I've read some reviews of this podcast. people are complaining left and right (hah, get it?) that they can't know what's happening based on sounds alone - yes, "squelch, squelch, meat sounds, shriek" happens plenty in this podcast. and I just think, wow. it's such a lazy approach to consuming fiction. the audience has a duty to engage with the story and b u i l d upon the foundation the creator provided. you're supposed to actively imagine an outcome as horrific as you can stomach in stories like this one. this story allows you to make your own personal monster. you have an active role as a listener. you participate in the way the story gets told.but, yes, there are moments when weird spooky sounds happen and it's up to you to interpret what they mean. if you prefer to be passive and get a straightforward story that explains everything to the listener step by step, leaving no room for engagement, skip this podcast. but I must say, the weird spooky sounds are superbly made, and the soundscaping is quite literally insane here. hats off to the sound designers and actors alike. captivating depictions of grievous bodily harm.and yeah, the story is great. I read it on reddit when it came out and I very much prefer it in the audio format. the original shines in this medium. I highly recommend giving it a listen, especially if you're into found footage, uncanny valley and characters doomed by the narrative, trapped in a story that that unbeknownst to them is just a giant loop.
