1:19

1:21

in for Kimberly Adams. Thank you

1:23

everyone for joining us, it is

1:25

Thursday, March 27th. News today, smiles at

1:28

the bottom, although it's not a smile,

1:30

smile, it's, are you kidding me, smile?

1:32

I'm gonna pile on yours, and we

1:34

will start though, as we usually do

1:37

with the news, you get to go

1:39

first. All right, I will go first, okay,

1:41

so. I was on the show yesterday

1:43

and we mentioned this but didn't really

1:45

get into it. So this week, you

1:47

know, I've been following the story of

1:49

the Turkish student at Tufts, right, who

1:52

was detained by DHS. All right, wait,

1:54

hold on. You can't just say detained.

1:56

She was stopped on a street, right,

1:59

and taken away. by unidentified people

2:01

right like a secret freaking

2:03

police okay go ahead it's I mean

2:05

no you're right I was just about

2:08

to say that like the video which

2:10

obviously you saw no no it's I

2:12

mean that video is exactly you know

2:15

there's security footage of what happened and

2:17

it's like five or six officers in

2:19

plain clothes who are masked forcibly you

2:22

know they take her phone they take

2:24

her backpack she just to give

2:26

some context I hope I'm not

2:28

butcher her name it's Romesa, Ustirk,

2:30

she's a 30 year old doctoral

2:33

student from Turkey, she's a full

2:35

bright scholar doing a PhD in,

2:37

I think like child study.

2:39

On a valid F1 student visa.

2:41

Yes, yes, here legally. And yeah,

2:44

these, this video is very chilling.

2:46

She was on her way, I

2:48

believe, to an if dog, so

2:50

it's Ramadan, so she's going to

2:52

break her fast with some friends.

2:54

And you know, it. It looks like

2:56

a kidnapping. There's someone even in the

2:58

video saying is this is she being

3:01

kidnapped Yeah, I you should if you

3:03

haven't seen the video. I would highly recommend

3:05

it It's super disturbing. It's disturbing.

3:07

It's disturbing, but I think it's

3:09

important to watch and You know,

3:12

it's the latest right y'all have

3:14

talked about this on the show. It's the

3:16

latest in a series of arrests of arrest

3:18

of students who are not

3:20

accused of any crime, but

3:22

have been involved in Pro

3:24

Palestinianine activism right And it's interesting, this

3:26

student in particular, her friends say

3:29

she wasn't even really that involved.

3:31

She recently wrote an op-ed in

3:33

the student newspaper criticizing the university's

3:36

response to Israel's attacks. It was

3:38

like a year ago that she wrote this by the way.

3:40

Yeah, and she was like one of many people

3:42

who wrote this op-ed. And I think like there

3:44

was one article I saw. like someone said,

3:47

one of her friends that she, like the

3:49

only thing she's organized is a Thanksgiving potluck.

3:51

And you know, DHS, again, they say

3:53

that they arrested her because she was

3:55

involved in activities in support of Hamas,

3:58

but didn't provide any evidence. of

4:00

that. But even so, like, the

4:02

thing I, the point I want

4:04

to make is that, well, there

4:06

are a couple points. The administration

4:08

has consistently framed all pro-Palestinian activists

4:11

as Hamas supporters and often as

4:13

anti-Semitic, which is just wrong in

4:15

a dangerous conflation. And say a

4:17

protester did, I don't know, did

4:19

express some sympathy or support. Like

4:21

that expression is protected by the

4:24

First Amendment. This is a pretty

4:26

flagrant crackdown of free speech. And... You

4:28

know, it's just the administration

4:31

using immigration enforcement to

4:33

target individuals for their

4:35

political views, their alleged political

4:37

views. And it's an escalation, right?

4:40

Like we've seen in the last two

4:42

years students have been docs, they've

4:44

been banned, they've been fired

4:46

for their involvement protests, and

4:48

now they're being physically taken.

4:50

And I think you even said this the

4:53

last time you all talked about Mahmoud

4:55

Khalil getting... taken that like yeah

4:57

this is an important story on its

4:59

own but it makes it so that all

5:01

of our free speech rights are at risk absolutely

5:04

absolutely if they can come for

5:06

these folks they can come for all

5:08

of us so here's my addendum

5:10

to your news item yes secretary

5:12

state Marco Rubio said today about this

5:14

case this is a quote We revoked,

5:17

so let's remember, she was in

5:19

this country validly on a valid

5:21

F1 student visa, right? She was fulfilling

5:23

the conditions, which is being enrolled

5:25

full-time in school, which she was

5:27

at Tufts. We revoked her visa, Rubio

5:29

said, once you've lost your visa, you're

5:32

no longer legally in the United

5:34

States. So you know what an oraboras

5:36

is, right? The snake that eats its

5:38

own tail. So this is that, right?

5:40

They have taken this woman, literally off

5:42

the streets. of Mexico, of, of, uh,

5:44

oh God, where the hell is tough. Anyway,

5:46

somewhere near Boston, Massachusetts, right? Boston, yeah. Taken

5:48

her off the streets, she was there on

5:50

a ballot visa, they revoked the visa, and

5:52

now said, oh, you're not here legally anymore,

5:54

we're going to deport you. And we're going

5:56

to do it through this ICE detention center

5:59

in Louisiana. It's appalling. It's vile and

6:01

oppressive and absolutely not what

6:03

this country, until the 19th

6:05

of January, was, 20th of

6:07

January, was about. It's

6:10

absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, for

6:12

exercising the most basic rights

6:14

enshrined in this country's

6:16

constitution. Totally. So that's

6:19

my story. That's your story. All

6:21

right. Money is a much, much,

6:24

much, much, much, much, much lighter

6:26

note. just to change things. So

6:28

there I am reading the New

6:30

York Times this morning and there's

6:33

an article about a new practice

6:35

facility for the New York Liberty

6:37

which is the WNA team in

6:39

New York and WNA is on

6:42

a role at Caitlin Clark, huge

6:44

attendance records and TV contracts and

6:46

they're doing great. The headline of

6:49

the piece this morning at 4.30

6:51

when I read it was

6:53

New York Liberty practice facility.

6:55

upgrade or a spa. And

6:58

I was like, this is

7:00

appalling. Show me the

7:02

men's... new training facility where they would

7:04

say, ooh, is it an upgrade or

7:07

is it a day spa? You know,

7:09

and I've been in Major League Baseball

7:11

locker rooms. They're pretty damn sweet. And

7:13

the idea that the New York Times

7:16

would actually put that on a headline

7:18

is appalling. And I guess they heard

7:20

from people because the headline now is,

7:22

W-N-B-A practice facilities are starting to rival

7:25

the N-B-As. So good thing they changed

7:27

it. And yay that the liberty and

7:29

women's sports are slowly, slowly but surely

7:31

but surely. coming on par but holy cow

7:34

I just literally it was it's so telling

7:36

it was crazy I was I think out

7:38

loud I said are you kidding me sorry

7:40

sorry sorry let's bleep that I think out

7:43

loud this morning over my coffee that's what

7:45

I said anyway what did you say again

7:47

I didn't say anything I didn't say that's

7:49

wild yeah I read the article and it

7:52

kind of I was surprised there was a couple

7:54

of lines there were a couple lines in

7:56

there were a couple lines in there about

7:58

how in some market W.N.B. teams play

8:01

at W.Y.M.C.As. Oh, yeah. So there was

8:03

an article maybe two years ago

8:05

during the NCAA basketball tournament, the

8:07

women's decided this tournament, where they

8:09

had side-by-side shots of the women's

8:12

training shots of the women's training

8:14

facilities at, you know, the Sweet

8:16

16 site and the men's, and

8:18

you can imagine what the picture

8:21

was, right? I mean, the women

8:23

had like three racks of weights

8:25

of weights of weights and a

8:27

dirty towel, it was crazy. Just

8:30

just crazy. Yeah, anyway, Jake seems

8:32

long overdue way long overdue Jake.

8:34

Let's hit it All right, so

8:36

my headline for this one Even

8:39

though it's your item my headline

8:41

is these are the stupidest

8:43

people ever to work for

8:45

the federal government Now you

8:47

get to give the segment All

8:51

right, well the headline is,

8:53

you know, apparently our national

8:55

security advisor Mike Waltz in

8:57

addition to his infamous signal

9:00

group chat keeps his Venmo

9:02

friends list public. Yeah, so

9:04

it's like a walking talking

9:06

security violation and an invitation

9:09

to exploit him. It's just wild. Yeah,

9:11

it is. I know I saw this and I

9:13

was like, should I do this as a make

9:15

me smile because it made me smile in

9:18

a kind of dark way. Yeah, I think

9:20

like wired they found profile photo

9:22

of him on Venmo connected to

9:24

accounts of people closely associated with

9:26

him. So yeah, like internet sleuths,

9:28

adversaries, anyone could just map out

9:31

his social network. I was I

9:33

was listening to the news on

9:35

the way in this morning. Apparently,

9:37

their spiegel over in Germany has

9:39

found personal cell phone numbers and

9:41

other identifiers for both Waltz and,

9:43

um, well, Kelsey Gabbard, right? You know,

9:46

it's like you can't make it up. You

9:48

can't make it up. So these are in

9:50

fact the stupidest people ever to work

9:52

for the federal government. That's it. That's

9:54

what I got. We're done. We will

9:56

go out on that one. We are

9:58

done for this Thursday. Kimberly and are

10:01

both, that is it for this

10:03

Thursday. Kimberly and I are both

10:05
