Fantastic. Absolutely loved this podcast. I think that if the MPR looked back a bit further, she would find that much of the current cancel culture and group shaming started within the HP fandom in the late 90s and early '00s. It began on the HP Yahoo group, fanfic sites, and LiveJournal, not Tumblr or Twitter. It was insane. JKR knows this.
Biased drivel posing as representing both sides of a "debate." At one point Megan Phelps-Roper goes so far as to comment how (paraphrasing) trans people are wanting to be treated as if they should be inherently equal but, as a society, we haven't come to the consensus that they deserve that yet. No shit Sherlock. Thanks for further dehumanizing a vulnerable minority. You can take the girl out of Westboro but you can't take the Westboro out of the girl apparently.
The right person for the job. In context, I felt MPR could have pushed JKR a little more, but that is a small point within an extensive conversation.
A really well done podcast around a very controversial topic. Host handles this with care and respect, pushes back when necessary, yet allowing for discourse and discussion.
A very interesting and telling podcast. And the one 🌟 reviews show us the hateful characters they claim J.K. Rowling allegedly is.
I did not know what the expect from this podcast, and I found it fascinating. You don't have to agree or disagree with Rowling, or even have an opinion either way, to learn something from it. If we all approached ideas that seem wrong to us with the openness and compassion that Phelps-Roper shows everyone in this podcast, we would be in a much better place.
Really well done and fascinating podcast. Much wider discussion than just Rowling, talking about online communities and the way the internet has changed society.
Natalie Wynn aka Contrapoints was one of only two trans people Phelbs felt like even talking to. Once she knew that her interview footage has been edited in misleading ways she did a two hour video meticulously dissecting this propaganda series.Like all smart modern hate speech this series is full of dog-whistling, concern trolling and victim blaming. Phelps-Roper is too narcissistically obsessed with her own redemption arc to ever wrestle with the harm she has done and it only follows she is a big fan of TERF JKR and her also very narcissistic persecution complex.
