The Revolutionary Sistas of the Diaspora is a group of Black and Brown Sistas coming together to discuss topical issues of race, social & economic justice, gender equality and everything in between.
Our voting system is in dire jeopardy. For several years, state after state have enacted laws that slowly but surely erode voting rights in an attempt to silence broad segments of our electorate. This show explores the complicated landscape of our electoral system, and what we can do defend our rights. Our special guest is Nicole Austin-Hillery, Director and Counsel- Washington Office, Brennan Center for Justice.
Ms. Austin-Hillery is the organization’s chief liaison to Congress and the Administration. Her portfolio includes voting rights, racial and criminal justice advocacy and reform, indigent defense and vote restoration for those who have lost the right to vote. She serves as both a media spokesperson and frequent presenter on Brennan Center issues, and has written opinion pieces for several publications including Roll Call, The Root, CNN.Com and BillMoyers.Com as well as several advocacy publications. She has testified before state and local legislative bodies as well as submitted testimony for Congressional hearings and serves as a frequent speaker on a host of public interest issues.
