Welcome to 15 Minutes in the
0:02
Word with New York Times bestselling
0:04
author Joyce Meyer. On
0:06
today's program, Joyce will be teaching from her
0:08
study on the book of Colossians. Being
0:11
a Christian doesn't offer us a
0:13
life without problems, but God promises
0:15
us something even better, His grace
0:17
and strength to rise above our
0:19
circumstances. The book of Colossians
0:22
is truly a manual for understanding everything
0:24
we have in Christ. In this unique
0:26
Bible study, Joyce will show us how
0:28
Colossians is our guide to becoming more
0:30
like him and reflecting his love, joy,
0:32
peace, and stability to the world
0:34
around us. Now here's Joyce with
0:36
the study on the book of Colossians. If
0:40
you go to church often or
0:42
if you listen to teaching
0:44
often, read books often, watch my
0:46
program often, you're likely
0:48
to hear some of the same stuff
0:51
over and over and over. And
0:54
actually, I'm going to start
0:56
this afternoon by backing up into
0:58
some of the last things I
1:00
was saying, and I'm
1:02
going to say them over. Well,
1:05
why is it important to hear the
1:07
same stuff over and over? Well, the
1:10
apostle Paul actually said, I don't ever
1:12
get tired of telling you the same
1:14
stuff over and over and over. You know why?
1:16
Because we need it. And
1:19
just because you got it underlined in your Bible doesn't
1:21
mean it's working in your life yet. So
1:24
I had a little experience
1:26
last week that just brought this
1:28
to my mind fresh. I was
1:30
listening to a podcast while I was
1:32
putting on my makeup in the morning and
1:34
I was enjoying it. It was about
1:36
words that can change your life. There
1:38
was just a handful of them, but words that
1:40
can change your life. And
1:43
the first teaching I had
1:45
missed, so this was the
1:47
second one. And he mentioned that in
1:49
the first teaching he talked about the word no.
1:53
how important it is to
1:55
say no at the right
1:57
time, but that we shouldn't
1:59
always give people a
2:01
no with our attitude and our
2:03
mannerisms every time we see them.
2:06
That people are looking for
2:08
acceptance and approval. And
2:11
then he started to deal with the word yes, and
2:13
that, you know, there's
2:15
nothing that a person or
2:17
particular a child loves
2:19
to hear better than yes.
2:22
Doesn't that feel good when
2:24
you when you do something or
2:26
you see mom and dad
2:28
or The child brings home that report
2:30
card or whatever it is and
2:33
they get from their parents. Yes We
2:35
all want that approval. So
2:37
I really liked it and course when
2:39
I hear teaching I'm always thinking about what I
2:41
might be able to do with it and you know
2:43
How I might work that into some
2:46
of my teachings and so You
2:48
know, I thought I had it. Yes. I understand
2:50
that yes gonna give people a yes
2:53
So I went out to do
2:55
my morning walk and I have
2:57
a daughter who lives pretty
2:59
close to me and
3:01
so she actually
3:03
had two of my grandchildren
3:06
with her and She was
3:08
coming through the subdivision. She
3:10
decided to come through our subdivision to get
3:12
to her house that day because there was a friend
3:14
of hers building a house in there and she wanted
3:16
to see it so They
3:18
honked the horn. I was like, oh, you
3:20
know roll down the window
3:22
my granddaughter Abigail is on
3:24
the side where I'm standing
3:27
and Hi grandma big smile
3:29
on her face and
3:31
she was eating french
3:33
fries From a fast food
3:35
restaurant. So the first
3:37
thing I said to her
3:39
was Abigail Do you have any idea how
3:41
much junk is in those french fries? There
3:46
are 22 other ingredients
3:49
in those french
3:51
fries other than potatoes
3:53
And she said
3:55
grandma And I could tell
3:57
that she was disappointed
3:59
well, I said well, I'm just trying
4:01
to help you We know it's amazing
4:03
how many times we think
4:05
we're trying to help somebody
4:07
Come on now, but really what
4:10
we're doing is giving
4:12
them disapproval or
4:14
trying to help them with something they really don't want
4:16
to be helped with. And she
4:18
tends to be a little bit underweight.
4:20
And she said, okay, everybody's always telling me
4:22
to gain weight. Now I'm
4:24
eating these fattening french fries so I can
4:26
gain weight. And so,
4:29
you know, we went on, ended up making a joke out
4:31
of it. And, you know, as
4:33
far as I think everything was
4:35
fine, but I realized
4:37
later, okay, I heard the podcast.
4:40
I agreed with it. I
4:43
walked right out of my house. Come
4:46
on now. Had an opportunity to apply
4:48
it. But
4:51
I walked right out and gave her a
4:53
no instead of
4:55
a yes with my attitude. So
4:58
you know what that tells me? I need
5:00
to go back and listen to that thing again. And
5:03
maybe again. And
5:05
you know what we have to do a lot of times after
5:07
we hear something? We have to
5:09
practice. And so I
5:12
want to make sure that I
5:14
tell you that God will provide
5:16
you with opportunities to practice what
5:18
you've heard this weekend. Starting
5:20
with last night
5:22
about loving people that are
5:24
hard to love. Amen.
5:27
And then going on with some of
5:29
the things that I shared this morning that
5:31
we're going to continue with this afternoon. We
5:34
don't know anything until we're
5:36
doing it. And then
5:38
even after we're doing it, We
5:41
still have to have refresher courses. So
5:45
you know what? If you're going to
5:47
be a victorious Christian, you just got to settle
5:49
down and say, I'm going to be a lifetime
5:51
learner. It doesn't matter to me
5:53
how many times I hear this over and over and
5:55
over. Come on, tell me again. Tell me
5:57
again because I need it all
5:59
the time. So Father,
6:01
we thank you for refreshing us
6:04
again and helping us
6:06
again. I stopped
6:08
this morning somewhere around
6:10
Colossians 1, 13 and 14.
6:13
And I want to
6:15
go right back there
6:17
and talk just a little bit
6:20
more about the things that we
6:22
already have that are
6:24
already ours and helping
6:26
us move past,
6:28
continuing to pray for
6:30
things or even sometimes
6:33
beg for things. that we
6:35
already have. Let's take, for example, the
6:37
forgiveness of sins. Jesus
6:39
has already died for all of
6:41
our sins. It's
6:43
already a done thing. He
6:46
died for everything we ever did
6:48
wrong and everything we ever
6:50
will do wrong. Sin
6:52
actually is taken care
6:55
of, is not a
6:57
problem. All we
6:59
need to do is, number one, believe we're
7:01
dead to sin, which is something the Bible
7:03
tells us that we have in him. The
7:05
more you believe you're dead to sin, the
7:07
more you're going to realize that there's a part of
7:09
you that really doesn't want anything to do with
7:11
sin. And I think a lot
7:13
of times we spend a lot of time fighting with something,
7:15
trying, trying not to
7:17
do it. And we just need to really learn
7:20
to say, I'm dead to that. The
7:22
real me, the born again me, doesn't even
7:24
want to do that. So flesh just
7:26
shut up because you're not going to get
7:28
your way. Instead
7:31
of saying, I'm so tempted. I'm so
7:33
tempted. It's just so hard. I'm just
7:35
so tempted. You're
7:38
never going to manifest anything and neither
7:40
am I if I don't believe
7:42
that I have it. I
7:45
want to spend this afternoon
7:47
talking to you more about what's already
7:49
yours. Hopefully
7:51
getting you to believe that you have
7:53
it even though you may not
7:55
see it yet Faith is what the
7:58
title deed to the things
8:00
That are ours in Christ even
8:02
though we don't see them
8:04
yet We have the title deed
8:06
of the promises of God
8:08
and by faith we believe that
8:10
what God says about us
8:12
is true And not only do
8:14
we believe it we learn to
8:16
say it we learn to
8:18
confess it so My
8:20
sins are forgiven when I do something
8:22
wrong. I need
8:24
to confess my sins. I
8:27
need to repent. I
8:29
need to talk about my sin
8:31
to God, not because He
8:33
doesn't already know it, or
8:36
not even really because it's not
8:38
already taken care of, but because
8:40
I need to get it out of me. I
8:43
need to own up to it. I
8:45
need to take responsibility for it, but
8:47
then guess what? I don't have to
8:49
beg God. to forgive me. All
8:51
I need to do is say, God, I admit
8:53
that I did this. I don't want to
8:55
do this. I turn away from sin. I'm sorry.
8:57
And now I don't
9:00
suggest that you pray. So
9:02
please forgive me for my sin
9:04
because he's already done that. I'll
9:06
tell you a more refreshing way to
9:08
pray. So Father, I receive your
9:10
forgiveness right now. Because you see, I
9:12
think a lot of times we
9:14
spend a lot of time begging
9:17
for God to give us stuff
9:19
that's already ours. And what we
9:21
need to do is say, I
9:23
receive that from you as a
9:25
gift that you have already provided.
9:27
I take it in its mind.
9:29
Does anybody understand this? No,
9:31
I'm not saying that if you ask God to give you
9:33
something you've already got that he's going to say, oh, no,
9:36
I can't answer that prayer because you prayed the wrong way.
9:38
But I'm trying to give you a little fresher
9:41
way to look at things, because
9:43
I think we spend a lot of
9:45
time trying to get something that really
9:47
we need to do more receiving.
9:50
To get means to obtain by struggle and
9:53
effort. To receive means to
9:55
take in what's being offered. To
9:58
become like a receptacle and take
10:00
in what's being offered. We say
10:02
to people, did you get saved? Did
10:05
you get the Holy Ghost? Did you get
10:07
your healing? Did you get
10:09
your breakthrough? Did you get your sins forgiven?
10:12
And all that is just not biblical. The
10:14
Bible says to as many as
10:16
received him gave he power to
10:19
become the sons of God. Have
10:21
you received the Holy Ghost? So
10:23
take a little time in your
10:25
time with God and everything that
10:27
you ask him for,
10:29
take a moment and just
10:31
receive it. I
10:34
receive forgiveness. I
10:37
receive the power of the Holy
10:39
Spirit. I receive
10:41
the deliverance that's
10:43
already mine. I
10:46
receive your righteousness that
10:48
you've given me through Jesus
10:50
Christ. I receive
10:52
it's mine. Everybody say
10:54
it's mine. So
10:56
just a few things. I
10:58
love this one. Luke 10,
11:01
19, behold, I have given you
11:03
authority and power. Not
11:06
I will give it to you. I have given it to
11:08
you. So how about if you say
11:10
this, I have authority. No,
11:14
you got to say it like you it. And
11:18
I have power. Now,
11:22
you know, the enemy has power, but he doesn't
11:24
have authority. Jesus
11:27
stripped him of that. So
11:29
the only authority that he has
11:31
is what we give him and
11:33
most of the time we give
11:35
it to him through unbelief We have
11:37
authority and power over the
11:39
enemy. I have
11:41
given you Not I
11:43
will give you I
11:46
have given you say
11:48
it again say I'm
11:50
strong I Have authority
11:52
I Have power I
11:55
am forgiven You're
12:04
gonna start to feel better now try walking around
12:06
talking like that all
12:08
day I Can do
12:10
whatever I need to do
12:12
Through Christ we need to
12:14
get rid of all the weak thinking
12:16
and start thinking strong Because if
12:18
we think strong, we're gonna be
12:20
strong. I
12:23
Have given you authority and power To
12:26
trample upon serpents and scorpions, and
12:28
I've given you physical and mental
12:30
strength and ability over all the
12:32
power that the enemy possesses,
12:34
and nothing shall in
12:36
any way harm you. So
12:39
that doesn't say that nothing can come
12:41
against you, but it says that nothing
12:43
has any ability to
12:46
permanently harm you. Romans
12:48
6, 2 says, how can
12:50
we who died to sin live in it any longer? I'm
12:54
not going to continue in sin. You're not going
12:56
to continue in sin because we're dead to
12:58
sin. That's not really what I want to
13:00
do. I don't want to be jealous. I don't
13:02
want to be greedy. That's not what I
13:04
want. The real me, the born
13:06
again me is dead to that. And
13:08
through the power of the Holy Spirit, my
13:10
flesh is going to come under control. Thanks
13:13
for listening. Joyce's heart is to
13:16
help us develop a stronger relationship with
13:18
God through deeper study of the
13:20
Bible. Digging into the book of Colossians
13:22
is a great way to start that journey. As
13:25
we begin looking into God's Word, there
13:27
are many lessons to discover and inspiration
13:29
for us to love Jesus and walk
13:31
with Him even more closely than we
13:33
already do. Remember, as Christians,
13:35
we have everything we need to live a
13:37
life of peace, joy, and growth, and it's
13:39
all found in Him. For
