Welcome to the Puzzle is Real podcast where
0:02
we will be discussing faith, family, and
0:04
Relationships hosted by Matt
0:07
and Melissa Pisani . This
0:09
is The Puzzle is Real podcast when
0:11
you know, you know.
0:14
All right . Welcome back. We are the
0:19
podcast building.
0:21
We are here y'all. Yep , I said
0:23
it y'all. And , uh, it's
0:25
been quite some time, but we are back and excited
0:28
and just ready to jump into the topic
0:30
of the day and we hope
0:32
that you all will be blessed by what
0:35
we want to share , um,
0:37
with you guys.
0:40
So we are really excited
0:42
with what's going on in , in God's
0:45
family within the church, which in
0:47
our, our mind has been outside
0:50
of the building and, and physically we've been outside
0:52
the building. We've been outside of the building since the pandemic
0:54
five years ago. But we're
0:56
still accountable to the body of Christ and
0:58
the building, so don't get it twisted. A lot of
1:00
times we have people that are separate from
1:03
the body and um, that can be dangerous. So
1:05
we've been doing outreach, it's called the Joy Jam
1:07
here in Charleston. It's been powerful. It's
1:09
pretty prophetic on how it all came about and
1:13
yeah, just be encouraged about what
1:15
you're about to hear.
1:16
So when Matt and I first moved to South
1:18
Carolina, didn't really know anybody, but
1:21
we did move into a new neighborhood where we
1:23
were kind of all on the same playing field. And
1:25
so we said, Hey, why
1:28
don't we start a men's and women's prayer
1:30
group? Matt actually started first with the
1:32
men 'cause we had just had Magnolia
1:34
and I just wasn't quite ready <laugh> to
1:37
dive into that yet 'cause I was still in the newborn
1:39
phase. But we, I
1:41
eventually had gotten there, but we
1:43
had started this prayer group. Awesome.
1:46
We have had many different neighbors join
1:48
and we had been meeting for over a year
1:51
and then one of the gentlemen
1:54
who's part of Matt's group said,
1:56
Hey, I think I really feel led that we should
1:58
be reaching out to the community. And
2:01
you know, that kind of sparked our interest 'cause
2:03
we're like, yeah, this is something we've been praying about and
2:05
this is kind of where our wheelhouse is, is
2:08
you know, when the pandemic hit in 2020, we
2:10
opened up our front lawn in New
2:12
York and said, we're just gonna have church on the lawn
2:15
and this is what we're gonna do. And that we saw amazing
2:17
things happen during that time just from
2:19
our , our obedience. And when
2:22
we were like, yeah, let's do it here. That's
2:24
really how the Joy Jam was birthed,
2:27
was from our prayer groups being obedient
2:29
with starting that and then saying, yeah, let's reach
2:31
out to the community. Let's reach out to those who
2:34
won't go to a prayer meeting, who won't
2:36
go to a church building, but they'll come to an
2:38
outside green space where there's live
2:40
worship and there's a message,
2:43
there's activities for the kids and it's really
2:45
non-threatening. So it's like, even if
2:47
you're not a believer , um, you
2:49
would come and still feel the love of God and
2:52
you hopefully would hear the
2:54
love of, you know, would hear it from other people and
2:56
just see how believers are
2:58
living their lives together. That this is not
3:00
this fake , um, manufactured
3:03
relationship, but this is authentic and
3:05
we have a heart for the one to
3:08
go after the one that's our heart. And
3:10
we've just seen so many amazing things already
3:12
and just how even our local church here,
3:15
Seaco has gotten behind us and said, Hey, will
3:18
you do a joy jam? We
3:20
had just did , did one the month prior and
3:22
they said, why don't you do another Joy jam
3:25
and model to volunteers, how, how
3:27
you guys are doing this and then maybe that'll spark
3:29
their interest to want to do it in their community
3:31
because it's nothing. The formula is
3:34
very simple, you know, you just get other
3:36
like-minded believers and reach out to your
3:38
community in whatever gifts and talents you have
3:41
and people will come. Oh yeah . So
3:43
I just think it's just a really powerful testimony
3:46
and um, encouragement
3:48
to the church to say, Hey, let's
3:50
reach out to those who won't go into the building
3:52
and we're called to love God
3:55
and to make him known. Right. And this
3:58
is our way of making him known and going after the
4:00
people who wouldn't go into church settings.
4:02
Yeah. It's been really amazing
4:06
to see how many people have found purpose
4:08
in serving the community
4:10
that we live in and serving as
4:12
the church people from different churches, different
4:15
denominations coming together as
4:17
one church to point
4:19
people to Jesus and to point people to
4:22
the love of Jesus. So the verse that I
4:24
wanted to share with you quick, and if
4:26
you have a moment and you're not driving or
4:28
you're not running and you're just sitting, you're actually
4:30
waiting with bated breath to hear this.
4:33
It's uh , Galatians five. And
4:35
it's, it's really , um, it's
4:39
important to um, really tie this in, but
4:41
it's life by the spirit is midway
4:43
through Galatians five, right? If you look down to
4:47
verses 13 through
4:49
15, or actually 13 to 14,
4:52
it's you, my brothers and sisters were called to
4:54
be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge
4:56
the flesh, rather serve one another humbly
4:59
in love. So that's important right there serving
5:01
one another. And recently on our serve day with
5:03
our church, we were serving the community and
5:05
serving one another in love. And
5:08
as you go to verse 14 says, for the entire
5:11
law is fulfilled in keeping
5:13
this one command, love your neighbor
5:15
as yourself. So that's been our heart.
5:18
How can we love our neighbors as ourself
5:20
? And that's not just the people on our block, but
5:22
throughout the holy city of Charleston and
5:25
wherever we go, wherever we travel. And
5:27
I think that that's applicable to all of our lives
5:29
to just keep loving people. And it comes from
5:33
not only intimacy with God, but it's
5:35
usually innately in us. And, and
5:37
joy is something that comes from God as well where
5:40
we are able to impart that in other people
5:42
and it's contagious. So we've
5:45
seen the movement of this, we're excited
5:47
to share it and I think that this was just
5:49
the beginning of us scratching the surface of what God
5:51
wants to do with the revival over
5:54
our country.
5:55
Yeah. And I just wanna give a quick , uh, testimony
5:58
of just how the joy jam and
6:00
just us living the way that we are living, how
6:03
it's ministering to those who
6:05
have never experienced that before. And
6:08
so my brother had moved here in October of last
6:10
year and he moved with my cousin Matt,
6:12
who um, was an addict for
6:14
most of his life. And he was finally
6:16
clean. He had been clean for about a year and a
6:19
half and he was living in
6:21
a sober house in Asheville. And unfortunately
6:23
because of that insane
6:25
hurricane, hurricane Helene , he
6:27
got displaced. So now he wasn't
6:30
there. He went back home to North
6:32
Carolina to his parents and my
6:34
brother now is moving, okay,
6:37
go ahead. So he is moving to Charleston and
6:41
my cousin Matt decided to come with
6:43
him. And at first we were not
6:46
happy at all just because of his history
6:48
and just who he was. And I just felt very angry
6:51
and you know, I didn't
6:53
want, I didn't want my brother to
6:55
relapse or to be surrounded near
6:57
people, you know, who could
7:00
be a bad influence. 'cause I haven't seen my cousin in,
7:02
you know, a long time and I haven't, the last time
7:04
I saw him, I mean he's, he's not been sober. So
7:08
anyway, so he had moved here and I was very
7:10
hesitant to even see him. And then I remember we
7:12
saw him for the first time and
7:15
there was just this urgency that Matt and I
7:17
both had, my husband Matt , um,
7:20
to minister to him and to just share
7:23
about Jesus. 'cause he had never truly
7:25
heard the gospel before. And after
7:28
the first meeting I remember the
7:30
Lord just speaking to me and just
7:32
a soft still voice and said, love
7:35
him. Like I love him. And
7:38
I just kind of broke down 'cause I was very
7:40
like, ah , I don't really want to. And
7:42
it's like, we're called to love our neighbor. They're literally
7:44
living up the block from us and
7:48
they're truly our neighbors. And now God's telling
7:50
me to love him as he
7:52
loves him. And so I remember just hearing that small
7:54
still voice and saying, okay, we're just gonna love
7:56
him and you know, we got to spend Thanksgiving with
7:59
him. And you know, we took them sightseeing
8:01
and just really brought them into our life. And
8:05
I saw the transformation that
8:07
was happening right before my eyes with my cousin and
8:09
just how he was open to the gospel. He
8:12
had a lot of questions. Um, he
8:14
was excited about it and unfortunately
8:18
he went back home around Christmas
8:20
time and relapsed
8:22
and unfortunately passed away. And
8:25
it was very sudden it was horrific.
8:27
But before that, he got to
8:29
experience the Joy Jam
8:32
and he came to the Joy Jam and he helped
8:34
us set up. Him and my brother Doug were
8:36
just, you know, amazing at doing all the background
8:38
stuff. And I just remember him saying like,
8:41
wow, you guys are doing life
8:43
with your neighbors. You're opening this
8:45
up to other people. His mind was
8:48
literally blown and 'cause he had never experienced
8:50
that. So I look at that, and
8:52
this is just one story that I know of because it
8:55
was, you know, my family of just how
8:57
us living in community and reaching out
8:59
to those impacts people I think eternally.
9:02
And although he
9:04
passed away and we know we
9:07
didn't know where he was at spiritually, but
9:09
we did find a journal that
9:11
he had left. And basically he had
9:13
said he surrendered his life to God and
9:16
that he finally has put his faith in
9:19
God. Um, I don't
9:21
know where he was at with Jesus, but
9:23
he , he did say God. And so I believe that
9:25
the Lord sent him here for us to just
9:28
minister to him and to give him an opportunity to
9:30
be saved before he took him , um,
9:33
before it was his time, really. 'cause we have free
9:35
will. But that's just
9:38
one story. And I just hold
9:40
onto the promise of just who God is
9:42
and his character and what he's
9:44
done for us personally and what he can do for
9:46
so many and for us to just be the vessels
9:49
that he wants to use to
9:51
bring people to eternity with him. That's
9:53
the goal. It's like we're saving souls.
9:55
It's not just this fellowship and yeah, that's
9:57
great, but we want a
10:00
soul transformation. And for people to truly
10:02
give their life to, to Jesus and
10:04
for us to be disobedient
10:07
to what God wants to do, I think is just
10:09
the most important thing. And that's what I wanna encourage
10:11
you guys to do is how
10:13
can you reach out to those? And just
10:16
as we have been really focusing on the fruits
10:18
of the spirit at our church lately , um,
10:22
you know, unfortunately our head pastor, founding
10:24
pastor, his brother passed away suddenly
10:26
at a very young age and
10:30
reminded him and reminded us that we
10:32
don't have a second, we're not promised, we're
10:36
not promised a second at at this life,
10:38
right? So when we go,
10:40
where are we going? And those people that you
10:43
love and that are in your life, where
10:45
are they going? And I feel like I, I know
10:47
me personally, I've had this urgency to just share
10:49
with people and I don't care if I'm
10:51
rejected. I don't care if they look at me like I'm crazy 'cause
10:54
I care so much about them that I want them
10:56
to be able to spend eternity with Jesus. And
10:59
that's my encouragement for you guys is to
11:01
who in your life, whether it a family, friend,
11:05
coworker , stranger, neighbor, can
11:07
you reach out to, to show the love of Christ too.
11:09
And you could do it in simple ways.
11:12
And we've done that in simple ways, and I think we've shared
11:14
that in the past of just,
11:17
you know, making cookies for neighbors or inviting
11:19
them to the playground or whatever that may look
11:21
like. But life is short.
11:24
How are we impacting our communities? How
11:26
are we loving our neighbor? And what
11:28
can you do in a tangible way to reach out
11:30
to the lost ?
11:32
