Hello, everyone. This is Mark S with Cloud

0:29

points podcast. It is a

0:31

very nice sunny Sunday afternoon that we're recording this here in

0:36

Southern California a little probably a little bit of hot where you are. Right, Chris? Yes.

0:41

That voice is My c copilot on most of these podcast,

0:46

Chris s, Christopher s dot com.

0:49

He's a published author, and

0:53

I'm currently working on some screen plays and just in articles,

0:59

not articles, short stories, which which are always

1:02

terrific. Chris is all over the inner webs. I

1:05

mean, you can find them on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Good reads,

1:10

yeah, you name it. The public library, the

1:12

library. Yep. Yeah. And also the Bargain bennett at Walmart

1:17

with my. For that. Yeah. Chris and I

1:19

share a a shelf. Anyway, how are you, Chris? How's it going

1:23

today? Everything's going fine. Yeah. Good. Good. Good.

1:26

How about do? Well, good. I mean, the

1:29

political turmoil is a little bit disturbing, but

1:31

I'm trying not to... Focus too much on it because I have other things

1:35

that I have to accomplish as as well

1:37

as we all do, unfortunately, the we're in a, very difficult

1:42

period. I... And I'm not saying it's for

1:45

1 candidate or the other. I think both

1:47

candidates are problematic. So, we'll have to see how it turns

1:50

out, It's gonna be... You know, there's an old Chinese curse may you live in interesting

1:55

times. Yeah. We certainly do. But we are a podcast

2:00

about writing, so let's get to that. I

2:03

Okay. I assume

2:06

that you're filling your your your nights with

2:09

some good entertainment, what even been watching?

2:13

I've been watching Hbo

2:16

house of the Dragon. Oh, yeah. Okay. K.

2:19

And I found an older, network Tv series that I've started watching

2:26

in plain sight. Oh, yeah.

2:29

Marshall. Yes. Yeah. I like witness and witness protection. Yes.

2:34

Yeah. Yeah. I remember that. I remember. I

2:37

remember it being pretty good. Yes.

2:40

Yeah. Well, that's cool. Yeah. That's... That's a

2:42

that's... I've been watching... I still been watching

2:44

my my columbus. So U.

2:48

But I watched... So I watched walking both versions of walking

2:52

tall. U, the 1 with Joe Baker, and then

2:56

they remade it with Dwayne Johnson. Yeah. And I was kinda surprised with Dwayne

3:01

Johnson remake how closely they hue

3:04

to the original movie. Yes. They took away his family. They didn't have

3:08

a family connection, and so... Yeah. And then

3:11

I also, got a kind of a weird

3:13

bug up my butt. Last night and I watched, it came from outer space.

3:18

Oh, that's an old. Yeah. With... It was

3:21

so old. It was color. They color the

3:23

black and white. And it was...

3:27

I, you know, I thought I'd have this really warm fuzz.

3:31

Nostalgic feel. Yeah. Well, I guess I'm just

3:34

too much of a Sonic these days. I kept thinking, oh, come on. You know?

3:38

It was it was interesting, Barbara Rush was

3:41

in it. She was beautiful. My god. Yeah.

3:43

What a beautiful actress. So... Yeah. Anyway, it was it was interesting, but

3:48

I'm I'm... There were other ones that I... The re

3:52

the reason I... I watch this 1. They have a bunch of

3:56

them on prime if you're interested. Right just

3:59

look up old Sci f or something like

4:01

that and or look up, it came from outer space, and it will give you suggestions.

4:05

But it got... It had been a golden globe winner that

4:10

and I I thought that was odd because

4:12

I didn't know the golden globes existed back then. Yeah. But I looked it

4:17

up. I wanted to see the right were and 1 of the writers was Ray Brad.

4:20

Whoa. Yeah. Not at is best.

4:23

Yeah Just writers Anyway, I'm a big Brad S. Obviously.

4:29

He's he's a legend, but I... He, you

4:32

know, he did. I I think we all forget. He did a

4:35

lot of a lot of screen writing in his younger

4:38

days. So... Yes. So, we're Plot points podcast. We are bi

4:49

monthly we're primarily about script writing.

4:54

We do touch on other subject like the weather.

4:58

Which, you know, we're both eminent qualified to

5:01

speak upon. We both have meteor

5:05

degrees and Oh, yeah. Yeah. Actually, we're that

5:08

we're we're we're probably better meteor all because

5:11

we just look out the window. That's, you know, I would.

5:15

Anyway, yeah. I wonder why they don't do that. Whether they just don't look outside.

5:19

Okay. Never mind. And so,

5:22

we are enjoying our, you know, our our our roles as,

5:28

cutting edge screen writer talker.

5:31

So I hope you're enjoying the podcast. You can

5:34

reach us at 09:19 scripts, which is 9197274787

5:40

and also at plot points dot com or

5:43

and we're on all of the... We're everywhere. I mean, we've been picked up

5:48

and aggregated everywhere. So,

5:50

Itunes or Apple podcasts, Amazon, Google,

5:54

you name it. So, Chris Yes.

5:58

They just announced the nominations for the emmy

6:01

these. Yes. I was just about to say

6:03

that, Chris. And I was gonna say do you have any

6:06

common some opinions? No. No.

6:09

Because because I'll just look like an Idiot. But

6:14

but there's some... You know, what I... What I noticed, there's a lot of... It seems

6:17

like there's a lot more emmy categories than there are

6:22

Yeah. For film. And I'm I'm not... Guess I'm

6:25

not surprised by that, but they have, for instance, you know, best

6:29

guest actor in a drama series. 4.

6:34

But the the major categories are pretty expected.

6:37

I guess, unfortunately, except for Netflix

6:41

this year was the big

6:44

the big winner as far as nominees, a hundred and 7 nominations. Whoa.

6:48

Again, around across 35 programs.

6:51

Yeah. Fx oddly enough, which I I'd never

6:55

considered them that big of a, powerhouse, but, I guess,

6:59

I'm gonna have to start. They had 90

7:01

3HV0 91,

7:04

Apple Tv v 72, But walt the Walt Disney company

7:09

has projects on Fx Abc b, Hulu, Disney

7:12

and others, and they they had a hundred and 83

7:15

nominations as a as a company. Wow. Yeah. Wow. Wow. So

7:20

anyway, but... Yeah. No. I'm... I unfortunately have

7:23

not seen... I'm not... I don't I get Netflix

7:28

and Prime, but I don't get, like, H

7:30

hbo o Apple Tv, Fx, What

7:33

those are a lot of the big you know, like, s gun is on Fx.

7:38

U. And it got a ton of awards.

7:40

It got... It probably got the most Yeah.

7:43

But, like, the morning show, mister and missus Smith. I've never seen those

7:47

because they're in they're on they're on a different just... They're

7:50

on different streaming services that I don't subscribed

7:53

to. Now do you have Fx? Comes up

7:56

sometimes. Yes. Okay. I just wondered if you'd

7:58

seen show gun? Because that's the 1 I'm really interested. I

8:02

Yes. I saw the first

8:05

episode. Okay. But Fx has

8:09

slight. Problem with their shows, and I never went

8:13

any further on at the site. Okay. Show done was incredible. U.

8:19

I'm mean, absolutely incredible. Oh, okay. But the

8:23

Fx issue. Okay. Well, I'll have to talk to

8:26

you about that after we get off the air, But... Okay. Yeah. It was... It, you

8:30

know, I'm I'm sure I watched the show, and I think all these shows are probably

8:34

deserving Mh. Of the nominations. I know the... I've

8:38

I really love the crown all these years and

8:41

Well represented in here. And the Gil age, I guess, too is getting

8:45

a lot. Yes. I've seen that. That's H hbo. Yeah. That's getting. That's really

8:50

good. Is it? Okay. Yes. Alright.

9:00

Also, Chris, you and I have already talked

9:03

about this, but, a favorite of ours, a legendary comedian, comedic actor, Bob New.

9:10

Yes. Passed away. And so we... You and I have talked

9:15

about the ending of He had 2 shows that I would consider

9:20

seminal, the Bob New heart Show. Yes. And

9:24

New hart, which he played a, both shows just incredibly funny. And

9:30

Yeah. The second 1, he played an inn

9:32

keeper in some New England state

9:36

And, of course, at the end of that

9:38

series, the last episode, you and I have, I

9:42

think both agreed. It's probably 1 of the best

9:44

endings ever of a Tv series. Yes.

9:48

Because he wakes up... They end to show the the show in

9:53

New England, and they cut to a bedroom and him,

9:57

and, he's in bed, but he's in bed with Suzanne P who

10:02

played his wife on the new heart show. And she says, Bob, what's wrong and she

10:07

says, I just had this weirdest dream, implying that he dreamed the entire

10:12

hilarious. It was just So unexpected and whoever

10:15

came up with that is just a comedic genius.

10:19

So I mean, you remember that? That show.

10:21

Absolutely. Yeah. That's the 1, and that show itself

10:25

was very funny. It had... Yes.

10:29

Is it... Is it Sanders. I can't remember with his... What the

10:33

actors name, but he used to come in with his 2 brothers and said, hey. I'm

10:36

I'm Larry and this is my brother Daryl

10:39

and my other brother, Daryl. And those those

10:41

3 characters. That's an example of, characters that they inserted for comedic relief

10:48

and then just just became that, you know,

10:50

big. Big huge. Huge characters.

10:53

Absolutely. Yeah. They had whole story lines with them.

10:56

Yeah. So... Yeah, The new heart show, or or

10:59

new heart. It's called was called... The new heart show was the first 1 and then

11:02

new heart. Yeah. But he had... He played... He was in elf,

11:08

he was in young Sheldon. He was in the big bang theory. Yes.

11:13

Hot in hot in Cleveland. And and and he... A I guy I

11:17

haven't seen him yet, but it... Because I'm kinda still going through Nci, but he was

11:21

in Nci. Just really an incredibly. I have a

11:26

I have an interesting quote from him later on that... Before we

11:30

do your your writers quote. I'll do a quote from

11:33

him. Okay. But he was in Murphy Brown,

11:35

The Simpsons, wow. I mean, I haven't seen it yet.

11:41

U. Like they said this past Saturday.

11:44

Saturday live. U. Opened.

11:48

Using 1 of his routines. Yeah. Well, he

11:51

was in and... He was a in 1 of their shows. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

11:55

Terrific. Just AAA world class,

11:59

you know, just... He was a favorite on talk shows because he had a very dry

12:02

sense of humor, very dead pan delivery.

12:05

And he had the s, which people

12:09

suggested he get her do away with. Yeah. But

12:12

it was... If he became his trademark. Anyway... Yeah. Well, rest in peace, mister New,

12:17

you get. He was... I think he was 93,

12:20

something like, I think you're right. Yeah. So

12:30

Again, where where Plot points podcast my a

12:32

c host, chris S, christopher s dot com. Has,

12:37

it has how many books, Chris? 8 8 books

12:42

9 ninth 1 in the works. Still

12:45

Yeah. But you you not... You can need to

12:48

shake that tree a little bit, man. I know. I know.

12:51

Anyway, he's also a a terrific short story

12:55

writer I published an ant called blood Fiction,

12:59

and he's well represented in all volumes,

13:03

number 3, I'm working on number 3 right now putting it together, but he Chris was

13:07

the first person I called when I decided

13:10

to do this because I knew he had

13:12

a... I mean, you've done dozens of short stories.

13:16

Yeah. In articles and, screen place and speaking of all that. What

13:22

are you working on right now? Rewriting

13:26

a screen white. Oh, okay. I

13:29

hit midpoint, and I suddenly went

13:35

Oh my gosh. I'm going the wrong direction.

13:39

At midpoint, I'm going, this is

13:43

where the focus should've have been. Oh, u. He

13:48

talked should've have been from the beginning. U.

13:51

So I'm rewrite.

13:54

Oh, okay. Very passionate.

13:59

Good. Good. Yeah. This I think you... You

14:02

told me this idea and I love it. Yeah.

14:05

I can't see... So I can't wait to see what you make what you make of

14:08

it. Yes. That, and I

14:13

entered my Sci fire western. Mh.

14:17

Into the creative screen writing,

14:22

unique voices contest. Okay. Good. Good. Good. Good for you. Let's

14:28

see what happens. Yeah. Those are, you know, contests are some of the only ways that

14:32

we as writers these days can get to

14:36

anybody that matters. Yes. So I'm always recommending that. Yes. So,

14:42

yeah. The good good for you. Good for you. I'm I'm sure it'll do well.

14:46

I hope so. This... I... The Sci f

14:48

Western was the 1... Yeah. Okay. Cool. Yeah.

14:51

Star. Star. Okay. Cool. Can't... Well we'll see.

14:54

Well, that's exciting. It's always. You know, you and I have talked in the past about

14:57

when... Now I never was much of a prose writer when I

15:02

was younger, I was mostly screen writing.

15:05

But I can remember writers talking about going

15:07

to the mailbox for that. Yes. You know,

15:10

because you send in a query letter, Or or you send in your manuscript or

15:14

whatever, then you had to wait for the mail to come in order to find out

15:17

if you... Yeah. You know, you're you're basically

15:19

going and looking for the rejection letter because that's happened most 99 percent of its time.

15:24

But but now it's email. Now we gotta...

15:26

Now we gotta haunt our email accounts to

15:29

find out if we're... What were in the

15:31

running. So... Yeah. Yeah. I just finished... So

15:35

I took 1 of my pilots and expanded

15:37

it feature. Yes. And I just finished that.

15:41

Right. Yeah. It was it was fun. It was a little bit harder than I

15:46

thought. It was gonna be, and I got to

15:48

about... Yeah page 90, and I knew I was

15:52

only about 10:15 pages away from the end.

15:54

Yeah. And I knew what I wanted, and I just

15:57

kinda went blank. I couldn't figure it out.

16:01

So I went swimming, and

16:04

in the pool, I figured it out. It came to me. Yes. As my subconscious mind

16:09

was counting was counting a laps. I wasn't

16:11

thinking too much beyond that, and it just

16:13

popped into my head. Because So I finished

16:16

that sent it to a producer, and she's

16:18

reading it right now. And then, putting together blood fiction 3, which

16:24

I'm at that stage where I've pretty much

16:26

got everybody, all the cats are herd, including you.

16:32

But I need to get the, some of the legal ease and and Yeah. Things done.

16:35

And then working on another,

16:39

article for creative writing magazine, and I wonder if I'm allowed to... I

16:44

don't know if I'm allowed to submit to that to that contest because

16:48

I do... I'm an independent contractor with Create

16:51

screen writing magazine, but I am part of

16:53

that, part of there. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you might

16:58

have to use suit them. Yeah. But,

17:01

you know, I eventually, they have to write... They have to

17:05

give me the bet my my... Me... I

17:07

mean, I have to admit to it. I can't. Yeah. Yeah. That. Even mean if I...

17:11

Yeah. There's just... Yeah. So... It's no big

17:13

deal. There's plenty of contest software. Create screen

17:16

right magazine is a good 1. Yeah. So, yeah. I hope I hope you do well

17:20

with it. So Chris, we we...

17:30

I I messed up, and we do... We

17:33

did different top 5 lists. So. So you

17:36

did 1... Group 1 list, and I did another 1,

17:39

and I apologize for it. I,

17:43

I guess I just was you know, I just had AII

17:48

had this in my head that this was what we were gonna do. Anyway, Okay so

17:52

you're going to do the top 5 what.

17:55

Remakes. Remakes. Okay. Movies that were remade

18:00

between 2020

18:03

24. Okay. Go ahead. K.

18:07

I will tell you the first 3 on

18:09

my list, I prefer the remake. Oh, okay. And the

18:16

last 2 I prefer the older.

18:20

Okay. Perfect. Anyway, I'm gonna start off with

18:24

Casino Royale. Oh, yeah. Alright.

18:29

Okay. And I don't know why is 1 kept popping

18:33

in my head. Free key Friday.

18:36

Oh, yeah. That's a Jamie lee Curtis and

18:39

Lindsay Lohan. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think

18:42

it was originally. Yeah. I hated mills,

18:45

that's right. Yeah. Hayley Mills. I remember her.

18:47

Sure. And then for.

18:51

Oh, yeah. Boy. That was... Yeah. That was

18:53

the Cohen Brothers. Yep.

18:57

Okay. Now the last 2 on, my list, like I

19:00

said, they got remade, but I prefer the

19:04

older version. Mh. The first 1 is

19:08

the girl with the dragon tattoo. Oh, yeah.

19:12

Yeah. The last 1 is

19:17

for magnificent 7. Yeah. And I haven't seen

19:20

the remake. But I'm big fan of the original, obviously.

19:25

Yeah. And, yeah. The

19:28

the remix got Den Washing. And Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawk and a

19:33

bunch of people. But the 19 60

19:37

version, miss Scott Steve Mc mcqueen. Yeah. Charles Bronson and James

19:41

K, Robert Vaughan.

19:44

Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yep. Absolutely.

19:48

Yeah. The... Well, I I really can't fight

19:50

the girl with Dry 2, I've read the books and I've I've the original. I... The

19:54

original 1, the Swedish... Version was blew me away.

20:00

So I totally agree. So I did the top 5 movies that

20:05

take place in the south. For some reason, III know we discussed it.

20:09

I... That's what I thought we had settled on. But... Yeah. So I started with no

20:14

country for old men. Okay. And

20:18

another, Cohen Brothers movie old brother were Art style.

20:23

Yeah. And then cold Mountain, which was

20:28

Anthony Men. I think it sets how you pronounce his

20:31

name. Just a terrific writer who died way

20:34

too young. And then walk the line,

20:38

which is the, you know, obvious,

20:42

the the Funny Cash. Danny cash in June Carter Cash.

20:47

Their their story. And then, Green book, which took place. Yeah.

20:52

Almost exclusively in the south. It that started

20:54

in New York and then Yeah. Then migrate

20:57

down south. So well, anyway, so I will, maybe next maybe

21:02

next podcast, you can do your top south,

21:04

and I'll do my top remakes. Okay.

21:08

We'll see how that goes. Yeah.

21:16

So folks, we are Pot points podcast.

21:19

Thank you for tuning in. We appreciate our

21:21

international audience. Although, Chris and I are still scratching our

21:25

heads at why you listen to us at all. It's yeah. It's like, we we know

21:30

where jeep. We're Brilliant, but, no. I I

21:32

I'm just kidding. I, you know, I don't know... We... I do this because both of

21:36

us do this because we really like it, but,

21:39

Chris, that's gonna wrap up or show. Do

21:41

you have a writer's quote? Oh, wait. I wanna do a a Bob New quote first,

21:46

and then you can do your writer's quote. Okay. So Bob New said, when I started,

21:50

I was doing all the good comedian I'd ever seen. Then I developed my own voice.

21:55

My routines are my natural way of looking at the world. And the reason I like

21:59

that so much is because that's just basically

22:01

saying, be yourself. Yeah. You know, you're... That even

22:05

as a writer, you should just be... Or you shouldn't try

22:08

to be hemingway way or or or, you know, Jed Mc,

22:13

Or Taylor Sheridan, you should address to try

22:16

be who you are. And that's what I loved about him. So... Yes.

22:20

Anyway, okay. So give us your your writers

22:22

quote for this this podcast yes. This is

22:25

from or Scott card. Okay. Great rider. Okay.

22:30

Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas every

22:35

everyday. The good right or the ones

22:39

who see 5 or 6 of them.

22:41

Most people don't see any. Yeah. That's absolutely

22:45

true. And even myself, I've done a lot

22:47

of writing, but I'm all always in awe
