1:06

today's episode of one shining podcast, we've got

1:08

Kyle back on the show and it

1:10

is a very good time because again, it

1:12

is the off season. There are low

1:14

stakes. And when there are low stakes, we

1:16

can have some fun conversations. The portal

1:18

is officially closed. We'll talk about the end

1:21

of the portal, this run in the

1:23

spring window and why it has been absolutely

1:25

insane, complete chaos. We'll also talk about

1:27

some of the biggest headlines, Rick Petino or

1:29

a 91 year old running Italian woman.

1:31

We'll talk about that. The biggest dominoes left

1:33

in the portal guys. that are testing

1:35

the waters and some sleepers in the NBA

1:37

draft ahead. We got league hymns, very own

1:39

Jacob Myers to help us make sense

1:41

of what he's seeing boots on the ground.

1:43

So we got a very fun show. Kyle,

1:46

anything else before we get into today's episode?

1:48

Tate, I'm back from the crown jewel. I'm feeling

1:51

rejuvenated and ready to Cape for the rick

1:53

tater. That is not Rick Petino. I'm here to

1:55

tell you, but I'm glad he's on your

1:57

minds. We got a bunch of stuff to

1:59

cover, but first, what are you doing? Technical

2:05

foul! Welcome

2:16

back to one shining podcast. It is still

2:18

April. It is Monday. It is April 28th.

2:20

We are almost into May. April showers are

2:23

almost behind us. But again, it is college

2:25

basketball off season. We welcome you to the

2:27

off season with Kyle Guy last week. That

2:29

was a great moment in time. We appreciate

2:31

Kyle Guy coming on the show. We're excited

2:33

to have him as a friend of the

2:35

program as always. There is a lot happening

2:38

in the world of college basketball, mainly off

2:40

the court. There is nothing really happening on

2:42

the court. Maybe there's some teams that are,

2:44

you know, as Richard Bettino pointed out that

2:46

they were running some spring practice. They were

2:48

just managers shooting the basketball. So there are

2:50

some people that are trying to make things

2:52

happen on the court. But again, everything is

2:55

happening for the most part off the court.

2:57

And it's no longer happening in the

2:59

portal anymore. That's right. The portal is officially

3:01

closed. It closed about six days ago,

3:03

April 22nd. And again, it is not April

3:05

22nd. We're about a week away from

3:07

that. We did our show last week, the

3:09

portal officially closed. And there are a

3:12

lot of takes that are, we love takes.

3:14

We live in a world of takes.

3:16

Takes have actually taken our society over and

3:18

that's all we hear now. We don't

3:20

even get, we even know what's real, but

3:22

we do know that takes are real.

3:24

They're here and they are coming out about

3:26

the portal. Jamie Shaw shout out. He

3:29

reported this piece for on three, but here's

3:31

what they said. No rules. No

3:33

regulations. Coaches are sounding

3:35

off. I love when coaches sound

3:37

off. I'm sure Brian Curtis in the

3:39

press box, they love when someone is ready

3:41

to sound off with their takeaway from

3:43

the 2025 transfer portal. Here's the quote. This

3:46

is, I mean, as expected, but just a quote

3:48

that kind of sums up what we're dealing with

3:50

these days. This cycle, quote,

3:52

this cycle was out of control. So many

3:54

players were overpaid backups were even overpaid.

3:56

It was all a money grab. No one

3:59

looked at fit at all. That has been

4:01

the complaint and the gripe that I

4:03

have heard from many of coaches, many of

4:05

support staff people that again, this is

4:07

not about fit. This is about who can

4:09

pay me the most money, who can

4:11

promise me the most money. And again, the

4:13

real game that then comes into play

4:15

as is tradition in college basketball is who's

4:18

actually going to write me the check

4:20

who is going to CTC as Rashid Wallace

4:22

taught us cut the check because you

4:24

can get a lot of promises in this

4:26

life. But you don't get a lot of checks. And

4:29

again, someone's got to cut that check. And I

4:31

think a lot of people are putting their name

4:33

in the portal, expecting someone to CTC. And

4:35

again, the revenue sharing that was expected

4:37

to be decided on the night of

4:39

the national championship game, or at least

4:41

during the day, it was pushed. Now

4:43

the expectation is this summer, But

4:45

again, everyone is looking around and everyone is

4:47

saying who is going to cut that

4:49

check. And we just don't know right now

4:52

who is going to cut that check.

4:54

But the portal was a mess. We also

4:56

have another angle of the portal, which

4:58

is a new thing in this new life,

5:00

which is entering your name into the

5:02

portal with zero years of eligibility. So these

5:04

are guys that have played. Um, upwards

5:06

to six years of college basketball, if they

5:08

have a red shirt, sometimes seven years,

5:11

uh, of college basketball, if you're a set

5:13

towns, we call that the set towns

5:15

situation. Perry Ellis got a lot of

5:17

gripe for it, but he really didn't do

5:19

any of this stuff. Um, but there are

5:21

guys that have played seven years, eight years,

5:23

Tyler Shuck, who just got drafted before Shredor

5:25

Sanders in the NFL draft. He was in

5:27

the same draft class as Brock Purdy. So,

5:29

um, Again, and Brock Purdy

5:31

feels like a vet right now, but

5:33

that's the road that we live in. Here

5:35

are some names that have put their

5:38

name in the portal with zero years of

5:40

eligibility remaining. Dantres Styles from NC State

5:42

has done this. Ian Scheffelin from Clemson has

5:44

done this. Julian Reese from Maryland has

5:46

done this. A little brother of Angel Reese,

5:48

obviously Dawson Garcia of Minnesota has done

5:50

this. The list goes on, but there are

5:52

a lot of guys that have decided

5:54

to put their name in the portal just

5:56

in case we get rid of term

5:58

limits because there is a world where for

6:00

four years, five years, six years, seven years.

6:02

You can play college basketball for as

6:04

long as you would like, which goes back

6:06

to my original conceit since I've come

6:08

back to One Shining Podcast a couple years

6:10

ago. College basketball was turning into pro

6:12

basketball. So you might as well buy into

6:15

it now. Deloitte is running this game.

6:17

This is the world that we live in.

6:19

And speaking of the bag, bad

6:21

guy of the week, Eric Musselman. Shout

6:24

out. The must bust is Roland

6:26

Rodney Rice was pretty much a done

6:28

deal. Most thought to go to

6:30

Villanova to follow Kevin Willard to Villanova.

6:32

That was the expectation and then

6:34

must wheeled the bus in and the

6:36

bus was full of cash and

6:38

it was three million reportedly allegedly three

6:40

million dollars in cash to get

6:42

Rodney Rice to go play basketball at

6:44

USC next season. There is a

6:46

new domino that has also decided to

6:48

go join the muss bus. That

6:51

is Chad Baker Mazara. Yes. Auburn's

6:53

very own Chad Baker -Mazar, who

6:55

will be 27. Michael

6:57

Jordan won his first NBA title at

6:59

the age of 27. Giannis Anticompo

7:01

won his first title at the age

7:03

of 27. Auburn transfer guard Chad

7:05

Baker -Mazar at the age of 27

7:07

will be playing basketball for Eric

7:10

Musselman. He averaged the six foot

7:12

seven wing average, 12 .3 points per

7:14

game, three rebounds, 2 .7 assists. Obviously scored

7:16

18 points on Florida in the final

7:18

four, but now he is going to

7:20

be playing for U .S. See, just

7:23

a fascinating. situation

7:25

of musical chairs that is happening

7:27

in college basketball. Obviously we see it

7:29

with the coaching carousel, but the

7:31

portal is his own game. Rodney

7:33

Rice commits for three million Desmond

7:35

Cloud. Then obviously the domino from

7:37

there is that he's in the portal.

7:39

Nobody knows where Desmond Cloud is going to

7:42

go. He was Xavier's best player two

7:44

years ago. Transferred to the must bus last

7:46

year did not work out so well.

7:48

Six foot six guard. Obviously a lot of

7:50

talent. So again, one domino falls, the

7:52

other one continues. used to figure out where

7:54

they're going to go next. And we're going to

7:56

see what happens with Desmond Cloud. But bad guy

7:58

of the week, Eric Musselman, Rodney Rice, Chad Baker

8:00

-Mazzara. Chad Baker -Mazzara is the Kelly Ubre

8:03

of college basketball. And I mean that in

8:05

every sense of the word and the

8:07

way that he plays everything. He

8:09

is Kelly Ubre. Enjoy

8:11

that. We will be watching that at

8:13

USC. Another guy that's near and dear

8:15

to our heart, Dylan Darling. If you

8:17

have been listening to the show, Kyle

8:19

Smith, head coach of Stanford, he came

8:21

on the show. I told him how

8:23

much I love the 2023 -24 Wazoo

8:25

team. He asked me where Dylan Darling

8:27

played. I told him Idaho

8:29

State and that's because I was so

8:32

locked into Dylan Darling because I was looking

8:34

at him at the transfer portal. You

8:36

know who else was looking at him? Rick

8:38

Petino. Rick Petino, the number one transfer

8:40

portal class, St. John's. They are adding. more

8:42

and more talent. Dylan Darling last year

8:44

averaged 19 .8 points per game, 5 .7 assists

8:46

per game, just a stud. And this

8:48

guy, I mean, did not play at Wazoo.

8:50

He was hurt during the 2023 -24 season,

8:52

but another stud that Rick Pettino has

8:54

been able to find and scrounge up in

8:56

the portal. This is

8:58

from Evan Miakawa, friend of the program.

9:00

There were only three Cowards basketball teams who

9:02

did not lose a single scholarship player

9:04

to the portal this off season, just three,

9:06

which is insane. They were Tennessee, shout

9:08

out to Rick Barnes, friend of the program,

9:11

shout out to Duke, and shout out

9:13

to BU Boston University. So there you go.

9:15

The three schools that had no scholarship

9:17

players transfer. Another transfer, a

9:19

notable transfer. That's just fascinating. If you

9:21

know the name, Devon ask you. You've

9:23

been a fan of college basketball for

9:25

at least six years and you remember

9:27

when he was a five -star you

9:29

remember when he Classed up you remember

9:32

when he went to Kentucky. He is

9:34

now going to Villanova So Devon asked

9:36

you from Kentucky to Texas to cow

9:38

to Long Beach State to Villanova What

9:40

a run that is the modern age

9:42

of college basketball. Will we knit this

9:44

in the bud? Will we find common

9:46

sense? These are the questions we are

9:48

asking and the answer seems to be

9:50

an echo or a no. We don't

9:52

know which one, one or the other.

9:54

But again, there are no answers that

9:56

are being said and being made. Last

9:59

big storyline, and this is a

10:01

fascinating storyline, going back to the

10:03

landscape of college basketball, Kentucky is

10:05

spinning off their entire athletics department

10:07

and they are turning it into

10:09

a new business entity. So

10:11

this is the work. Yes, Kyle,

10:13

that is the right. Wait, what?

10:15

Wait, what? Yes. Kentucky. is

10:18

doing this. So the university, I'll

10:20

read you the story and you

10:22

tell me what's going on. The

10:24

university is breaking off its athletics

10:26

department into a new entity called

10:28

Champions Blue LLC. It

10:30

will operate under Beyond Blue

10:32

Corporation, a university affiliated

10:34

nonprofit created in 2014 to

10:36

manage acquisitions and strategic

10:39

ventures in UK's expanding healthcare

10:41

system. Beyond Blue has

10:43

since grown into a $1

10:45

.3 billion. I'm gonna say

10:47

that again. It is going into

10:49

going into yes a 1 .3 billion

10:51

dollar non -profit enterprise and UK leaders

10:53

say the same flexible structure can now

10:55

help the athletics department prepare for

10:57

the financial realities of college sports and

10:59

transition so Everybody's been trying to

11:02

figure out what the future looks like

11:04

And I'll say this without going

11:06

too deep into the weeds. I've had

11:08

some intimate conversations about how do

11:10

you figure out how to? paid

11:12

these kids, you know what I mean?

11:14

Like, as South Park once showed us

11:16

famously, you know what I mean? You

11:18

got to reach these kids. You got

11:20

to pay these kids somehow. And

11:22

every institution is trying to figure out

11:25

how to do it through a nonprofit channel.

11:27

Obviously, it's easier if you're connected through

11:29

a church, cough, cough, BYU. But

11:31

when you are not, you

11:33

have some issues to get through.

11:36

And Kentucky doing this and

11:38

making an LLC, there's

11:40

a lot of institutions that are trying to

11:42

figure out how you make an LOC that

11:44

is not affiliated with university. But

11:46

it's all very convoluted and

11:48

very confusing. And honestly, you

11:51

know, could be borderline. I mean, you know,

11:53

nobody knows what the rules are. So, you

11:55

know what I mean? There's just this gray

11:57

area and the gray is growing and we're

11:59

all kind of lost in the shuffle. But

12:01

Kentucky announcing this and doing this and creating

12:03

an LOC, that is very,

12:05

very interesting to say the

12:07

least. So champions blue. is that's

12:09

the offshoot of the larger

12:11

thing that is a non -profit.

12:13

Do we know if Champions Blue

12:16

is also a non -profit? It's

12:18

an LLC, so it's

12:20

a business, but it will

12:22

be operated under the larger

12:24

affiliated non -profit that is

12:26

beyond Blue Corporation. Certainly confusing.

12:28

I, you know, we love

12:31

mergers. We love acquisitions. Everybody

12:33

does in business. You

12:35

know what's so funny? I had guys telling me and

12:37

I was talking about taxes and there were like a

12:39

couple of my buddies from the frolic room and they're

12:41

like, what you need to do is you make an

12:43

LLC. you get paid, have Spotify

12:45

pay you through the L. I'm like,

12:47

guys, this already doesn't sound good. And

12:49

then everything's written off. So when I

12:51

hear like, spin off LLCs, this is

12:53

what I think of like, how

12:56

do you gain the system? So

12:58

not accusing, obviously. Well, I just will

13:00

say this, you know what I

13:02

mean? I think there's the amount of

13:04

school spirit and pride and love

13:06

for you know, these schools and these

13:08

teams and these programs, whatever you

13:10

want to call it, like that exists

13:13

and is inherent. I think that,

13:15

like, that is special. But

13:17

I don't think that many people would

13:19

be willing to go to jail for

13:21

it, you know what I mean? So,

13:23

like, that is the thing to keep

13:25

in the back of your mind. And

13:27

obviously, Kentucky has looked through all the

13:29

different angles and options and has decided

13:31

this is the best way to do

13:33

the funneling of the money, the funneling

13:35

of the funds to keep it prim

13:38

and proper. So it's fascinating. And obviously

13:40

if this is the new thing and

13:42

it works, like everybody's going to do

13:44

some form of this. But I just,

13:46

when I saw that storyline, I was

13:48

like, is this real? Is this a

13:50

real report? It is real. And it

13:52

hasn't hit the national news yet. It

13:54

seems like it's more of a local

13:56

conversation. But beyond blue, the original nonprofit

13:58

was created in 2014 to quote unquote

14:00

manage acquisition. and ventures. And

14:03

that was them getting into

14:05

healthcare. Which is, that's the

14:07

other thing. That's another, oof

14:09

man. There's a lot going on there.

14:11

But again, uh, college basketball intertwined

14:13

and all of this madness and all

14:15

this mayhem. And that's why we

14:17

call it March Madness. Last thing before

14:19

we get to our guy, Jacob

14:21

Myers, AKA Lee Kim, uh, Rick Petino

14:23

or a 91 year old running

14:25

Italian woman. That is the question. Um,

14:27

a lot of people have sent this over to us.

14:29

Kyle, you're back on the show. Um,

14:31

I can hear you groaning already. Did you

14:33

see this? Do you like this?

14:36

And what do we, what do we like? Is

14:38

this something where Rick Pantino laughs at this

14:40

or is Rick Pantino upset? If you

14:42

haven't seen the picture, New York

14:44

Post put this out, Italian woman, 91

14:47

breaks running record. What makes her

14:49

body different according to doctors? So

14:51

what does make her body different? And

14:53

what did you think about this guy?

14:55

There's two things dudes love to send

14:58

me. And one is that video of

15:00

that guy in the backyard of a

15:02

Poughkeepsie neighborhood showing how disgusting it is.

15:04

Yeah. Yeah, that's North side stuff. It's

15:06

not great. You know, I'm

15:08

a South side myself. Hey, every,

15:10

every town has, has an area. You're

15:13

in the throes of winter. It looks great. Anyway,

15:15

you know, come back, come back, you know, everything's

15:17

blooming now. Take that video. I can't believe someone's

15:19

trying to like down the crown. You know what

15:21

I mean? Like this is the crown jewel. Let

15:24

go. So they love sending

15:26

me that. And they've loved sending

15:28

me this woman with the

15:30

comment that is ripetino. It's unfortunate,

15:32

but I

15:34

wonder, I feel like... I think unfortunate is

15:36

the right word, you know what I mean?

15:38

It's a bad angle. Like, PTI does the

15:41

one word, you know what I mean? I

15:43

think unfortunate is like, when Rick Latino saw

15:45

this, he was like, God, that's unfortunate. Because

15:47

like, the picture itself, like, when you see

15:49

her not running, like, when she's sitting down...

15:51

There's no mistake, of course. It's like, no,

15:53

that's not Rick Latino. But when she has

15:55

the sunglasses on, and she's like, full rip

15:57

mode, it does look like Rick... It looks

15:59

like Rick Latino yelling at someone, you know

16:01

what I mean? Yeah. Like, as she's exerting

16:03

the four... I think it's

16:05

okay. I think it is okay. It's

16:08

okay. All news is good news. All

16:10

coverage is good coverage. So,

16:12

Rick Petino, shout out to you. Kyle,

16:14

you were also back. Last thing, you were

16:17

back at the hotel we stayed at for

16:19

the American game, right? For

16:21

a wedding? Yes. All good? Everything hold up okay?

16:23

Yeah. Well, we still didn't fill in the hot

16:25

tub. I was devastated about that. Oh man. It's

16:27

been a month. Sorry about that. You know, our

16:29

guy down at the bar remembered me and he

16:31

remembered where I was sitting and all that stuff.

16:33

So it was nice to know I made an

16:35

impression on that man. I just love the day

16:37

one remembered you and the two that you were

16:40

back in that same place under a totally different

16:42

context. Yeah. That is hopefully you didn't

16:44

get my old room where I got food poisoning.

16:46

That's thing. That was in the South tower this

16:48

time. All right. Good. Good. You were at the

16:50

right time. Yeah. That's perfect. That's

16:52

perfect. All right. Biggest dominoes

16:54

in the portal. We're going to

16:56

talk testing the water. We're testing the waters, all

16:59

this sort of stuff with Lee Kims, Jacob Myers,

17:01

just some names that are still out there that

17:03

are still floating that I just want to point

17:05

out in the portal that are still names to

17:07

know notable names that are at least in our

17:09

world that we care about. There's PJ Haggerty from

17:11

Memphis. He's asking for $4 million. Everyone

17:13

is hung up the phone and everyone is trying

17:16

to figure out where he got that number from.

17:18

And we'll see what happens with that. RJ Lewis

17:20

will talk to Jacob about him a little bit.

17:22

Darian Williams from Texas Tech is

17:25

obviously another name. Andrej Stojakovic

17:27

is down to three schools, Illinois,

17:29

UNC, and Stanford. Yeah.

17:31

And one of them, Stanford. Aren't you not? Come on.

17:33

You can't do that, right? I mean, we've seen

17:35

a lot of snipping. We've seen a lot of snipping

17:37

out there, you know what I mean? And he

17:39

did like Stanford a lot. I know from intimate sources

17:41

that he was very upset when like a has

17:43

got fired and he got locked out of the gym

17:45

and. He really liked his life at Stanford. And

17:47

then he goes to cow. And I think he kind

17:49

of missed his life at Stanford. Obviously Mark Madsen

17:51

was, you know, a player at Stanford so he can

17:53

relate. Jameer Watkins at FSU is

17:55

another big name, big fish that is

17:58

out there. We'll see what he does. Darien

18:00

Reed from Alabama. Tyon

18:02

Grant Foster from Grand Canyon.

18:04

Ben Allen Lubin, AKA Val

18:06

from UNC. Another fascinating one.

18:09

Mr. Dean. An all -name

18:11

guy from USC Upstate. He's out there

18:13

looking for a new place. Mikey Williams,

18:15

a legendary internet figure that is still

18:17

trying to find where he's going to

18:19

play basketball next year. James Scott from

18:21

Louisville, the masked man. He's in the

18:23

portal. Kamani Hamilton from High Point. He's

18:25

also in the portal, a really

18:27

good player like his game. And then the last

18:29

one that's just a notable name that you and

18:31

I love, Will Johnston from LMU with the rat

18:33

tail. He's in the portal. The

18:36

Aussie himself. So again, Lot

18:38

of talent in the portal wanted to

18:40

give them some love We're gonna talk

18:42

testing the waters and some names to

18:44

know and some 2025 thoughts as well

18:47

with Jacob Myers stay tuned on the

18:49

other side of the break We will

18:51

have league hymns very own and we

18:53

will talk to you then As promised

18:55

at the top of the show joining

18:57

us now league hymn aka Jacob

19:00

Myers, uh, I guess Jacob

19:02

Myers, AKA leak him, but either way it

19:04

works. Jacob is back on the show. We

19:06

appreciate him coming on the show. It is

19:08

draft season. It is not our draft season.

19:10

Of course we are not seeing guys get

19:12

leaked in the NBA. We're in the midst

19:14

of the NBA playoffs. A lot of good

19:16

series, a lot of good matchups, a lot

19:18

of good games that are happening in real

19:21

time right now. Uh, but it is draft

19:23

time. We get a lot of draft jargon.

19:25

I want to start there. Uh, Jacob, you

19:27

were texting me about Todd McShay, our ringer

19:29

employee and sort of the draft jargon that

19:31

he he uses and puts on display. I

19:33

watched a lot of Todd McShay over the

19:35

past few weeks throughout all the YouTube streams.

19:37

I am also fascinated by this. How much

19:39

fun is it to watch like the NFL

19:41

version of the draft talk and like what

19:43

kind of stuff crosses over into the basketball

19:45

world? Like what, what did you see? What

19:48

did you learn? Let's start there. Yeah,

19:51

for sure. I love listening to

19:53

it. Those guys are pros, pros,

19:55

especially Todd, who's been doing it

19:57

for decades. I think it

19:59

starts for me the the linguistics. I

20:01

admire I mean the different ways they

20:03

Notate a source like it's it's hilarious

20:05

to me like you know He's not

20:07

a news breaker, but like you know

20:09

me you was like you most of

20:11

your friends are like within basketball You

20:13

know agents or in a front office

20:15

or coaches and you just hear stuff

20:17

right right and I rumblings I love

20:19

the different ways they kind of Describe

20:21

a source talk about meetings with top

20:23

brass. I think The lingo, they just

20:25

got it down to a T, tie

20:27

level. Yeah, it's high level stuff. I

20:29

love the jargon. I love, uh, McShay

20:31

being able to describe like players in

20:33

so many different ways. I asked him,

20:35

he came on through the ringer and

20:38

I asked him about that. I'm like,

20:40

do you have a book of like,

20:42

uh, adjectives? Do you have like synonyms

20:44

that you look up for these certain

20:46

things, handsy, rangy? Uh, Kyle Mann has

20:48

some of that as well, where he

20:50

just like has all these different adjectives

20:52

and, uh, ways of describing things that

20:54

are very mundane, but it makes it

20:56

sound like it's world breaking. And, uh,

20:58

I think that is the beauty of

21:00

the draft. process because we do like

21:02

the promise. And one of the things

21:04

that I think McShay actually did really

21:06

well with this draft process was predicting

21:08

the Shaddur drop, which was fascinating to

21:10

watch. Did we learn anything from the

21:12

Shaddur thing for like NBA? Because I

21:14

saw a lot of people pointing to

21:16

NIL, right? They're like, Shaddur has so

21:18

much power in the college sports landscape

21:20

with his sort of mass appeal, his

21:22

ability to sell himself. Obviously he's got

21:24

prime standards behind him. They have a

21:26

brand. It works in college. He has

21:28

all the sway in college, but he

21:30

kind of took that and he went

21:32

swinging into the NFL brass, the top

21:34

brass. And they, they, they slapped

21:37

him back and said, we don't want

21:39

to see that. He falls to the fifth

21:41

round. Um, is this a sign of

21:43

things to come? Is this a specific scenario?

21:45

Does this seem like something that could

21:47

happen in the NBA pool? Um, do we

21:49

have a Shaddur Sanders on the basketball

21:51

side? I don't really think so, but, uh,

21:53

what was your take on the Shaddur

21:55

thing? Cause that was very fascinating too. Yeah,

21:58

it's definitely fascinating, especially the way

22:00

it's been covered for so many.

22:03

I mean, he might have called not a

22:05

first round pick, but I mean, the guy

22:07

went in the fifth round, right? And for

22:09

the consensus to be whatever, I heard people

22:11

saying, you know, the third pick at one

22:13

point, you know, meeting with the Giants and

22:15

again, I'm very much a casual. I'm not,

22:17

I'm not crunching the football take the all 22.

22:19

But yeah, the way it's occurred, it's

22:21

very fascinating. So it's my understanding. Didn't

22:24

have an official agent. right? It's like, that

22:26

hasn't been talked about a lot. His dad was

22:28

the agent, which is, I mean, the agents

22:30

run these waters, you know what I mean? That

22:32

would just be like, I'm going to

22:34

go out hunting with sharks, but I'm not a shark,

22:36

you know what I mean? Like that is, It's

22:39

it's a different pool to play in and

22:41

it's funny cuz Shiloh I mean I'm like on

22:43

to I don't even get on Twitch But

22:45

I downloaded twitch to watch the Shaddur Sanders live

22:47

because I'm like I got to see what

22:49

this reaction is in real time I thought he

22:51

handled it pretty well, but Shiloh is so

22:53

funny. He's like turning on his dad He's like

22:56

we got the worst agent in the game

22:58

right now You know cuz that is true like

23:00

that does play a definitely a role in

23:02

this like these agents dictate everything whether it's the

23:04

portal whether it's you know NIL deals obviously

23:06

getting into the league like they dictate the Conversations

23:08

really and if you're not one of those

23:10

people it changes things for you Yeah, definitely. So

23:12

it's like it seemed like again, I'm not

23:15

trying to assume anything but it seems like they

23:17

narrowed down to a few different teams and

23:19

you know, it didn't Didn't stick so it's like

23:21

you didn't throw at the combine Didn't participate

23:23

in like the East West of senior bowl. You

23:25

know, did the interviews or whatever. Mm -hmm So

23:27

I think it was very bold. I respect

23:29

the the chess they tried to play I mean,

23:31

I think it was ambitious. It was uh,

23:33

it was unique. It was interesting to watch didn't

23:36

go well. I mean, we'll see, like the

23:38

eyes with the browns. That's

23:40

interesting. But, um, yeah, the

23:42

funniest thing about the ironic part of all

23:44

of it is that there were teams, remember Dion

23:46

was saying, like they were going to Eli

23:48

it. And like one of the teams that a

23:50

lot of people speculated that got Eli it

23:53

was Cleveland. And then in the fifth round, you

23:55

know, Cleveland sitting right there and I'm sure

23:57

it's, it felt like an owner decision. Like the

23:59

owners are just like, this is, it almost

24:01

could be a sick and twisted joke where the

24:03

Browns are like, you didn't want us to

24:05

draft you number two. Now we sit here in

24:07

the fifth round, you're still on the board.

24:09

I mean, this is the longest we've ever seen

24:11

Mel's best available ever. I mean, he was

24:13

Mel's best available from the first pick all the

24:15

way into the fifth round. We will never

24:18

see anything like that again. And Mel Kuiper was

24:20

crashing out in real time. Like as someone

24:22

who does like the grades, you know what I

24:24

mean? With this sort of the draft predictability,

24:26

like you kind of live and die by your

24:28

predictions, which is a tough business to be

24:30

in. Did you have some empathy for Mel Kuiper

24:32

in that moment? You know what I mean?

24:34

As he was crashing out because it did feel

24:36

like he put a lot of chips in

24:38

the basket of Shaddur Sanders and it did not

24:40

work out in real time. Yeah,

24:43

I see him getting killed on social media.

24:45

Oh, yeah, they're saying fire this man. He's

24:47

getting publicly shamed. It's unbelievable.

24:49

This might be a hot take

24:51

here. I actually respect

24:53

it. I respect that he trusted his

24:55

eyes. Obviously, there's a balance. You don't

24:58

want to be too stubborn and really

25:00

biased or anchored in your opinion, but

25:02

I didn't enjoy how... It seemed like

25:04

everyone else just started to go with

25:06

this, like, revisionist history. Like, oh, yeah,

25:08

the interviews went terrible. He wasn't that

25:10

good. Right. He's like, whoa. He's top

25:12

10 on every board three weeks ago,

25:14

and now it's, you know, right. Like,

25:16

he was player the year in the

25:18

conference. They did turn around

25:20

that program. I don't think he's, you

25:22

know, a walking reflection of humility, but

25:24

he does seem like to have a

25:26

good head on his shoulders. He's certainly

25:28

pretty, you know, like, sharp, accurate quarterback,

25:30

strategic, got a lot of

25:32

swag. But like I almost respected, yeah,

25:35

like you said, I respected that Mel trusted

25:37

his eyes. And I mean, he's like

25:39

the godfather and all this. I mean, he

25:41

had people paying attention to the NFL

25:43

draft well before the NBA draft. But yeah,

25:45

I didn't enjoy the history of like,

25:47

you know, just acting like everyone knew it

25:49

all was going to happen. Like, come

25:51

on now, everyone was surprised. If

25:53

you thought he was to be a fifth round pick,

25:55

you wouldn't just put him in the first to like,

25:57

you're afraid to ruffle feathers. Like, if anything, if

26:00

you thought he was a fifth round pick, these

26:02

people probably would have loved to be like, I

26:04

projected him to go in the fifth round. You

26:06

know what I mean? Right, right. Now I call

26:08

them Kias. They're know -it -alls and they come out

26:10

of the woodwork and they love to be captain

26:12

hindsight and look back. And I remember McShade came

26:14

on the show two weeks ago and said he

26:16

thought Shaddour could fall past 20. And that was

26:18

seen as like, you know, sacrilegious to even say

26:20

at the time people are like, you think he's

26:23

going to fall to 20? That's insane. Some team

26:25

will have to trade up for him. He might

26:27

even end up being top five, right? So the

26:29

revisionist history is wild. The other funny part about

26:31

all this sort of stuff is that I should

26:33

do a Sanders tweeted when he did get drafted.

26:35

Thank you, God. And then KFC. I

26:37

responded. The kernel was rejected a thousand

26:39

and nine times before, before finally landing our

26:41

famous original recipes. Sometimes all Sanders needs

26:43

is a little time to cook. Congrats to

26:45

Shadoor. So KFC, he's got the brands,

26:47

you know what I mean? That's at the

26:49

end of the day. Like everyone was

26:52

like, what is Shadoor Sanders going to do?

26:54

It's like, he's going to eat off

26:56

these brand deals. He's got Delta. He's got

26:58

KFC like beats by Dre. Obviously these

27:00

brands don't give a shit that he's not

27:02

going to be a starting quarterback. They

27:04

have already signed up for the Shadoor experience.

27:07

And they're locked in. So, uh, I think

27:09

it's a happy ending for everybody. And, uh,

27:11

you know, Cleveland, you get a star, or

27:13

at least you get like a star conversation

27:15

around your team. That's all you want. It's

27:17

better than James. And it's better than, you

27:19

know, what they were doing before with the

27:21

Sean Watson. I mean, they have a star

27:24

in Flacco, right? Right. That's true. They do

27:26

have a Super Bowl winning quarterback. Right. They

27:28

have two actually, uh, in that room. Cause

27:30

Kenny Pickett won a Super Bowl. So. Yeah,

27:32

that Cleveland Browns quarterback room is going to

27:35

be hilarious. Let's talk testing the waters because

27:37

that's also hilarious. This is a tried and

27:39

true tradition in college basketball. We have guys

27:41

that decide if they're going to stay in

27:43

the NBA pool, if they're going to come

27:45

back to college, if they're going to sort

27:47

of fledged back and forth and have their

27:49

agents dictate what they're going to do. But

27:51

as far as the headliners that are going

27:54

to be testing the waters, guys who we

27:56

can actually see coming back in college basketball,

27:58

a guy that you and I really like

28:00

who is under the radar, we'd call him

28:02

a hidden Jim Cedric Coward, who was at

28:04

Wazoo, had a great start to the season

28:06

was all over our, you know, perspective boards,

28:08

a lot of people talking about NBA buzz.

28:11

He gets hurt. Now he's kind of a

28:13

portal guy that a lot of college teams

28:15

like also going to go through the NBA

28:17

process by most accounts, but his commitment is.

28:19

Right on the, the, the cusp right now,

28:21

whether it's going to be Duke, whether it's

28:23

going to be a situation where he goes

28:25

to Alabama. There's a lot of teams that

28:28

think they're in the mix, but those seem

28:30

to be the, the tried and true ones.

28:32

But let's just start with his game. What

28:34

do we like about Cedric Coward and like,

28:36

what could he do for an NBA team

28:38

in the next year for a college team?

28:41

Yeah, you painted it pretty well. Those seem

28:43

like the two schools that have a fighting

28:45

chance. And, um, you know, he is, he

28:47

is real interest from NBA teams, especially now

28:49

with a lot of players that didn't even

28:51

elect to test the process. You know, there's.

28:54

There's more availability in that second round, late

28:56

first round for guys to get picked, a

28:58

little bit less talent in the pool because

29:00

of NIL, rev -share, all of that. On

29:02

the court, Cedric, you know, he's super versatile,

29:04

seven foot wingspan, six foot six

29:06

wing, kind of this late

29:09

bloomer emerged from D3, went to

29:11

Eastern Washington, then he was at

29:13

Wazoo for six games, borderline 50

29:15

-40 -90 in six games. You know,

29:17

he's a great defender. Like

29:20

Michelle would say, he's very rangy,

29:22

ferocious, he's aggressive, tremendous motor,

29:24

good rebounder, and he can kind of just do

29:26

a little bit of everything. You shoot, he

29:29

can move the ball, he can

29:31

slash, he's physical. So he's kind

29:33

of like that two -way wing that kind of

29:35

fits on any team. For me,

29:37

I mean, I personally think if he stays

29:39

in, I think he gets guaranteed money. I

29:41

think he's a guaranteed contract guy, especially with

29:43

the trajectory he's on. The intangible is

29:46

a really high level. But if he heads

29:48

to Alabama or Duke, I mean, they're getting someone

29:50

that will be, you know, a preseason All

29:52

-American. I'm going to guess Duke.

29:54

I'm going to assume Duke, uh, you know, probably

29:56

by the time you're listening to this podcast,

29:58

he has committed to Duke and he has, uh,

30:00

stabbed a wooden spike right through my heart

30:02

because I love his game. I, uh, love all

30:05

the wazoo guys. I feel like I watched

30:07

them as caterpillars and I watched them grow into

30:09

butterflies. Ruben Shinye Lu, perfect example, who just

30:11

won the national championship of Florida, former wazoo guy,

30:13

another testing the waters candidate that is fascinating

30:15

that I assume is going to dive into the

30:17

pool. Uh, the ringer big board right now,

30:19

they haven't been at number 30, but. Tahad Pettiford,

30:21

we obviously saw some amazing highlights from him

30:23

this season. He was a star at Auburn. He

30:26

was coming off the bench. It seemed to

30:28

be okay. A lot of NBA teams liked the

30:30

fact that he was okay with coming off

30:32

the bench. How far in the pool is he?

30:34

Do we think there's a chance he comes

30:36

back to Auburn or do you think he's leaning

30:38

into the NBA? Like, where are we right

30:40

now with Pettiford? I

30:42

think, I don't to speak for him. I think

30:44

there's a good chance, you know, Auburn gets him

30:46

back, had a dynamic freshman season, certainly has, you

30:49

know, momentum to build. I think he's

30:51

going through, you know, pre -draft process. I think

30:53

a little inkling. He's really good

30:55

friends with Dylan Harper, same agency out

30:57

there in Santa Barbara doing pre -draft

30:59

together, from my understanding. But

31:01

yeah, I think he probably has a chance to

31:03

go back. But yeah, super dynamic freshman season.

31:05

He's one of those guys that's real easy to

31:07

tell. He can play basketball, right? But

31:11

yeah, that'd be a big story,

31:13

that announcement, either way. Yeah, I

31:15

love that. Another big story and

31:18

a fascinating story. RJ Lewis, which

31:20

obviously the media reporting has been

31:22

that he is going to go

31:24

pro. Rick Bettino has said

31:26

his goodbyes. He is starting pronouncing his name

31:28

differently now. And now it's RJ Louise. I

31:31

think he has officially moved on

31:33

to his new crop of players. But

31:35

RJ Lewis is fascinating because again,

31:37

he is a star. He's the reigning

31:39

Big East player of the year.

31:41

I don't really know what his NBA

31:43

perspective. you know, ranges as

31:45

far as the draft. I do know that he

31:47

would be a valued commodity in college basketball

31:49

and probably a guy that a lot of people

31:51

would pay for, but a lot of people

31:53

have also assumed that he's going to stay in

31:55

the draft. Like what, what is the RJ

31:57

Lewis test the water scale right now? Like how

31:59

far in is he? That's

32:02

a good question. He's kind of become one

32:04

of these like loaded names, right? With the

32:06

whole situation from the tournament. Um, like you

32:08

were astutely put, um, you know, Petino was

32:10

putting out on social media, like all season,

32:12

like, He'll be going to the NBA next

32:14

year, type stuff like that. He

32:16

also said he shoots like Joao Embiid, right?

32:19

What was that? Yeah, he said that's

32:21

who he sent him tape of and he

32:23

changed the shot to shoot like Embiid. Incredible.

32:26

Interesting. Yeah, I think that's an

32:28

interesting one for sure. He'd be a really good

32:30

college player. I think he'd get drafted

32:32

if he stayed in somewhere in that second round. He

32:35

improved a bit as a shooter this year. Great defender.

32:39

Yeah, I'm intrigued to see which way he

32:41

goes. What do you think? What do

32:43

you think he's had it? Yeah, I mean

32:45

I just think that like a lot

32:47

of teams haven't really kicked the tires because

32:49

they assume that it's already done. But

32:52

every single mock draft that I see, I

32:54

mean, I don't see RJ Lewis. So I mean,

32:56

I guess they're assuming that there's some sort

32:58

of two ways situation. He can work his way

33:00

into a deal, which I'm sure he could.

33:02

He's obviously a very talented player. And I do

33:04

think he could almost be a Jalen Wells

33:07

type situation where RJ Lewis goes to a team.

33:09

They immediately like what they see from him.

33:11

He gets signed and he ends up playing like

33:13

starter minutes or at least like, you know,

33:15

real rotation minutes within a season. Cause I do

33:17

think he is that good. And I think

33:19

defensively he's going to stand out to a bunch

33:21

of teams. So I understand from his mindset,

33:24

like as a player, he thinks like, of course

33:26

I can go play in the NBA. I

33:28

can translate to the next level. But with the

33:30

way that it ended at, you know, St.

33:32

John's, I thought that he would come back to

33:34

St. John's have a year where he's really

33:36

that guy. We all know he is the guy

33:38

and he goes on a run. But now

33:40

that he's open, I'm like, if you're North Carolina

33:43

and you need somebody to kind of be

33:45

your lead star of your team, like, I mean,

33:47

there's a lot of teams out there that

33:49

would that would really, you know, why

33:51

would you not call him? Why would you

33:53

not go try to bring him in? And it

33:55

sounds like he's committed to the pro game,

33:58

but that would be a fascinating situation. You know

34:00

what I mean? Like if one of these

34:02

blue bloods that are sitting out there that need

34:04

to make a splash, go after RJ Lewis,

34:06

why not? You know what I mean? At least,

34:08

hey, offer him 3 million, 4 million, the

34:10

Rodney Rice deal. I mean, that's

34:12

a pretty good deal. You know, if you're

34:14

RJ Lewis, that's better than being on, you

34:16

know, some minimum contract playing out in, you

34:18

know, South Dakota. right? Shout

34:20

out to the Pentagon. But you know, that,

34:22

that, that's what it is, right? Yeah.

34:25

I think, I think the G -league is

34:27

better lifestyle than most people probably assume

34:29

in the media. They talk about, you know,

34:31

these G -league guys as if they're like,

34:33

it's the way that guys in the 80s and the

34:35

90s talk about like their time in the NBA,

34:38

right? They're like, I used to wash my jersey, you

34:40

know, Barkley's like, I used to, I used

34:42

to shower in my jersey. That's how I

34:44

wash my jersey. And then, you know, eventually

34:46

someone would be like, no, you didn't, you

34:48

know what I mean? Like that's, That's how

34:50

it goes. It's a mythology, which we all

34:52

love, but yeah, you're right about that. But

34:54

I do feel like if you're in a

34:57

situation where you're RJ Lewis and you kind

34:59

of had this weird exit with Rick Petino,

35:01

you've kind of been cut out after having

35:03

this amazing season. I mean, even

35:05

if you're Villanova, why would you

35:07

not? If I'm Kevin Willard and I'm already playing

35:09

the villain role anyway, you know what I mean?

35:11

Why would I not call RJ Lewis and say,

35:14

We'll give you the keys to this program and

35:16

you'll get your full chance to get revenge, you

35:18

know what I mean? And you'll play in the

35:20

same conference that you already know and love, right? Like

35:23

that that's worth the call to me

35:25

Yeah, I was going through the portal

35:27

yesterday and there's there's few difference makers

35:29

at the top like he could be

35:31

potentially I think it'll come down him

35:33

and some of these heavy hitters that

35:35

are kind of doing both But might

35:37

be leaning one way combines in two

35:39

weeks in Chicago Not

35:41

only will scouts be there agents will

35:44

be there a lot of college coaches

35:46

will be in their power taking at

35:48

the Marriott meeting with agents meeting with

35:50

players because like you said, I mean

35:52

some of these and IO rev share

35:54

kind of packages are competitive to You

35:56

know rookie scale contract at least for

35:58

a year. I mean I mean end

36:01

of first round like 27 pick 28

36:03

pick 29 it starts descending, but it's

36:05

like, you know, three million ish I

36:07

mean, early second round, a of these

36:09

guys get on team friendly deals where

36:11

it's like, you know, four years, 8

36:14

.5 million with a bunch of team

36:16

options where, hey, if you're a guy

36:18

you think, hey, I can make two

36:20

plus for a college team, kill it,

36:22

become a big name, and then get

36:24

a better situation for next year, it's

36:26

like, that's pretty attractive. Right

36:28

and if I mean look what Walter Clayton

36:30

just did he just played himself into like a

36:32

mid first round pick by just going to

36:34

he goes down to Florida He makes it work.

36:36

He has a great season a great couple

36:38

seasons ends up being a mid first round pick

36:40

So I mean there are paths if you

36:42

win to make yourself available and end up one

36:44

of those guys as far as sleepers There's

36:47

obviously sleepers you and I are a big fan

36:49

of sleepers You said you had a list

36:51

of like 30 guys He just rattled off like

36:53

maybe you know three or four guys that

36:55

you have labeled as sleepers in this draft that

36:57

you really like. Yeah. So

36:59

it's interesting. I think the sleeper

37:01

kind of status in the draft

37:03

has changed, right? Cause the sleepers

37:05

are like a Cedric Coward, a

37:07

neat Clifford, they tend to

37:09

get identified earlier now because they're the marquee

37:11

portal guys. Well, and the draft guys are

37:13

so, everyone's so smart now that like everybody's

37:16

already in, you know what I mean? It

37:18

used to be like these guys were, you

37:20

know, how could you find Brandon Pajimski or

37:22

how could you find a Jalen Williams at

37:24

Santa Clara? But now it's like everybody knows

37:26

everything and the stuff gets regurgitated and passed

37:28

around. So it's like nobody can really hide

37:30

anymore. Everybody knows everybody. So it's, it's hard

37:32

to even find and qualify as a sleeper

37:34

like we used to. But, you know, for

37:36

the, for the sake of the, the fan

37:38

at home, we just call sleepers, but everybody's

37:40

known. Everybody's. We're all woke, you know what

37:43

I mean? We all see. Yeah, I'll kind

37:45

of keep it in the middle. So I'll

37:47

say some guys that, you know, me going

37:49

through and preparing for some film sessions. I

37:51

think guys like Will Riley, LeBaron Phylon, Joan

37:54

Berenger, who's playing over

37:56

in Europe, guy like Noah

37:58

Senge, Yannick, big man

38:00

for Penn State. Guys

38:02

like that, I mean, they've been, you know,

38:04

commodities, like you said, like everyone's known.

38:06

I think Will Riley is an intriguing name

38:08

to track throughout the pre -draft process, really

38:10

caught on late for. Illinois in the

38:12

big 10, you know, six foot eight, really

38:14

wiry, right? Like he has, he's going

38:16

to put on a lot more weight when

38:18

he gets to the NBA. Um,

38:20

terrific feel for the game. Good passer. They

38:22

really, you know, enabled him to make reads

38:24

and play make for others down the stretch.

38:26

And I thought it was really impressive, the

38:28

toughness and kind of like the competitive streak

38:30

he flashed in the big 10, playing as

38:32

much older players. The Baron Phylon, we actually

38:34

talked about him early in the season, right?

38:36

I think we talked about it when he

38:38

played. your Tar Heels and Chapel Hill. I

38:41

mean, he's, he's up there with kind of

38:43

the Tahads, right? Where he's just so electrifying

38:45

to watch with his pace. He's awesome in

38:47

the open floor, great passer,

38:49

can finish with both hands. He's

38:51

kind of that like connector type

38:53

guard that we see a lot

38:55

in the playoffs playing off these

38:57

like initiating wings on these big

38:59

time NBA teams. Right. Joan Barringer,

39:01

who plays over in Europe, you

39:03

know, late bloomer, one of the youngest guys in the

39:05

draft. super explosive fluid

39:07

rim runner, black shots. He's kind

39:10

of like a developmental pick. Noah

39:12

Senge is the second youngest player in

39:14

the draft behind Cooper Flag by like three

39:17

days, something like that. Elite

39:20

tools, right? Like he's like near

39:22

six foot 10, really long, gangly. He's

39:24

producing in Germany right now on Ohm,

39:26

which is a really good competitive

39:28

team in Euro Cup. Another name, I

39:30

gotta get a shout out to Mike

39:32

Rhodes. I think he's probably one of

39:34

the most underappreciated coaches from our evaluation

39:36

lens in college basketball. He

39:38

went and got big man Yannick,

39:40

Switzerland big man from Northern Illinois. His

39:43

numbers weren't the loudest the past three years

39:45

in college, but he's someone like we talked about

39:47

with the dynamic of the second round. If

39:50

he stays in, and I've talked to

39:52

a couple of different scouts, he's like

39:54

someone who could like teams want to

39:56

get him. On a workout early because

39:58

like he could end up just like

40:00

staying in the draft and get picked

40:02

in the second round Just because you

40:04

know big men that can rebound set

40:06

screens block shots are scarce in the

40:08

NBA especially You know towards the end

40:10

of the depth chart on a two

40:12

-way I'll go through a bunch of

40:14

names here real quick. I was at

40:16

the Portsmouth Invitational. Yeah, please. Yeah, that's

40:19

I Think it's like 70 years now.

40:21

It's like big -time official NBA like senior

40:23

combine past couple years pretty interesting with

40:25

you know some of the guys this

40:27

year like are in the portal while

40:29

playing and you don't really know the

40:31

eligibility of guys it's kind of a

40:33

mess but um maybe not the most

40:35

like star power last year we had

40:37

Wazoo's finest Isaac Jones we had Henry

40:39

Freeman who got drafted Ray J Dennis

40:41

who ended up getting it two way

40:43

with the Pacers some of the guys

40:45

you know talking to different you know

40:48

scouts these are kind of the group

40:50

that impressed or stood out you know

40:52

every scout kind of has their different

40:54

sleeper and some won't mention a guy

40:56

because they actually want them Right, of

40:58

course. Kobe Sanders from Nevada was pretty

41:00

good, you know, big guard, good playmaker,

41:02

good mid -range, good feel. Got

41:05

to put on a little bit of

41:07

strength. Chance McMillan from Texas Tech was outstanding,

41:09

right? Like he's not exactly the most

41:11

coveted archetype, kind of like an undersized two

41:13

guard, but from all counts, great person,

41:15

dynamic shooter, and just kind of like makes

41:17

plays. Nate Santos. just a guy that

41:19

pops up like on the Pacers or something

41:21

where you're just like, oh, is that

41:23

Chance McMillan? Oh, yeah, that's right. Yeah, I

41:26

love his game. Right. He's just, he's

41:28

one of those guys, right? He'll get it

41:30

done. If people like you and you

41:32

can make shots and you don't like make

41:34

dumb plays, there's kind of a role,

41:36

right? Right. You can find a spot, right?

41:38

Yeah. Nate Santos from Dayton

41:40

had moments. Good shooter. Curtis

41:43

Jones from Iowa State

41:45

was really productive running the

41:47

show. Nellie Jr.

41:49

Joseph. Was very productive

41:51

shout out tomorrow Bates from Missouri has

41:54

some fans He was kind of one of

41:56

these highly acclaimed high school recruits couldn't

41:58

get it going to Indiana Goes to Missouri

42:00

was really productive this year Kind of

42:02

gives like a Derek Jones junior vibe to

42:04

his game You know what I mean?

42:06

Like I could see people falling in love

42:08

with like him as a wing You

42:10

know talking themselves into it. Definitely. I mean,

42:13

I'll be I'll be transparent here when

42:15

I'm a poor Smith. I'm like, all right.

42:17

We're the wings, right? Right.

42:19

That's the most scarce role. Like where are

42:21

the wings at? Sounds

42:23

like a commercial. Moussa Sisei

42:25

was productive. Jonathan Pierre from

42:27

Belmont, productive. Cameron Matthews, productive.

42:29

And I think one of

42:31

the guys that really stood

42:34

out was Victor Lockin from

42:36

Plumson. Big fan. Rebounds, contest

42:38

shots, has good feel and

42:40

like DHOs, but. Dominated

42:42

Duke at home, right? He had Carolina Duke

42:44

back to back and dominated both games, got

42:46

double doubles and was the player of the

42:48

game. So Victor Lockett, good name and no. Definitely.

42:51

And then last couple I'd say

42:53

is Jameer Watkins is currently, he'll get

42:55

invited to the combine. He

42:57

was at the combine last year, could have stayed in the draft,

42:59

he would have got a 2A or late second round, went

43:01

to Florida State. Their season wasn't, you know,

43:03

what they thought it could have been. He'll

43:06

be an interesting name to track. Carter Bryant, maybe

43:08

not a sleeper. He's like a McDonald's All

43:10

-American, but. maybe not the loudest stats of

43:12

some of these other freshmen, but like... I

43:14

think the rigger has him top six on

43:16

their draft board, which is why. Okay, here

43:18

we go. Yes. So if that, if

43:21

that is where he ends up, I doubt

43:23

he's going to go back to school. But I,

43:25

I assumed he was like a fringe first,

43:27

early second guy. But yeah, I mean, a lot

43:29

of people, like you said, people

43:31

won't winks. So they see him, they

43:33

know Iguodala went to Arizona once upon

43:35

a time. They have pieced those two things

43:38

together and Carter Bryant stock has shot

43:40

to the roof. So, you know,

43:42

he's another fascinating one for sure. Yeah.

43:44

I think he stays into probably a

43:46

top. 16, top 17 pick.

43:48

Um, Sorber for Georgetown got injured.

43:50

So he's an interesting dynamic as

43:52

well. Um, started to generate a lot

43:54

of buzz with Georgetown and then put his

43:56

name in the portal. That, I mean, cause

43:58

that, that's another one where like when he

44:00

did not. Okay. So one of these blue

44:02

bloods, like he would be, they would all,

44:04

they would all be over Thomas Sorber. So

44:06

good for a Cooley keeping him out of

44:08

the portal. Definitely. And the last

44:10

one I'd say is kind of an

44:12

interesting college basketball dynamic. Miles Burt for

44:14

San Diego state. Didn't

44:16

have his best, you know, last

44:18

couple of weeks of the season weren't his greatest.

44:20

He was really good in January. Started to

44:22

tell her off a little bit. Shooting

44:25

percentages dropped down. Some

44:27

of his, you know, areas of growth kind of

44:29

got exposed a little bit, especially in the

44:31

first four. But he'll be invited

44:33

the combine. He already

44:35

has announced he didn't enter the portal.

44:37

He'll return to San Diego State if

44:39

he withdraws from the draft. If

44:41

he withdraws, you know,

44:43

we're witnessing. something

44:46

we don't see a lot in college basketball

44:48

at this point. San Diego State was able

44:50

to potentially keep him, keep Magoon

44:52

Guoth, great name, great player. And

44:54

they end up having one of

44:57

the more returning cores in the country.

44:59

So that should be fascinating to

45:01

track. But Sleepers, like I said,

45:03

it's getting a little bit more difficult

45:05

to name them. Rasheer Fleming ended up being

45:07

a big name at St. Joe's. Neat

45:09

Clifford exploded in the tournament. I'm

45:11

trying to think of any other Sleeper. It's hard

45:13

to be a Sleeper now. It's hard to be

45:16

a sleeper. Everybody knows everybody. Everybody knows everything. And

45:18

if you don't know that they, that they know

45:20

it, they will tell you, I promise you, that

45:22

is the world that we live in. The Kias

45:24

are everywhere. Um, last thing before

45:26

we let you go, you saw these guys

45:28

at the hoop summit. I saw them at

45:30

the McDonald's, all American game, the 2025 class.

45:32

We got Darren Peterson. We got AJ DeBansa.

45:35

We got Cameron Boozer. Those were the three guys

45:37

who were kind of considered consensus in consideration

45:39

for the number one pick, but there is another

45:41

guy that has kind of come out of

45:43

the woodwork. And I saw it in real time,

45:45

Nate Amin, and he just committed to Rick

45:47

Barnes in Tennessee. You saw him in

45:49

person, just your first impressions of what you saw from

45:51

Amin and what do you like about him? And

45:53

why could he be in that group? Because I've had

45:56

even some people reach out to me where they're

45:58

like, maybe Nate Amin is the guy, you know what

46:00

I mean? So what did you like in person?

46:02

And then we'll let you go enjoy the rest of

46:04

your day. Yeah, definitely heavy hitting

46:06

class should be really exciting to see

46:08

how they all develop going to big time

46:10

programs. That's awesome for college basketball fans.

46:12

I've been fortunate seeing Nate over the past,

46:14

you know, three, three and a half

46:16

years in the, on the East coast. He

46:19

has just grown. He's kind

46:21

of grown into his body.

46:23

His skillset continues to develop

46:25

excellent approach, you know, development,

46:28

development driven. He's just,

46:30

you know, long six, 10

46:32

effortless shooting. has a

46:34

solid feel for the game, is

46:36

starting to evolve defensively. The steps for

46:39

him, I spoke with him about this.

46:41

He's pretty self -aware. He's

46:43

just got to get stronger, right? He

46:45

gets bumped off his spots. He talks about

46:47

it. He's like, I'm sick of being

46:49

bumped off my spots. I got to hit

46:51

the weight room, sharpen my ax with

46:53

Rick Barnes. But yeah, he'll be fascinating to

46:55

watch. I think he's firmly in that

46:57

conversation. He was awesome in practices at Hoop

46:59

Summit. Probably someone that really took advantage

47:01

of that platform. It's kind of

47:04

weird. It's like you're in these practices

47:06

with all these players. They're all going to

47:08

the same All -Star circuits or whatever, but

47:10

it's like a hoop summit. The

47:12

only people in the building are like select

47:14

media or whatever. And it's just like all the

47:16

executives that like determine the draft. So

47:18

it's always interesting to see which guys really turn

47:20

it up. Whereas I don't blame some of the

47:22

guys for being like, oh man, this is my 30th

47:24

All -Star game. I haven't been to school in two

47:27

months. Like I'm tired. But I

47:29

think his engagement level was really impressive. It

47:31

wasn't that productive in the game, but. Yeah,

47:33

Darren Peterson wasn't there, but he'll be Yeah.

47:35

That's how I knew that Darren Peterson was

47:37

in the conversation for the number one pick.

47:39

Cause Adidas is like, yeah, he's not going

47:41

to anything Nike, which I have nothing but

47:43

respect for, you know what I mean? I'm

47:45

like, I heard that in my respects went

47:47

up an echelon. Like I said, you don't

47:49

say Derek Rose, John Wall, Russell, you don't

47:51

like put guys in that group cause it's

47:54

unfair, but I think Darren Peterson, he could

47:56

climb up into that group. And you mentioned

47:58

like guys that rise to the occasion. We

48:00

had the similar thing with the McDonald's practice,

48:02

right? It's all, select media members, NBA execs

48:04

that are watching these guys. Tunde Yesifu, he

48:06

turned it up. You know what I mean?

48:08

Like, I'm not saying he's to be the

48:10

number one pick or anything, but Kyle fell

48:12

in love with him, our producer. And,

48:15

you know, just meeting him, talking to him,

48:17

you're just like, this kid's awesome. So I feel

48:19

like Tunde Yesifu is another guy that's like

48:21

a gamer. He saw, he saw Brad Stevens across

48:23

the room and he's like, Oh yeah, I'm

48:25

going to be the best player in the scrimmage.

48:27

And that's a special trait, you know, people

48:29

that can kind of turn it up. That's something

48:31

that you want to see and these guys

48:33

can see it early. So, you know,

48:35

that's that's the good stuff. Those are the good traits. Those

48:37

are the things that we look for. Jacob, where can we

48:39

find all your work and we'll let you go enjoy the

48:42

rest of your day, man. Lee

48:44

Kim, two words. Look it up anywhere. It

48:46

should come up. We have a bunch of

48:48

film sessions dropping soon on our YouTube. Coming

48:51

out today, Nick Clifford, who should

48:53

be top 25 pick conservatively from

48:55

Colorado State was one of the

48:57

best players in the tournament. Nick's

49:00

awesome. We had an awesome film session. A

49:02

couple of the heavy hitters coming. I don't want

49:04

to say names. These schedules are crazy with

49:06

these players. I don't know how the order of

49:08

how these are going to drop, but that'll

49:11

be coming out in the YouTube every other day

49:13

or so. And then we'll have a new

49:15

big board up on leakim.com. And yeah, just tracking

49:17

everything. Combines in two weeks. We'll be there

49:19

in Chicago. Just keep pushing forward.

49:21

Yeah, man. Love it. Appreciate you coming on

49:23

the show as always. We will have you back.

49:25

A true friend of the program. Go follow

49:27

Lee Kim on all the platforms. Watch all the

49:29

videos and we will have you back soon.

49:31

Thanks, Jacob. Yes, sir. Love being on. There

49:36

you have it Jacob Myers appreciate him coming

49:38

on the show as always enjoy watching the

49:40

growth of leak him These guys doing doing

49:42

great breakdowns and Jacob's working all the circuits.

49:44

He's everywhere He was at the hoop some

49:46

and he's gonna be at the draft combine.

49:48

So we'll have him as a nice source

49:50

He is a true friend of the program

49:52

doing boots on the ground and letting us

49:54

know what is out there giving us some

49:56

intel Let's do some shout outs quickly before

49:58

we get out of here again. We're in

50:00

the off season So we're having some fun.

50:02

I wanted to give a shout out to

50:04

Tyler Shucks dog if you We didn't see

50:06

this Tyler Shuck at draft at Louisville quarterback

50:08

at draft in the NFL draft. It was

50:10

a very beautiful moment, but his dog, a

50:12

golden retriever, just a good boy and just

50:14

having a great time celebrating, just trying to

50:16

get in on the celebration. It was beautiful

50:18

to witness. So Tyler Shuck, shout out to

50:20

you. Shout out to your dog.

50:22

Shout out to the Uber Eats guy

50:24

that walked onto the court during the Loyola,

50:26

Chicago, Duquesne game. I totally, you

50:28

know, a lot of things happened during the college basketball

50:30

season. You forget about things, things kind of get lost

50:32

in the sauce, lost in the shuffle, whatever. you want

50:34

to say. Um, but shout out

50:36

to a friend of the program who sent

50:38

this video, uh, to me and reminded me that,

50:41

uh, that did happen. And, uh, you know,

50:43

just, just a great moment in college basketball history.

50:45

Like that's the, the new age that we

50:47

live in, right? I mean, we talk about how

50:49

great it is. Now we have Uber Eats

50:51

and DoorDash and all these things. And, um, even

50:53

in college basketball games, we have delivery guys

50:55

walking onto the court. And Kyle, you and I

50:57

in New York, we, we saw this new

50:59

economy with the delivery guys, like where they're like

51:01

a biking gang. Yeah. like

51:03

gangs or just blocks, you know, whether

51:05

I think they're posted up outside like a

51:07

concentrated restaurant neighborhood and they're just, you

51:09

know, there's eight of them smoking cigarettes and

51:11

waiting, waiting to get their shop,

51:14

waiting to get that notification. That

51:16

was crazy, that part of Brooklyn. But I was just going

51:18

to say it. And that's why you got to make sure that

51:20

you check the, uh, leave it at my front door instead

51:22

of handed to me. Cause those, those dudes will hand it to

51:24

you. Even if that means walking across the court. You

51:27

can be getting married and like at the altar

51:29

and a new breeds guy will walk up to you

51:31

at the altar and be like, here's your McDonald's.

51:33

You know what I mean? Like that is, you're right.

51:35

Like you, if you don't check the right box,

51:37

these guys are absolutely insane. They got to get to

51:39

the next thing. They be waiting to figure out

51:41

what your deal is. So they're just going to go

51:43

to where it says. And they also won't five.

51:45

So they're not just going to throw it outside like

51:47

a scoundrel. You know what I mean? They got

51:49

to protect their own pride as well in their business.

51:52

But again, shout out to the Uber Eats guys. Quite,

51:54

quite a motorcycle situation we got going

51:57

on in New York city. They're dominating

51:59

the streets, mopeds, motorcycles, whatever they got,

52:01

everything's happening. Let's do some more shout

52:03

outs, college basketball related shout out to

52:05

North Carolina wing, Drake Powell. He is

52:07

quote unquote, 100 % in on the

52:09

NBA drafts. If you listen to this

52:11

show, I told you that like about

52:13

a month ago, We went to the

52:15

McDonald's All American thing and basically his,

52:17

you know, powers that BCAA basically

52:19

said he's going to stay in the draft

52:21

and he's got a first round grade. I

52:23

told, you know, Kyle Mann, our guy, this and

52:26

Kyle Mann told me that, you know, they

52:28

don't give first round grades out that early.

52:30

And San Vasini said that they don't give

52:32

first round grades out that early, but guess what?

52:34

They did. And he's a hundred percent in

52:36

and he is going to be. by

52:39

all accounts going to be picked in the NBA draft. So

52:41

shout out to Drake Powell. Thomas Howe,

52:43

by the way, who was incredible

52:45

during Florida's run, he will be back

52:47

to play some college basketball. So

52:50

very excited about that. And

52:52

he is a grew up a Florida

52:54

fan is a obviously going to be a

52:56

star next year in college basketball. So

52:58

Thomas Howe welcome back to Florida. Excited to

53:00

see that team was Xavier and Lee

53:02

another star in college basketball that says he

53:04

wants some more. He's coming back BYU

53:06

is very own Richie Saunders. So we are

53:08

going to get. the full BYU basketball

53:10

experience next year. We're going to get Richie

53:12

Saunders next to AJ DeBansa. I mean,

53:14

my goodness, could you ask for anything else?

53:16

That's going to be great. Um,

53:18

another big name, another big fish that was

53:20

out in the portal, Simi and Wilcher, AK

53:22

Sim, St. John's very own who

53:24

was groomed and grow and grew under,

53:26

uh, Neath Rick Patino. He is now

53:29

going to spread his wings elsewhere. He

53:31

is going to play for Sean Miller

53:33

at Texas. Um, so Sean Miller

53:35

gets a good one there. Guy he knows obviously

53:37

from his big East days. And I think

53:39

Semotra would be great at Texas. I'm excited for

53:41

happy for him. Terrence Archineau,

53:43

another star at Houston, a bench guy,

53:45

seventh guy on their team. He is

53:48

going to go play for NC State

53:50

and Will Wade. Will Wade has put

53:52

quite a roster together. Andrew Slater, who

53:54

is loved by the internet streets. They

53:56

love this guy. And he is now

53:58

the GM for Will Wade well. So

54:00

they are cooking something up down there

54:03

in Raleigh. So that's something to keep

54:05

an eye on. Aaron Bradshaw has committed

54:07

to Memphis. And I saw the headline.

54:09

I just want to shout this out

54:11

penny hardaway a lot of people say

54:13

that like he has these made -up gripes

54:16

and things The headline that was on

54:18

my SEO like for to get me

54:20

to click on this was Aaron Brad

54:22

former five -star Aaron Bradshaw Commits to

54:24

surprise school That's crazy You know what

54:26

I mean? Like Memphis is not a

54:28

surprise. Penny Hardaway goes after five stars.

54:31

This is not like he committed to,

54:33

you know, I'm not even going to

54:35

say a school because it would be disrespectful. But

54:37

to say Memphis was a surprise school, I think Aaron

54:39

Bradshaw, that would be, it was a good look

54:41

for him that Memphis still wanted him after what he's

54:43

shown so far. So, you know, Memphis, I got

54:45

your back, Penny, I got your back. Shout

54:47

out to Andre Iguodala, the second

54:49

he is son of Andre Iguodala, as

54:52

you'd expect. He is committed to Baylor.

54:56

I find this shocking because

54:58

Bryce James is at Arizona. Andre

55:01

Iguodala's kid should be at Arizona, but instead

55:03

he's going to be at Baylor. So that's

55:05

the tune day. Let's go. Him

55:07

and Tunde. Right. That's a good one. That's a

55:09

good, that's a good connection. Um, I kind of

55:11

like Baylor that they didn't have a team. They

55:13

did the Calipari. Like we, I talked to the

55:15

team, there is no team. Um, and now they're

55:17

building a team. And I liked that, uh, Tunde,

55:19

yes, if you will be the star of that

55:21

team. Um, speaking of second generation stars, I want

55:23

to send, uh, some thoughts, some prayers. It does

55:25

feel like things are trending in the right direction.

55:27

We don't know intimate details, but, um, for what

55:29

little I have gathered, it seems like it's moving

55:32

in the right direction. But we love meeting this

55:34

kid. So I just wanted to shout it out.

55:36

Elijah arenas. Um, just a tragic

55:38

story and like that video being leaked and

55:40

everything is tragic in its own way. But,

55:42

um, you know, just, uh, the nicest

55:44

kid and you and I both talked about

55:46

how great he was as a kid and

55:48

to see that story, we were very concerned.

55:50

But, um, again, trending in the right

55:52

direction. Sounds like he's going to be okay.

55:54

So Elijah arenas, we're, we're thinking about you.

55:56

And we said that he's out of the

55:58

induced coma. So that's, that's good. Yeah. Thinking

56:01

about you, buddy. Thinking about your Elijah,

56:03

we're fans. Another sad story, but something we

56:05

have to point out because he is, you

56:07

know, a star in his own right. RIP

56:09

Mike Patrick. If you're a

56:11

fan of ACC basketball, you're a fan of

56:13

a lot of sports. You've heard Mike

56:15

Patrick, but to me, Mike Patrick is an

56:17

ACC basketball guy, ESPN play by play.

56:19

For 36 years, he died at the age

56:21

of 80 and love Mike Patrick and

56:23

so many moments and memories and things are

56:25

tied to Mike Patrick and hearing that

56:27

voice. So I wanted to give him some

56:29

love, give him a little bit of

56:31

shine there. Some more just random musings and

56:33

things that are happening. Some more shout

56:35

outs. Duke and Michigan are finalizing an agreement

56:37

to play a neutral site game at

56:39

Capital One Arena in DC in February of

56:41

2026. We mentioned we needed non -conference in

56:43

January and February. Duke is answering the

56:46

bell. Gonzaga is the ones that really started

56:48

this obviously because they had to, but

56:50

it feels like other teams, new bloods, blue

56:52

bloods, true bloods, all the bloods are

56:54

all in and they're going to be doing

56:56

it as well. So shout out to

56:58

Duke, shout out to Michigan for making that

57:00

happen. Shout out to Eden Thomas. This

57:03

is interesting former NBA center former

57:05

Q's player He he shared his feelings

57:07

on Kevin Willard his son Malcolm

57:09

was a former top 100 crew committed

57:11

You know who just transferred from

57:13

Villanova to Dayton and This is what

57:16

Thomas said he said coach Neptune

57:18

the coach who recruited Malcolm gets fired

57:20

and incomes coach Kevin Willard with

57:22

a reputation of let's just say not

57:24

being truthful and honest and trustworthy

57:26

But we wanted to give him a

57:28

chance and not go by what

57:30

everyone else says and and he puts

57:33

an ellipse and another ellipses. Let's

57:35

just say he has that reputation for

57:37

a reason. So Kevin Willard, um, turning

57:40

into maybe the BAD guy, but, uh, you

57:42

know, some more, some more Scuttlebutt there. Um,

57:44

you know, as far as like what's going

57:46

on, but Villanova fans, uh, Chris Jenkins, friend

57:48

of the program, he's saying that we're there

57:50

on the helping up. The Rodney Rice thing

57:52

was tough though. That was a tough loss,

57:54

but I think Villanova will figure it out.

57:56

But, um, You know, they're not mincing any

57:58

words there. Another thing to keep an eye

58:00

on in the NCAA, what are you doing?

58:02

Pull things. This is a call out more

58:04

than a shout out. This is

58:06

from Sportico. NCAA is selling

58:08

the gambling data to sports books

58:11

via Genius Sports. So I don't

58:13

know what you do If you're out

58:15

there betting, you're under his players. Just know

58:17

that the NCAA is selling your data. And

58:20

you know, this is a pro, like I said, this

58:22

is a pro league. with amateur

58:24

applications, but it's pro sports and everybody knows

58:26

it. And we have known it for a long

58:28

time. And we might as well admit it

58:30

to ourselves and to the rest of the world

58:32

and to, um, you know, ourselves. I think

58:34

at the end of the day, but there you

58:36

go. A couple of quick fleeting NBA playoff

58:38

thoughts. The playoffs are great. Um, there's a lot

58:40

of people that talk shit about the NBA,

58:42

rightfully so during the regular season. But when the

58:44

playoffs start, you really learn what's going on.

58:46

I think they've done a great job of letting

58:48

it be physical. It's been a lot of

58:50

fun to watch. I'm a big fan of the

58:52

war. Wolves situations that are

58:54

happening. Anthony Edwards, he credited Tom Kreen

58:56

for part of his success at Kreen sends

58:58

him messages daily about playing to the

59:00

best of his ability. So I wanted to

59:03

give some love there. I love the

59:05

college connection. I love Kreen reaching out to

59:07

Anthony Edwards. And if you don't love

59:09

Anthony Edwards, you don't enjoy watching this guy

59:11

play. He is so fun to watch

59:13

that game for 43 points, nine rebounds, six

59:15

assists and like that's not even. Even

59:18

though that's an incredible stat line, that doesn't really

59:20

tell you the full story of how great he

59:22

was. Uh, I mean, this guy guarded Austin Reeves,

59:24

he guarded Lebron, he guarded Luca and he loved

59:26

every second of it. And, uh, it was fun

59:28

to watch. So shout out to Anthony Edwards. That's

59:30

been great. Uh, shout out to Steph Curry. My

59:33

goodness. Um, the, the,

59:35

the own off stat at

59:37

halftime of, uh, that game,

59:39

uh, three against, um, Uh,

59:42

sorry, that game three, uh, it was 20

59:44

minutes that he was in the court. They

59:46

scored the 46 .17 to 38 but they're

59:48

obviously not playing in this game off the

59:50

court. Uh, for four minutes, they score zero

59:52

points or 0 for eight from the floor.

59:54

So Steph Curry literally is a one man

59:56

band. He is the Swiss beats of basketball

59:58

and it's incredible to watch. And I've enjoyed

1:00:00

watching Jimmy Butler fall in love with Steph

1:00:02

Curry, like calling him Batman and having all

1:00:04

these quotes. And it's like the only man

1:00:06

that knows the chaos is Steph Curry. So

1:00:08

it's been great to watch. And then last

1:00:10

thing, Pacers bucks on ESPNU called by Corey

1:00:12

Alexander, the most college basketball game we've ever

1:00:15

had in the NBA playoffs. So a shout

1:00:17

out to ESPN for trying to blend the

1:00:19

two. We got Jay Billis calling playoff games.

1:00:21

We got Corey Alexander calling playoff games. They

1:00:23

are trying to remind us that it is.

1:00:25

basketball, the same game, not the same sport,

1:00:27

but the same game. And I like that

1:00:29

they're trying to push that agenda. And

1:00:31

it's not because they don't have enough announcers, obviously

1:00:33

it's about them pushing that agenda of college basketball

1:00:35

being relevant and what it needs to be, which

1:00:37

is what we really appreciate. And we appreciate everybody

1:00:39

tuning in to the off season as we figure

1:00:42

out what's going to be the footing, you know,

1:00:44

kind of of next season and just the wackiness

1:00:46

of what we're going to see in the off

1:00:48

season. Kyle, it's great to have you back. Do

1:00:50

you have any shout out to anything we miss?

1:00:52

anything that you need to point out to the

1:00:54

people before we get out of here and let

1:00:56

everybody go enjoy the rest of their week. Well,

1:00:58

I got an easy one. We'll just shout out

1:01:00

to Crown Jewel Off Rip. Really

1:01:03

great. Yes. Two full weeks there.

1:01:05

Awesome, awesome, awesome. That

1:01:07

was incredible. I

1:01:09

wanted to shout out this situation and

1:01:11

I was actually going to be a little

1:01:13

more upset about it until I clicked

1:01:15

on a post article who always explains all

1:01:17

the Rick Petito stuff so much. better.

1:01:19

But I saw this guy, Jocelyn Sanon. Is

1:01:21

that, that's how you say it? I

1:01:23

couldn't even be upset because I didn't know

1:01:25

how to say his name completely. But

1:01:27

I was like, first of all, I was

1:01:30

like, um, you know, he, he

1:01:32

transfers and then he declares for the

1:01:34

draft. But, uh, the post says, you know,

1:01:36

he's not going anywhere. I was just

1:01:38

like, is this, is this normal? Basically he's

1:01:40

saying he's, he's going to stay at

1:01:42

St. John's, but he's declaring for the draft

1:01:44

because he wants feedback from NBA, you

1:01:46

know, scouts or execs or whatever. Is

1:01:49

this normal to transfer to a school and then

1:01:51

put your name in the draft? Because he could

1:01:53

totally get drafted even though he's pretty sure he's

1:01:55

not going to. I just thought it was, this

1:01:58

thought it was funny that the headlines are that

1:02:00

Rick Petino's recent transfer just declared for the draft.

1:02:02

I was like, usually you put in for the

1:02:04

portal and the draft, you don't sign with the

1:02:06

team and then declare for the draft, right? Yeah.

1:02:08

all new. I don't know. Well, this is agents.

1:02:10

You know what I mean? Like everybody tries to

1:02:12

figure out like who the boogeyman is, like who's

1:02:15

deciding all this sort of stuff. And like, yeah,

1:02:17

it's like, we can't blame the players. We can't

1:02:19

blame, you know, it's like we try to blame

1:02:21

like a random uncle or, you know, cousin or

1:02:23

so. Everybody wants to blame somebody. But in reality,

1:02:25

it's the agents, especially nowadays, before it was like

1:02:27

agents in disguise as, you know, the cousin or

1:02:29

the uncle, but really it's still the agents. yeah

1:02:32

i mean he's a five star he was number

1:02:34

five shooting guard in the class and when you

1:02:36

have those sort of credentials in your back pocket

1:02:39

and i remember at the beginning of the season

1:02:41

right when we did our top 100 intriguing things

1:02:43

we did bobby hurley and we said that he

1:02:45

wanted to be a one and done acquaintance was

1:02:47

a two and done um so yeah i mean

1:02:49

i think he just has that pedigree his agent

1:02:51

has obviously talked him into like mba teams want

1:02:53

to see you go through the process but i

1:02:55

think he ends up back At

1:02:57

St. John's, you know what I mean? I think

1:03:00

so too. But I was like, let me just,

1:03:02

before I say it, I found a post article

1:03:04

to see. And, but the first article I read

1:03:06

was like, Rick Petino has to start scrambling because

1:03:08

he just lost his guy. That's why he got

1:03:10

Darling, you know what I mean? Dylan Darling is

1:03:12

like, and Ian Jackson is, I know he told

1:03:14

Ian he's going to be the point card of

1:03:16

the future, but Ian can play off ball too,

1:03:18

you know what I mean? So it's like. But

1:03:20

there's still, it seems like there was

1:03:23

still getting depth in the backcourt. My

1:03:25

only concern with them is that it feels

1:03:27

like the first season was offense, last season

1:03:29

was defense, and this season is back to

1:03:31

offense, you know? And

1:03:33

I worry about the defense, but Zuby, you

1:03:35

know. Zuby's going to handle business. Yeah, I

1:03:37

wasn't really upset. I mean, you never like

1:03:39

to see that headline. But I

1:03:41

was just like, is this normal to

1:03:43

sign the papers to jump over schools? And

1:03:45

then you were like, oh, by the

1:03:47

way, I'm going to declare. So I guess

1:03:50

it's just nothing abnormal anymore. Anyway,

1:03:53

so there's that. that. Love

1:03:55

that. I forgot to mention

1:03:57

this last thing. And this is honestly

1:03:59

the last thing. Petino, back

1:04:01

to Petino. It's the off season

1:04:03

this Saturday. The Kentucky Derby is happening. Do

1:04:05

you know this Kyle? Yeah, I know what

1:04:07

you're gonna say. Yeah, you love the ponies.

1:04:09

Rick Pazzino has three horses in the Derby.

1:04:12

He is Grande journalism and Sandman and

1:04:14

I'm putting I think press box loves

1:04:16

journalism by the way The official horse

1:04:19

at the press box. I did hear

1:04:21

that and I do think I'm in

1:04:23

on that I think I'm gonna have

1:04:25

to put something on journalism as well

1:04:27

So he has a stake in three

1:04:29

horses. He's saying yes. Yeah, that's how

1:04:31

horses work Yeah, it's like, you know,

1:04:33

I own 10 % I don't even think

1:04:35

you own that much, but I mean,

1:04:37

let's just say you own 1 %

1:04:39

of journalism 1 .5 % of grande or

1:04:41

grandi I think it's Grandi, because Ariana

1:04:43

Grande is not Ariana Grande, it's Ariana

1:04:46

Grande and then Sandman, which is a

1:04:48

great name. Honestly, I'm

1:04:50

going to put a little change on that.

1:04:52

Let's put some change on journalism because honestly,

1:04:54

like this is a big metaphor for like

1:04:56

kind of where we are. Like I think

1:04:58

Rick Pettino is team journalism, you know what

1:05:00

I mean? He wants like a certain standard

1:05:02

of journalism to come back. There are some

1:05:04

moments where Rick Pettino will be looking at

1:05:06

like someone in his press conference like, what

1:05:08

is this JV shit that I'm doing right

1:05:10

now? You know, we need a capital J

1:05:12

journalism and we need it to be back

1:05:14

in full force and the press box is

1:05:16

pushing it. We are also going to push

1:05:18

it as well. And, uh, yeah, let's, let's

1:05:21

all watch the Kentucky Derby. Let's all pool

1:05:23

for Rick Petino's horses and let's all have

1:05:25

a great week. That's Mike Rapoli's too. I'm

1:05:27

just liking everything that guy's doing. Cause he

1:05:29

clearly likes to have credit for, uh, for

1:05:31

what he's doing with the transfer portal and

1:05:33

everyone says the Johnny's one. So, uh, I'm,

1:05:35

I'm just liking everything just to make sure

1:05:37

he feels the love, buddy. Thanks, Mike Rapoli.

1:05:39

I think his is grand day. Uh, so

1:05:41

maybe I'll throw a little change on that

1:05:43

too. Throw some, throw some change on grande

1:05:45

as well. And shout out to Mike and

1:05:47

shout out to all the bad guys out

1:05:49

there that are trying to make the landscape

1:05:51

work, uh, including Kentucky, who has changed their

1:05:53

entire athletics department because whatever it takes to

1:05:56

win, baby, that's what it is. That's the

1:05:58

world that we live in. Uh, this has

1:06:00

been one shining podcast. Again, great NBA ahead.

1:06:02

The NFL draft is finally behind us. So

1:06:04

I hope everybody can lock into the playoffs.

1:06:06

You can enjoy some good basketball. We will

1:06:08

be back next week and we will be

1:06:10

talking about it all and we will have

1:06:12

some fun guests. We appreciate you tuning in

1:06:14

and we will see you then. you
