Charlie Puth grew up in Rumson, New Jersey. His mother, a music teacher, started giving Charlie piano lessons when he was only four. By age 12 was playing piano for tips at restaurants around town. From 7th grade, Charlie attended the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College, followed by Berklee College of Music. He gained a YouTube following by posting daily vlogs and songs like "Sexy Shades." While in college, he and a classmate won a video competition for their cover of Adele's song "Someone Like You" -- the video went viral and they were invited to perform on Ellen. After college, Charlie was invited to Los Angeles to work as a songwriter, where he quickly transitioned from writer to pop star by penning hits like "See You Again" and "Marvin Gaye."
