This program is made

0:02

possible by the partners

0:04

of Joyce Meyer Ministries. It

0:07

may even kind of

0:09

make you feel good about

0:11

yourself that you feel

0:13

terrible because of what

0:16

you've done. But that's

0:18

not what Jesus died

0:20

for. I'm Joyce Meyer and

0:22

I believe that God can

0:24

heal you everywhere you hurt.

0:29

Hi everyone, Joyce is on her

0:31

way, but first we have

0:33

something new to tell you

0:35

about. Battlefield of the Mind

0:38

is Joyce's best-selling book. And

0:40

for the first time ever,

0:42

she's dedicating an entire conference

0:44

to all God's words says

0:46

about winning those battles. It's

0:48

time to begin thinking differently.

0:50

So join Joyce and her

0:52

guests, April 24th through the

0:54

26th in beautiful Charleston, South

0:56

Carolina. Register now at Joyce

0:58

meyer.org/Battlefield Live. Well, welcome to

1:00

enjoying everyday life, and I do

1:02

hope and pray that the things I say

1:05

today will help you do that.

1:07

Because Jesus wants us to enjoy

1:09

our lives. You know, I really care

1:11

about you. I was thinking the

1:13

other day, it's interesting, the

1:15

relationship that I have with the

1:18

people I teach. I might not ever see

1:20

you, but I think there's

1:22

a spiritual connection that I

1:24

have. with the people that I have

1:26

the privilege of teaching. And so

1:28

I want you to always remember that

1:30

I love you and I care about you

1:33

and I really want you to have

1:35

the best life possible. And Jesus has

1:37

provided for us to have a really

1:40

good life. Now one of the

1:42

things that will prevent us from that

1:44

is by feeling guilty all the

1:46

time. And Jesus doesn't want us

1:48

to feel guilty all the time. He's

1:50

forgiven our sins. moved them

1:53

very far away from us. They're not

1:55

in the old covenant, they were covered,

1:57

but in the New Testament, they're removed.

2:00

yet many of us feel guilty

2:02

most of the time and sometimes

2:04

don't even know what we feel

2:07

guilty about. I know for years

2:09

I felt guilty. Matter of fact,

2:11

I always say I didn't feel

2:14

right if I didn't feel wrong.

2:16

And if you're somebody who's carrying

2:18

a load of guilt, I want

2:21

to help you today to get

2:23

rid of that and to know

2:25

that Jesus died to set you

2:27

free, not only from sin, but

2:30

from the guilt. that's attached to

2:32

sin. He forgives us, he's merciful,

2:34

and there is no condemnation to

2:37

those that are in Christ Jesus.

2:39

Now, I'm talking directly to you

2:41

today. I have you in my

2:44

heart. I want you to get

2:46

hold of this, and I hope

2:48

that it will make a change

2:50

in how you approach every day

2:53

of your life. I was abused

2:55

sexually by my father when I

2:57

was a child when I was

3:00

a child, and so... I always

3:02

felt guilty. I felt like something

3:04

was wrong with me. I felt

3:07

like I had to hide it

3:09

all the time, which I did.

3:11

And even after I got away

3:13

from home, I thought when I

3:16

left home, all my problems were

3:18

behind me. I'd left them, but

3:20

I didn't realize I'd taken them

3:23

with me in my soul. And

3:25

so let's talk about what the

3:27

Bible says about... forgiveness.

3:30

First of all, if the guilt

3:32

we feel is justified, in other

3:34

words, if we did do something

3:37

that we shouldn't have done, then

3:39

God has provided such a simple

3:41

answer. Do you know there's already

3:44

forgiveness stored up for you? When

3:46

Jesus died on the cross, all

3:48

of our sins and everybody's sins

3:51

in the past and the future

3:53

are already forgiven. All we need

3:55

to do is... admit our sins,

3:58

confess them, and repent, which means

4:00

to turn around and be willing

4:02

to go in another direction. We

4:05

can't just be sorry. We need

4:07

to make a decision with God's

4:09

help. We're going to turn from

4:12

that sin and not do it

4:14

again. And so if the guilt

4:16

is justified because we did something

4:19

wrong, then the simple thing to

4:21

do is just admit it. confess

4:23

it. And you know, I want

4:26

you to know that you can

4:28

just talk to God. That's what

4:31

prayer is, talking to him. Don't

4:33

feel like you have to be

4:35

some other kind of person or

4:38

you have to sound very spiritual

4:40

or the prayers have to be

4:42

just eloquent. Just talk to him.

4:45

Lord, I did this and I

4:47

know it's wrong and I'm very

4:49

sorry and I need your forgiveness.

4:52

and I need you to help

4:54

me not to do it again.

4:56

I purpose to turn and go

4:59

in another direction, but I'm going

5:01

to need you to help me

5:03

do that. And then we receive

5:06

God's forgiveness, and I really want

5:08

you to take hold of the

5:10

word receive today. Because I think

5:13

a lot of times we ask

5:15

God for things, but then we

5:17

rush onto something else, and we

5:20

don't really ever take the time

5:22

to receive it. Every morning in

5:24

my prayer time, I start with

5:27

God, I love you, and I

5:29

receive your love for me. And

5:31

then I take just a minute

5:34

or two, and I just sit

5:36

there and purpose to receive that

5:38

love and just remind myself, God

5:41

loves me. God loves me, and

5:43

I receive that love. Well, I

5:45

think it's the same thing we

5:48

should do when we repent of

5:50

our sins. Take just a minute

5:52

and say, I ask you for

5:55

forgiveness that I know. is already

5:57

available, and I receive that forgiveness.

6:00

Now. You know, we're always

6:02

trying to get something,

6:05

and to get means

6:07

to obtain by

6:09

struggle and effort. But

6:11

God wants us to

6:13

receive. And to receive means

6:16

to act as a receptacle

6:20

and just take in

6:22

what's being offered. God's

6:24

offering you forgiveness,

6:27

mercy, Today can be your

6:29

day to make a decision that

6:31

you're not going to live

6:34

under that burden any longer.

6:36

You know, when you carry a

6:38

burden of guilt, it's like carrying

6:40

a heavy sack on your

6:42

shoulders, and it weighs you

6:44

down everywhere you go. And

6:46

actually, I think when you're

6:48

feeling guilty, it weakens

6:51

you and actually makes it

6:53

harder for you to resist

6:55

new temptations. they come your

6:58

way. So all those years I

7:00

felt guilty and even as

7:02

I began to know the word

7:05

better and I knew there was

7:07

no condemnation in

7:09

Christ I still would feel

7:12

guilty. It was just like

7:14

a habit I had and I

7:16

remember one day I

7:18

was going shopping with

7:20

my little bag of guilt

7:23

and I was just feeling

7:25

Bad about myself like I'm no

7:27

good. I keep making mistakes and the

7:29

Lord began to speak to my heart

7:32

He said how are you going to

7:34

receive forgiveness? For this sin. How

7:36

are you going to be forgiven for

7:38

this sin? And I said well Lord

7:40

I'll just receive the forgiveness that

7:43

Jesus provided when he died

7:45

for me and then distill

7:47

small voice said and when do you

7:49

plan to do that? You know whatever

7:51

it is you're feeling guilty for

7:53

today? But if you're addicted to guilt

7:55

like I was it won't be very long

7:58

and you'll feel something else to feel guilty

8:00

about. And the Lord said to

8:02

me, well, if it's going to

8:05

be good in three or four

8:07

days, why isn't it good right

8:09

now? And he spoke in my

8:12

heart, do me a favor, receive

8:14

it now, because you're no use

8:17

to me in this condition. Wow.

8:19

That was an eye-opener for me.

8:21

Do you know that God needs

8:24

you? And he needs you to

8:26

be free? so you can do

8:28

the work in the earth that

8:31

he has called you to do.

8:33

Those of us who are born

8:36

again are called to bring reconciliation

8:38

between God and man to those

8:40

who are lost. Rather, we do

8:43

that in word or through our

8:45

behavior, we're called to help bring

8:48

other people into a relationship with

8:50

Christ. And so, open your heart

8:52

today and receive. receive. He died

8:55

for you and provided the freedom

8:57

from guilt and all you need

8:59

to do is receive it. It's

9:02

just, it's such good news it's

9:04

almost hard to believe. There is

9:07

nothing that you cannot be forgiven

9:09

for. You might say, well, wait

9:11

a minute Joyce, the Bible talks

9:14

about an unpardonable sin. And it

9:16

says if you blaspheme the Holy

9:18

Spirit, it's a sin that cannot

9:21

be forgiven. But if you had

9:23

done that, you wouldn't be watching

9:26

this program now. Somebody who does

9:28

that is somebody who had a

9:30

great relationship with God purposely walked

9:33

away from it and no longer

9:35

want anything to do with him.

9:38

That's not you. If you're watching

9:40

this program, you care, you have

9:42

not committed the unpardonable sin. And

9:45

I don't want you to believe

9:47

the lies of Satan anymore. You

9:49

know, we do have an enemy,

9:52

the devil, Satan, Lucifer, Lucifer. And

9:55

his favorite way to hurt

9:57

us is to deceive. us

9:59

and he does that through

10:01

lies that don't agree with

10:03

the word of God and

10:05

if we believe those lies

10:07

they become our reality. Think

10:09

about that. You can believe

10:11

something that's totally untrue but

10:13

it becomes your reality if

10:15

you believe it. If we

10:17

believe that God is faithful

10:20

to his promise to forgive,

10:22

well we ask him to

10:24

and we remember that he

10:26

moves that sin as far

10:28

as the East, is from

10:30

the West, and remembers them

10:32

no more. If we keep

10:34

talking to God about the

10:36

same sin, we're talking to

10:38

him about something that he's

10:40

already forgotten. Listen to Isaiah

10:42

53, 4, and 5. Surely

10:44

he has borne our griefs,

10:46

sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses, and

10:48

carried our sorrows and the

10:50

pains of our punishment. Yet

10:52

we ignorantly considered him stricken,

10:54

smitten, and afflicted by God

10:56

as if was leprosy. When

10:58

he hung on that cross

11:00

and the people saw how

11:02

he were suffering, they assumed

11:04

that he had done some

11:06

terrible thing, but actually he

11:08

was taking our sin. The

11:10

Bible actually says he became

11:12

sin. And I cannot even

11:14

imagine how horrible that must

11:16

have been, because he was

11:18

so holy. He became sin

11:20

and... He was so

11:22

disfigured by that that he

11:24

was unrecognizable. But he was also,

11:27

even though he died for

11:29

our sins, he was raised from

11:31

the dead and is alive right

11:34

now. And he wants to do

11:36

great things in your life through

11:38

you and far you. But you

11:41

need to get rid of this

11:43

feeling guilty all the time and

11:46

receive the blessings that Jesus died

11:48

to give you. Now listen, he

11:51

was wounded for our transgressions. He

11:53

was bruised for our guilt

11:55

and inequities. Our guilt and inequities.

11:57

Come on. You got to

11:59

get that. Our guilt and inequities,

12:02

if you believe that God

12:04

forgave your sin, then what is

12:06

there to feel guilty about?

12:08

Because when he forgives your sin,

12:11

he removes it, so it's

12:13

not there anymore. So there's nothing

12:15

to feel guilty about. And with

12:17

the stripes that wounded him, we

12:20

are healed and made whole. This

12:22

is for you. and with

12:24

the stripes that wounded him we

12:27

you are healed and made

12:29

whole. God loves you so much

12:31

and he wants you to

12:33

have a wonderful life but you

12:35

have to press into that

12:37

life because we do have an

12:40

enemy that will do anything

12:42

he can to try to keep

12:44

us from having it. Paul said

12:47

the Apostle Paul said and it's

12:49

recorded in Philippians that... He was

12:51

pressing toward taking hold of the

12:54

thing that Christ died to take

12:56

hold of him. So Jesus

12:58

died and took hold of us

13:01

and set us free. It's

13:03

already done. But we have to

13:05

receive it. There's no good

13:07

at all if we don't receive

13:09

it. I don't like it

13:11

when I try to give somebody

13:14

something. They're like, oh no,

13:16

no, no, you don't have to

13:18

do that. And they won't receive

13:21

it. It's like, it's just a

13:23

terrible feeling. When I give somebody

13:25

something, I want them to

13:28

simply receive it and just say,

13:30

thank you, I appreciate it,

13:32

and go on about their business.

13:34

I don't want them to,

13:36

oh no, I don't have to,

13:39

you don't have to do

13:41

that, I don't deserve that. Oh

13:43

no, no, no, no. It's,

13:45

it must be the same way

13:48

God feels, but we won't receive

13:50

from him. He is very generous.

13:53

But his generosity is stopped

13:55

if we don't receive it.

13:57

Hebrews 812. For I will

14:00

be merciful toward their iniquities,

14:02

and I will remember their

14:04

sin no more. That's so

14:06

good. Can you get a

14:08

hold of that today? Maybe

14:10

you've never, maybe you've heard

14:12

this, but you've never received

14:14

it as your own. He

14:16

forgives your iniquities, and he

14:18

remembers your sin no more.

14:20

So when you keep going

14:22

back to God asking him

14:25

to forgive you for the

14:27

same thing over and over,

14:29

He really doesn't even know

14:31

what you're talking about, if

14:33

you believe this scripture. And

14:35

in Psalm 10312, as far

14:37

as the East is from

14:39

the West, so far has

14:41

he removed our transgressions from

14:43

us. Well, how far is

14:45

the East from the West?

14:47

Well, if you sit and

14:50

think about it, it's like

14:52

it goes off into infinity

14:54

in either direction. It's so

14:56

far that you could never

14:58

find it again. So, sin

15:00

has been dealt with. We

15:02

all have weaknesses, even though

15:04

we're born again. We still

15:06

do sin and make mistakes.

15:08

But we're not sinners. We

15:10

have a new nature. We

15:12

are the righteousness of God

15:14

in Christ. So we are

15:17

righteous people who sin and

15:19

can be forgiven. We are

15:21

not sinners who can do

15:23

nothing but sin over and

15:25

over again and have to

15:27

feel guilty. In the world,

15:29

if somebody has that guilt,

15:31

because it's tormenting, They may

15:33

turn to alcohol drugs or

15:35

other addictions to forget the

15:37

feeling of guilt. It might

15:39

be gambling or there might

15:42

be a shopaholic. They might

15:44

spend all their money, all

15:46

their time and money in

15:48

the stores buying things to

15:50

forget how they feel. Because

15:52

that guilt can just drag

15:54

you down and be horrible.

15:56

And you know, many people

15:58

that have this terrible burden

16:00

of guilt. also end up

16:02

with mental illness. it can

16:04

literally drive you crazy. I

16:07

went to a mental home,

16:09

a state-run mental home, one

16:11

time years ago, just to

16:13

minister, was with a group

16:15

of people, and I remember

16:17

people shuffling around, many of

16:19

them had crosses around their

16:21

neck, and I heard this

16:23

one woman saying, it's all

16:25

my fault. It's all my

16:27

fault. It's all my fault.

16:29

And my own mother, who

16:32

knew what my dad was

16:34

doing to me, because I

16:36

told her once and she

16:38

caught him actually in the

16:40

act of doing it, but

16:42

she didn't do anything about

16:44

it. She hid from it,

16:46

she walked away, and just

16:48

never said a thing to

16:50

him or to me about

16:52

it. And my mother eventually

16:54

had a nervous breakdown. back

16:57

when she had them, they

16:59

were giving people shock treatments

17:01

to erase their memory, and

17:03

she had shock treatments for

17:05

three years, and she was

17:07

just in terrible condition, all

17:09

because of that guilt. God,

17:11

now listen to me, God

17:13

does not want you to

17:15

feel guilty. If you have

17:17

repented of your sin, God

17:19

does not want you to

17:22

feel guilty. Now, it may

17:24

seem religious to feel guilty.

17:27

It might even kind of make

17:29

you feel good about yourself that

17:31

you feel terrible because of what

17:33

you've done. But that's not what

17:35

Jesus died for. If you want

17:38

to take hold of what he

17:40

died for, then when you make

17:42

a mistake, when you sin, you

17:44

repent, you turn away from it,

17:47

you want to go in a

17:49

whole new direction. We want to

17:51

live to please God. So naturally,

17:53

when we fail in that. We're

17:56

going to feel bad, but as soon

17:58

as you receive that from those feelings

18:01

should go away and you should begin

18:03

to enjoy your life and I know

18:05

it seems like well that's just not

18:07

right it's not fair I should at

18:10

least feel bad for a while but

18:12

I'm either gonna believe what

18:14

religion teaches me are I'm going

18:16

to believe what the word of God

18:18

says and it says there is no

18:20

more condemnation for those

18:23

who are in Christ in Roman

18:25

seven beginning in about verse 15

18:27

There's a discourse from Paul

18:30

where he says the thing that I

18:32

want to do I Don't do and the

18:34

thing I don't want to do that's

18:36

what I find myself ever doing

18:38

And further down in the

18:40

chapter. He says oh wretched man that

18:43

I am who will deliver me from

18:45

this body of death and Then

18:47

oh, thank God. He will through Jesus

18:49

Christ Romans 8 1. There is therefore

18:52

now no condemnation who for those

18:54

who are in Christ Jesus. So

18:56

Paul's saying, even while I'm waiting

18:59

for God to deliver me from

19:01

this, because I want to be

19:03

delivered, I want to be free,

19:06

I want to do the right

19:08

thing, there's no condemnation because God

19:10

sees our heart and that's so

19:12

good. God doesn't look at us

19:14

like man does. He sees our heart.

19:17

I tell a story that when I

19:19

first started teaching the Bible, I

19:21

was teaching a Bible study in

19:23

my... home and everybody sat around

19:26

in the floor, there were about

19:28

25 people. And when I started

19:30

teaching, I started teaching

19:32

in short shorts, smoking cigarettes

19:34

and blowing smoke in

19:36

everybody's face all the time. Now,

19:39

you know, if you're a really religious

19:41

person, you would say, well, that's just

19:43

not possible. God wouldn't use somebody

19:46

like that. Well, you know what?

19:48

He did use me, and he knew

19:50

that I wanted to do what was right.

19:52

And really at the time, I didn't

19:55

understand that I shouldn't be

19:57

dressing like that. I didn't understand

19:59

that... Smoking was something that

20:01

I shouldn't be doing. I didn't

20:03

understand it. But he not only

20:05

saw me that day, he saw

20:08

me this day, and he knew

20:10

if he would work with me

20:12

that I would stop doing those

20:14

things and become more and more

20:16

and more obedient to him. And

20:18

you know, if you're taking the

20:20

time to watch this program today,

20:22

then I have to believe that

20:24

you have that same kind of

20:26

heart. You want to do what's

20:28

right, and God sees your want

20:31

to. Let go of the guilt.

20:33

the condemnation and take hold of

20:35

the freedom that is yours in

20:37

Christ Jesus. Do you know that

20:39

you can enjoy this day instead

20:41

of feeling miserable all day because

20:43

you feel guilty and condemned? Philippians

20:45

312 through 14, Paul said, he

20:47

was pressing toward that Mark a

20:49

perfection to be turned into the

20:51

image of Christ. And he said,

20:54

now I have not attained this.

20:57

or have already been made

20:59

perfect, but I press on

21:01

to lay hold of and

21:03

grasp and make my own

21:05

that for which Christ Jesus

21:07

the Messiah has laid hold

21:09

of me and made me

21:11

his own. And guilt will

21:13

hold you back from that.

21:15

I don't consider, brethren, that

21:17

I've captured and made it

21:19

my own, but one thing

21:21

I do is my one

21:23

aspiration, forgetting what lies behind

21:25

and straining forward to what

21:27

lies ahead. Are you feeling

21:29

guilty about something you did

21:31

20 years ago? 10 years

21:33

ago? 5 years ago? Or

21:35

this morning? Let it go.

21:37

Ask for that forgiveness. Take

21:39

the time to receive it

21:41

and let it go. And

21:43

you say, well Joyce, even

21:45

after hearing everything you've said,

21:47

what if I still feel

21:49

guilty? Well, are you going

21:51

to believe your feelings? Are

21:53

you going to believe the

21:55

God of the Bible? Are

21:57

you going to believe his

21:59

word? or how you feel.

22:01

And you know, this is

22:03

a big area that we

22:05

need to talk about further.

22:07

at some point that we

22:09

so so so so many

22:11

people are deceived by their

22:13

own feelings I can't tell

22:15

you how often people tell

22:17

me how they feel well

22:19

I feel this and I

22:21

don't feel that and I

22:23

feel like nobody loves me

22:25

and I feel like God's

22:27

forgotten me but what does

22:29

the Bible say if you

22:31

still feel guilty the Bible

22:33

says that you're not so

22:35

talk up for yourself a

22:37

little bit It's amazing if

22:39

you speak out loud the

22:41

word of God, how it

22:43

will affect and change your

22:45

life. So when you feel

22:47

guilty, even after you've repented,

22:49

just say, I feel guilty,

22:51

but I'm not because God

22:53

has forgiven me. I feel

22:55

guilty, but I'm not guilty

22:57

because God has forgiven me.

22:59

That's what I did. And

23:01

in the beginning, I might

23:03

have to say it 20

23:05

times a day. But then

23:07

the more I said it,

23:09

the more it got on

23:11

the inside of me, and

23:14

I began to believe it.

23:16

And when we believe the

23:18

promises of God, they become

23:20

a reality to us. To

23:22

believe means to receive and

23:24

to receive means to believe.

23:26

So when you really believe

23:28

it, you receive it, and

23:30

it becomes your own. Forgiveness

23:32

is only available because of

23:34

God's great mercy. How wonderful

23:36

is his mercy? Compassion and

23:38

forgiveness shown to someone when

23:40

it is in their power

23:42

to punish them. That's what

23:44

mercy is. God could punish

23:46

us for our sins, but

23:48

he chooses instead to show

23:50

us mercy and to forgive

23:52

us. He wants to be

23:54

in relationship with us, so

23:56

there can be nothing between

23:58

us. Nothing at all. The

24:00

minute the Holy Spirit convicts

24:02

you of sin, that's the

24:04

moment that you repent. And

24:06

that's the moment that you

24:08

receive and you no longer

24:10

feel guilty. Proverbs 2813, whoever

24:12

conceals his transgressions, will not

24:14

prosper. But he who confesses

24:16

and forsakes them will obtain

24:18

mercy. Lamentations, three, it is

24:20

because of the Lord's mercy

24:22

and loving kindness that we

24:24

are not consumed, because his

24:26

tender compassion's fail not. As

24:29

we get ready to close

24:31

today, I want to remind

24:33

you that mercy is available

24:35

for you, forgiveness is available

24:37

for you, freedom from guilt

24:39

and condemnation is available for

24:41

you. And I pray right

24:43

now that you will receive

24:45

them, and this will be

24:47

the end of the guilt,

24:49

the burden of guilt that

24:51

you are accustomed to carrying

24:53

around. Today I call you

24:55

free. delivered and not guilty

24:57

in Jesus' name. None of

24:59

us get through life without

25:01

facing challenges. Problems are unavoidable.

25:03

But where should we look

25:05

for answers? How do we

25:07

navigate the difficulties life throws

25:09

in our path? It took

25:12

me many years of my

25:14

life, trying many different things.

25:16

I had a dysfunctional life

25:18

due to abuse I experienced,

25:20

but it didn't define me.

25:22

God has healed me. He's

25:24

healed my pain through the

25:26

power of his word. It

25:28

is my answer. Let me
