Very engaging, bingeable story. Some of the best, intense interviews in a podcast I've heard
I can't find the words for how impactful this podcast is. It's so brilliantly made, and is a very impartial look upon a very complex and difficult subject. What I ended up listening to was nothing like what I imagined this podcast to be. Josh Baker is quite possibly one my of my new favourite journalists, and the lengths and danger he went to in order to report this story is admirable. I have my own opinions about what happened, but all I'll say for now is I just hope those directly affected by this story are able to heal and recover from this.
Saw this being highly recommended on reddit, but I have no interest in hearing about ISIS so I avoided it for awhile. But that's the mark of truly good storytelling-- any subject can be fascinating. I loved both seasons of this. I was nervous about hearing graphic details involving children, but it wasn't like that. Highly recommended even for people like me, who don't want to hear about ISIS. It's really about the American woman and the British woman and their stories. Listen to both seasons.
great listen and reporting- bone chilling
Brilliant, informative and impartially told by a talented journalist. One of the best podcasts I’ve listened too.
I am still listening, but had to rate it mid-way! so good.
This really was an excellent podcast surrounding a topic I can't believe I didn't know about. The journalist, Josh Baker, is charming, unbiased, and reminds me of a Jon Ronson or a little more serious Louis Theroux. He is extremely dedicated to his work and goes to crazy places (like war torn Syria and Kurdish prisons) to get the story. By the end, you're left with answers, sort of, but still aren't entirely sure what to believe and how to feel about it.
