1:06
all of the work that is on
1:08
our YouTube page, on our TikTok, on
1:10
our all of the podcast platforms
1:12
that we reside, Apple Podcast, and
1:14
Spotify. Please leave us a five
1:17
star review if you can there
1:19
already. So many over there I need
1:21
to check how many I think we're in the
1:23
like at least 300 reviews Over on
1:25
that side of the fence and
1:27
go check us out if you
1:29
want more video versions of the
1:31
show You can check us out
1:34
in video format on Spotify and
1:36
on YouTube We've been getting some
1:38
some good love on YouTube. It
1:40
looks like it's moving in a
1:42
positive direction. So continuing to figure
1:44
out good ways to To make that
1:46
happen in those ways with things kind
1:48
of rolling in multiple directions So it
1:50
has been an okay week. It has
1:52
been a very busy week You might
1:54
not have seen of late, but you
1:57
might have seen if you are checking
1:59
out my work or checking out me
2:01
on LinkedIn, I talked a little bit
2:03
about next month or the end of
2:05
this month, my contract being over with
2:07
the current job that I'm at. So
2:10
I'm looking for more employment if you
2:12
know some folks who are looking for
2:14
an amazing community and social media manager.
2:16
Go check me out and check out
2:18
all that stuff. You can find out
2:20
all of that information on my Twitter
2:23
page and all the other places that
2:25
you can go to. to go find
2:27
that out. I think Kaleve Adams.com should
2:29
have information and ways to contact me
2:31
for all of that goodness there. So
2:33
that's one thing. Another thing is Summer
2:36
Games Fest is coming up very soon
2:38
and we'll be out there rocking with
2:40
the best as always checking out the
2:42
work that's happening in there. and getting
2:44
it in with all of our friends
2:46
and fam covering some of the best
2:48
games on the planet. So make sure
2:51
you were checking us out for Summer
2:53
Games Fest as well. Lots of goodies
2:55
to talk about this week. I don't
2:57
know if the information is good, but
2:59
I think the way things have been
3:01
moving has been good in an interesting
3:04
space. So I think let's get into
3:06
it this week with the 411. First
3:21
up on the four one
3:24
one is all about the
3:26
US president Donald J. Trump
3:28
botching everything that he touches
3:31
every which way every possible
3:33
way you could screw something
3:35
up This man is trying
3:37
to do it. He is
3:40
botching it every way that
3:42
you possibly can and you
3:44
know the section that is
3:47
here if you're watching us
3:49
in video form I labeled
3:51
this one Trump loves tank
3:54
controls because he is tanking
3:56
the US economy in ways
3:58
that have been unforeseen and
4:01
probably reminiscent of his first
4:03
term in 2020 and so
4:05
you know we are now
4:08
in in Trump too messing
4:10
it up Bugaloo in big
4:12
ways he has imposed tariffs
4:15
that are far wide far
4:17
and wide as of today
4:19
you know a couple days
4:22
ago and this is the
4:24
part is the problematic part
4:26
about all of this stuff
4:28
besides the economic anxiety that
4:31
is being put into the
4:33
space besides the economic and
4:35
instability that is happening through
4:38
these unreasonable and unfounded self-owns
4:40
that he is perpetuating through
4:42
these tariffs that he's putting
4:45
across the world which almost
4:47
two days ago were All
4:49
encompassing across the world, terrorists,
4:52
we're going to tariff everyone
4:54
up to a number and
4:56
a percentage that is going
4:59
to give us the advantage
5:01
to find a way to
5:03
bring manufacturing back and to
5:06
bring all those things back
5:08
to America. We have already
5:10
seen contrition and walkbacks and
5:13
failures and all of it.
5:15
already seen the walkback happen. The
5:18
funny thing as of today be
5:20
paused for 90 days across the
5:22
world except for China, which he
5:25
has imposed 120-something plus percentage tariff
5:27
on, and we're already seeing the
5:29
walkback happen. The funny thing about
5:32
all of this is his MO.
5:34
This has been the thing that
5:37
Trump has continued to do multiple
5:39
times throughout his presidencies. It is
5:41
so much so that we already
5:44
are calling it before we get
5:46
a chance to see the administration
5:48
maneuver and move on it. You've
5:51
seen this failure happen before, but
5:53
the problem winds up being that
5:55
for you at home, who are
5:58
a part of this American, if
6:00
you are listening to us in
6:02
America, a part of this ecosystem
6:05
in this economy, you are going
6:07
to feel all of it. All
6:09
the stuff, no matter who you
6:12
voted for, no matter what was
6:14
your political alignment in this thing.
6:16
We are all going to feel
6:19
the repercussions for the inefficiencies that
6:21
we wind up seeing and to
6:23
be fair ignorance that comes from
6:26
the White House with the work
6:28
that has been happening in our
6:30
economy. We've already seen multiple companies
6:33
try to figure out new ways
6:35
to circumvent or at least to
6:37
bolster their own work in how
6:40
they're going to battle some of
6:42
this stuff. And we're already seeing
6:44
companies now raising prices on certain
6:47
things. You know, we're gonna talk
6:49
a little bit about the switch
6:51
to pricing, but every company that
6:54
we've seen so far that has
6:56
a major exports, we've seen razor
6:58
back up and no longer say
7:01
that they're gonna deliver laptops to
7:03
the US while these tariffs are
7:05
happening. We just saw PlayStation Plus
7:08
announce and Sony announce that in
7:10
Latin American countries, what is it,
7:12
PS Plus is going to go
7:15
up in price. We are probably
7:17
going to see Microsoft go up
7:19
in price on Game Pass to
7:22
help regulate some of that stuff.
7:24
We will probably see something there.
7:26
And all of this is just
7:29
gonna be a problematic thing for
7:31
you. If you're a lover of
7:34
video games, if you are a
7:36
lover of technology, and we haven't
7:38
even gotten into all the other
7:41
things that he's proposed, you are
7:43
gonna have to spend an exorbitant
7:45
amount of. money to enjoy your
7:48
hobby and to enjoy the thing
7:50
that you usually go to to
7:52
distress you. The thing that is
7:55
wild about all of this is
7:57
that when you start to poke
7:59
at people's levers for entertainment and
8:02
things that you wind up needing
8:04
to push on or don't need
8:06
to push on because none of
8:09
these things needed to happen, you
8:11
then cause animus towards your cause
8:13
in a lot of different ways.
8:16
And again, it makes no sense
8:18
to put these tariffs, these retaliatory,
8:20
you know, tariffs on so many
8:23
of these countries, countries that don't
8:25
even have people on them. A
8:27
tariff, a space that had nothing
8:30
but penguins in it over the
8:32
past 72 hours. And to be
8:34
fair, there have been tons of
8:37
folks in the space who are
8:39
game lovers and game fans who
8:41
are who are championing this and
8:44
saying that this is a good
8:46
thing and that this is a
8:48
good thing that has happened and
8:51
we continue to see this notion
8:53
that we have been saying I
8:55
have been saying for many many
8:58
years over the past 10 years
9:00
of the show that you cannot
9:02
decouple politics from video games and
9:05
now we're in the the F
9:07
around and find out moment where
9:09
all of those things are coming
9:12
to pass in an actual way
9:14
And those folks are pretty quiet,
9:16
besides still championing the language that
9:19
they see from the administration, they
9:21
are not getting the benefits that
9:23
they supposedly thought that they were
9:26
going to wind up getting in
9:28
this deal. It is not happening.
9:30
It is not going to happen.
9:33
It's not going to be a
9:35
thing that is going to give
9:38
them what wins they were expecting
9:40
to get with this administration and
9:42
all of the anti-de-e-i wokeeness that's
9:45
happening. The only thing that's going
9:47
to be... Unwoke is your 401k.
9:49
Your savings, your investment. you know,
9:52
your safety net that you've built
9:54
for you and your family, the
9:56
things that are gonna be unwoker
9:59
is gonna be that. There's gonna
10:01
be all those pieces. Those parts
10:03
are gonna go away fast. So
10:06
if you have not been saving,
10:08
you have not found ways to
10:10
financially support yourselves or find some
10:13
stability in an already upside down
10:15
economic space, it's gonna be a
10:17
real hard time for you in
10:20
the next four years. I think
10:22
some of this stuff will get
10:24
pushed back on again. It always
10:27
does. I think. I think. The
10:29
folks who are in Trump's
10:31
pocket and in Trump's ear
10:33
are have seen a trillion
10:36
dollars come out of
10:38
the Investment market. We
10:40
have the S&P and and
10:43
the financial markets at their
10:45
worst levels that they've seen
10:48
in in a long time.
10:50
And that being the case
10:52
makes all of these things
10:54
even worse. So we wind up
10:57
seeing You know this language
10:59
excuse me this language
11:01
wind up popping up and
11:03
It doesn't actually have
11:06
a space to go to
11:08
it doesn't actually have a
11:10
maneuverability. It doesn't have an
11:13
actual space to land that
11:15
is if you look at it
11:17
reasonably Going to benefit
11:19
you in any form or fashion
11:22
so to connect that to
11:24
the gaming space the switch Switch
11:26
2, everybody was really excited
11:28
for. Everyone got up at
11:30
6 a.m. Pacific time to
11:32
go look at the switch
11:34
to announcement and was
11:37
really excited for it. And
11:39
then everybody saw the price and
11:42
was really upset and really
11:44
mad because they were like, oh,
11:46
that was not expected. The
11:49
company that usually comes
11:51
in under price in comparison
11:53
to the other two big
11:56
companies Nintendo and I'm sorry
11:58
Sony and Microsoft Right
12:01
now is pricing their newest
12:03
system basically at their console
12:05
prices while also Pulling back
12:07
on some of the tech
12:09
You're getting a new switch
12:11
to that has older technology
12:13
in it than the second
12:15
iteration of the switch You're
12:17
getting a LCD screen as
12:19
opposed to an Olet screen
12:21
there are some really good
12:23
changes in the way that
12:25
the new, you know, hardware
12:27
will be, I think it's
12:29
more sturdy, I think, you
12:31
know, the kickstand is better,
12:33
the different layers of things,
12:35
but me and the wonderful
12:37
folks over at DLC, the
12:39
DLC podcast with Jeff Kannada and
12:41
Brother, Spicer. You know, we
12:43
talked a lot about what
12:45
this looks like on their
12:47
show the other day, Christian
12:49
Spicer. looking at all of those
12:52
things and had a really
12:54
good discussion. I would say,
12:56
you know, if you're looking
12:58
for a much broader conversation,
13:00
a really in-depth one, go
13:02
check out my appearance on there.
13:04
But I think for me,
13:06
like, I'll remember and mimic
13:08
some of those sentiments. Yeah,
13:10
like... There are a lot
13:12
of things that are not great
13:15
about the switch to from
13:17
a technology standpoint. And I
13:19
think Jeff talked a lot
13:21
about them, like the camera
13:23
stuff is old and antiquated. And
13:25
even the folks from Nintendo
13:27
when when asked about it
13:29
said they did that specifically
13:31
to offset some of the
13:33
hardware benefits that are in
13:35
the piece of hardware. But you're
13:38
getting a crappier version of
13:40
basically video conferencing because of
13:42
it. And the price. is
13:44
basically going to be a
13:46
$500 device. And that's not even
13:48
determined yet because we still
13:50
don't know what the full
13:52
pricing is going to wind
13:54
up being because of the.
13:56
incoming terrorists that
13:58
that happened,
14:00
you know, uh,
14:02
today. Um,
14:06
and we'll see where that winds up landing. There
14:09
was a really interesting, uh, discussion
14:11
that was happening, or that has
14:13
happened over the past couple of
14:15
days when some folks from the
14:17
press spoke to members of the
14:19
brass over at Nintendo of America
14:21
and got some quotes from them.
14:23
Because I think a lot of
14:25
people when they heard the pricing,
14:27
they were like, Oh, well, this
14:29
is immediately a thing that we
14:31
can tie to the Trump tariffs.
14:34
Like again, like a lot of
14:36
these pieces of hardware are made
14:38
in multiple places across the world. Uh,
14:40
Nintendo specifically moved some of its
14:43
operations or at least this manufacturing to
14:45
Taiwan and Taiwan also got here
14:47
with a big tariff. I think that
14:49
has now been at least put
14:51
on pause. It hasn't been removed. It's
14:53
been put on pause for 90
14:55
days to potentially help stabilize some
14:57
of the markets, but that can
14:59
be erased at the whim
15:01
of a madman again. But
15:04
it was really interesting to
15:06
see what, um, Trump
15:09
talked about, or I'm sorry, not what
15:11
Trump talked about, what Nintendo brass talked
15:13
about when asked specifically about if the
15:15
terrorists were, uh, you know, moving the
15:17
needle in terms of the way that
15:19
this piece of hardware is going to
15:21
be priced. We haven't even talked about
15:23
the software going up to 80 bucks
15:25
for cartridges. That's a whole nother conversation.
15:27
But the folks over MPR
15:30
asked, uh, in an interview with
15:32
Doug Bowser, they said, some
15:34
Nintendo fans assumed that the Nintendo
15:36
switches $449 price tag accounts
15:38
for global tariffs. But after president
15:40
Trump's most recent announcements, could
15:42
this number increase in the United
15:45
States? Uh, Doug
15:47
Bowser says, Nintendo president, uh, he
15:49
says, what I can share is
15:51
the 449 price for the individual
15:53
SKU and then the 499 for
15:55
the hard rescue plus mega cart
15:57
world. Those are made based on
15:59
previous. tariffs, and there was no
16:01
impact from the previous tariffs on
16:03
those pricing. More in that pricing,
16:05
I should say, much like every
16:07
other company, I think the US
16:09
right now, we're in the process
16:11
of actively assessing what the impact
16:13
may be. We really have nothing
16:15
further to announce in regards
16:17
of pricing. So they said
16:19
also, what impact do you
16:21
expect the extra 24 additional
16:23
tariff, a 24% additional tariff
16:26
on Japanese exports? Oh, that's still
16:28
the same. That's 24. China has gone
16:30
up to 124. To have on your
16:32
business moving forward, not only for the
16:35
switch, but for everything that Nintendo America
16:37
sells. Doug Bouser says, as I mentioned,
16:39
we're just going to have to actively
16:42
assess what the impact may be, things
16:44
may change in the days ahead. So
16:46
we're just watching and trying to understand
16:49
what the impact may be and what
16:51
actions we may have to take afterward.
16:53
So, all of that to say. That
16:55
conversation has
16:58
changed a ton and
17:00
What that actually
17:02
means is So you now
17:04
have all of these discussions
17:07
happening you now
17:10
have all of these
17:12
maneuvers changing place
17:14
and you now have some
17:17
discussions here about
17:19
What does that mean
17:21
things moving forward?
17:24
And what that winds up
17:26
meaning is you now have to
17:29
adjust for those things in
17:31
a much bigger way because you
17:33
now have to deal with the
17:35
ideas that go along with
17:37
that. And what does that
17:40
mean moving forward for a
17:42
much bigger discussion around global
17:45
tariffs, what Nintendo
17:47
wants to do, and again,
17:49
like what Nintendo is trying
17:52
to do, changes. all the
17:54
time now because of the fact
17:56
that those discussions are now
17:58
different and If they were
18:00
already thinking about changing their pricing and
18:03
moving their pricing up, that changes the
18:05
way that I think Nintendo kind of
18:07
gets connected in those ways from a
18:09
fan perspective. Like I think folks in
18:11
the fan space are gonna be thinking
18:13
about this and being like, I thought
18:16
Nintendo were the folks who were gonna
18:18
be looking out for us in some
18:20
ways. Like I thought that they were
18:22
gonna be helping us to be able
18:24
to figure out what this means. And
18:27
what does that look like in those
18:29
grand schemes? Now that changes in a
18:31
big way, because I don't know now
18:33
if that price is gonna go up.
18:35
What does that mean for the price
18:38
of those things going up? And if
18:40
they do go up, what does that
18:42
mean for the future of everybody else
18:44
in the space? That definitely signals to
18:46
Microsoft and to Sony to potentially move
18:49
things up. We've already seen a fairly
18:51
large price when it comes to... when
18:53
it comes to the PlayStation Pro, but
18:55
with more hardware moving into the space,
18:57
conversations around games moving up to almost
18:59
$100 in some circumstances, everything is gonna
19:02
go up. And that means that everything
19:04
that's not made here is gonna move
19:06
and go up, and that means everything
19:08
else that is in the ecosystem from
19:10
supply chain to everything else is gonna
19:13
be changed in such a big way
19:15
because no one's gonna stop moving the
19:17
prices up. At this point That's going
19:19
to be the thing that's wild is
19:21
all this does is signal to people
19:24
to be like all right We got
19:26
to move the prices up again And
19:28
you're not going to move those prices
19:30
back down once they've set a new
19:32
a new bar for what those prices
19:35
are going to wind up being So
19:37
we're going to have to keep an
19:39
eye on this in a real way
19:41
and see what happens. See what happens
19:43
when? You know the next version of
19:45
these of these tariffs move, you know
19:48
conversations around games being super expensive and
19:50
now moving up again All of these
19:52
things are not good if you're if
19:54
you're a player of video games, you're
19:56
a player and a
19:59
person who loves technology,
20:01
everything is going to go up
20:03
and they're not going to go back down
20:05
for a long time, especially with the
20:08
way that Trump has been moving things and
20:10
the way that he's been honestly talking
20:12
about the space. And it's really this kind
20:14
of bully move that he's been trying
20:16
to do that honestly doesn't work. He's
20:20
not as strong as people are relating him to
20:22
be. It is not going to be a
20:24
thing where people are going to figure that out
20:26
and be like, Oh, well, Mr. Trump, United
20:29
States is going to just, you know, kowtow
20:31
to that and our countries are not
20:33
going to do that either. All it does
20:35
is make our ability to do stuff
20:37
even harder. So
20:39
I don't know where that's going to
20:41
go. It's not going to be very good.
20:44
It's going to be a very bad
20:46
thing to see, especially around Christmas time, especially
20:48
around all those moments when you're looking
20:50
to go buy that new thing and you're
20:52
like, I can't afford it. One, because
20:54
the job market is bad to I don't
20:56
have any discussion or income because now
20:58
the country is going to go into recession. And
21:00
I'm not going to spend any extra money
21:02
in spaces that I don't need to for
21:04
what people are. That's not the
21:06
way people spend money. People don't spend money that
21:08
they don't have for cool stuff and fun
21:10
stuff when you got to put food on the
21:12
table. So it changes a
21:14
lot of those discussions in a big way.
21:16
We're going to take a quick break because
21:19
I have a couple of quick things after
21:21
run and go do super fast. And we're
21:23

21:25

22:46
I hope you'll join me. Welcome
22:49
back to the spawn on me
22:51
podcast. Thank you so much for
22:53
hanging out during the break. A
22:55
couple of quick other stories in
22:57
the 411 for this week. Shout
22:59
out to the folks over at
23:01
compulsion games for south of midnight
23:03
south of midnight is getting fantastic
23:05
reviews across the board. It is
23:07
one of my favorite games of
23:09
the year. Please go make sure
23:11
you checking out our dope dope
23:13
dope dope dope review that we
23:15
got a chance to do a
23:17
little bit earlier in the month or
23:19
a little bit towards the end
23:21
of last month. I've been having
23:24
a blast with it. I think
23:26
again like it's dropping today if
23:28
you're watching the show live. It
23:30
is a fantastic noir almost Grim's
23:32
tale musical that is happening in
23:34
the deep south. I love the
23:36
game. I think it's beautiful. I
23:38
think it's stunning. I think the
23:40
artist fantastic. The acting has been
23:42
amazingly good and very very
23:44
fun. It is super cool. And
23:47
I think it's a game that you should
23:49
be putting on your radar and checking
23:51
out if you have not done so already.
23:53
I think that game is super good.
23:55
Like I think people who are fronting on
23:57
that game need to stop fronting on
23:59
that game. Huge shout-out to the folks
24:01
over on TikTok as well, who just
24:03
hooked us up with some loveliness there.
24:05
Linbo, thank you so much for the
24:08
love over there. Yeah, I think there's a
24:10
lot of stuff to dig into, but I
24:12
think if you really want to find out
24:14
my take on all of South of Midnight,
24:16
I think, go check out the review.
24:18
You know, I have some stuff
24:20
up on our TikTok and some
24:22
other places. You know, I think
24:24
those those those sentiments still rock
24:26
pretty hard. I've been playing it
24:28
on PC mostly and then played
24:30
a little bit on console and
24:32
again, like I think this game
24:34
is just brilliant. We're gonna have a
24:36
conversation with our friend who's been
24:39
rocking with us, you know, pretty
24:41
pretty often. and hanging out with
24:43
us getting in some really good
24:45
work there. So we're gonna have
24:47
a conversation very soon with them
24:49
around what we're gonna be doing. Sand
24:51
along who's been doing some fantastic work
24:53
in the space for a long time.
24:56
We're gonna have an actual like sit
24:58
down conversation with him to talk through
25:00
his feelings about the game as well
25:02
very very soon. And this one last
25:04
thing I do want to add to
25:06
the conversation around south of midnight because
25:08
I've been seeing a lot of sentiments
25:11
on my feeds about. You know, what
25:13
is this game? And this game
25:15
continues to be woke and, you
25:17
know, again, it's all the same
25:19
nonsensical ideas and thoughts from
25:21
people who aren't paying attention to
25:24
what this game is trying to
25:26
do. And two things come back
25:28
to me in this respect. I
25:30
find it really interesting that
25:32
whenever you talk about blackness,
25:35
that's a big problem
25:37
in gaming. I think
25:39
that's interesting. and continues
25:41
to be a unreasonable
25:43
discussion. And I think
25:45
the other part that winds up
25:47
kind of coming together through all
25:50
of this is, you know, when
25:52
you when you are discussing
25:54
this game and you're
25:57
having conversations with it,
25:59
the same. discussions come up
26:01
over and over and over again and
26:03
they don't really have a ton of
26:06
merit. I think I am very tired
26:08
of having discussions with people who don't
26:10
understand things. I am very very tired
26:13
of trying to dismiss the the idiocy
26:15
that we wind up seeing around also
26:17
mentioned so many of these conversations because
26:19
some of the folks who are bringing
26:22
up these things if you look at
26:24
the actual argument it really comes back
26:26
to This person is black, this person
26:29
is female, this person is trans, this
26:31
person is LGBTQ. This person, it's all
26:33
the same discussion. Oh, sweet baby, Inc.
26:36
made this game, so I'm not gonna
26:38
buy it, that means it's woke and
26:40
it's woke slop and it's silly. Like,
26:43
all of those discussions don't have merit.
26:45
And I appreciate the fact that people
26:47
continue to push back on it, because
26:49
I think it's necessary to keep the
26:52
space in a good, in a good
26:54
spot. You know a lot of these
26:56
conversations for me happen on Twitter slash
26:59
X because that's where most of my
27:01
followers are and it's where I get
27:03
the most hatred about my opinions about
27:06
diversity and inclusion and blackness and all
27:08
those kinds of things. And I don't
27:10
mind them because at the end of
27:12
the day like I understand that there
27:15
are people who are haters and that's
27:17
going to be a part of the
27:19
conversation. But I do think if we're
27:22
going to keep it fair. And we're
27:24
going to keep the space honest. In
27:26
the same ways that so many of
27:29
those folks who have for months and
27:31
months and months over the past, almost
27:33
a year and a half now, have
27:36
said, Sweet Baby Inc. is a terrible
27:38
place. There's a terrible consultancy firm. Everything
27:40
they touch is fails. And everything they
27:42
touch is bad. And everything they touch
27:45
is terrible. All of that kind of
27:47
stuff. Shouted Defated Furby for subbing to
27:49
the channel. For all of
27:52
those things, there are two games
27:54
that those folks have had their
27:56
hands on in the past couple
27:58
of months that have gone. out.
28:00
South of midnight that is getting
28:02
rave reviews from tons of folks
28:04
in the video game space and
28:06
lots of players at least on
28:08
my feet. And Assassin's Creed, accessory
28:10
Shadows which also went out and
28:12
had a fair amount of really
28:15
good press and a lot of
28:17
good reviews and all that kind
28:19
of stuff. So if we're going
28:21
to say that they are the
28:23
worst company in the world because
28:25
of everything they do and because
28:27
they talk about all these things
28:29
and diversity and all that kind
28:31
of stuff. You at least has
28:33
to give them props for the
28:35
two games that have come out
28:37
most recently that have been fairly
28:40
good and fairly reasonable and have
28:42
shown that whatever additions that they
28:44
brought to the table, because again,
28:46
consultancy firms don't drive the narrative
28:48
of a game, they don't drive
28:50
the game design of a game.
28:52
Those are built into all of
28:54
those places. And they add whatever
28:56
they are looking to add from
28:58
the needs of the companies that
29:00
they work with. Those folks bring
29:03
them in for very specific reasons
29:05
to be able to connect to
29:07
some of those discussions and add
29:09
to the overall, you know, narrative
29:11
bits that they've been asked to
29:13
do, whatever it may be. And
29:15
I want to say, give them
29:17
props. Like if you're going to
29:19
take all of this energy that
29:21
has been in the space for
29:23
all of this year. all of
29:25
last year and try to dunk
29:28
on that team for doing what
29:30
they've doing. And again, I fully
29:32
believe all of the stuff around
29:34
Sweet Baby has been falsified. I
29:36
think the arguments that have been
29:38
raised against them have been false
29:40
from the beginning. I still think
29:42
that all of the stuff has
29:44
been made off of bad Intel
29:46
and bad understandings and bad comprehension
29:48
of what Kim Belair. has said
29:51
in her GDC talk, and we
29:53
went over this to some episodes
29:55
earlier on Spawn of Me, I
29:57
think the way that people have
29:59
been harassed. from that team and
30:01
the way they try to safeguard
30:03
themselves from that. I think all
30:05
of those things have been well
30:07
documented and have been shown to
30:09
be made from bad actors who
30:11
are the same trolls that we've
30:13
seen across the world. So I would
30:15
say if you're gonna say that
30:18
that company is the worst of
30:20
the worst, we have to also
30:22
then say that they deserve some
30:24
props for adding whatever they had
30:27
to these two games that I
30:29
think have been extremely good. have
30:31
shown some interesting layers from conversations
30:34
around blackness and black history and
30:36
they've done those and they've
30:38
gotten pretty good reviews in
30:40
the games that they've gotten to
30:43
at least excuse at least in
30:45
these two circumstances I had a I
30:47
had a hit-up so I'll say that
30:49
if you're gonna if you're gonna
30:51
if you're gonna say all the bad
30:54
stuff at least balance it out
30:56
with some good stuff. People aren't
30:58
going to do that. People aren't
31:00
nuanced enough to be able to say
31:02
that out loud, but that's honest. If
31:05
we're going to, you know, tamp people
31:07
down and say that their work is
31:09
bad, but also not give them
31:11
props for the good work that
31:13
they do, then that's unfair. And
31:15
I believe in fairness and I
31:17
believe in new wants on this
31:19
show, so I'll say that for
31:21
sure. stuff that they sent over
31:23
in their care package with all
31:25
the goodies is the records and
31:27
all the other cool stuff that
31:29
they sent over from the folks
31:32
over compulsion. So massive love to
31:34
them. All the work that they
31:36
did. And shout out to Pico
31:38
Chalita as well, their community manager
31:40
for, you know, surviving
31:42
a amazingly rough year and
31:44
for sticking with it and for
31:46
compulsion for supporting her. And for
31:48
all the other community managers and
31:50
folks out here who are on
31:52
the front lines in the gaming
31:54
industry having to deal with all
31:56
these trolls being under compensated and
31:58
for folks who are probably not
32:01
getting paid with their worth for
32:03
all the work that they do dealing
32:05
with all the wildness that winds up
32:07
happening in the internet. It is a
32:10
thankless job. It is a job that
32:12
is a actual occupational hazard. I think
32:14
everyone who is a community manager and
32:17
a social media manager needs to get
32:19
raises because this is the worst the
32:21
internet has been. The internet is
32:23
at its absolute worst right now.
32:25
And especially in spaces that we all
32:28
have to do work to help to
32:30
promote the games that we're working
32:32
on and help to promote the
32:34
people that we want to promote in
32:36
the video game space. Those people, we're
32:39
talking about having conversations about raises
32:41
and union representation and all that
32:43
kind of stuff, you should be putting
32:45
them into those conversations immediately. Because all
32:47
of us have to go through
32:49
it and especially if you're black
32:51
and have any conversations or woman or
32:54
from the LGBTQ space Especially if you're
32:56
public facing You are getting the
32:58
brunt of all of it from
33:00
all directions and there are few people
33:02
who were going to help you and
33:05
that part kind of sucks, but
33:08
Everyone who's paying attention understands the value
33:11
that you have to the spaces that
33:13
you bring. And I will say as
33:15
one of the people who's doing that
33:18
work in my nine to five time,
33:20
I appreciate you. I think you're doing
33:22
a fantastic job. Keep pushing forward and
33:24
hopefully the people who are around you
33:27
are supporting you in those ways. Before
33:29
we dip out of the South of
33:31
Midnight Conversation, Bryce Jackson over at YouTube
33:34
says, just for Chapter 6, games presentation
33:36
is great, but that chapter broke me.
33:38
No doubt, there's some real hard themes
33:41
in that game. And you know, I
33:43
think that's the reason why I love
33:45
it so much. Like I think it's
33:48
not shying away from human suffering in
33:50
ways that a lot of games do.
33:52
Or at least they're doing it in
33:55
a very humane way, which I think
33:57
is really important. Last topic for the
33:59
401 is marathon information. is going to
34:01
be dropping this week, this weekend. A
34:04
lot of influencers have been playing the
34:06
game. They had an event very recently.
34:08
I did not get invited. I am
34:11
very sad that I did not get
34:13
a chance to go up to Seattle. I'm
34:15
not that far. Help your brother out.
34:17
Let me know. I'm down to co-place a
34:20
marathon. Check it out. But we're
34:22
going to finally get some new information
34:24
this weekend. from the folks over at
34:26
Bungee who were making this happen. You
34:28
know, we've seen a lot of influencer
34:30
packs go out. We've seen a lot
34:32
of, you know, ARG movement happen with
34:34
the ARG that they put out and
34:36
people have been solving and going through.
34:38
And all of those conversations are real
34:40
and no joke, you know, looking good
34:43
and sounding good. Sounds like people are
34:45
having a good time with it or had
34:47
a good time with it, at least from the
34:49
vibe of the room. No one's been able to
34:51
say anything because it's been under say anything because
34:54
it's been under NDA. I am very excited
34:56
to see what the team has put together
34:58
and what the future of this game looks
35:00
like. I think a lot of people were
35:02
worried about it. And for what it sounds
35:05
like, there is some good vibes in the
35:07
air about what this game is going to
35:09
wind up being and its madness. So
35:11
I'm, you know, new games come into to the
35:13
space are always good. It's always good
35:15
to be able to have new joints
35:17
rolling through. And it's always fun to
35:19
be able to see, you know, teams do something
35:21
different different. And I think a lot of folks
35:24
who are in the destiny community have been waiting
35:26
for this new title to drop or at least
35:28
some more information and we're finally going to see
35:30
what that is. And I hope it lands well.
35:33
I think a lot of teams need wins right
35:35
now. I think a lot of teams need, and
35:37
a lot of teams need, and a lot of
35:39
us also want to see new things happen that
35:42
are really exciting that we want to go and
35:44
check out and play and have hands on. So
35:46
I'm hoping. that folks in the industry hear
35:48
this and invite me up to go play that
35:50
thing too. Next time there's a space to go
35:52
check out the game at some point. All right,
35:55
let's get into what we've been playing
35:57
there to wrap up episode 544 of
35:59
the Simone podcast. Let's go check out some stuff I've
36:01
been playing. First
36:13
up in what we've been playing
36:15
this week, I am a huge fan
36:17
of pinball. I've been a pinball
36:19
fan since I was a small child.
36:21
When arcades were a thing back
36:24
in the day when I was thinner
36:26
and had hair and an actual buildings
36:29
were there that you can go play
36:31
video games and around other people. But
36:34
during TDC, I got a
36:36
chance to go check out a
36:38
game that I was really
36:41
excited for, which is Pinball Effects
36:43
VR. You remember the folks
36:45
from Zen Studios who for multiple
36:47
generations of consoles and hardware
36:49
have been making these true to
36:51
life replicas of digital replicas
36:53
of some of my favorite pinball
36:55
machines over the years. And
36:57
they've now translated that into VR
37:00
space. And I have to
37:02
say, having played it for the
37:04
past couple of past couple
37:06
of weeks, man,
37:08
this thing is cool. Like I'm
37:10
a big like I have cabinets that
37:12
I remember from my childhood and
37:14
from my from my youth that were
37:16
really fun to go through and
37:19
play. And I think they've done
37:21
the painstaking work. When I was talking
37:23
to the team, one the things
37:25
they talked about was the fact that
37:27
these tables,
37:29
these amazing pieces of
37:31
art that are there
37:33
are scanned in. They
37:36
go find these whole
37:38
machines. They break them
37:40
into their component parts.
37:42
They scan them to
37:44
get them into digital
37:46
format. Then put them
37:48
back together digitally to
37:50
replicate what these machines
37:52
feel like, the way
37:54
that the physics works,
37:56
the ways that those
37:58
machines would actually play in real
38:01
life. It is one of the
38:03
coolest things that I've ever seen.
38:05
They've done this really cool other
38:07
layer of it where, you know,
38:09
like those machines have art that
38:11
go along with it. You kind
38:13
of base them around an IP
38:15
or a character. And those things
38:17
are in the space with you.
38:20
So like if you're playing a
38:22
Star Trek table, you'll like you'll
38:24
see the enterprise around the table
38:26
flying across it. You're playing the
38:28
Adams family table. You'll see cousin
38:30
it and stuff like around the
38:32
table. And my favorite one was
38:34
the Night Rider table. which the car
38:36
kind of like drives around you, it
38:38
like goes into the back of the
38:40
truck. It does all this cool stuff.
38:43
What's also really dope is that besides
38:45
the fact that you have this kind
38:47
of virtual world that is in basically
38:49
an arcade that has other arcade games
38:51
in it like you can play pool,
38:53
I mean you can play darts, you can
38:55
play like what some of the other angles
38:58
and stuff that they have in there. They
39:00
had like darts in there. I think they
39:02
had like the kind of like guess. you
39:04
know, the spin the roulette wheel kind
39:06
of thing to get a prize kind
39:08
of stuff. What's cool about it is
39:11
besides all those things you can decorate
39:13
the the walls and the more, you
39:15
know, high scores you get, like you
39:18
can move things around and change the
39:20
way that the the arcade layer is.
39:22
But it also has a mixed reality
39:24
version where you can be in your
39:26
actual room. You hit a button on
39:28
the quest or whichever HMD you have
39:30
that shows you the space around. in
39:32
a space. And like, you're like, oh,
39:35
I want, you know, my coffee table's
39:37
here, but I want the table to
39:39
be on the other side of it.
39:41
You can do that, rotate the table
39:43
around. You have all these different angles
39:45
on the table. They have some really
39:47
fun campaign modes where you kind of
39:49
build out and decorate the room. It's
39:51
super dope. Like, and it's cool because like
39:54
close you get to the table, then the
39:56
sounds change, it gets more robust, all that
39:58
kind of stuff. I am. What I
40:00
love about what Zen Studios does as
40:02
well is that they price tables really,
40:05
really smartly. You can get a bundle
40:07
of tables. There's only a couple in
40:09
there right now. But when I had
40:11
a conversation with them, they were talking
40:13
about building that out. And they've already
40:16
had, like, if you play the normal
40:18
version, the non-viar version, they all have
40:20
like tens of tables, like, you know.
40:22
a multitude of tables at this point.
40:25
Stuff that they've made and then games
40:27
that are, you know, tables that we've
40:29
known from the pinball world, a lot
40:31
of Williams tables, a lot of those
40:33
kinds of things. But it's super fun,
40:36
like it's not expensive, which is the
40:38
best part of what this package is,
40:40
is you never feel like you're being
40:42
robbed when you're going to buy new
40:45
tables. The things that's cool is like,
40:47
all those new VR tables will then
40:49
be... you know, go along with your
40:51
account. So if you're moving from one
40:53
device to another, you'll still have the
40:56
tables under that in the VR space.
40:58
It does not translate from the offline
41:00
console versions to the VR game. You
41:02
will have to rebut tables there, but
41:04
the pricing is really, really competitive and
41:07
cheap. Like it's not, it doesn't feel
41:09
like you're going to spend in 10
41:11
bucks a table for those things. You'll
41:13
probably get like 10 bucks for three
41:16
tables or something like that, if I'm
41:18
not mistaken. So I love the folks
41:20
from Zen Pimball, from Zen Studios. I've
41:22
been a big fan of them, Zen
41:24
Studios. I've been a big fan of
41:27
their format, is even cooler. One of
41:29
the things that I did tell them
41:31
was, one of the hard things to
41:33
kind of figure out is like, You
41:36
know, if you're standing for a long
41:38
period of time, you're looking down a
41:40
lot, and that can be really taxing
41:42
on your neck. But they've also even
41:44
figured out ways you can play the
41:47
game sitting down, and they've figured out
41:49
ways to have, in the settings, ways
41:51
you can angle the table so that
41:53
you can be in a position that
41:55
doesn't necessarily mean that you have to
41:58
kind of lean down all the time
42:00
to be able to see stuff. Really
42:02
smart stuff. I'm so excited for this.
42:04
Like, I'm playing on a 3S. Shout
42:07
out to the friends over from Ball
42:09
to the Wall for fucking me up
42:11
with 3S. I really do. It really
42:13
does make me want a 3, a
42:15
Quest 3. Because the visuals, although they
42:18
are very smooth already, I got a
42:20
chance to demo it on a 3.
42:22
And just the visuals just look really,
42:24
really, really good. And the processing speed
42:27
on the S is a little bit
42:29
slower than it is on the 3.
42:31
But. All in all, having a blast
42:33
with it and getting a chance to
42:35
check that stuff out, it is really,
42:38
really dope. I'm playing a couple things
42:40
that I can't talk about yet that
42:42
are still in the mix. So we'll
42:44
have more conversations about those very, very
42:47
soon. I'm getting some time with Fatal
42:49
Fury right now. Also going to be
42:51
checking out, I think Indiana Jones on
42:53
PS5 and I think also. Horizon as
42:55
well. I think those are going to
42:58
be coming up very soon, so I'll
43:00
give some thoughts about how they play
43:02
over on the other platform. But there
43:04
are two games that I did want
43:06
to talk about before I dip out,
43:09
because I think that they are fun,
43:11
and I did get a chance to
43:13
play them, but just didn't get a
43:15
chance to talk about them of late.
43:18
So one is Clawpunk. And Clawpunk is
43:20
this kind of 2D action game that's
43:22
like, feels a little bit like Celeste,
43:24
but you are... featured as one of
43:26
nine cats and your objective is to
43:29
kind of clear out these stages and
43:31
get to the end, which has a
43:33
gate at the end. And it's super
43:35
fun. It's like all these modifiers and
43:38
cards are in the space where you
43:40
get a chance to maneuver through the
43:42
game and it's like an action game.
43:44
It's a platformer. It's all of those
43:46
things all in one. And the game
43:49
is really fun because you can be
43:51
really aggressive or you can kind of
43:53
just like maneuver your way down through
43:55
the map to get to the end
43:58
so that you can get to you
44:00
know the part of that. mission as
44:02
fast as you possibly can. It is
44:04
wildly fun. I had a small amount
44:06
of time with it, but I definitely
44:09
want to play more of it. I
44:11
definitely want to get a code for
44:13
it and check it out and you
44:15
should definitely try to wish list it.
44:17
I had a ton of fun with
44:20
it and it's like thrives on you.
44:22
being in a chaotic space like you
44:24
have a gun you have melee combat
44:26
you have some modifiers that they move
44:29
things around And the cats play very
44:31
very differently so they all have kind
44:33
of their own traits that you would
44:35
kind of go into each match with
44:37
the cool thing is like once you
44:40
build up a roster of cats if
44:42
you die in in one of the
44:44
runs you can then switch to a
44:46
different cat to kind of get through
44:49
and then when you're finished with the
44:51
like all of your roster of cats
44:53
dies in a run then you wind
44:55
to you want to losing on that
44:57
in that particular space. But if you
45:00
are looking for a game that's like
45:02
a number cruncher kind of game, like
45:04
that thing is dope. I've been having,
45:06
I had a blast playing it, I
45:08
want to play more of it for
45:11
sure. The other game that I got
45:13
a chance to check out was Pathfinder
45:15
Abomination Volts, which. was really cool. It's
45:17
like in the Pathfinder world, which I
45:20
am not very familiar with. So like
45:22
if you already have an affinity for
45:24
the World of Pathfinder, you're already in
45:26
its wheelhouse from the lower parts of
45:28
the story and the lower parts of
45:31
the game. But it's this kind of
45:33
top-down isometric game that felt really fun
45:35
to play because you're balancing out. this
45:37
really cool cooperative combat where you are
45:40
taking and swapping between multiple characters and
45:42
your four-person crew that are based on
45:44
you know members of the Pathfinder world
45:46
and each one of them has their
45:48
own traits their own kind of abilities
45:51
certain weapons their abilities to have certain
45:53
kinds of magic and in other you
45:55
know abilities and features but I would
45:57
I really liked was the fact that
46:00
this game is digging into the lore
46:02
and really paying attention to all of
46:04
the layers that go alongside that's like
46:06
when you're paying attention to and using
46:08
a character your choices and whether you
46:11
kind of talk through and have dialogue
46:13
have repercussions for the way that other
46:15
characters will you know engage with you
46:17
and how they'll kind of play around
46:19
with you in all of those things
46:22
so it winds up being something where
46:24
you have to really pay attention to
46:26
you know, how are you connecting with
46:28
those characters? How are you actually, you
46:31
know, you know, moving around and how
46:33
are you having discussions with other
46:35
characters and not only them, but
46:37
other MPCs in the world to
46:39
figure into that stuff? The vaults,
46:41
it's a vault game, you're kind of
46:43
going down levels to get to the
46:46
boss levels, and each one of those
46:48
has distinct biomes, has like, you know,
46:50
different chapters in the game, in a
46:52
lot of different ways. It's a lot
46:55
of fun. like being able to
46:57
switch between the characters, you know,
46:59
dealing with some of the combos
47:01
and all of that stuff. Like,
47:03
it just feels really interesting to
47:05
have a game like this in
47:07
the space that is not necessarily
47:10
what you would get from something
47:12
like Diablo, but feels, you know,
47:14
akin to some of those things with
47:16
more lore, more discussions, and
47:18
more co-op play, which is, which is,
47:20
I think, is the main driver for this.
47:23
It's like the good, the, the, the, The
47:25
co-op parts of this really do
47:27
make it feel extra special
47:29
in the way that you're kind of
47:31
playing this game. And yeah, I'm
47:33
hyped for it. I wanna play
47:35
more. Like I think, you know,
47:38
when you're playing games like these
47:40
in these ways, you wanna kind of
47:42
play around in the spaces themselves
47:44
and dig around and find out
47:46
really good ways to be able
47:48
to engage with it and finding
47:50
good avenues for fun. and you
47:52
know I need more time with
47:54
it because I think you know
47:56
I got a chance to play
47:58
the demos hands off. But now, getting
48:00
a chance to check out what I've
48:03
gotten to see, I want to play
48:05
around in that space more. I want
48:07
to explore and see what it's like
48:10
to kind of go down to levels
48:12
and potentially get to the boss and
48:14
fight those things and fight those things
48:16
and fight those things and do that.
48:19
We'll have more information about this game.
48:21
It's very kind of top level stuff
48:23
that we got a chance to check
48:25
out during time with it. But a
48:28
lot of that's going to be fun.
48:30
Alpha go check that out as well
48:32
still hunters Alpha has been really really
48:34
cool. I also got a chance to
48:37
play Wu Chang I forgot the name
48:39
of the full name of Wu Chang
48:41
What is it? It is? That game
48:43
feels a lot like Bloodborne. It's hard,
48:46
of course, but from a combat perspective,
48:48
from the way that the world is
48:50
built, from the way that you pass
48:52
through it, like that game felt really,
48:55
really dope. I think I have some
48:57
footage that I'll be putting up somewhere.
48:59
But if you had not gotten a
49:01
chance to check that if you were
49:04
excited for that game, you should definitely
49:06
be checking that out as well. Shada
49:08
to a Taco Man, 5,000 in the
49:10
chat, who says what's up, as well.
49:13
So yeah, we have a lot of
49:15
stuff to dig in through. I'm very
49:17
busy when it comes to games that
49:19
I'm playing and stuff that I can
49:22
talk about and stuff that I can't
49:24
talk about. But there are some really
49:26
fun titles in there that I know
49:29
all of you have been waiting for
49:31
and been excited to go check out.
49:33
And we'll have more information about those
49:35
because their embargers are probably coming up
49:38
fairly soon. So. We got that stuff.
49:40
I got more, more goodies coming in
49:42
the way, some more swag stuff that
49:44
came through, the folks over it, but
49:47
that's the sent over one of those
49:49
big dope doom helmets, so I'll put
49:51
that up on social as well. The
49:53
folks of eviction. sent over one of
49:56
their new fight pads, one of their
49:58
new fight pads, one of the new
50:00
fight sticks. So we'll be talking about
50:02
that too on an upcoming episode, a
50:05
spawn on me. So lots of stuff
50:07
happening for all of us here in
50:09
Chicago, and it's been, again, very, very
50:11
busy. So make sure you're checking out
50:14
all of our stuff across all of
50:16
the avenues that we have game conversations
50:18
for us again. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube,
50:20
Tiktak, all of those things are going
50:23
to be putting out some more content
50:25
in those spaces soon and we'll have
50:27
potentially have some more conversations, some more
50:29
announcements for things that are happening before
50:32
Summer Games Fest as well. So Massa
50:34
loved everybody for coming through and for
50:36
hanging out this week and every week
50:39
on this one week podcast for folks
50:41
who just got here rolling through hello,

those good things for all the things
51:12
that we have coming up very, very
51:15
soon. Much love to you all. Hope
51:17
you're having a good rest of week.

51:21
all of your stuff. Please go talk
51:24
to your financial advisor about the incoming
51:26
madness out here and more information about
51:28
all those things coming soon here at
51:30

51:33
wonderful rest of your day. We'll speak
51:35
