đ«đ·Hello everyone and welcome back to my virtual classroom
đToday, we will introduce ourselves and we will talk about the masculine and the feminine forms. I have a special guest!
1-  Here are a few words we should remember from our 1st lesson:Â
-Â Â Â Â Bonjour! (Hello!)
-Â Â Â Â Au revoir! (goodbye!)
-Â Â Â Â Ă bientĂŽt (see you soon!)
-    Français (French)
-Â Â Â Â Merci (Thank you)
-Â Â Â Â De rien (You are welcome)
2-Â Â Letâs add a few new ones:
 -    Bonjour!Â
-    Comment ça va? (how are you?)
-Â Â Â Â Ăa va bien, merci! (I am doing well, thank you!)
-Â Â Â Â Je mâappelle Cathy! (âI am called Cathyâ or âmy name is Cathyâ)
-Â Â Â Â Comment tu tâappelles? (âhow are you called?â or âWhat is your name?â)
-Â Â Â Â Je mâappelle Jessie
-    Je suis française (âI am Frenchâ â the âEâ at the end of âfrançaiseâ marks the feminine form, but we will get back to it later)
-    Tu es français(e)? Tu es américain(e)? Tu es irlandais(e)? Tu es anglais(e)? (are you French, American, Irish, English?)
-    Je suis américain(e). (I am American)
-Â Â Â Â Merci et Ă bientĂŽt! (thank you and see you soon!)
-Â Â Â Â De rien et au revoir! (You are welcome and goodbye!)
3-Â Â The Masculine and the feminine forms.
-Â Â Â Â La pluie (the rain) - Feminin
-Â Â Â Â Le soleil (the sun) â Masculin
-Â Â Â Â Une chanson (a song) - Feminin
-Â Â Â Â Un livre (a book) - Masculin
There are many rules in French to learn how to recognize the gender of a noun, but these rules are often broken.Â
Fun Fact: French is roman language mostly derived from Latin and Greek. It is also a patriarchal language, so it seems to me that words were once labeled based on their meaning and their use:
-    La maison (the house), la table (the table), la cuisine (the kitchen), la chaise (the chair), la sieste (the nap), la beautĂ© (the beauty), la tĂȘte (the head), la lune (the moon), la naissance (the birth), la robe (the dress), etc. All these words are feminine and are somehow all attached to the woman gender.
-Â Â Â Â Now, le travail (the job), le cerveau (the brain), le professeur (the teacher), le combat (the battle), le soleil (the sun), le pantalon (the pants), are all masculine nouns.
Besides, âle canapĂ©â (the couch) is masculine, and âlâintelligenceâ (the intelligence) is feminine! Just kidding! đ
1-  Here are 3 verses from Jacques Prévert, based on what we have learned today:
Il dit non avec la tĂȘte
Mais il dit oui avec le cĆur
Il dit oui à ce qu'il aime
