Welcome to the

0:05

first installment of the found audio creator

0:08

series. While how it ends is on its mid

0:10

season break, we'll be featuring episodes on

0:12

our feed from some of our fellow indie podcasters.

0:15

If you like what you hear, please make sure to check

0:17

out the show notes for more information on this

0:19

podcast, it's creator, and to find

0:21

out where you can listen to more episodes. In

0:25

July of twenty nineteen, Jeremy made

0:27

the fortuitous decision to make the

0:29

only bid on an abandoned storage

0:31

unit. Initially disappointed

0:34

by no apparent treasure, he soon discovers

0:36

a trove of the most extensive documentation

0:39

of unexplainable events in the San Diego

0:41

area he's ever seen. Join

0:44

Jeremy on the storage papers, a podcast

0:46

documenting his journey of discovery through

0:48

horrific, paranormal and

0:50

downright unusual events in each episode,

0:53

and sink into the frightening reality that works

0:55

just beneath the skin of our everyday lives.

You're listening to the storage papers.

1:34

Episode one, baby

1:36

cries. There's

1:42

something inside us that compels us to respond

1:45

when we hear baby crying. A

1:47

wide range of feelings may affect us whenever

1:49

we hear it, from sympathy to anxiety,

1:52

and even frustration and helplessness. Especially

1:55

if you're a parent who can't seem to figure out how

1:57

to get the crying to stop. Crying

2:00

is the universal cue for infants to

2:02

communicate that they have a need. A

2:05

need which they themselves are unable to

2:07

fulfill. The only thing

2:09

we know initially is that some

2:11

kind of action must be taken. As

2:14

I read the following account, try

2:16

to imagine how you would respond given the

2:18

same circumstances. Witness

2:25

statement from Jim Thorpe, Saturday,

2:27

February seventh two thousand

2:29

nine. Earlier

2:39

this evening, I went for my routine

2:41

jog. I've been training for a marathon

2:44

and Saturdays were always long mileage

2:46

days. I'd planned on getting

2:48

eleven miles in and I'd like to rent on the

2:50

stretch of bicycle trail by the lake for

2:52

my long runs. There's

2:54

plenty of tree cover for shade in

2:56

around evening time. There doesn't really seem

2:58

to be too many other people around. It's

3:01

peaceful. It

3:05

also just paved the trail so I could make

3:07

decent time as opposed to running on gravel

3:10

and dirt. And adding a little bit of my

3:12

favorite music really helps the old stress

3:14

management. Anyways, I

3:16

was about five miles in on the trail.

3:19

I know this because I could see the mile marker

3:21

just ahead. I was planning on

3:23

passing it and running another four minutes

3:25

before turning around. I've been

3:27

trying to keep an eight minute mile pace during

3:29

my training. But just before

3:31

I reach that five mile marker, I

3:33

thought I heard something like a moan or a

3:35

cream coming from the woods, oops, the lake.

3:45

So I decided to stop and pull my earbuds

3:48

out. It was oddly

3:50

quiet. I don't

3:52

always run with my headphones in, but

3:54

and listening to some music for some

3:56

extra motivation. Normally,

3:59

you could hear birds chirping, crickets or

4:01

maybe even frogs nearby, but

4:03

not this time. The

4:05

only thing I heard was a slight breeze

4:07

through the trees. I

4:10

waited for about ten or fifteen seconds looking

4:12

in the direction I thought I heard the noise

4:14

from and didn't hear or

4:16

see anything really until I was about

4:18

to put my earbuds back in. That's

4:21

when I heard it. Too

4:32

distinct cries from a baby. I

4:35

remember when my kids were babies, my

4:38

wife and I could distinguish what they needed by

4:40

the types of cries they made. The

4:43

cry you hear when a baby's hungry is different

4:45

than when the baby needs a diaper change, if

4:47

you know what I mean. This

4:49

sounded like the cry our kids made when they

4:51

were hungry. If

4:54

I had to estimate how far away I thought

4:56

cry was. I'd say no more than a hundred feet

4:58

from the trail I was on. So, of

5:00

course, I head in the direction of the

5:02

crying. Once

5:07

I got to the point where I thought the baby could

5:09

have been or maybe slightly past that,

5:12

I noticed a thick fog rolling

5:14

in that came up to my knees. Cloud

5:17

cover also kind of made it dark under

5:19

the trees. Listening

5:21

intently, it was still really

5:23

quiet. I could hear my

5:25

own footsteps when I walked and wrestled the

5:27

leaves or maybe broke some twigs.

5:29

But I still didn't hear any animal or

5:31

insect sounds. Looked

5:34

every direction and I couldn't seem to find

5:36

any evidence of a baby. I

5:38

shouted hello and waited, and

5:40

about another ten seconds went by.

5:42

I heard the baby cry again. Two

5:45

cries and then it stopped.

5:58

I don't know if you've ever been around many crying

6:00

babies, but when mine used to

6:02

cry, they would only stop crying

6:04

when they got what they wanted or need it. They

6:06

don't care if it's daytime or nighttime,

6:09

whether you're sleeping or awake. I

6:11

just thought the two cries seemed odd.

6:14

To cries in absolute silence.

6:19

To add to that, the cries seemed like they

6:21

were about the same volume as the first time.

6:24

I thought for sure they'd be louder since I

6:26

was closer in the direction I heard heard them

6:28

from. In fact, I'm not sure

6:30

I'd even gotten any closer to them.

6:32

It was almost like someone was carrying

6:34

a baby while traveling away from

6:36

me. I

6:39

continued deeper into the trees and tried

6:41

to make vocal contact again. I

6:43

called out hoping perhaps an adult was

6:45

with the baby. I yelled out

6:47

things like, are you hurt? And do

6:49

you need help? Eventually,

6:52

I got far enough into the trees that I lost

6:54

sight of the bike trail I'd been jogging on.

6:57

The fog had completely rolled in by

6:59

now, and it was so thick I couldn't even see

7:01

my feet. I was fairly

7:03

sure I was walking in mud too.

7:06

Started walking slower because I didn't want to turn

7:08

my ankle in something I couldn't see.

7:11

So I stopped again and yelled, can

7:13

anybody hear me? Then

7:15

there went to cry again, just two

7:17

of them. Only this time they were a

7:19

little closer and in a

7:21

slightly different direction. That's when

7:29

I noticed one thicket of trees that were

7:31

tight bunch together about thirty feet away

7:33

from me. I hadn't noticed it

7:35

until I heard the cries and looked in that direction.

7:37

I thought to myself, if

7:40

a baby is lying on the ground in the fog,

7:42

I'm never gonna see it. So I headed

7:44

toward the thicket slowly just making sure

7:46

to drag my feet. As

7:52

I approached the thicket, I noticed what appeared

7:54

to be the entrance of a small cave.

7:57

It's see the rounded ceiling of the cave

7:59

entrance just above the fog. It

8:01

was only about four feet wide, and

8:03

it would probably fit a full grown person who

8:06

was willing to get on all fours to go in I

8:09

moved toward the cave thinking that

8:11

it was gonna be the most likely place someone

8:13

would find shelter if they needed it. I

8:15

was still cautious about my footing as

8:17

I slowly approached the thicket of trees outside

8:19

the cave entrance. I

8:22

tried talking more to see if I could prompt another

8:24

cry or maybe a response from another person.

8:28

Once I started going under the thick canopy,

8:30

I noticed a very foul odor.

8:33

It was like a dense

8:35

smell of urine, wet dog,

8:37

and skunk combined. And

8:39

it overwhelmed my senses to the point where I

8:41

thought I was gonna be sick. I

8:44

had to stop right there for a moment to

8:46

pinch my nose because of the stench.

8:48

And I decided to call out again a

8:50

little quieter this time. Almost

8:54

immediately the baby cried again. And

8:56

it couldn't have been more than ten or fifteen

8:58

feet away. I

9:07

understand pinched

9:11

my nose and began shuffling toward the

9:13

cave entrance. As

9:15

I moved forward, I was trying to peer

9:17

into the cave, but there was just

9:20

darkness. Felt a

9:22

cold breeze coming from the cave,

9:24

and even though I heard some scuffling

9:26

beyond the mouth, I couldn't

9:28

see anything. Figured I was

9:30

probably close to the baby so I continued

9:32

on until my foot bumped something

9:34

soft. I looked down toward

9:36

my feet and still couldn't see them through the

9:38

fog, plus it was actually getting

9:40

darker the closer I got to the mouth of the

9:42

cave. So I reached down and tried

9:44

to feel whatever it was my foot had

9:46

bumped into. It felt

9:48

like skin but it

9:50

was cold and clammy. I

9:52

was able to grip my hand around

9:54

it and decided to lift whatever it was

9:56

above the fog so I could take a look.

10:01

Quickly recognized it as an adult

10:03

females arm. I

10:08

had gripped it around the forearm and saw the

10:10

hand rise out of the fog first. The

10:13

arm was ice cold, wet,

10:16

and dirty with a few scrapes on it around the

10:18

elbow. It had a

10:20

women's GPS watch on it

10:22

similar to the one I wear but

10:24

smaller in with a pink band. The

10:27

latch didn't appear to be on. I

10:30

also noticed there was pink fingernail

10:32

polish and a small tattoo of a ladybug

10:34

on the inner wrist. And that's

10:36

when I began to really panic. I'm

10:39

not used to being around dead bodies

10:41

and I began to get light headed.

10:44

And I started thinking about some poor

10:46

mother had died out here with her

10:48

baby nearby. And I wondered how

10:50

many days they'd been out here alone.

10:52

The baby had to be starving.

10:54

I was about to call out

10:56

again when some motion drew

10:58

my attention from deep within the cave.

11:01

Sounded like an animal charging me,

11:03

and there was a low grunting noise

11:06

that accompanied each stride. As

11:15

I look toward the cave to focus my

11:18

eyes, I saw two

11:20

dim yellow eyes reflecting back

11:22

at me, bouncing up and

11:24

down with each grunt I heard. I

11:27

froze for a moment until the creature near the

11:29

entrance of game or some of the

11:31

daylight outlined its shape. It

11:34

looked almost human.

11:37

When I witnessed was what

11:39

looked like an adult female, hunched

11:42

over on all fours, and I say

11:44

female because it looked like there were

11:46

pendulous breasts on his chest. The

11:49

head was bald and the

11:51

skin was pale white. Nearly

11:53

as pale as the arm, I had just dropped back down

11:55

into the fog. It moved

11:57

with such speed. I don't think I could

11:59

have moved that quickly on all fours. The

12:02

appendages were out of proportion to

12:04

the rest of the body and the

12:06

knees. The

12:09

knees look like they were bent the opposite

12:11

direction. But

12:13

aside from all that, it looked human.

12:16

It was probably

12:19

only ten feet away from me when I

12:21

finally built nerve to turn around and sprint back

12:23

towards the trail. I

12:30

looked over my shoulder once just to see it

12:32

emerge from the mouth of the small cave.

12:34

It was now in the faint light

12:36

and I could make out some additional details.

12:39

It looked old. I

12:41

could make out two stained

12:44

teeth about the size of my cell phone.

12:47

And the ears appeared to be pointy.

12:49

I have no idea what this

12:51

thing was, but I ran with all

12:53

the speed I could muster up until I found

12:55

the bike trail and turned ahead back

12:57

towards the trailhead where my car was

12:59

parked. It

13:03

was easier to run faster knowing what was

13:05

behind me. It

13:08

chased me for a while. About a

13:10

hundred yards later, the fog cleared up

13:12

and I couldn't hear anything behind me, so

13:14

I decided once more to turn my head

13:16

around. There by

13:18

the edge of the trail it seemed to have

13:20

stopped. It never stood up

13:22

fully, but it did raise itself up to

13:24

what looked like a squatting position.

13:27

Now that I knew I could outrun thing,

13:29

I stopped for a moment. Though

13:31

its head was facing me, its eyes

13:33

appeared to be closed. It was under

13:35

the impression that it was just

13:37

being guided by the sound I was

13:39

making. And I watched as

13:41

the sound of a baby cry came from

13:43

the creature's mouth. As

13:57

if trying to pick up my trail

13:59

started making its way towards me with a

14:01

slow, awkward gate. I

14:04

tried to slow my breathing to go quiet.

14:07

that's when it slowed down again and turned

14:09

its head. Pointed

14:12

ears were sticking straight up until

14:14

I took a step away from and broke a

14:17

twig. That's

14:26

when those ears tucked right back and

14:28

it started lunging toward me again. I

14:31

just in as fast as I could back to the trailhead this

14:33

time without looking back at all.

14:35

I can honestly say that if I

14:37

weren't in the shape I'm in now,

14:39

That thing would have been able to catch me.

14:41

I didn't even think about pulling out my phone until

14:43

I was safely in my car with the doors

14:45

locked. That's what I called you.

14:48

Our first conversation occurred

14:50

as I was leaving the parking lot by

14:52

the trailhead. I'm

14:55

certain there's no baby out there, but I

14:57

did find that woman's body. Looking

15:00

back on the whole experience now, I'm

15:02

event I was being lured out there.

15:04

That thing has learned how to mimic the

15:06

sound of baby cries.

15:09

And I just wonder if the body I found had

15:11

been lured there just as I was.

15:14

I'll tell you one thing for

15:16

certain. I will never be jogging

15:18

that trail again. In

15:24

addition to this statement, there was an attached

15:26

handwritten note, paper clip to the

15:28

initial report. The note

15:30

says, I took a small

15:32

crew of four deputies around eleven

15:34

PM, calling in a couple of people who had that

15:36

night off. We

15:38

considered this high priority due to the

15:40

potential of an abandoned baby being involved.

15:43

Mister Thorpe's description of the location

15:45

was accurate. We were able to see

15:47

muddy footprints assuming they were mister

15:49

Thorps entering the paved portion

15:51

of the trail close to the five mile

15:53

marker. We followed his shoe

15:55

prints until we found an additional set of

15:57

prints. What looked

16:00

like human handprints with claw

16:02

like impressions at the fingertips were

16:04

facing the trail. In addition,

16:07

footprints from bare feet accompanied

16:09

each set of the handprints. The

16:11

footprints were unlike anything I'd ever

16:13

seen. There were five

16:15

toes, splayed out wider at the

16:17

tow end, but the

16:19

foot was longer and narrower

16:21

than the average human foot.

16:24

All four deputies observed these prints,

16:26

but no one could think of what kind of animal

16:28

or person they could potentially

16:30

belong to. We

16:32

found the thicket of trees and the cave entrance

16:34

by following these prints. It was

16:37

dark and there was no fog when we

16:39

arrived. We did not find

16:41

any evidence of a body and

16:43

no prints found inside the cave. However,

16:46

we did find a woman's watch with a pink

16:48

wristband about twelve feet inside the

16:50

mouth of the cave. There

16:52

was no battery power, but we send it down

16:54

to the guys in tech who will attempt to charge

16:56

it, and they'll let us know what they find.

16:58

On a personal note, I've only been with

17:01

this department for about two years. One

17:03

of the more seasoned deputies that

17:05

had been out with us on the search party cautioned

17:07

us about the amount of detail to include

17:09

in our official reports, so we

17:12

made the appropriate amendments. These

17:15

details we believed would make people question the

17:17

validity of the story and

17:19

might hinder any search efforts brought

17:21

forward as is. I

17:24

believe mister Thorpe was telling the truth and the

17:26

evidence we found substantiates his

17:29

claims, so I am documenting

17:31

this unofficial in case I ever need

17:33

to refer back to this. Mister

17:35

Thorpe has no arrest record

17:37

and not so much as a parking ticket that

17:39

we know about. He pays his

17:41

appears to be a good husband and father and

17:44

has a prominent job at a local

17:46

business. I can't provide

17:48

a motive for deception and

17:50

he genuinely seemed frightened. Please

18:05

consider reaching out to me if you have any pertinent

18:08

information regarding this case, either by

18:10

social media or email. You

18:12

can direct message me on Twitter and Instagram

18:15

at storage papers. You

18:17

may also email me at the storage

18:19

18:21

com. Or you can even leave a voice

18:23

mail at anchor dot f m

18:25

18:28

Make sure to reference episode one, baby

18:31

cries in your subject line.

18:33

I will be filing any additional

18:35

information received in an organized manner

18:37

and will provide updates on the show

18:39

to these cases as often as

18:42

possible. If you believe

18:44

you've witnessed something truly unexplainable

18:46

yourself and would like to share your story,

18:49

I'd be glad to add it to these archives.

18:51

You just never know whether or not

18:53

your testimony can help or if

18:55

it can corroborate another statement

18:57

within these files. Thank

19:04

you so much for listening to this

19:06

first episode of the storage papers.

19:08

I'll be back in two weeks

19:10

with additional documentation to

19:13

review.
