okay , so

0:07

my headphones

0:10

on or

0:14

my earbuds , what do you want to call them ? So

0:21

I want to talk about ring etiquette

0:23

for just a second , a little

0:26

bit more than a second . But I

0:31

saw a UPS truck parked across

0:33

the street last night Someone's

0:37

getting a package . Didn't

0:39

think much about it and

0:43

so this morning I don't know why I thought about it . And so this morning

0:45

I don't know why I thought

0:47

about it , but

0:50

I thought I should check my

0:53

ring camera

0:55

on my phone to see if that

0:57

was for us . So

1:00

I got on . The ring app

1:03

went to yesterday

1:05

night . Last evening about

1:09

5 o'clock , 5.15

1:11

, something like that . Sure

1:15

enough , ups guy had walked

1:17

up to our house

1:19

and dropped off a package

1:21

and as he walked away he yelled out UPS

1:24

dropped

1:28

off a package and as he walked away he yelled

1:30

out ubs . Now I'm not . I wish they would ring the doorbell . So when

1:32

and my ring did make its

1:34

little funny sound on my phone , I just

1:36

didn't pay any attention to it because

1:38

it goes off so much anymore

1:41

. I just get tired of looking at it because

1:44

it's usually nothing more than a car going by

1:46

or someone walking on the sidewalk . So

1:50

I didn't look . It did go off yesterday

1:52

and I didn't pay attention to it . So

1:56

anyway , I just wish , uh , if

1:58

I was a UPS driver , I think I would ring the doorbell

2:01

just to make sure everybody knows that I'm

2:03

there and that I left a package . Okay

2:05

, even though

2:07

Ring will notify you if you have it set up on

2:09

your phone , which most

2:12

people do so

2:18

when I ever get to talk and I start

2:20

yawning . I don't know why that is so

2:24

. This morning I looked on the like . I said

2:26

looked on ring , and there was the eps driver leaving

2:29

a package . Oh okay . But

2:32

I saw another motion detection

2:34

a little bit later

2:36

. Uh , so I looked

2:38

at it and it was about seven o'clock

2:40

and it

2:43

was this lady walking up

2:45

our uh site

2:49

not sidewalk , but up the uh steps

2:52

to our house . She gets

2:55

up to the porch , leans

2:57

over , grabs the package , doesn't

2:59

grab it dummy , just picks it up , turns

3:01

around , walks back down

3:04

the steps and down

3:06

the sidewalk until it was out of view

3:08

from my camera . So

3:11

I'm instantly thinking that we just

3:13

got ripped off , that the porch

3:15

pirate came . Have

3:17

no idea who this was , except when I got to looking

3:19

at it it

3:36

looked like our neighbor . Kind of

3:38

not , but kind of so . So

3:41

here's the back story there . So our

3:43

neighbor has the UPS

3:47

and the post office have been delivering

3:49

a lot of her mail to our house with

3:52

our address on the envelopes

3:54

or boxes . Not sure how that happened , why that's happening , but anyway . So we

3:56

take the envelopes or boxes not sure how that happened , why that's happening , but anyway . So

3:59

we take the mail in the boxes and we go

4:01

over to her house and if she's not

4:03

there , she we leave them in

4:05

the mailbox or on on the front

4:07

steps there , and

4:10

I guess I should be taking my own advice here

4:12

in just a second . So

4:14

I guess that's what happened this

4:16

time . Uh ups came by

4:18

, left a package at our front door

4:21

, thinking he was delivering it to the right

4:23

place based on the address . I'm sure it

4:26

was the right address , but it was really meant

4:28

for our neighbor . So

4:31

anyway , that's

4:33

how I'm sure they figured

4:35

out . Uh ups probably sent

4:38

a picture of the package being dropped off

4:40

as a matter of fact , I know they did , cause I

4:42

saw him take a picture on the video from

4:44

ring . Uh , they

4:46

realized that that was their package . Um

4:49

came over , picked it up , walked

4:51

away . Okay , now

4:53

here's what . Here's the suggestion

4:56

I want to make to everyone out

4:58

there with a ring doorbell , if

5:03

you're doing a good deed , or

5:05

if something like

5:07

that happened , where a package

5:09

got delivered to your neighbor's

5:11

house and

5:14

you realize this is the case , go over

5:16

, pick up your package , go ahead , because it's yours

5:18

. But also , either

5:21

ring the doorbell or

5:24

, chances are , ring

5:26

is already recording

5:28

you as you walked up to the front of

5:31

the house , so you could just talk to the

5:33

ring device and say hey , this

5:35

is Scott , I

5:37

had a package delivered to you guys

5:39

by mistake and I'm coming by to pick it up . Um

5:43

, have a great day . Uh

5:45

, call me if you need anything and

5:49

then walk away instead of . And so when

5:51

you don't do that , it kind of looks real suspicious

5:54

. You know , and you're walking up to

5:56

the house , you pick up the package and you walk away

5:58

, so covert . Maybe

6:00

some other neighbors are seeing what's going on and they're thinking

6:02

that you're taking the other

6:05

person's package . Is

6:07

that getting confusing ? Anyway , that's

6:09

what I would do , just , and so I'm suggesting

6:12

to everyone out there with the ring camera if you go to

6:14

somebody's house , because you gotta . Uh

6:16

like , like one time

6:18

a neighbor had their trash can out

6:20

. They were on vacation and it didn't get taken

6:23

in . So I walked over there and I uh

6:26

, grabbed their trash can and pulled

6:28

it up to the house for him . What

6:30

I should have done , because I know

6:32

ring caught that it was

6:35

just hey , this Scott just wanted

6:37

to , you know , give

6:39

you a helping hand while you're away , bringing

6:42

up your trash can . Mystery

6:44

solved . Chances are they would have figured that out

6:46

anyway , but it clears

6:48

everything up . We've got to realize

6:50

these things are recording

6:52

and so

6:55

use this to our advantage

6:57

to communicate with each other , instead

7:00

of thinking we're going to sneak

7:02

up , get our package that's rightfully

7:05

ours , and then walk away and hope nobody sees

7:07

, or hope I don't have to talk to anybody , just

7:09

own it . Just say , hey , this guy , I'm coming , you know

7:11

, all right , your name . Hey , I'm coming

7:14

by to pick up the package . Don't

7:16

want to bother you . If you have any questions

7:19

, call me , you

7:21

know , anyway we'll see , uh , see you

7:23

later and walk away . There

7:26

you go . So

7:28

there's my suggestion , ring

7:30

. This is this is

7:32

totally different from a porch pirate . We're

7:35

not talking about stealing theft , we're not talking about any

7:37

of that kind of stuff . We're just talking about if

7:40

you come up to a person's house

7:42

because Maybe

7:45

you brought a shovel and you want to bring it back

7:47

and it doesn't look

7:49

like their home . So you just leave the shovel

7:51

on the front porch . That's cool

7:53

. But chances are they

7:55

have a ring or some blink or something and

7:58

just say you don't

8:00

even have to ring the doorbell , or you could , and

8:02

then that would alert them , wherever

8:04

they are , that

8:08

you're on the front porch leaving

8:10

a shovel or whatever , and

8:13

just talk to them and they might want to talk back to you

8:15

because you can On your iPhone or

8:17

Android , I guess you can talk

8:20

to the person that's at your front

8:22

door without coming to your front door . You

8:24

can be halfway around the world and still

8:26

talk to them . So anyway , just a little

8:28

etiquette there with the ring , don't

8:32

try to don't come . If you come

8:34

into somebody's house and don't say anything and just

8:36

kind of come up and go away , looks very

8:38

suspicious and then on the person

8:40

watching the video , like me this

8:42

morning , it just looks funny . I

8:45

don't know . What are your thoughts ? What

8:47

am I on track here ? Or

8:49

Would

8:52

you do what I am suggesting we

8:54

do ? Is it that big

8:56

a deal ? Maybe it's not . Anyway

8:59

, leave your comments . Leave

9:02

a comment . Send me an email , scott

9:04

, it's got Townsend dot infofo . Uh

9:07

, subscribe like , share

9:10

all that stuff . Um

9:12

, yeah , so

9:15

for scott townsend

9:17

, no , not for scott townsend , for

9:19

you , and

9:21

I'm not sure what I'm trying

9:24

to say anyway . Oh , another thing I'm doing

9:26

is I'm posting unedited videos

9:28

. Speaking of unedited , posting

9:30

unedited videos to the YouTube channel

9:32

and then posting edited content

9:35

on the Buzzsprout

9:37

podcast platform

9:39

, which pushes this podcast out to

9:42

Apple , spotify , wherever

9:47

you get your iTunes

9:56

, wherever you get your podcasts . So

9:59

I'm going to post the edited

10:01

version there and then I'm

10:03

going to just

10:06

let it all hang out on the video . Um

10:09

, because it takes a long time to edit a video and I'm

10:11

kind of tired of that right now . I might

10:13

get back to it later , but anyway , I'm just going to post

10:15

it whatever . Post

10:18

all the flaws , mistakes , it's it

10:20

. I'm not trying to make it pretty , you know

10:22

. If you want to watch it , fine , if not , that's great

10:24

. But you know , most part

10:26

I'm really uh , doubling down

10:28

on people listening , you know , while you're walking

10:30

your dog , doing the dishes at the gym

10:32

, driving On

10:36

a walk , whatever . I

10:38

think this is the way to . This

10:40

is the more popular way to digest this

10:43

show , as most podcasts . So

10:46

, anyway , I hope you guys

10:48

have a great day . Let me know what you think about what

10:51

we talked about today . This

10:56

is Scott Townsend . Thanks for listening

10:59

to the Scott Townsend Show . Have

11:01

a great day . Everything's going to be all right

11:03

and we'll talk to you later

11:05

, and

11:08

I'm going to stop recording .
