This is breaking news as I record this,
0:02
but hopefully by now you've already heard. I'll
0:05
unpack and explain everything that I know. But
0:08
the International Criminal Court, the
0:10
highest court in the world, the
0:13
highest criminal court in the world, has
0:16
just issued arrest warrants for
0:19
Benjamin Netanyahu and Yov Galant,
0:21
the Defense Secretary there, and
0:25
every nation that is a member nation
0:27
of the International Criminal Court. It
0:30
is now obligated to arrest them
0:32
if they step foot in those countries.
0:34
It's nearly 150 nations. Let
0:38
me unpack and explain it. It's a very
0:40
big deal. This is Sean King,
0:42
and you are listening to the breakdown.
1:03
I know it's very, very easy. I'm
1:05
tempted to think it as well to
1:07
be like, why did it take 14
1:10
months for these arrest
1:12
warrants to be issued when it was
1:14
visible to the
1:16
naked untrained eye two
1:20
weeks in that this
1:22
was illegal, that this was genocidal,
1:24
that this was ethnic cleansing, that
1:28
hundreds of war crimes were being committed.
1:30
We knew that before the end of
1:32
the first month. In fact, what's
1:35
wild is inside of the
1:38
United States State Department, people
1:41
were stating that Israel was committing
1:43
war crimes before the end of
1:45
the first week. That's
1:48
how bad it got right
1:50
away, that it was like, oh, this
1:52
is not any kind
1:54
of war with integrity.
1:56
Listen, most war doesn't
1:59
have integrity. But it doesn't
2:01
look like this. These are
2:03
war crimes. This is genocide. And
2:06
the International Criminal Court, I have talked about
2:08
this here on the podcast before, but it's
2:10
been a very long time. The
2:13
International Criminal Court is
2:16
the single highest criminal court
2:18
in the world. I'm
2:20
emphasizing the word criminal court. What
2:23
I mean by that is that they
2:25
can issue arrest warrants. The
2:28
International Court of Justice,
2:30
the ICJ, which is
2:33
an extension of the United Nations, is
2:36
a very important court. They
2:39
can issue sanctions. They can
2:41
issue, in essence, decisions and
2:44
statements, but they cannot issue
2:46
arrest warrants. That's
2:48
why the International Criminal Court was created.
2:51
Now a quick
2:53
crash course on the International Criminal
2:55
Court. Their
2:57
lead prosecutor said
3:00
about four and a half months ago that
3:03
he was recommending that
3:05
the leaders of Israel be arrested.
3:08
Well, that was his recommendation. And
3:10
a lot of us were excited
3:12
and glad that he made that
3:14
recommendation because it meant that it
3:16
was almost guaranteed that the judges
3:19
of the International Criminal Court would
3:21
sign off on the recommendation. We
3:24
did not think it would take four and a half months.
3:26
I thought it might take a month. Maybe
3:28
it was going to take 30 days, 40 days, 45 days.
3:33
Instead it took four and a half months. Tens
3:36
of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and
3:38
injured. Hundreds of thousands,
3:41
pretty much every Palestinian now is being
3:43
starved. Everyone is homeless,
3:45
has lost their home. It's
3:48
a very, very disastrous
3:50
situation. And so not
3:53
only did the lead prosecutor of
3:55
the ICC, the International Criminal Court,
3:59
recommend the warrant. warrants, the judges
4:01
there approve the warrants and warrants
4:03
have been issued for
4:05
the arrest of the primary leaders of
4:07
Israel and of this genocide. This
4:11
has a lot of implications and there's
4:13
some things it doesn't mean. And
4:16
let me start with what it does mean. The
4:19
International Criminal Court is
4:22
the court for almost the
4:24
entire world. Many
4:27
rogue nations that
4:29
commit open war crimes are not a
4:31
part of the International Criminal Court. Almost
4:35
all of Europe is a part of the International Criminal
4:37
Court. Almost all of Africa. Almost
4:40
all of South America. Who
4:43
is not a part of the International Criminal Court? The
4:46
United States, Russia, China,
4:49
and Israel. Means
4:53
that if they were administration
4:55
after administration after administration from
4:57
all of those places, would
5:00
be charged with war crimes because
5:02
they've committed thousands and
5:04
thousands of war crimes. But
5:07
the rest of the world is a part of it. And
5:10
what that means is
5:13
that since Israel is not a
5:15
member state of the International
5:17
Criminal Court, you do, you just have to ask
5:19
yourself, why not? Why
5:22
did 150 other nations say, yes, we'll do
5:24
this? And why did Israel
5:26
and the United States and China and Russia say no?
5:30
We know it's because those countries commit
5:32
war crimes. In fact, leaders
5:34
from some of those countries have already been
5:36
charged. And what that
5:38
means is if your nation
5:41
is not a member state of the
5:43
International Criminal Court, is that you
5:45
will not be arrested in your home country.
5:48
So if you're in one of those 150 countries that's
5:50
a member state, and you
5:52
commit a war crime, you will
5:54
be arrested immediately in your own
5:56
country. But for those that
5:59
aren't in the future.
