When Mary saw the risen Christ,
0:05
she was weeping outside the tomb.
0:07
This is today in the Word Moody Bible Institute's
0:10
daily devotional. And I'm John Geiger with today's
0:12
reading. Hoping your day is going smoothly.
0:15
Some days, don't you know? Well,
0:17
back to our story. Two angels appeared at
0:19
that tomb and the question they asked
0:21
was sincere why should
0:23
Christ's disciples weep since Jesus
0:25
had been raised from the dead, just as he
0:28
said? But they were also meant
0:30
to help Mary help her
0:32
understand what had happened. Jesus
0:34
questions are as leading as the angels.
0:36
It's not hard to imagine that he asked them
0:39
with a smile, especially when Jesus,
0:41
whose body Mary was seeking, asks,
0:44
who is it you are looking for? Mary
0:46
didn't recognize her savior at first.
0:48
Maybe her eyes were blinded by tears,
0:51
or perhaps it was simply due to the incongruity
0:53
of seeing him alive outside
0:56
of his own tomb. It's fitting
0:58
that the sound of Jesus calling her name
1:01
was what enabled Mary to recognize her
1:03
risen Lord. Jesus had said that
1:05
the Good Shepherd's sheep follow
1:07
him because they know his name,
1:10
because they know his voice. When
1:12
he calls them by name, they respond
1:14
in faith and follow him. Today
1:17
in the word, we hear Mary's fabulous testimony
1:19
in John 20, verse 18. I
1:21
have seen the Lord. John
1:24
may have been the first to believe that Jesus
1:26
had risen from the dead, but Mary
1:28
was the first disciple to see the risen
1:30
Christ. She was also the first person
1:32
to be commissioned by Christ to bear witness
1:35
to what she had seen. Have
1:37
you made Jesus in charge of your life?
1:40
The Bible word is Savior. If you've never
1:42
done that, you'd like to be forgiven of your wrongdoing
1:44
made right with God. That can happen today
1:47
and a friend will be glad to pray with you. Now
1:49
when you call eight, eight, eight need
1:51
him, 888 need
1:53
him.
