One of the classics in the independent audio drama scene, this heartfelt and intimate drama, which slowly grows into something a whole lot bigger, has some of the best writing and acting in any drama out there.
Great characters, great story. It starts very disconnected and it's really lovely to see how everything slowly comes together. The voice actors all do a brilliant job!
The original idea is very good. The first season is quite interesting but the action is very limited : of course, it's about a shrink so, it's about talking about your inner struggles... But the show only gets talkative at some point and consequently the lack of action makes the show a bit repetitive.
love all the episodes tart with episode 101. Dr. Bright provides therapy for the strange and unusualwww.nctorganics.com
Took awhile to finally get into the plot and story, but it was good.Update: Just finished The College Tapes season. Yikes, the speeches about emotions are long and add nothing to the story. And you get hit with it every single episode. You know how everyone feels after the first 10 minute speech or two, but every episode... It gets old fast.
This was the podcast that started my audiodrama obsession. It made me cry, laugh, and want to be a better storyteller. As someone who loves the 'power people' subgenre, this felt like a heartfelt breath of fresh air. It's got imperfect people with powers who need just as much help (if not more in some cases) than the rest of us normal people.Everyone should listen to this show <3
Using recordings of therapy sessions to understand main characters is a really interesting approach to a storytelling podcast. It allows for some exposition as the patient and therapist get to know each other, and kind of adds an element of mystery as there is undoubtedly a lot of information we don’t get. Added onto this, the people in therapy are learning how to control their superpowers. One of the reasons I like anthology podcasts is the stories are easier to keep track of than ongoing story arcs across dozens of episodes. With five seasons to the main story (and two spin-off series) that was a risk here, but it’s so well written it’s already clear and the threads all tie together.
I can't properly express how amazing this show is. Everything about it is incredible <3
a wonderful podcast with beautiful writing and skilled voice acting. I laughed, cried, gasped and everything in between.
This is a very well written and performed full-cast audio drama, emphasis on drama (this one is a little light on comedy). Great queer representation (there are asexual, bi, gay, and lesbian characters and a cute, gay, subplot), character development, and interwoven stories that build into an epic narrative!
Amazing!Love love love.I even bought the book series that came out and it was great! Cant wait for more!I was pretty angry when it ended but super excited about future books and the Caleb/Adam spin off.
Concept: superheroes need to go the therapy.Masterfully executed and emotionally engaging, this show is one of my favourites.
I thought I'd only listen to the main four seasons, but with a cast and world so gripping, I found myself consuming it all the way to the end. This fresh take on superpowers doesn't focus on grand battles, it deals more with the psychology these 'heroes' undergo, from dealing with school life to understanding what they want. It's very real and grounded, great character growth and a foreboding thrill in the background. Every season changed it up and had something new to offer, with impeccable sound design. I was only slightly disappointed by the way they handled major conflict resolutions, which felt a bit subdued, but nevertheless a great laidback show to enjoy.
The show revolves around a group of adults and several young adults that all share a special attribute they all have a supernatural abilities in some form. Yes I know it sounds so cliche from today's world but somehow Lauren Shippen the creator has gone beyond what could of been a TV knockoff and made a vast world that feels so real. In this day and age we are so skeptical of the people running our government and wonder who’s truly behind it all and what they’re hiding.- Podcast Junkie
One of the best scripted, full cast, sci-fi/audio drama podcasts. I am listening to or have completed more than 100 podcasts, listened to close 1,000 episode, and checked out countless more. However—SPOILER ALERT—it’s NOT a better love story than Twilight. Each episode of tbe College Tapes is better than the next.
The Bright Sessions remains to be my favorite audio drama podcast. No other podcast has breathed more life into its characters than this one. It's the one that I recommend to anyone who asks for something to binge listen because it's so easy to get into.My only complaint has to do with Damien. I feel like his character arc was never completed. It was sooo close, but no dice. I can only hope and pray that his story can finish in either The AM Archives or The College Tapes.
This show is genuinely so cool. From the very beginning in Dr. Bright's office to reforming the AM to secret ivy league cults you are in for a treat with every episode! Everything feels very cinematic: conversations and action sequences alike. This show is for everyone, but especially for anyone who knows what it's like to be othered by society. There's also an episode with a deaf character (the first I'd experienced in audio-only format) and it's so respectfully done and I can't recommend this show highly enough!!
I enjoyed first two seasons very much, but couldn't really get into season 3. At the point I was listening, all the characters seemed very well written - each was their own person with their own background and seem real enough to empathise with them easily - except for Damien.
This podcast made me laugh, and it made me cry.And I loved it right until the end. A beautifully crafted and written story that everyone should listen to.
The world sucks you in and you feel like you know the characters like your best friends. It's heartwarming and not too anxiety-inducing even in its thrilling moments. I love the fact that it is LGBT+ inclusive and it doesn't make it weird. This is my all-time-favorite podcast.
