Ralph Nader is a political activist, author, lecturer, and attorney. He is best known for his advocacy for consumer protection, environmentalism, and government reform. His first book, "Unsafe at Any Speed," was published in 1965 and established his reputation as a consumer advocate. Following the publication of Unsafe at Any Speed, Nader led a group of volunteer law students in an investigation of the Federal Trade Commission, which led to the overhaul and reform of the FTC. Nader established a number of advocacy and watchdog groups including the Public Interest Research Group, the Center for Auto Safety, and Public Citizen.Nader ran for President of the United States as an independent in 2000, 2004, and 2008.Nader is the author or co-author of more than 40 books. Dr. Lindsay A. Owens is a sociologist and economic policy advisor whose work focuses on economic inequality, poverty, housing policy, and recessions. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Groundwork Collaborative.
