RATING
I'm always learning the coolest stuff from this podcast. As a very curious academic with ADHD, this is basically a podcast dream come true.
It's infectious, hearing how much the ologist (and Alie) loves their study. Things I never thought I'd care about are fascinating. Great variety of ologies - from very sciencey to more historical, even a bit of woo here and there. Plus, the array of people interviewed is refreshing - mix of men and women, soft spoken, loud, southern, LA native, foreign born. This podcast truly has something for everyone.
Ologies is one of the first podcasts I got into, and "boy howdy" does it kick off quickly. Alie Ward does a fantastic job when breaking the fourth wall with her mini explanations or things she was thinking about during the interview that make this podcast unique and fun to listen to. I recommend it all the time, and it's made better by the Ologists she has on the show. Personal favorite being Phil Torres from the Butterfly episode
Hi Ali, its also Alli... I was going to wait until I graduated to write you a review but i think the time has come for me to tell my internet dad how much she means to me. First of all 4 years ago I was a college drop out who lived at a mountain resort and was a 19 year old bartender. I lived where there was no service, so when I'd have to make the hour trek to town I would always download this podcast to listen to on the drive. I had almost given up on becoming a scientist but this podcast reinvigorated the passion I had for learning since I was little. Flash forward to today, I graduate next semester with a degree in Biology and live in South Florida. This is my third semester working as a science communicator for the marine lab at my university. In the lab, I research sea turtles, create scientific illustrations, and do other outreach work. I know there were other factors to getting me back in school, but your weekly dose of science kept me tied to the scientific community, when I was so far removed society that the internet couldn't even reach me. Thanks for everything Dad Ward, I'll be listening for life.
Fantastic podcast! Great subject matter and highly fun and informative. My favorites were the Demonolgy and Osteology episodes (go figure!). But I cant wait to listen to them all!
As if the scientific knowledge isn't reason enough, Alie Ward brings an element of enthusiasm and humor that makes every topic a worthwhile listen. Interesting guests, clever takes, and an ability to make even the most complex subjects accessible to anyone.
Really cool show! I am not a scientist by any stretch but I love the way the host interviews the various experts. If you want to learn something new and get exposure to a topic you may have never even thought about before, this is the show for you!
It's Alie Ward - that should be enough for you. If somehow it's not, the experts she interviews will be. Delightful and charming show with lots of laughs so you don't even realize you're learning stuff. And isn't that the real goal?
Interesting subjects, interesting and knowledgeable interviewees with plenty of expertise to share, and even a decent intro tune. All the ingredients for an interesting podcast are there. With good host at the wheel it could be a great, perhaps even excellent listen. While some may appreciate, maybe even love, Allie Ward's approach, I don't share that feeling. In my opinion, Ologies is hampered by a host who tries too hard to be funny and relatable, but never really is. The interviews are barely ok, and the post-interview asides are filled with failed jokes, and unnecessary comments about google searches and wikipedia readings, rather than real research. It is more often than not excruciatingly annoying to listen. While the concept has the potential for excellence, the execution as it is makes for a deeply regrettable podcast. It's a painfully failed attempt at something that could have been awesome. What a missed opportunity, what a shame.
Love this podcast. Alie covers such a huge spectrum of topics with enormous enthusiasm and is an excellent interviewer who brings out the personalities and individualism of her guests as well as their expertise. Alie's asides ensure that we can follow the technical terminology used and also give us a laugh as the interview goes on too!
I am in love. Funny and awesome female host that TEACHES ME THINGS? Yes and yes. This is my Go To Podcast for every occasion and the FIRST thing i listen to when its available.
Heeey Dad Ward, you are such a great source of information on such a variety of subjects. I, like so many others, have ended up listening to your fascinating podcasts even if I thought I wasn't interested in the subject. Please keep making these forever and ever, you are killing it in the field of SciComm! Your wit, side notes, excitement and humanity shine through in each episode. I can't wait for each new episode. Sending you hugs Alie, thank you!
I want to testify about Hacker Judas blank ATM cards which can withdraw money from any ATM machines around the world. I was very poor before and have no job. I saw so much testimony about how Judas hackers send them the ATM blank card and use it to collect money in any ATM machine and become rich.Email : hackerjudas9@gmail.comGoogle chats : hackerjudas9@gmail.com
Alie Ward inspired me to start my own podcast. I love it
A fun podcast that explores a wide variety of topics that I probably would have never thought about were it not for this podcast.
Dadward is the best.
Ever since the first episode I've been hooked! Alie is the ultimate cool girl science nerd, and the guests she has on are amazing! If you like any type of sciency thing, be it bugs or trees or volcanoes or planets or social science, there's an episode for you!
I was listening to this so much that I got sick of it. And that made me sad. I wrecked it for myself. However I took a 1 month break and I'm back feeling as relaxed by Alie's humour and as piqued by the explanations and facts as ever.Alie is truly funny. The one thing I don't understand is how she thinks she swears too much. The f bombs are so uncommon that they really add to the humour when they happen.I suggested ologies to my partner and he said he couldn't listen to her voice!! This is a primary example of not taking things personally. Because if I were you Alie, that would hurt. But I'm here to tell you that your voice is clear and warm and has pleasant and clever variational tones. Also he's suggested podcasts I cannot listen to based on the voice. So that's just life.I want to thank you for the hours of utter boredome you've managed to make feel social and productive. Not only am I absorbing an honest conversation, but I feel slightly less uninformed afterwards.I really like how Alie deeply appreciates and respects the educated folk but still does the aside of fact checking what they say, to both prove it and broaden on it. It's like she treats people as fallible but also wonderful.Lastly I get a weird cozy thrill from hearing my Uncle say 'berbye' at the end. I think it's because I don't understand it. Is it just a cute way of saying bye? I've never heard anyone use it. It's excellently sweet and silly.
100 stars for Alie Ward and her experts. Beautifully produced podcast brimming with information that you never knew you needed. I wowed my partner with my newly-found knowledge of jellyfish life cycles when we went to the aquarium.
