Question of the Week emanating
0:40
from Take Back Your Mind podcast.
0:42
I am your host, Michael
0:45
B. Beckwith. And
0:47
I love the questions you
0:49
ask. You email them
0:51
to me and my staff picks them
0:53
out and it's a beautiful thing. I
0:56
love our communication. I love our community
0:58
that's developing around Life Question of the
1:00
Week. This is Sam.
1:02
Sam is from Australia. He
1:05
has this question. My question
1:07
pertains to negative intrusive
1:09
thoughts. I practice
1:11
meditation and affirmations,
1:13
yet sometimes I am plagued
1:16
by dark and disturbing thoughts
1:18
that render me feeling ashamed and
1:21
often depleted in energy. These
1:24
thoughts seem to come out of nowhere and
1:26
are often completely unrelated to what I
1:28
may be doing at the moment they arise.
1:31
I consider myself to be a good person. So
1:34
I find it difficult to understand why these
1:36
thoughts come into my awareness. Any
1:38
light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.
1:41
Thank you, Sam. This is a good question. Two
1:43
things. And then
1:46
some other things as well. First
1:49
of all, when thoughts are
1:51
intruding upon us, I come
1:53
from two places generally, particularly
1:55
if we're in meditation, even if we're
1:57
not. Sometimes the thoughts that
1:59
are intrude are thoughts and emotions
2:01
that have been repressed or
2:03
suppressed at a certain time
2:05
in our life. Perhaps
2:07
there was something we did or didn't
2:09
do when we were younger, and
2:12
in order to move ahead with our life, we had
2:14
to suppress those thoughts, suppress
2:16
the mistake we made, suppress
2:18
what we said that we
2:20
were kind of ashamed of,
2:22
or got repressed in order
2:24
for us to survive. And
2:27
then, later on in life
2:29
as we become inwardly strong, oftentimes
2:32
when we practice meditation or some
2:34
type of spiritual technology, there's an
2:36
inner strength that happens within us.
2:38
And when that inner strength
2:40
occurs, those thoughts can now come
2:43
forward that were once suppressed or
2:45
repressed because you're strong enough to
2:47
handle them now. So instead
2:49
of being ashamed
2:51
by them or blaming
2:53
yourself for anything, this is when you go
2:55
into the art of forgiveness. You
2:58
just forgive wherever those thoughts
3:00
are coming from. You
3:02
just forgive anyone involved
3:04
with that thinking, yourself. You
3:07
forgive. And when that happens,
3:09
when there's a real forgiveness of that, you
3:11
are born anew. You actually
3:14
are cleaning up the
3:16
filters of your
3:18
perception so that you can see
3:20
life more clearly and see
3:22
yourself more clearly rather than that
3:24
which is hidden. based on
3:26
repression and surpression. Secondly,
3:29
sometimes those thoughts come from the
3:32
sea of mental garbage. What
3:34
is that? Those are
3:36
the prevailing thought forms that
3:38
become contagious in society. Fear
3:41
thoughts, thoughts
3:43
about consumerism, thoughts about sex,
3:45
thoughts about overpowering people.
3:47
There's all kinds of thoughts
3:50
that are in the
3:52
air that sometimes can get on us.
3:54
They're not even our thoughts. They're
3:57
just in the air. And
3:59
what people don't realize is that thoughts
4:02
can be as
4:04
contagious as particular
4:06
diseases. People think they
4:08
can catch a flu from somebody,
4:10
that that's contagious, but thoughts are
4:12
contagious as well. You'll notice
4:14
this if you look at history, and
4:17
you'll notice that whenever the media made a
4:19
big deal out of something, All
4:21
of a sudden, that became very popular. Everybody
4:23
began to experience it or become
4:25
afraid of it. It's flu season.
4:27
Everybody starts catching the flu. Planes
4:29
are falling. It becomes contagious. Oh,
4:31
it's dangerous to be on a plane. Whatever
4:33
the case may be, things can become contagious. And
4:36
so when you're aware
4:39
that the thoughts that are intruding
4:41
upon you are either repressed or
4:43
suppressed, or just
4:45
within the field of
4:47
the human milieu, You
4:51
can protect yourself
4:53
through your spiritual practice. You
4:56
feel a deep sense of safety,
4:58
a deep sense of well -being, a
5:01
deep sense of joy that's
5:03
not attached to anything as a
5:05
practice. And then you
5:07
watch that you can be in this
5:09
world, but you're not of the contagious
5:11
thoughts that you'll see repeated every day
5:13
on the media. As someone
5:15
once posted like
5:17
about 40 different
5:20
news outlets reporting on
5:22
a particular issue and every single reporter
5:24
said exactly the same thing as they
5:26
began to report on this thing. So
5:28
you can tell they were all getting
5:30
this bit of information funneled in from
5:32
the same source and then they all
5:34
said it and then that became
5:37
a contagious perception. Didn't even have to
5:39
be true. It was just
5:41
an opinion that became a contagious
5:43
perception. This is why
5:45
we invite you to make sure you
5:47
have time by yourself. your
5:49
time in nature
5:51
to contemplate
5:54
the nature of your being, to meditate, to
5:56
pray, so that you become
5:58
little by little by little
6:00
unaffected by the contagious thoughts
6:02
of the social milieu. Sam,
6:05
I hope that helps you and everyone else
6:08
listening. Peace and blessings. Hey,
6:11
thank you for joining me today. If
6:13
you'd like to ask a
6:16

6:22
featured. a beautiful day.
