1:20

Such a great question

1:23

Graham. Unfortunately,

1:25

in 100% of these cases,

1:27

I don't have the

1:29

honor of having known

1:32

these individuals until we're

1:34

contacted by the family

1:36

at such a devastating

1:38

time. And we get

1:40

to learn about them

1:42

through their loved ones, eyes

1:45

and their memories. And

1:47

Nick has become such a

1:50

a prevalent thought of mine

1:52

every day. There isn't a day

1:54

that goes by where I don't

1:56

have thoughts or come up with

1:58

ideas or strategize in some way.

2:00

because this young man, as

2:02

much as he had struggles

2:04

growing up, he was kind.

2:06

He was compassionate. If he

2:08

had one pair of shoes,

2:10

he'd give you the only

2:12

pair of shoes that he

2:15

had. He loved his family

2:17

deeply. He had a service,

2:19

servanthood. attitude if that's the

2:21

right way to say it.

2:23

He wanted to help and

2:25

do and just give to

2:27

others. He was just a

2:29

kind, quiet, diligent young man.

2:31

In the early morning hours

2:34

of March 17th, 2022, a

2:36

29-year-old man vanished after a

2:38

night out at the Moose

2:40

and Goose Bar in Thorold,

2:42

Ontario. He was last seen

2:44

outside the bar. He had

2:46

allegedly been denied reentry and

2:48

was separated from his friends.

2:50

Later, he made a series

2:52

of frantic phone calls to

2:55

his mother from a private

2:57

number. In one call, he

2:59

said he was at a

3:01

location in the nearby city

3:03

of St. Catherine's. When his

3:05

mother arrived at that location,

3:07

he was nowhere to be

3:09

found. His mother drove around

3:11

that night and did not

3:13

find him. At first, the

3:16

family thought maybe he stayed

3:18

at a friend's house. But

3:20

then two days passed with

3:22

no sign of him, and

3:24

reality set in. He was

3:26

missing. Where did he go

3:28

that night? And why did

3:30

the details surrounding his disappearance

3:32

feel off? This is the

3:35

story of Nicholas Adamson, and

3:37

you were listening to True

3:39

North True Crime. Hello

3:57

everyone and welcome to True North True Crime.

4:00

Thanks so much for joining us. I'm Caitlin

4:02

and with me as always is Graham. We're

4:04

glad to have you all here. We have

4:07

a case with many moving parts to present

4:09

this week. So let's go right ahead and

4:11

get right into this week's episode. In

4:26

this episode, we are talking

4:29

about the 2022 disappearance of

4:31

29-year-old Nicholas Adamson. Nick was

4:33

last seen outside of the

4:35

Moose and Goose Bar in

4:37

Thorold, Ontario in the early

4:39

morning hours of March 17th,

4:41

2022. Nicholas is described as

4:44

a white male, 29 years

4:46

old standing 5-foot 10 inches

4:48

tall and weighing about 140

4:50

pounds. Nick has dark brown

4:52

hair and has many Batman

4:54

theme tattoos, including a half

4:56

Batman, half Joker tattoo on

4:59

his left bicep. He was

5:01

last seen wearing blue jeans,

5:03

a white shirt with a

5:05

collar, a black tank top

5:07

underneath the button-up shirt, black

5:09

Nike Air Force One shoes,

5:11

and an earring in his

5:13

left ear, which was a

5:16

diamond stud. If you have

5:41

before we get into this

5:43

episode that no one has

5:46

been charged. or prosecuted in

5:48

connection with Nick's disappearance. Any

5:50

references to individuals in this

5:52

episode are purely for the

5:54

purpose of accurately presenting the

5:56

facts and theories surrounding the

5:58

case. Additionally, police have not

6:01

suggested that foul play is

6:03

involved. We put this episode

6:05

together using publicly available news articles

6:07

and we also spoke at length

6:09

with Kerry, an investigator, with Please

6:12

Bring Me Home. The mission of

6:14

Please Bring Me Home is to locate

6:16

missing loved ones. They are not trying

6:18

to solve crimes, but rather they endeavor

6:20

to bring loved ones home to their

6:22

families or in the event of death

6:24

they locate remains so that families can

6:26

have a sense of closure. As an additional

6:29

content warning, this episode has

6:31

mentions of drug use, suicide,

6:33

and human trafficking. This case

6:35

has ties to St. Catherine's, Ontario,

6:38

and the surrounding Niagara region. St.

6:40

Catherine's is the largest city in

6:42

the Niagara region, and it's strategically

6:44

located on the Niagara Peninsula, serving

6:47

as a central hub between Toronto

6:49

and the US border at Niagara

6:51

Falls. The city is bordered by

6:54

several neighbouring communities or cities.

6:56

And this is an important detail for

6:58

this week's case. One of those cities

7:01

is Thorold, Ontario, and it's directly

7:03

south of St. Catharines near the

7:05

Welland Canal. Welland is southwest of

7:07

St. Catharines and is recognized for

7:09

the Welland Canal, connecting Lake Ontario

7:12

and Lake Erie. And then, of

7:14

course, there's Niagara Falls, which is

7:16

to the southeast of St. Catharines,

7:18

famed for the iconic waterfall and

7:20

the Mighty Niagara River. All of

7:22

these communities are near or on Lake

7:24

Ontario. Now with regards to this

7:27

area and safety, St. Catharines

7:29

boasts a crime rate approximately

7:31

24% lower than the national

7:33

average, with violent crimes being

7:35

21% lower. The city's crime severity

7:37

index score stands at 54.7,

7:39

which is below Canada's national

7:41

index of 80.4. While residents

7:43

express moderate concerns about

7:45

crime, the overall statistics suggest

7:48

that St. Catharines is a

7:50

relatively safe community within the

7:52

Niagara region. Nicholas Adamson

7:54

was born in the Niagara

7:56

region of Ontario on September

7:59

21st, 1992. his mother Jennifer

8:01

and his father Bill. Nicholas has

8:03

two brothers and the family lives

8:05

in St. Catherine's Ontario. Their dad

8:08

Bill was a long-haul truck driver

8:10

and later a truck driving instructor.

8:12

Their mom Jennifer worked for the

8:15

LCBO, which gave her the opportunity

8:17

to have time to raise the

8:19

kids, while Bill was away trucking.

8:22

Now for this episode, Kerry is

8:24

our expert and sitting in as

8:26

the family spokesperson. Carrie has come

8:29

into Nicholas's life after his disappearance.

8:31

And as many of you know,

8:33

we like to learn as much

8:36

as we can about a person,

8:38

including their childhood. So as we

8:40

pose questions to Carrie about Nicholas's

8:43

early life, she took this opportunity

8:45

to talk to Jennifer in a

8:47

more in-depth way about young Nicholas.

8:50

So it's very interesting that you

8:52

asked this question because as much

8:54

as we... take a case, grab

8:57

it and just start pounding pavement

8:59

and open source to find the

9:01

individual. Many times we don't have

9:04

the opportunity to go back and

9:06

talk with mom or dad or

9:08

the loved one about who was

9:11

this person. So you know it

9:13

really opened up an opportunity to

9:15

say I want to talk about

9:18

Nick when he was little and

9:20

mom was really appreciated that opportunity

9:22

and I think she just wanted

9:25

to settle down and just talk

9:27

about who he was. And according

9:29

to Mom, Nick was diagnosed with

9:32

ADHD very young. He's one of

9:34

three boys in the family. And

9:36

he was very hyperactive, couldn't concentrate

9:39

on anything when he was little,

9:41

but you think, I had three

9:43

boys, they're all full of energy,

9:45

everything's normal, but it wasn't until

9:48

he went to kindergarten. And I

9:50

started to have some issues with

9:52

peers and with teachers. And back

9:55

then, which wasn't a long time,

9:57

we're talking maybe 15, 18 years.

10:01

There wasn't as much known about

10:03

ADHD and how to properly assist

10:06

young people through that journey. In

10:08

saying that Nick was very intelligent.

10:10

He thrived with math and English.

10:13

He loves sports. He was never

10:15

taught athlete, but hockey and soccer

10:17

were two of the top on

10:20

his lists. But as Mama said,

10:22

always busy, always doing, always going,

10:24

never sitting still, you know, part

10:27

of the ADHD was he didn't

10:29

concentrate very long on things. As

10:31

we look at where that has

10:34

taken him through his adult life,

10:36

you see, and we can talk

10:38

a little bit about where he

10:41

started to be a little bit

10:43

dependent on drugs to soothe some

10:45

of that busyness in his head.

10:48

But that's who Nick was as

10:50

a young person. As Nicholas made

10:53

his way into adulthood, he had

10:55

several retail-type jobs. He just wasn't

10:57

sure what he wanted to do.

11:00

And I think many people can

11:02

relate to not knowing what to

11:04

do or where to focus your

11:07

energy as you're entering your early

11:09

20s. So he, you know, when

11:11

I talked to mom about Nick's

11:14

aspiration, she really paused and she

11:16

said, he never really had any.

11:18

So because of the business in

11:21

his brain, he never really said,

11:23

you know, one day I want

11:25

to be a mechanic or one

11:28

day I want this. He just

11:30

managed each day as it came.

11:33

So he didn't finish high school.

11:35

He was only short a few

11:37

credits. He was almost at the

11:40

finish line and he didn't finish.

11:42

But he quickly went and worked

11:44

a job. He worked at Value

11:47

Village. For a while he changed

11:49

to a few different retail jobs.

11:51

Now lacking in aspirations should not

11:54

be equated to a lack of

11:56

passion. Nick had hobbies and knew

11:58

what he loved. Superheroes, video games,

12:01

and good movies were the top

12:03

of that list. As far as

12:05

when he spent during his downtime,

12:08

he loved movies, loved video games,

12:10

he loved comic books. Superheroes were

12:12

his thing. And we can tell

12:15

by some of the tattoos that

12:17

he had. Very much a superhero

12:20

comic book kind of guy. And

12:22

that's where he would relax, doing

12:24

those things. Eventually Nick moved out

12:27

of the family home and into

12:29

an apartment with one of his

12:31

brothers and by all accounts he

12:34

was doing well. Him and his

12:36

brother had an apartment together for

12:38

two years. So they moved out

12:41

of mom and dad's house. They

12:43

both had a day job and

12:45

they got an apartment together. They

12:48

were there for two years. They

12:50

did well. Both boys held a

12:52

job. Nick again was doing retail

12:55

and then... They moved back home

12:57

again, you know, and they wondered,

12:59

Nick was doing good. He was

13:02

able to hold down a job.

13:04

He was always very well liked

13:07

by Pierce. Everyone loved Nick. He

13:09

was easy going. He would do

13:11

anything you asked him to do.

13:14

And we see that story repeatedly

13:16

in these cases, where when you

13:18

talk about these individuals who go

13:21

missing, the sweetest individuals would give

13:23

you the shirt off his back

13:25

if that's all he had. And

13:28

that was Nick. So after some

13:30

time Nick left his job at

13:32

Value Village and began working at

13:35

a steel manufacturing plant. Now obviously

13:37

this would have been a big

13:39

change for him financially, but unfortunately

13:42

2020 hit and like many people

13:44

in Canada, Nick lost his job.

13:47

After Value Village, he went to

13:49

work at a steel company in

13:51

Wellland. He loved it there. But

13:54

in 2020 when the US increased

13:56

the tariffs on steel, he lost

13:58

that job. They were a rash

14:01

amount of layoffs. He got another

14:03

job in manufacturing. work some shifts

14:05

there, but then that job ended

14:08

and he went on unemployment December

14:10

of 2021. So Nick lost two

14:12

jobs in the course of a

14:15

year and he went on to

14:17

survive on E.I. or employment insurance

14:19

and ended up moving back home

14:22

with his parents. He was living

14:24

in the basement at his parents'

14:26

house and his mom said she

14:29

would rarely see him. She knows

14:31

he would be there. He would

14:34

be doing video games, watching movies,

14:36

chatting with friends, or he would

14:38

be out chilling at a friend's

14:41

house. So go crash at someone's

14:43

place. He wasn't someone that would

14:45

go to the bars all the

14:48

time. Mom says she didn't remember

14:50

him saying that he was doing

14:52

any of that. But it was

14:55

more chilling at his place or

14:57

chilling with his friends. Prior to

14:59

him being laid off. He would

15:02

help a buddy sometimes do roofing

15:04

on the weekend. So if someone

15:06

needed help is something they would

15:09

call Nick, Nick would be there.

15:11

But he lived a very low-key

15:13

life after he lost his job

15:16

and his unemployment ended. He had

15:18

one girl that was a good

15:21

friend of his from high school.

15:23

They had been friends, were still

15:25

friends, and she's been such a...

15:28

advocate for Nick through his disappearance.

15:30

Then we know he had this

15:32

one girl, that he was wanting

15:35

to hang out with a little

15:37

more. His best friend, they had

15:39

been friends for many years, and

15:42

allegedly, the best friend's family also

15:44

always welcomed Nick into their home.

15:46

And there was a couple other

15:49

people in his life, his two

15:51

brothers, but other than that. that

15:53

was the extent of it. He

15:56

wasn't a partier, he wasn't, you

15:58

know, out hanging out with the

16:00

masses, he was a little more

16:03

low-key. During this period, things began

16:05

to shift for Nick. He started

16:08

spending more time with a close

16:10

friend who will refer to as

16:12

best friend and also at this

16:15

time a new woman entered his

16:17

life though their relationship was not

16:19

romantic. For the purposes of this

16:22

episode we'll call her new woman.

16:24

There may have also been some

16:26

other new individuals who became part

16:29

of Nick's social circle. people who

16:31

may not have had his best

16:33

interest at heart and could have

16:36

taken advantage of Nick's generous nature.

16:38

It was around this time that

16:40

Nick may have had some involvement

16:43

with illegal drugs. However, there is

16:45

little evidence to suggest that he

16:48

was dealing drugs or personally struggling

16:50

with addiction. So between December 2021

16:52

and March of 2022, when Nick

16:55

went missing, he had no income

16:57

during those months. And he was

16:59

really struggling. He was struggling with

17:02

the expectation that he'd be working,

17:04

the expectation that he would have

17:06

goals, the expectation that he would

17:09

contribute. And he wasn't meeting any

17:11

of those expectations and he tended

17:13

to withdraw it. There was no

17:16

real evidence to her as a

17:18

mom that Nick was drowning in

17:20

drugs. She knew that he probably

17:23

did a bit of weed here

17:25

and there, but other than that,

17:27

until the time that he went

17:30

missing, she didn't see him personally

17:32

involved in a lot of drug

17:35

activity. But when we look back

17:37

and know what we know today,

17:39

we believe that there were individuals

17:42

in Nick's life. who were taking

17:44

advantage of his caring spirit. And

17:46

he would be ended up being

17:49

a little bit of a runner.

17:51

So he would go get and

17:53

drop off. Individuals would need something.

17:56

It would be Nick, they would

17:58

call to go get something. bring

18:00

it to him. And many times

18:03

I think Nick needed to do

18:05

that with that transaction of

18:07

I do this for you,

18:09

you care about me as an

18:11

individual, you love me, you

18:14

want to be with me,

18:16

and that became his rhythm.

18:18

Very much a middleman, not

18:20

a, not a connect in

18:23

a large aspect. We asked

18:25

Kerry more about the new

18:27

woman in Nick's life life.

18:29

So there was a girl

18:32

that Nick really liked during

18:34

this time and this girl

18:36

obviously had a habit and

18:39

she would demand that Nick

18:41

go and get what she

18:43

needed and she from what

18:45

we believe and what we've seen

18:48

whether it be on his phone

18:50

or through interviews she didn't love

18:52

Nick and he so much had

18:55

fallen in love with her and

18:57

he thought this would be a

18:59

way that maybe she would open

19:02

up a little bit to him

19:04

and opportunities as far as a

19:06

relationship is concerned. So he would

19:09

go get what they needed and

19:11

bring it to them and

19:13

them being her, his best

19:15

friend, different individuals that in

19:18

their close circle. We don't

19:20

have any evidence to support

19:22

the fact that he did that

19:24

on a larger scale. Despite these

19:26

recent changes in Nick's life, he was

19:29

still very much a home body. His

19:31

brother Jordan stated the following

19:33

in an interview with Thorald

19:35

today. He likes being at home

19:37

and sleeping in his own bed. He

19:39

almost always ends the night at home.

19:42

If he goes out, he almost always

19:44

gets home or calls someone to pick

19:46

him up. We're now going to take a

19:48

quick break. When we return, we will

19:50

go through the timeline of

19:53

Nick Adamson's disappearance disappearance disappearance.

26:27

that night at the bar, all

26:29

was good, according to witnesses. Nick

26:31

was drinking, he was dancing, he

26:33

was chatting with individuals there that

26:35

he knew. We know and believe

26:38

that he went out to have

26:40

a smoke. When he went to

26:42

get back in the bar, the

26:44

bouncer said that he couldn't go

26:46

back in. They weren't going to

26:48

let him in. They said that

26:50

he was too intoxicated and they

26:52

wouldn't let him back in. So

26:55

what began as a seemingly good

26:57

night at the bar soon took

26:59

a strange turn for Nicholas Adamson.

27:01

The events surrounding Nick's disappearance have

27:03

been described in two different ways.

27:05

In the first version, Nick reportedly

27:07

stepped outside of the bar to

27:10

have a smoke and make a

27:12

call using a phone borrowed from

27:14

his best friend. He was trying

27:16

to contact his mother Jennifer to

27:18

ask for an e-transfer. When Nick

27:20

attempted to re-enter the bar, he

27:22

was denied entry, either due to

27:24

his level of intoxication. or because

27:27

it was nearing last call, that

27:29

again has been described both those

27:31

ways. According to what has been

27:33

learned, Nick was only outside the

27:35

bar for a few minutes before

27:37

trying to return. According to what

27:39

has been learned, Nick was only

27:41

outside of the bar for a

27:44

few minutes before trying to re-enter.

27:46

Now the second version of the

27:48

story suggests that a verbal altercation

27:50

occurred either inside or outside of

27:52

the bar, leading to Nick and

27:54

his best friend being outside and

27:56

allegedly involved in a confrontation with

27:58

at least two individuals. when Nick

28:01

tried to re-enter the bar, he

28:03

was denied entry, and this was

28:05

reportedly around 1.14am. Now regardless of

28:07

which account is accurate, the result was

28:09

the same. Nick found himself outside of

28:11

the bar without his car and with

28:14

a borrowed phone. Nick's mother Jennifer

28:16

later shared her understanding of the

28:18

situation in a Facebook post, stating,

28:20

quote, as far as I'm aware

28:22

there was no confrontation between Nick

28:24

and the bouncer, I do not know

28:26

who the bouncer was that evening. I'm

28:29

not privy to that information even though

28:31

I asked the police outright. The police

28:33

tell me he was refused because it

28:35

was last call. But his one buddy

28:37

said a different thing, which was that

28:39

the bouncer said he was too

28:41

intoxicated. Nicholas did not have his

28:44

own cell and therefore probably could not

28:46

order an Uber even though there was

28:48

money in his account. So many

28:50

scenarios of what he could have

28:52

done, but unfortunately he did not do

28:54

them. But what's unfortunate is that

28:56

not one single person has

28:59

come forward that remembers seeing

29:01

him that night walking in

29:03

Thorold. Now what happens next

29:05

again remains unclear, but it

29:08

is certain that Nick needed

29:10

help. He called the one person

29:12

he could always rely on, his mom.

29:14

Between the hours of 1.15am and

29:16

2am, Nick called Jennifer eight to

29:19

10 times from the borrowed phone.

29:21

During these calls, he seemed confused

29:23

about his location, telling her he

29:25

was in St. Catherine's, when in

29:27

fact, he was in Thorold, eight

29:30

kilometers away. So mom started to

29:32

drive around. You know, she went down

29:34

by the school, there was no sign

29:37

of him. She drove by the boxing

29:39

club, no sign of them. And she

29:41

just figured that he had ended up

29:43

at another party. And when she couldn't

29:46

locate him... didn't hear back from him

29:48

anymore and couldn't call the number, she

29:50

went home. She thought, oh, he ended

29:52

up somewhere else, he doesn't need me

29:55

to pick him up. I'm going home.

29:57

Jennifer later shared additional details.

29:59

in another post. Quote, he

30:01

forgot his cell phone at his

30:03

friend's house prior to going to

30:06

the Moose and Goose that night.

30:08

Either Nick borrowed his friend's phone

30:10

or just took it to use

30:12

while he stepped out of the

30:15

Moose and Goose at 1.15 AM

30:17

to call me to transfer him

30:19

$50. He obviously did not know

30:22

he would not be permitted back

30:24

into the bar. So there he

30:26

is, outside with his friend's phone.

30:28

The police tell me through the

30:31

pings of the friends borrowed phone

30:33

that Nicholas never left the immediate

30:35

area before the phone died. The

30:37

last ping was around the area

30:40

of Sullivan and Pine Street. Police

30:42

say that Nicholas never walked down

30:44

Pine Street. So phone data from

30:46

the cell carrier. confirmed that around

30:49

2 AM on March 17th, 2022,

30:51

the phone pinged from near the

30:53

intersection of Sullivan and Pine Street

30:55

in Thorold, Ontario. It should be

30:58

noted that the borrowed phone from

31:00

Nick's best friend has never been

31:02

found. However, data from the cell

31:04

carrier indicates that the phone never

31:07

traveled beyond that intersection, approximately a

31:09

three-minute walk from the moose and

31:11

goose, before the phone either died

31:13

or was turned off. At least

31:16

one of Nick's friends reportedly knew

31:18

that he was not allowed back

31:20

into the bar. According to Jennifer,

31:22

Nick remained near the area of

31:25

the bar for at least 45

31:27

minutes. In another post, Jennifer wrote

31:29

the following. Quote, at least one

31:32

of his buddies knew that Nick

31:34

was not allowed back in the

31:36

bar. The bouncer told them and

31:38

said Nick would be waiting outside.

31:41

Based on the call logs, Nick

31:43

stayed around the area for 45

31:45

minutes, where he went after that

31:47

is unknown. No one else has

31:50

come forward saying they saw him.

31:52

He called me at 114, 146,

31:54

150, and 157. So after driving

31:56

around and searching for Nick without

31:59

success, Jennifer eventually had to go

32:01

home as she had to work

32:03

in the morning and Nick's father

32:05

was away on a work trip.

32:08

So Nick has not been seen

32:10

since leaving the bar that night,

32:12

despite reportedly being outside of the

32:14

busy bar for at least 45

32:17

minutes. No witnesses have come forward

32:19

to say that they saw him

32:21

walking around or leaving the bar.

32:23

We should also add a quick

32:26

word about the weather. That night,

32:28

there were loads of minus one.

32:30

with a light mist overnight and

32:32

into the morning in the Niagara

32:35

region. So it would be cold

32:37

and damp, and Nick was not

32:39

wearing a jacket. So as you

32:42

can see, the timeline remains fragmented

32:44

and unclear. The following was reported

32:46

in Thorald Today by reporter Ludvig

32:48

Dreadfial on April 5th, 2022. So

32:51

this was less than a month

32:53

after Nick went missing. Quote, during

32:55

the course of the night at

32:57

around 1 a.m. Adamson walked outside

33:00

with a borrowed cell phone to

33:02

call his mother to ask if

33:04

she could e-transfer some money for

33:06

a few more drinks. On his

33:09

way back inside, his brother, Jordan

33:11

Adamson, said, he was turned back

33:13

at the door due to his

33:15

level of intoxication. So my mom

33:18

went out to look for him,

33:20

but could not find him, but

33:22

could not find him, but could

33:24

not find him. We don't know

33:27

where he went. Despite driving around

33:29

the area of the boxing club

33:31

located roughly eight kilometers from the

33:33

moose and goose on Niagara Street,

33:36

she could not find her son.

33:38

The family believes he might not

33:40

have been where he thought he

33:42

was, as the phone he was

33:45

borrowing was last pinged off a

33:47

Thorold cell tower. Maybe he didn't

33:49

realize where he was, and thought

33:51

he was a lot closer to

33:54

the house than he was, Jordan

33:56

said. He sounded drunk, but we

33:58

have no reason to believe there

34:01

was anything else affecting him. The

34:03

family hasn't received any indication that

34:05

something was off during the night

34:07

from the people he was around

34:10

either. So Nick did not return

34:12

home on the morning of March

34:14

17th. Then again on March 18th,

34:16

he still was not home. This

34:19

was obviously concerning for his family

34:21

as Nick was home body. Eventually

34:23

they reached out to the Niagara

34:25

Regional Police Service to report Nick

34:28

as a missing person. What followed

34:30

was again a series of noteworthy

34:32

events. And it wasn't until March

34:34

18th, where one of Nick's brothers

34:37

texted the mom and said, hey,

34:39

we can't find Nick. And I

34:41

want to call the police. And

34:43

I want to open a police

34:46

report. And he said, have you

34:48

seen Nick? And mom said, well,

34:50

I was in the kitchen before

34:52

I left and I didn't see

34:55

him then and I didn't hear

34:57

him come in. And she shared

34:59

what happened the night before. And

35:01

that's when everything sort of broke

35:04

open. So the brother. contacted Niagara

35:06

Police and opened a missing person's

35:08

case. The police said that they

35:11

needed to come out and interview

35:13

them. So the police came out

35:15

and interviewed mom and the brother

35:17

at the house the next day.

35:20

And at that point a police

35:22

report was open. And mom said

35:24

that's when she realized something was

35:26

wrong. It was that next day.

35:29

which would have been about the

35:31

19th as far as mom's recollection.

35:33

The friend, a different friend of

35:35

Nick's, the girl who'd been a

35:38

best friend of his for a

35:40

long time, she went over to

35:42

the best friend's house, got Nick's

35:44

car and brought it home to

35:47

Mom. So they parked the car

35:49

in the driveway and... It sat

35:51

there for quite a while while

35:53

while the missing person's case opened.

35:56

Meanwhile, the Niagara Police did some

35:58

interviews with family and then... at

36:00

least two media notifications informing the

36:02

public that Nick Adamson was missing.

36:05

The family knew that they had

36:07

to jump into action, so they

36:09

retraced Nick's last steps. This included

36:11

going to the Moose and Goose

36:14

and searching along the Wellen Canal.

36:16

Mom, of course, alerted the whole

36:18

family, even family that lived out

36:20

of town, that possibly Nick was

36:23

missing, and the brothers, they all

36:25

came together. and they performed their

36:27

own search. So the brothers ran

36:30

the whole canal searching along because

36:32

the Moose and Goose is only

36:34

about three blocks away from Lock

36:36

7 at the Wellen Canal. And

36:39

the family walked that route. They

36:41

went to the 7-Eleven that was

36:43

behind the Moose and Goose. Do

36:45

you have any video surveillance? No,

36:48

we don't have anything on our

36:50

surveillance. The Moose and Goose released

36:52

their video surveillance to the police,

36:54

but have not shared with the

36:57

family what is on that video

36:59

surveillance. So the Moose and Goose

37:01

handed over their security footage to

37:03

the investigators, and Niagara Police did

37:06

release two screenshots from the CCTV

37:08

footage on the night that he

37:10

went missing. One picture shows Nick

37:12

from the front and above. He

37:15

is wearing a white short-sleeve button

37:17

down that is open. The other

37:19

shot is from behind and Nick

37:21

is walking away with his hands

37:24

appearing to reach for his back

37:26

pockets. In the photo of Nick

37:28

from the front, he does not

37:30

appear to have any bruises or

37:33

signs of having had a fight.

37:35

We have not spoken with Niagara

37:37

Regional Police, but what we do

37:40

know is that they are not

37:42

publicly calling Nick's disappearance foul play

37:44

or suspicious in nature. The theory

37:46

that they seem to be going

37:49

with is either self-harm or a

37:51

case of misadventure. So in discussions

37:53

with Niagara Police, which have been

37:55

few and far between, and we'll

37:58

talk a little bit about that,

38:00

their leading theory at the time

38:02

of my last communication was that

38:04

Nick probably ran into some misadventure.

38:07

Now whether that means he took

38:09

his own life or he was

38:11

walking and fell down a hill

38:13

and it's just a matter of

38:16

recovering his remains, they believe it

38:18

was misadventure. So there was never

38:20

a need for them to pursue

38:22

any other avenue that could fit

38:25

into the pyramid of theories essentially.

38:27

So we of course will keep

38:29

that as a working theory. We

38:31

are now going to go through

38:34

what we know of the searches

38:36

that have been conducted and learn

38:38

how Please Bring Me Home became

38:40

involved with this case. He went

38:43

missing in March of 2022 and

38:45

Please Bring Me Home was contacted

38:47

April 25th of 2022. We were

38:49

told by the family that The

38:52

police did very little at the

38:54

beginning. Now when I spoke with

38:56

Niagara Police, they said that they

38:59

had done definite combing of the

39:01

area. They did combing along the

39:03

canal and there is a lake

39:05

there. It's called Gibson Lake and

39:08

it is famous for bodies to

39:10

be dumped in that area. There

39:12

are no boats allowed on that

39:14

lake. and the only people that

39:17

can go on are police, but

39:19

there have been bodies found there.

39:21

And the police confirmed that they

39:23

dredged the lake and did not

39:26

find, of course, a body in

39:28

that lake. So Kerry was able

39:30

to confirm that Niagara Police had

39:32

searched the nearby Gibson Lake and

39:35

combed along the well and canal.

39:37

Kerry and police bring me home

39:39

brought in a canine team that

39:41

used the moose and goose as

39:44

a starting point. The dogs followed

39:46

a sent to the well and

39:48

canal, specifically lock seven. Now lock

39:50

7 is an 11 minute walk

39:53

from the moose and goose and

39:55

the opposite direction from Pine and

39:57

Sullivan where the borrowed phone was

39:59

last pinged. So for those that are

40:02

unaware, the Welling Canal is an

40:04

important part of the St. Lawrence

40:06

seaway system that brings goods from

40:08

all over Canada to international markets

40:10

by ship. The Welling Canal connects Lake

40:12

Ontario to Lake Erie and allows ships

40:15

to bypass Niagara Falls, which of course

40:17

they wouldn't be able to get a

40:19

ship up or down. So the Welling Canal has

40:21

eight locks in total. and these locks

40:23

are essential for raising and

40:26

lowering ships to navigate the

40:28

99.5 meter elevation between Lake

40:30

Ontario and Lake Erie. Now locks

40:32

1 to 7 are located between

40:34

Port Weller and Thorold handling most

40:36

of the elevation gain and there

40:38

is another lock lock 8 that

40:40

is near Port Colburn which is on

40:42

Lake Erie. The canal actually closes

40:44

seasonally due to ice and

40:47

maintenance. Now, the canal closed late

40:49

winter of 2021 on December

40:51

26th, and then it reopened

40:53

on March 24th, 2022, so seven

40:56

days after Nick went missing. So

40:58

this means that seven days

41:00

after Nick went missing, large ships

41:03

would have been making their way

41:05

through the canal, with the large

41:07

ship-sized locks filling and emptying

41:09

as Lakers make their way

41:11

up and down the canal.

41:14

Now from what we understand...

41:16

Lock 7 was full of water on

41:18

the night that Nick disappeared and

41:20

no ships went through Lock

41:23

7 until March 24th at

41:25

the earliest. Kerry describes

41:27

the difficulties that the

41:29

canal poses as well as

41:31

the other searches performed by

41:34

Please Bring Me Home. We

41:36

brought in an Ontario canine

41:38

team and ran the canines

41:40

from Moose and Goose. and

41:42

followed the scent. Now the

41:44

canines led us towards Wellen

41:46

Canal and essentially Lock 7,

41:48

but when we got to

41:50

Lock 7, the scent was

41:52

lost. Now we have searched

41:54

that area in its entirety

41:56

and at the time that

41:58

he went missing, lock, sick,

42:00

the lock seven was full,

42:02

but the other locks from

42:04

lock seven to Lake Ontario

42:06

were empty. And they were

42:08

just starting to open the

42:10

canal again, but at the

42:12

time the hill missing, it

42:14

was empty. I contacted the

42:16

governing body over the well

42:18

and canal and they gave

42:20

information as to if a

42:22

body is found there, what

42:25

their course of action would

42:27

be. But some of the.

42:29

canals in the size of

42:31

ship that go through that

42:33

leave simply a few inches

42:35

between the ship and the

42:37

wall of the canal and

42:39

they said if a body

42:41

is there it would be

42:43

really not much left after

42:45

the ship went through it.

42:47

So you know we were

42:49

happy that only seven was

42:51

open at that time or

42:53

filled the rest weren't. So

42:55

we were content with that

42:57

because no ships had gone

42:59

through and hopefully would receive

43:01

some evidence. So did a

43:03

shoe float? Did something come

43:05

to the surface during that

43:07

time? If he went in

43:09

there, the water would have

43:11

been quite cold, but it

43:13

warmed up quickly in April.

43:15

So we had canine searches.

43:17

We went out in groups.

43:19

We had one group of

43:21

34 people that went out

43:23

to search in total. Please

43:25

bring me home conducted seven

43:27

searches in the thorough Gibson

43:29

Lake and Lake Ontario beaches

43:31

to see if we could

43:33

find anything and we've come

43:35

up with absolutely nothing through

43:37

those searches. So this area

43:39

of Ontario is very difficult

43:41

to search. There are several

43:43

small lakes, there's the Welling

43:45

Canal, there's Niagara Falls and

43:47

the Mighty Niagara River, and

43:49

there's also Lake Ontario. Add

43:51

to this, there are several

43:53

cities clustered together and outlying

43:55

farmlands. It is in short...

43:57

a difficult search area, especially

43:59

when your starting point is

44:01

a CCTV screenshot from 2am.

44:03

When Please Bring Me Home

44:05

took on Nick's case, they

44:07

set up their tip line.

44:09

Kerry ran into something that

44:11

she had not seen before

44:13

with the tip line. What

44:15

has happened with that though

44:17

is the need to interview

44:19

further. And you know, some

44:21

cases, soon as we get

44:24

them, we post them, we'll

44:26

do a media splash on

44:28

them. We get tips in,

44:30

we get, I think I

44:32

might have, or I saw

44:34

him that night and this

44:36

was off, or it's been

44:38

fascinated with the next case,

44:40

we get zero tips. It

44:42

is radio silence on this

44:44

case, which in the absence

44:46

of clues, that's a clue

44:48

itself. So... We have continued

44:50

to interview to probe. We

44:52

have done a lot of

44:54

media on this with local

44:56

newspapers. The St. Catherine's standard

44:58

has been phenomenal. They have

45:00

a journalist there, Matthew Barker,

45:02

who has been relentless in

45:04

covering this story. And he

45:06

has aided us tremendously. So

45:08

receiving zero tips after significant

45:10

media coverage can mean several

45:12

things, it could suggest that

45:14

no one has any relevant

45:16

information. Alternatively, if foul play

45:18

is involved, it might indicate

45:20

that only a small circle

45:22

of people know the truth.

45:24

Lastly, it could suggest that

45:26

those with information are afraid

45:28

to come forward. Nick's phone

45:30

was eventually returned to his

45:32

mother by his best friend.

45:34

Police examined the device and

45:36

concluded that there was no

45:38

evidence of significance on it.

45:40

However, Kerry, who has since

45:42

reviewed the phone contents herself,

45:44

disagrees with that conclusion. While

45:46

we have not independently reviewed

45:48

the contents of Nick's phone,

45:50

Kerry has observed images and

45:52

text messages from within three

45:54

months of Nick's disappearance that

45:56

suggest Nicholas may have been

45:58

experiencing bullying. Now, with regards

46:00

to the best friend's phone,

46:02

Jennifer, Nick's mom, posted the

46:04

following to the Nicholas Adamson

46:06

Facebook group last year. Nick's

46:08

friend did surrender the call

46:10

logs from his phone for

46:12

that evening. The police tell

46:14

me that Nick called me

46:16

several times and also called

46:18

his own cell phone. No

46:20

other calls were made. Based

46:23

on the pings of that

46:25

phone, it is determined that

46:27

at around 2am on March

46:29

17th, 2022, the call was

46:31

made near Sullivan and Pine

46:33

Street. I will never understand

46:35

why Nick told me to

46:37

pick him up at the

46:39

boxing club. Since the calls

46:41

had no caller ID, I

46:43

couldn't call him back. I

46:45

called his own cell phone

46:47

and texted him, but did

46:49

not get an answer. We

46:51

miss him, love him, and

46:53

wish we could find him.

47:14

Ryan Reynolds here for Mint

47:16

Mobile. The message for everyone

47:19

paying big wireless way too

47:21

much. Please for the love

47:23

of everything good in this

47:25

world, stop. With Mint you

47:27

can get premium wireless for

47:29

just $15 a month. Of course

47:31

if you enjoy overpaying, no

47:34

judgments, but that's joy

47:36

overpaying. No judgments, but

47:38

that's weird. Okay, one

47:40

judgment. Anyway, give it

47:42

a try at mintmobile.com,

50:01

Another theory suggests that a witness

50:03

may have seen Nick get into a

50:05

car. If he did get into a car,

50:08

who was he with and where was he

50:10

going so late at night? According to

50:12

some accounts, there is speculation that

50:14

Nick may have obtained drugs earlier

50:17

that day for someone else. Given

50:19

that Nick was not in a strong

50:21

financial position at the time, some

50:23

have questioned whether this could have

50:26

led to a debt. This raises the

50:28

possibility. though unconfirmed, that someone

50:30

may have taken him somewhere

50:33

that night in connection to

50:35

a debt. I will not allege that

50:37

anyone did anything until I have

50:39

the evidence to support it. And

50:42

we don't have the evidence to

50:44

support it. But we do know

50:46

that Nick didn't have money, that

50:49

he was pressured to obtain drugs,

50:51

and he wanted to deliver those

50:53

to individuals. Did that leave him

50:56

with a debt? We don't know.

50:58

But it is a possibility that we

51:00

want to keep at the forefront. If

51:02

Nick owed money, the question becomes who would

51:04

he have owed it to? There is some

51:06

evidence suggesting that Nick may

51:08

have visited a property linked

51:10

to drug activity in the area. In

51:13

the Niagara region, it appears that

51:15

some drug dealers have been using

51:17

old farms as fronts for their

51:19

drug operations. If this theory

51:21

holds, then it is believed that the

51:23

farm that Nick visited was located on

51:25

Reed Road. An online search of Reed

51:28

Road. shows that the police executed a

51:30

search warrant on the property in March

51:32

of 2024. This led to eight individuals

51:35

being arrested and charged. The

51:37

police seized 188 grams of fentanyl

51:39

and many quantities of other

51:41

drugs. Is it possible that Nick went

51:43

to the farm earlier that day and

51:46

then someone brought him back to the

51:48

farm after he left the bar that

51:50

night? There is a witness who has

51:52

come forward to state just that, and

51:54

there is also GPS data that

51:56

supports this theory. Mom initially

51:59

thought that can't be

52:01

happened. Like my son does

52:03

not have that drug connection.

52:05

My son would not do

52:07

something like that. However, through

52:09

investigation on Nick's phone and

52:11

being able to see places

52:13

he would have done, so

52:15

his GPS history has shown

52:17

that he has been at

52:19

these farms. So he has

52:21

had attendance and possibly ran

52:23

into some issues there. We

52:25

have no evidence to support

52:27

it. We did have one

52:29

individual come forward who said

52:31

that she knows for a

52:33

fact Nick was at the

52:35

farm that night and that

52:37

did succumb to a crime.

52:39

However, she is not willing

52:41

to make a statement or

52:43

to engage with police. Kerry

52:45

believes that they read Road

52:47

theory is plausible and handed

52:49

over what she knew. to

52:51

Niagara Regional Police. We provided

52:53

the information to Niagara Police

52:55

and within two months of

52:57

that that farm was raided.

52:59

Investigators did have an opportunity

53:01

to run ground penetrating radar

53:03

on the farm but it

53:05

did not yield any results.

53:07

Earlier in the episode we

53:09

stated that the Niagara Regional

53:11

Police had suggested that their

53:13

working theory is that Nick

53:15

disappeared due to misadventure or

53:17

that he had harmed himself.

53:19

Nick's family have objected to

53:21

both of these theories and

53:23

implied that Niagara Regional Police

53:25

Service may have tunnel vision

53:27

in this file. The following

53:29

comes from an article by

53:31

reporter Matthew P. Barker. The

53:33

Adamson's dispute the theory he

53:35

would have harmed himself or

53:37

become a victim of misadventure

53:39

as police have suggested. Quote,

53:41

we believe there police, not

53:43

even looking at other alternatives,

53:45

said Bill, referring to the

53:47

police efforts to find his

53:49

son. We miss him and

53:51

we think of him every

53:54

single minute of every single

53:56

day," said his mom. Frustrated,

53:58

the Adamson said, They have

54:00

heard several theories about what

54:02

happened to Nicholas that night,

54:04

referring to him having been

54:06

in a fight or getting

54:08

into a car and being

54:10

taken to another location. They

54:12

do believe him going missing

54:14

was not of his own

54:16

doing. In a day and

54:18

age when there is a

54:20

camera on every corner at

54:22

every business, Bill wonders how

54:24

his son could disappear without

54:26

a trace. Private investigators from

54:28

the charitable not-for-profit organization, Please

54:30

Bring Me Home, have been

54:32

working with the Adamsons to

54:34

leave No Stone unturned in

54:36

their search for Nicholas. Quote,

54:38

from what I'm getting from

54:40

the investigation team is they've

54:42

received a great deal of

54:44

information which has been given

54:46

to Niagara Regional Police Service.

54:48

Information, they believe, needs to

54:50

be corroborated and investigated, says

54:52

please bring me home executive

54:54

director and co-founder Nick Oldrieve.

54:56

Oldrieve believes a breakdown of

54:58

communication exists, not only with

55:00

police and the family, but

55:02

with private investigators working closely

55:04

with the Adamson family. Quote,

55:06

some police agencies seem opinionated

55:08

on how we get our

55:10

information, and dependent on how

55:12

we get that information, may

55:14

decide, well, we're not going

55:16

to go out and get

55:18

that individual. Even though this

55:20

individual has said, I'm willing

55:22

to come forward, just have

55:24

them reach out to me.

55:26

Nick Oldrieve from Please Bring

55:28

Me Home goes on to

55:30

say, the information received is

55:32

second-party information, which all points

55:34

to the same individuals, areas

55:36

of interest, Nicholas's potential whereabouts,

55:38

and even what happened to

55:40

Nicholas. Oldrieve said leads and

55:42

tips Please Bring Me Home

55:44

has received are not one-offs,

55:46

but significant and from multiple

55:48

sources. Quote, there is enough

55:50

of a concern to warrant

55:52

next steps. This is half

55:54

a dozen minimum individuals. If

55:56

there are differences in the

55:58

stories, they're very minimal. But

56:00

the people's names and areas

56:02

of interest are remaining the

56:04

same. Niagara Regional Police did

56:06

respond in the article stating,

56:08

our detectives have met with

56:10

the independent investigators and reviewed

56:13

their information. The information did

56:15

not develop any new investigative

56:17

leads. The investigation remains open

56:19

and ongoing as police continue

56:21

to appeal to the public

56:23

for any information. Adding, it

56:25

has been a lengthy and

56:27

difficult investigation, we certainly understand

56:29

and sympathize with his family

56:31

in the pain of not

56:33

knowing where Nicholas is. Of

56:35

course, Kerry and Please Bring

56:37

Me Home have looked into

56:39

the suicide theory. And while

56:41

they keep an open mind

56:43

to that very serious reality,

56:45

It is not currently their

56:47

working theory. We know he

56:49

was doing some minimal drugs.

56:51

We know that can affect

56:53

the way that we view

56:55

life. So did Nick take

56:57

his life? There's a possibility.

56:59

Is it a strong theory?

57:01

Absolutely not. With so many

57:03

theories on the table and

57:05

so many blanks left to

57:07

be filled, we asked Kerry

57:09

how our listeners could help.

57:11

It takes the community that

57:13

cares beyond their own four

57:15

walls of their home to

57:17

create conversation, to have the

57:19

courage to speak up, to

57:21

know that this has affected

57:23

a son and a brother

57:25

and a lovely human. And

57:27

you don't want to sit

57:29

aside. with knowledge, knowing that

57:31

this family can't rest, knowing

57:33

that their son won't be

57:35

coming home. So we have

57:37

to talk about it. We

57:39

need information. We need information

57:41

that is vital. Something that

57:43

you think is little or

57:45

minor, please share it. We

57:47

appreciate that. You can contact,

57:49

please bring me home. Our

57:51

website is available and it

57:53

has links there where you

57:55

can send a tip anonymously.

57:57

a phone number that I

57:59

can call directly, I will

58:01

do that. If you believe

58:03

the tip is vital, I

58:05

would be so grateful if

58:07

you would contact us and

58:09

allow us to reach out

58:11

to you. Even if you

58:13

say, put on your social

58:15

media's a phone number that

58:17

I can call directly, I

58:19

will do that. We find

58:21

many times we were able

58:23

to talk to people more

58:25

in depth. If individuals in

58:27

talking with them ask to

58:29

remain anonymous, we will absolutely

58:32

honor that. So contact, please

58:34

bring me home. Contact Niagara

58:36

Police. He is on missing

58:38

person active with Niagara Police.

58:40

Have your voice, make your

58:42

say. So many times individuals

58:44

contact us and say, I

58:46

need you to help us

58:48

find my son or I

58:50

need you to help us

58:52

find someone. And once we

58:54

find them or once we

58:56

get to them, they said,

58:58

I never knew I'd ever

59:00

have to call you. And

59:02

now that I do, I

59:04

want to help. Well, help

59:06

us now. Help us find

59:08

these people. Don't wait till

59:10

someone goes missing in your

59:12

family or one of your

59:14

loved ones. Help us stop

59:16

this pandemic of missing persons

59:18

in Canada. The

59:22

impact of having a missing loved

59:24

one is often described as ambiguous

59:26

loss, when someone is emotionally present

59:29

but physically absent, leaving families with

59:31

unanswered questions. For the Adamson family,

59:34

this has been compounded by intense

59:36

grief. From Nick's loving parents to

59:38

his brothers, the pain of not

59:41

knowing where he is and hearing

59:43

distressing theories has deeply affected them.

59:45

They feel Nick's absence every single

59:48

day. Kerry shared more. about how

59:50

the family is coping today. You

59:53

know, mom shared with me not

59:55

too long ago that his one

59:57

brother, she was talking with him

1:00:00

and he just saw him. just

1:00:02

keep saying I don't know what

1:00:05

it could be. Both boys are.

1:00:07

You know, they have come out

1:00:09

and searches with us and they're

1:00:12

devastated by the loss of their

1:00:14

brother and mom and dad are

1:00:16

strong. You know, mom just keep

1:00:19

saying I don't know what it

1:00:21

could be. I don't know where

1:00:24

he would go. I don't, none

1:00:26

of this makes any sense. It's

1:00:28

incredible that they've been able to

1:00:31

stay strong and stay consistent and

1:00:33

I honor them for that as

1:00:36

a family. But they keep asking

1:00:38

for people to come forward and

1:00:40

share what they do know and

1:00:43

talk to the police if you

1:00:45

want to if you're comfortable with

1:00:47

that. And mom just begs that.

1:00:50

Mom and dad are begging for

1:00:52

help from Niagara Police. Mom sent

1:00:55

an email on September 23rd to

1:00:57

the detective and still hasn't heard

1:00:59

back. Mom contacts them and doesn't

1:01:02

get any information. Mom asks about

1:01:04

the investigation and they have nothing

1:01:06

new to share. And we understand

1:01:09

that, but we also understand victims.

1:01:11

and they deserve to be heard

1:01:14

and deserve to know, deserve to

1:01:16

have transparency as much as they

1:01:18

can as a family, to know

1:01:21

that Niagara Police are making this

1:01:23

an important investigation. On the evening

1:01:26

of March 16th, 2022, Nicholas Adamson

1:01:28

went out with friends. Sometime after

1:01:30

midnight, he was seen outside the

1:01:33

Moose and Goose Bar and for

1:01:35

reasons still unclear was unable to

1:01:37

get back in. Nick reached out

1:01:40

to the one person he knew

1:01:42

he could rely on, his mother,

1:01:45

Jennifer, but despite her efforts, she

1:01:47

could not find him. What happened

1:01:49

next remains unclear. Some accounts suggest

1:01:52

an altercation, while others mention Nick

1:01:54

possibly getting into a vehicle. Police

1:01:57

currently believe he may have walked

1:01:59

off into the night. An independent

1:02:01

investigation by Please Bring Me Home

1:02:04

has raised further questions and brought

1:02:06

forward new information we think is

1:02:08
