures and Israel on Oneplace.com

In 1984, brothers John Van Stormbroek, Alfred Bouter and Gideon Levytam formed by God’s grace a ministry called The Holy Scriptures and Israel Bible Society of Canada. The purpose of the ministry was to reach our Jewish people with a copy of the Hebrew Scriptures. The Old Testament (The Tenach) and the New Testament (The Brit Ha-Hadasha). Over the years, we've had the privilege of providing many copies of God's Word to the Jewish communities across Canada. As time passed by, the Lord Yeshua took dear brother John Van Stormbroek to himself. The ministry of Holy Scriptures and Israel continued with additional development. In the early 1990’s, a weekly morning Bible class began which brother Gideon Levytam led regularly in the City of Toronto. This weekly open Bible class was held in the Willowdale assembly meeting hall. Eventually, a second mid-week evening Bible class was added. In April 2002, the need for an additional outreach Bible teaching meeting arose. We begun a Saturday (Shabbat) ministry meeting in which a systematic teaching of God’s word is presented to all who attend. Together we learn God’s Word, pray for each need and the salvation of Israel, and sing songs of worship unto our God, praising Him and our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. In Mid 2004 we started to air on Joy 1250 Radio station a 15 minute Bible teaching program called "The Holy Scriptures and Israel" with Gideon Levytam. The broadcast teaches God’s word from a Hebrew Messianic perspective and has proved to be a blessing to many. It's now aired seven days a week. Our prayer is that many more of our Israeli people will have a clear understanding of who Yeshua is, why we all need him, and come to know him as their Lord and Messiah.
