The podcast that made me fall in love with podcasts. Season 1 will always have a place in my heart.
Even if I do not think the topic will interest me, when I start listening I get hooked quickly because the story telling is so compelling.
This is the gateway podcast for so many people. I'd been listening to podcasts for many years when the hype for this one built up, and I enjoyed it just as much as everyone else who listened. The love for the show for most people ends after season 1's focus on Adnan Syed, but I'll defend both Season 2 and *especially* Season 3 as wholly interesting explorations of aspects of justice that I hadn't considered or researched before. Definitely start with Season 1 and enjoy that roller coaster...then give Season 2 a chance. If it's not your cup of tea, listen to Season 3 for sure!
Great first season, very good second season. Insta-listen whenever they crop up.
a podcast essential. quintessential true crime / investigation journalism
Excellent topics and story telling. Also I love Sarah Koenig.
My favourite podcast ever.
One of the first and still one of the best
One of the most entertaining podcasts I've ever heard (season one only though). The amount of tension they create using just vocal speech (with little to no audio music background) is amazing. Kudos to Sarah Koenig and team for such a monumental creation.
I thought it was very well done HOWEVER; I would’ve appreciated a bit more of an honest admittance if Sarah’s bias in favor of Adnon. Instead of just admitting she believes him and wasn’t telling the story with that bias, they continued to try to claim they were middle ground when they clearly weren’t.
Excellent real time story telling.
First season was good then it went down hill
Sarah Koenig is the queen of podcasting. Season 1 of Serial was a revelation and Season 2 was an engaging look at a complex topic, and much better than many give it credit for.
Serial was my first deep dive into the world of podcasts. Life changing for me for sure as it opened the door for me to listen to other shows, eventually host a show, and take part in a wonderful community of mostly like minded thinkers. But, like most of the other reviews, mine echos them in that Season one was certainly the best. And it is the only reason I can still give the show three stars. Season two I seemed to enjoy more than most however, season three was such a significant disappointment to me that I could not finish the season. The show is a must listen for everyone as its an experience I believe no one should be deprived of but I'd venture to say that the first season is the only one really worth finishing.
I loved the new direction taken in season 3!
It was nice to listen to the first podcast ever made! /sIn all seriousness, it would've been better if I listened to it at the peak of its popularity, but it was good anyway.
I wait anxiously for the next series to come out! I also still follow the first one since it was the best. You have to listen, great work by this team!
The first two seasons are great, though the second seasons has some rocky bits. I couldn't finish season 3. The shift from telling a single story to a group of stories was too jarring for me.
I loved Season 1 and 3, Season 2 I lost interest (I just didn't enjoy the focus). This show is what got me hooked on podcasts!I'm ignoring the extra two 'seasons' (Nice White Parents & The Improvement Association) dumped into this show in my rating. They were too different to what 'Serial' was. They're nothing like the show I started listening to in the first place; they should have been separate shows in my opinion, though I appreciate others opinions may vary.
