Joe Richard Lansdale is a writer and martial arts instructor. He is the writer in residence at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also teaches at his studio, Lansdale's Self Defense Systems.Lansdale's first novel, "Act of Love," was published in 1981. Since then, he has published over 40 novels and over 30 collections, plus comic books and screenplays. He works in many genres, including Western, horror, science fiction, mystery, and suspense. Several of his novels have been adapted for film and television. In addition to his real name, he has published under the names Ray Slater, Brad Simmons, and Jack Buchanan.Lansdale has received the British Fantasy Award, the American Horror Award, the Edgar Award, and eleven Bram Stoker Awards.
