Hey, Task Force, this is Jillian. Please

0:02

enjoy this preview of our movie

0:04

club episode on The Invisible Man

0:06

from 1933. A task force member

0:08

suggested this, so it's really cool

0:10

watching something and discussing something that

0:12

none of us had seen before.

Otherwise, enjoy this preview. Back with

0:20

Dr. Canley, he and another scientist,

0:22

Dr. Kemp, are looking in Griffin's

0:25

office for clues about his whereabouts,

0:27

his activities, and they found a

0:29

note. mentioning a strange

0:31

ingredient called monocane so

0:34

apparently experiments with this

0:36

were for like laundry

0:38

detergent and like erasing stains

0:41

maybe they were so yeah like

0:43

bleach bleach yeah because it sucks

0:45

all the color out of things

0:48

insane like back value it's like

0:50

whoa now they're like come on

0:52

the science of sound see

0:54

but in some like German

0:56

experiments super obscure things wrong

0:59

and the patience went mad

1:01

crazy so they're like uh-oh

1:03

we need to find him and let him

1:05

know no he's already mad I do

1:07

love a descent into madness but he's

1:09

already there at the start of the

1:11

film but he does get worse it's

1:13

so cool like how subtle it is

1:15

at first like yes he's very abrasive

1:18

and so you're just like okay

1:20

maybe it's just a rude man

1:22

and there's a lot of suspense

1:24

and tension building and whatnot but

1:26

I think it's really like Eventually

1:28

they do start to portray the madness

1:31

more and more, but I feel like

1:33

it is still subdued compared to today's

1:35

movies that are so big. And so

1:37

it can be, we're maybe desensitized to

1:39

it, but I think for this time

1:41

period it is so exaggerated that

1:43

he comes off as a monster and

1:45

maybe that's how he fits in that

1:47

monster verse a little bit. It's like

1:50

a human that's been manipulated by science

1:52

in some way and then there's evil

1:54

is kind of their formula. That's

1:56

a great point. Well, this evil human finds his

1:58

way to Kemp's house and sneaks in. He

2:01

demands to stay there with Kemp, threatening him, and

2:03

claims that he's his partner in crime, essentially.

2:05

It's kind of unclear what Griffin wants, but he

2:07

basically wants to rule the world with his

2:09

invisibility and do a few murders as he says.

2:11

Just a couple murders. Just a couple murders. Just

2:14

a get us to the powerful part. It

2:16

was interesting that he said that, you know, he's

2:18

like, yeah, we'll rule the world. But then

2:20

he's also talking about working on the antidote for

2:22

himself at the same time. And so I

2:24

didn't know how much of that was the madness

2:26

affecting him and he's having the struggle and maybe

2:29

they just kind of missed the mark on

2:31

delivering that. Or he just for some reason had

2:33

that goal and was like, yeah, well, rule

2:35

the world, then I'll go visible, and it'll be

2:37

the perfect crime. They'll never know it was

2:39

me. It was me. It was me. It was

2:41

me. It was me. It was me. It was

2:44

me. It was me. It was me. It

2:46

was me. It was me. It was me. It

2:48

was me. It was me. It was me.

2:50

It was me. He is mad. He is mad.

2:52

I agree. I think he tries to explain

2:54

it in the sense of like there are inconveniences

2:56

where like if you go down the stairs, you

2:59

normally you're used to seeing your feet. And

3:01

I think he doesn't want to be invisible. But

3:03

then later on he talks about the thousands,

3:05

nay, millions that he could make, you know, curse

3:07

for the, but not for me. I'll monetize it.

3:09

But you, you know. You can fall prey to

3:12

the badness because you'll use this army can be

3:14

my puppets or something. It's kind of like,

3:16

I don't want to get overly like artistic or

3:18

call it an allegory here, but it is

3:20

interesting where he's like, yeah, I want to cure

3:22

myself, this thing sucks, but I could really

3:24

use it, you know. No, that's fair. By putting

3:27

it on others. But I see what you're saying,

3:29

like, I kind of felt that along the

3:31

way. the results of his experiments, possibly how to

3:33

become not invisible, unclear. He makes Kemp drive

3:35

him back to the inn and they find the

3:37

town's people to decide what

3:39

to do about about the

3:42

man, if he's real. real.

3:44

Because some people don't,

3:46

it's kind of kind of like a

3:48

situation. They're like, you

3:50

guys saw all these

3:52

things these things happen and like a

3:55

bicycle moved on its

3:57

own and somebody got pushed

3:59

in the water you

4:01

guys were you that up.

4:03

making that up. Yeah, of goofy.

4:06

of goofy. The bicycle just of of.

4:08

off on its own

4:10

and then he's just just where

4:12

you just where he just like hat

4:14

and with the water. I'm

4:16

like, and stuff throwing in the water and

4:19

like it was funny, this

4:21

they man's a menace. Oh yeah this

4:23

monstrous were they were oh,

4:25

he's terrorizing the he's And monstrous

4:27

he did, he oh he's

4:29

a bike, like town feet.

4:31

all He threw a man's

4:34

hat in the water.

4:36

he threw a man's hat in the water like

4:38

playground bully stuff. That's one of

4:40

those things where were then,

4:42

you know, that's like like

4:44

you know you you freak out.

4:46

out you know think about the

4:49

the times that's rude. that's that's

4:51

rude yeah how How unbecoming of

4:53

him. him
