1:07

back to Unashamed. We, uh, we've

1:09

been hanging out in, uh,

1:11

in John six here for a

1:13

while, Jason. No, I would,

1:15

uh, here's the, here's my description

1:17

of what's happened in the

1:20

last few podcasts. We've been in

1:22

a field spinning the wheels

1:24

because the field was muddy

1:26

and we were trying to remember that there

1:28

was a duck dynasty episode. We're

1:31

just trying to make it more muddy.

1:33

Is that what we're doing? It was

1:35

my favorite scene of all. Doug

1:37

Dines the episodes

1:40

Jason there's the headline for the

1:42

show Jason's favorite scene in

1:44

the history of Doug Dines Yeah,

1:46

that's a lot of scenes

1:48

favorite scene and I don't mean

1:50

how it came across on

1:52

TV because this is You're

1:54

doing it. Well, you enjoyed you enjoyed

1:56

filming this more than anything else

1:58

that you did. Yeah Cause

2:00

we were, we were having

2:02

some volatility with the production

2:04

crew and what to do.

2:06

And they were following us

2:08

and we were doing some

2:10

episode and Willie had this,

2:12

you know, he, he, he

2:14

has all his toys and

2:16

he thought this truck he

2:18

had was unstickable, which in

2:20

the redneck world, I'm not,

2:22

is that a word? Unstickable.

2:26

Yeah. Well, it is

2:28

in the redneck world. That means. this

2:30

thing will go through any mud and

2:32

we have gumbo. But

2:35

Willie was getting frustrated

2:37

because the TV people

2:39

were being difficult. And

2:42

he just decided because he knew the

2:44

guy that on his field, we were

2:46

driving around the interstate. They were doing

2:48

what they call, uh, what

2:50

do they call those things? Oh, uh,

2:52

when they're just, they're giving you

2:54

like, they're giving you like segue shots

2:56

where like you're driving on the

2:58

roads or whatever. Yeah b -roll like

3:00

the b -roll footage. Yeah, I think

3:02

they call it that and Willie just

3:05

He just I mean we were

3:07

going Right at or over the speed

3:09

limit He just takes a right

3:11

because all the cameras are following they

3:13

got drones and all this stuff.

3:15

Yeah He just pulls out in this

3:17

field and he was just gonna

3:19

do a donut out in the field

3:21

because he knew the guy Though

3:23

he thought he ain't gonna care. He's

3:26

like you want a scene? Do

3:28

this and it just became like

3:30

you know like the epic scene

3:32

in that episode But I mean

3:34

Willie just basically did it on

3:36

his he was just tired of

3:38

driving down the road and they're

3:40

like, you know We didn't get

3:42

that he just pulls off. Well,

3:44

he got stuck which I thought

3:46

was hilarious in his unstickable truck

3:48

Yeah, I mean that that's why

3:50

it was my favorite episode because

3:52

there's unstickable that became a sticker

3:54

a stuckable truck Yeah, I'm like,

3:56

you can't. You know, it's just

3:58

a toy that you have and

4:00

you don't you over. Well, everything

4:03

has its limits. And

4:05

he didn't realize that there was a limit on

4:07

what he could get into, which made him look

4:09

like an idiot, which is

4:11

what I really found funny. But

4:13

it became a funny episode that

4:16

really wasn't about what it was about.

4:18

Willie was frustrated with it. I'm

4:20

going to drive down the road over

4:22

and over. Yeah. He drives

4:24

out there. Somehow they put that

4:26

together with the whole episode and

4:28

it was just like, you

4:30

know, and then here I am

4:32

giving commentary on it. Cause I think

4:34

I said something along the lines

4:36

in my little bed. I was like,

4:38

when you, when you drive, when

4:41

you're driving down the road and you

4:43

see, you know, a vehicle stuck

4:45

out there, that's, that's what you call

4:47

freedom. Cause it was a freedom

4:49

moment for Willie. He's like, you want to

4:51

say something? I'll just do this. You know,

4:53

even though he thought he could conquer the

4:55

mud. It is funny how in the redneck

4:57

mind that that takes place. Cause I had

4:59

a, you may have been there to watch

5:01

it, Jase, but I had a moment like

5:04

that. We were in the woods. I had

5:06

taken my truck. We were, we had driven

5:08

down to where we launched the boat. on

5:10

our property and I was trying to turn

5:12

it around. I had my old, this is

5:14

my very first truck I ever had, but

5:16

it was an old truck and it was

5:18

Rick Fortenberry was riding with me and he's

5:20

on the passenger side, but I was trying

5:23

to turn it around in the woods, which

5:25

is not very, you know, it's as easy

5:27

as you think. And I got hung up

5:29

on, I got pinned in by

5:31

a tree, a little small sapling right

5:33

on the passenger door and I could

5:35

not get off of it. And so

5:37

instead of just like stopping and getting

5:40

out and us figuring out a way

5:42

to get it off that tree, I

5:44

just went full red there. I would

5:46

just hook, put it in reverse and

5:48

floor it and then go forward. What

5:50

was happening was I was trying to

5:52

get the power of the truck off

5:54

the tree and all I did was

5:57

was just cave in my passenger door.

5:59

And there's a man sitting there, Rick, you

6:02

know, our buddy, who then by the end

6:04

of this episode, because I got off that

6:06

tree, but it was like, oh, I'm getting

6:08

off this tree and everybody's laughing because I'm

6:10

like destroying my truck. And then

6:12

Rick winds up sitting next to me like

6:14

we're on a prom date. Like when

6:16

I when finally I get off that tree,

6:18

I'm like, you know, like a haze.

6:20

Like I have risen into this place in

6:23

my mind getting off that tree and

6:25

he's sitting right next to me looking at

6:27

me like, are you insane? And

6:31

at the moment I was I

6:33

had lost all Saturday and so I

6:36

had to go get old Toby

6:38

to our mechanic to beat it out

6:40

with a sledgehammer where I tore

6:42

my truck up. So I get it.

6:44

Well, I mean, I think I

6:46

might have said in that episode or

6:48

another episode that that's why you

6:50

see rednecks die in such strange ways.

6:53

Because if you challenge their manhood

6:55

or that they're always looking for

6:58

a story. And it's like,

7:00

you're like, how in the world?

7:02

What would he even be doing?

7:05

You know, I had this huge

7:07

argument with Missy about, uh,

7:09

we had a little man this,

7:12

this past weekend and I,

7:14

you know, I, she, she lets

7:16

me take the morning chill

7:18

cause she, she just loves to

7:20

sleep more than anything. And

7:22

it's okay. I'm an early riser.

7:25

And so I fix him bacon and

7:27

all that. So

7:29

I noticed while I'm cooking the bacon,

7:31

he's at my feet, you know,

7:33

the kid's three years old. And all

7:36

of a sudden he says, look

7:38

at this, you know, and I see

7:40

him like bending down and I'm

7:42

like, what, what could he be

7:44

seeing? Cause Missy had cleaned the house. She

7:46

always cleans the house the night before

7:48

cause this guy just wrecks the house and

7:50

she clean when he goes to bed,

7:52

she cleaned it. I'm like, what could he

7:54

be? We just woke up. What

7:56

could he be seeing? And

7:59

I look down, I peer over his

8:01

shoulder, he's bent down, and I am

8:03

not kidding. He is

8:05

touching the top of what

8:07

I would call a

8:09

tarantula. It was a

8:11

spider that was big

8:13

as a 50 cent piece.

8:17

And I thought, what are

8:19

you doing? I mean, the

8:21

last thing I would do if I

8:23

saw that big a spider is reach

8:25

down and touch him. He's three

8:27

years older than me. hate spiders. I

8:29

hate spiders. So I said, what are

8:31

you doing? And I kind of knocked

8:33

him back and just killed the spider.

8:35

And he's like, why'd you do

8:37

that? And

8:41

I was like, okay, look,

8:43

he wasn't poisonous, but Lulu

8:45

is terrified of spiders. And

8:48

we don't, our first instinct, I

8:50

thought there's a teaching moment that I

8:52

have to tell this three year old,

8:54

even though I thought, man. You are

8:56

very brave. So I said that. I

8:59

was like, you're bravery for

9:01

a three year old is awesome.

9:03

I was like, but in

9:05

our world, buddy, when

9:07

we see a snake or a

9:09

spider, our first impulse is

9:11

not to touch it because some

9:13

of them are dangerous. Of course,

9:15

he's looking at me like, because

9:17

then I realized we're reading all

9:19

these books that these yuppies came

9:21

out with. They have talking animals. You

9:24

know, I mean, everybody's a friendly,

9:27

friendly animal. And I actually turned off

9:29

a video that he wanted to

9:31

watch. He named it and I googled

9:33

it and I thought, okay, it's.

9:35

It was some little creature that was

9:37

an animal that's talking, you know,

9:39

and he's got friends and they're going

9:41

in the woods and like, oh,

9:43

I'm scared. I'm scared because he likes

9:45

that. He likes that. But at

9:48

the end, all the animals are friends,

9:50

but it's like a bear, a

9:52

lion, a snake. I'm like, these

9:54

animals aren't your friends. I was

9:56

like, this is junk. Do

9:59

not it. You need

10:01

to let him get on that Instagram

10:03

page. It's called Nature is Metal. I

10:05

do not let any kid under the

10:07

age of 18 get on any kind

10:09

of social media device. be healthy

10:11

though. This would give them a

10:13

healthy reverence for the natural world

10:15

of the animal kingdom. Because all

10:17

they do is they show pictures

10:20

and videos of what happens in

10:22

nature when animals get together. And

10:24

it is a brutal, it's a

10:26

brutal world out there. But that's

10:28

what I'm saying. So I like

10:30

the adventure spirit because story, our

10:32

greatest stories are when something crazy,

10:34

you know, we did something really

10:36

stupid or dangerous and survived. Yeah.

10:39

But, you know, There

10:41

is there there may be. I'm kidding.

10:43

By the way, yeah, I don't let

10:46

your kids get on Instagram. That was

10:48

a joke. I may have landed well,

10:50

but it was a joke. So

10:52

I agree with what Jay said. We

10:54

had a teaching moment, but Missy was more

10:56

mortified and why I let the spider

10:58

get into the house. I'm like, what are

11:01

you talking about? I didn't make this

11:03

spider get in the house. You

11:05

don't call one of your. Your

11:07

sprayers, you know what? One

11:10

of your sprayers. I'm like, well, how's

11:12

this my fault? I let it in here.

11:15

I mean, he could have been bitten by a

11:17

spider. You know, what'd you let him in here?

11:19

I am, you know, supposed to be the protector.

11:21

I was like, look, we had a teaching moment. I

11:24

did think it was cool. He's probably

11:26

one of the few three -year -olds, you know,

11:28

that when he sees a spider like,

11:30

oh, look, cool. Let me. And

11:32

what I found fascinating is that when he

11:34

touched that spider, that spider stopped. Which is

11:37

like, what are you doing touching me? It

11:39

didn't run off. You'd think it'd run off,

11:41

you know, but it's like, well, that's never

11:43

happened to that spider before. And he was

11:45

kind of trying to process it. And it

11:47

was the last thing he processed. And

11:51

I took him out. I

11:55

have to confess, I actually think

11:57

that I led Zach to our

11:59

new sponsor, Pure Talk, because he

12:01

thought he was dropping all these

12:03

calls and I was actually just

12:05

hanging up Well,

12:10

I mean, you may be right about

12:12

that, Jase. I did think I was

12:14

dropping calls and that was the initial

12:16

motivating factor along with, I will say, the

12:19

price. The price is incredible. You

12:21

get a great deal by switching to

13:11

13:15

13:17

13:20

13:22

Americans. So

13:26

I said all that

13:28

to say, uh, you

13:30

know, some, some things that

13:32

happen in a story are.

13:34

difficult to, you know, wrap

13:37

your head around. And

13:39

we've been in a field spending

13:41

our wills, which is why I

13:43

told that my favorite Duck Dynasty

13:45

moment. I feel like we've done

13:47

that in John 6. We just

13:50

we're having trouble moving on. I

13:52

mean, one of the episodes we

13:54

did before when we were just talking

13:56

about John 6 and like the

13:59

arguments that are all here for the

14:01

religious world. And every time

14:03

Zach would talk, it was making my

14:05

brain hurt. I mean, I

14:07

was just like, oh, so,

14:09

uh, I mean,

14:11

I want to get into John

14:14

six today and just read it and

14:16

kind of give our take. And

14:18

I think we're arguing about things we

14:20

shouldn't be arguing about, but because

14:22

they're very confusing. And so I actually

14:24

heard a joke I want to

14:26

share with the idea about this, whether

14:28

the father draws you or whether

14:30

Judas. was like predestined

14:32

to do this horrible

14:34

act so that God could

14:36

work, you know, something

14:38

good through it or I

14:40

mean, could he have

14:42

repented or it's kind of

14:44

the argument which I

14:46

had trouble framing. Zach,

14:49

I can't recall how

14:51

we frame that.

14:53

Is it God predestining

14:55

us or is

14:57

it us Choosing

15:00

God's path or is it a combination

15:02

of both? How does that work? Is

15:05

that how we framed it? I

15:07

think so. Yeah, so I

15:09

heard a good joke on this

15:11

the joke is How confusing that

15:13

is what to talk about all

15:15

right, you got the prerequisite for

15:17

the joke Matty's Said some of

15:20

my jokes failed a land. No,

15:22

what she said was Jase. Would

15:24

this joke be better than the

15:26

last one you told? That's the

15:28

way she framed it. Which means

15:30

the last one stopped. That's what

15:32

she said. Yeah. So here's the

15:34

joke. So you have a guy

15:36

who, who believe, I hate to

15:38

characterize, uh, you know, somebody

15:40

like this, but this guy, he believes

15:42

in like predestination in a way

15:44

where it's just all determined on, you

15:47

know, who's in and who's out. And

15:49

we'll leave it there So

15:52

we'll leave it at that

15:54

so he he dies and

15:56

he He's standing for God

15:58

and he looks up and

16:00

there's two lines And there's

16:02

like an angel at the

16:04

head of each line and

16:07

one of them has a

16:09

sign says predestination and the

16:11

other has free choice So

16:13

he's like huh, so he's

16:15

baffled that oh Both

16:18

groups are here, but since this was

16:20

the main thrust of what I believed

16:22

he got into the predestination line So

16:24

he gets a line he gets up

16:26

to the angel and angels says no

16:28

What are you doing in this line?

16:31

He's like well. This is the one

16:33

I chose and The angel said well

16:35

you need to go to the other

16:37

line. That's the free choice line so

16:39

he Goes over to the free choice

16:41

line and he gets up there and

16:44

the angel says well What are you

16:46

doing here? And he said, well, the

16:48

other angel told me to get here.

16:50

But you need to go back to

16:52

the predestination line. That

16:55

is the joke. Again,

17:01

I think it is the confusion.

17:04

I don't know. I feel like it

17:06

was an epic fail again. That's

17:10

not funny to you. It

17:13

was he's good. I'm not saying

17:15

it's not funny. I think you're I

17:17

think the issue we're having with

17:19

you is your delivery. I thought that

17:21

was hilarious. Not, but just the

17:23

delivery. You got to hit the last

17:25

part. What's your I can

17:27

tell you what you're doing. But he's like, well,

17:29

he told me to come over and like, no, I

17:31

think it's funny. I think it's funny. I chose

17:33

this one. What was it? You

17:36

don't get it. I heard that. I

17:38

laughed and I told it pretty much the

17:40

exact way I heard it. Well,

17:43

what you're doing is on

17:45

your joke telling, I think

17:47

we're not expecting what you

17:49

say to be the punchline

17:51

because your tone doesn't convey

17:53

that this is the punchline.

17:56

It conveys that you're just going

17:58

through the story further. But

18:00

the guy that was the butt

18:02

of the joke was confused.

18:04

That's why the punchline should be

18:06

confusing. Did you think it

18:08

was funny now? I

18:10

thought it was funny that it wasn't funny.

18:13

That's I laugh. It's the same reason

18:15

why I used to laugh at dad on

18:17

the show because he would say thanks

18:19

and then just be deadpan. And

18:21

that was funny, but it wasn't

18:23

like what he's. Yes, that's where

18:25

the point is. OK, since I

18:27

laid that foundation as we read,

18:29

I think we'll. Kind of address

18:31

that maybe we're missing something maybe

18:33

we're arguing from the wrong perspective

18:35

So I say let's go through

18:37

John six Where did we leave

18:39

off after the walking on the

18:42

water, I mean it's been we're

18:44

spending our will so well, we

18:46

let we actually left off the

18:48

last time we were in this

18:50

text around verse 41. But if

18:52

you want to start in verse

18:54

25 so we can get that

18:56

whole context, then we can pick

18:58

it up from there. Because we

19:00

got down to that point about

19:02

where he quotes Isaiah 54 and

19:04

verse 45. That's where I wanted

19:06

to get. Yeah, that's where I

19:08

wanted to get. So

19:11

he feeds the 5 ,000

19:13

with two fish and

19:15

five loaves, which

19:17

is not possible unless you're

19:19

God or have God's

19:21

intervention. Then he walks on the

19:23

water. it. He did it, Jay. He's knowing,

19:25

cause he remember you said he asked Phillip about

19:27

buying the bread. So he did it knowing

19:30

what he was going to do here. I mean,

19:32

it wasn't like it was just, Hey, watch

19:34

this. He had a point. So then we come

19:36

to 25 and they found him on the

19:38

other side of the lake. We talked about that.

19:40

Yep. He's, I tell you the truth. You're

19:42

looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs,

19:44

but because you ate the loaves and had

19:46

your fill. Do not work

19:48

for food that spoils, but for

19:50

food that endures. to eternal life, which

19:52

the Son of Man will give

19:54

you. Now, we didn't make

19:56

a point about this next sentence. Own

20:00

Him, the

20:02

Son of Man. God the

20:04

Father has placed His

20:06

seal of approval. Now,

20:09

when you hear the word seal

20:11

of approval, where do you immediately

20:13

go? Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit. Because

20:15

if you look that word up

20:17

and just drop a couple of

20:20

Verses off the top of

20:22

my head, Ephesians 1. Yep,

20:25

Ephesians 4. Yeah, Ephesians 4,

20:27

which is interesting because it

20:29

says, do not grieve

20:31

the Holy Spirit. I

20:33

think that's 430. Which you

20:35

have been sealed, that's

20:37

right. Oh, another controversial

20:39

argument. Grieves are pretty strong word.

20:41

It's the same grieve word that

20:44

she used in 1 Thessalonians 4.

20:46

I looked it up says we

20:48

don't grieve like the rest of

20:50

men who have no hope So

20:52

what's just everywhere we go? It's

20:54

an art. How can you grieve

20:56

the Holy Spirit? I thought we

20:58

were We had the Holy Spirit

21:00

So I don't want to open

21:02

up another argument, but I will

21:04

address that later. So Ephesians 1

21:06

says 13 13 says,

21:08

and you were also included

21:10

in Christ when you heard the

21:12

word of truth, the gospel

21:14

of your salvation, having believed you

21:16

were marching in with a

21:19

seal, the promised Holy

21:21

Spirit. Yeah. So now,

21:23

so do you think in John six,

21:25

we're talking about going back to

21:27

his baptism when he received God's spirit?

21:29

And he's remember when the voice

21:31

said, this is my son. Yeah, I

21:33

think that's who my love that.

21:35

I think that's it. By the way,

21:38

it's the same word that's used with

21:40

a Roman seal that was put

21:43

on the tomb. Exactly. So the idea

21:45

here is it's marked. It's marked

21:47

as something being official. And so that

21:49

was idea. I thought I was

21:51

doing this off the top of my

21:53

head, but I really wasn't. Isn't

21:55

it interesting that Ephesians 1 goes back

21:57

to this same argument I told

21:59

about the joke? It's in

22:02

the same vein because... And

22:04

here's where you bury the lead.

22:06

A lot of people read

22:08

Ephesians 113 and hang out there.

22:10

And they're like, we've been,

22:12

you've given the Holy Spirit as

22:15

a seal. It's a deposit

22:17

guaranteeing our inheritance. And so

22:19

people talk about what do we inherit, which

22:22

is cool. And we

22:24

do inherit everything God

22:26

has. That's good. So

22:28

that's awesome. But the

22:30

lead. is something that

22:32

he referenced in Ephesians

22:34

chapter one in verse

22:36

four, because he says,

22:40

where does it say he adopted

22:42

us as sons? Yeah,

22:44

verse, where is

22:46

verse four, I think. Yeah,

22:49

yeah. So look in verse

22:52

four, he chose us in

22:54

him before the creation of the

22:56

world. Now, where did he choose

22:58

us? In Christ the

23:00

same one who's now

23:02

talking in John 6 saying

23:04

Do not work for

23:06

food that spoils but for

23:08

food that endures to

23:10

eternal life, which the Son

23:12

of man will give

23:14

you own him God the

23:16

Father has placed his

23:18

seal of approval this guy

23:20

Jesus we were chosen

23:22

in him before the creation

23:25

of the world So

23:29

our good friends at PhD

23:31

weight loss approached us and

23:33

they needed a guinea pig

23:35

for a new diet plan

23:38

that they have and I

23:40

guess Jason Sack, I was

23:42

the fattest pig because I

23:44

got picked. Are you saying

23:46

the emphasis was on the word pig or guinea?

23:49

It could be either one. No,

23:52

that's not true. We actually found

23:54

PhD weight loss. I turned 60 this

23:56

year. Need to lose some weight.

23:58

No doubt about it, but mainly to

24:00

get healthier. And that's one of

24:02

the things I love about these guys. Dr.

24:04

Ashley Lucas is their founder. She has a

24:06

PhD, sports nutrition and chronic

24:08

disease. And that's allowed her to really

24:10

help people, but also explain the science.

24:12

Thousands of other people have had very

24:14

much success. The program teaches you not

24:16

only what to eat, but when to

24:18

eat. And it works on your relationship

24:20

with food and shows you how to

24:22

lose the weight for life, which we

24:25

love. If you're watching this on YouTube,

24:27

this is a picture of me at

24:29

the beginning, 14 weeks later. I am

24:31

45 pounds lighter. I've cut

24:33

my blood pressure medicine in half,

24:35

so I'm healthier as well. No

24:37

gimmicks, no pills, no shots, no

24:40

side effects, which is a

24:42

wonderful thing. I'm not eating

24:44

rabbit food. I'm not hungry on this

24:46

diet, which of course in the past

24:48

I have been hungry on many diets.

24:50

80 % of your weekly foods are

24:52

provided at no extra cost. So we

24:54

encourage you to give these guys a

24:57

shot. You need to get healthy. You

24:59

know you've been needing to get on

25:01

that diet. Now's the time to do

25:03

it. Join me on my weight loss

25:12

That's 864 -644 -1900.

25:14

Tell them Al sent

25:16

you. And

25:21

verse four says he chose us.

25:23

Well, who is us? Which

25:25

is a key little

25:27

word two letters Who's

25:29

he talking to here?

25:32

He's talking to the

25:34

Jewish nation Would

25:37

you agree? Zach

25:39

and John and John 6 no

25:41

in Ephesians 1 4 yes, you said

25:43

well How do you know that

25:45

Jase cuz look I'm gonna do a

25:47

little word game before I read

25:49

the rest of four He says he

25:52

chose us in him In

25:55

verse five, he says, he

25:57

predestined us to be adopted.

26:00

The question is, who is us? Find

26:02

another us in here. Let's

26:05

see, or we. Verse

26:08

11. Verse

26:11

12. Oh, verse nine. You

26:13

skipped one now. He made known

26:15

to us the mystery to

26:17

be put into effect. Let's see.

26:20

Verse 11, in him we

26:22

were chosen. We haven't been

26:24

predestined according to the plan. Verse

26:27

12. In order that

26:29

we, verse 12. Now,

26:31

13 is a shift. He

26:33

says, and you were also

26:35

included in Christ when you

26:37

heard the word of truth. You

26:40

were marked in him. You said, well, who's

26:42

you? I think it's

26:45

interesting that verse 11 of

26:47

chapter two kind of

26:49

defines that. He says 211,

26:51

therefore, remember that formerly

26:53

you who are Gentiles by

26:55

birth and called on

26:57

circumcision by those who call

26:59

themselves the circumcision. Who's

27:02

that group? The Jews. Remember

27:05

that at that time you were

27:07

separate from Christ, excluded

27:09

from citizenship in Israel. That's

27:11

a Jew, if you're a citizen

27:13

in Israel and foreigners to

27:15

the covenants of the promise without

27:17

hope and without God in

27:19

the world. But now in Christ,

27:22

you who were once far

27:24

away have been brought near

27:26

to the blood of Christ. And

27:29

here's the point I was

27:31

trying to make for he himself.

27:33

Verse 14 is our peace

27:35

is our peace. Who has made

27:37

the two one? Well, who's

27:39

the two Jew and Gentile? OK,

27:41

I think that's important because

27:44

he thought it was important. And

27:46

verse four. Yeah,

27:49

the last two words

27:51

says in love he predestined

27:53

us to be adopted

27:55

as his sons Through Jesus

27:57

Christ So and how

27:59

that was that sealed it

28:01

was with the promise

28:03

Holy Spirit in dwelling people

28:05

which he's fixing to

28:08

get into in more detail

28:10

in John 7 This

28:12

streams of living water that

28:14

they were later to

28:16

receive And ultimately, it

28:18

happens in John, what is

28:21

it? 20 when it says, he

28:23

breathed on them, think creation,

28:25

new creation, and they received God's

28:27

Spirit. So I thought that

28:29

was interesting. So then back to

28:31

John 6, verse 28. Then

28:35

they asked him, well, what must we do

28:37

to do the work God requires? Jesus answered, the

28:39

work of God is this, to believe in

28:41

the one he is sent, which

28:43

we touched on a little

28:45

bit is sounds easy. But

28:47

when you start thinking of

28:49

what Jesus is asking us

28:51

to believe, especially for them,

28:54

God became a man. He

28:56

and the father are one. And some of

28:58

the things he said, like, if you want

29:01

to follow me, you know, bring

29:03

your cross. Lose yourself. That's

29:05

a big point. Give up your family.

29:07

Yeah. When you get into the

29:09

debates on this, I think you have

29:11

to be careful. And this is

29:13

like, I like to like put little

29:15

roadblocks in the way of my

29:17

own debating skills and affinity to like

29:19

to debate. And one

29:22

of those is, okay, does

29:24

this debate ultimately lead me back

29:26

to the conversation about who is Christ?

29:28

You know, another good litmus test

29:31

is right here in these

29:33

two verses, verse 27 and 28.

29:35

If the debate is leading

29:37

you to Pit works against belief

29:39

or faith then that's probably not the

29:41

direction that you need to be going

29:43

because if you read the text here

29:45

Jesus does not separate the two because

29:47

he says do not work for the

29:49

food that perishes But for the food

29:51

that endures to eternal life. So yeah,

29:53

the idea here is he's not saying

29:55

don't work He just said don't work

29:57

for that work work for this work

29:59

for the food that endures to eternal

30:01

life which the Son of Man will

30:03

give you, for on him the Father

30:05

has set a seal. They said to

30:07

him, what must we do to be

30:09

doing the work of God? Yeah.

30:12

But then he didn't really answer

30:14

the question. Well, he does say

30:16

that. Well, but he says the

30:18

work of God. They

30:20

said, what must we do? And

30:23

he said, the work of God.

30:26

Is to believe in the one he

30:28

has said I think so with the

30:30

way out what but I think here's

30:32

where I think this has everything to

30:34

do with the Holy Spirit though is

30:36

that I actually think this solves the

30:38

this so -called dilemma if we go back

30:41

to what I said in the previous

30:43

podcast that that it is the Holy

30:45

Spirit who reveals everything to us about

30:47

who Christ is like you don't Discover

30:49

this on your own now that does

30:51

not mean in my opinion that you

30:53

can't reject the Holy Spirit I actually

30:55

think that's was that's what Christ calls

30:58

blasphemy you can blaspheme you can Speak

31:00

a word against the Son of man

31:02

and be forgiven in this age and

31:04

the one to come But if you

31:06

speak a word against the Holy Spirit

31:08

if you blaspheme the spirit because then

31:10

you can't be forgiven Well, why is

31:12

that? Because because the Holy Spirit is

31:15

the agent of God who reveals truth

31:17

to the believer and if I reject

31:19

the one who reveals the truth about

31:21

Jesus to me, I can't be saved

31:23

because I can't receive what has been

31:25

revealed. So I think what's

31:27

happening here is he's centering God

31:30

himself at the very central and

31:32

beginning and the originator of all

31:34

revelation about himself. It all comes

31:36

from God. We don't discover it.

31:38

We don't figure it out. God

31:40

reveals it to you. And then

31:43

you have a choice to say,

31:45

well, yeah. I'm going to believe

31:47

that. Well, I'm snickering at you

31:49

because I agree with everything you're

31:51

saying, but I think you're participating

31:54

in the argument. I

31:56

don't think so, because I think that we have

31:58

to see. But you said, is

32:00

it works or faith? And then you gave

32:02

something that I agree with. And I'm saying, I

32:05

think he was saying, you might ought to look at

32:07

Jesus as the Son of God. I think that was his

32:09

point. It's like, I am,

32:11

that they don't believe God could

32:13

become a human. We get

32:15

caught up in this phraseology about

32:17

the illustration about the bread

32:19

don't work for for and when

32:21

you're gonna see this when

32:23

we read Isaiah 54 and 55

32:25

So we're getting the cart

32:27

before the horse here, but I'm

32:29

just saying in this moment.

32:31

Well, what is the problem here?

32:34

They're they're looking like, you know, how'd

32:36

you get here? Because they can't they're

32:38

like you weren't on the boat before And,

32:41

of course, they don't know.

32:44

He just walked on water.

32:46

He's given you these... The

32:48

real argument here, if there

32:50

is one, is, is this

32:52

son of man actually God?

32:55

Is he God in human form?

32:57

Is all I'm saying. I

33:00

mean, you follow me?

33:02

Yeah. I

33:05

wasn't saying I disagree with you,

33:07

but I'm saying you can't help

33:09

not a point. The point he's

33:11

making here is not a point

33:13

on any of that. The point

33:15

he's making here is that Christ

33:17

became flesh, that Christ gave his

33:19

life for the... Oh, right. I'm

33:21

focusing on the last four words,

33:23

or five, when it says, in

33:26

the one who believed, in the

33:28

one he has sent. Which

33:30

is Ephesians 1 talking about all

33:32

this he chose us from the beginning

33:34

who where in the one He

33:36

has sent I'm seeing that but he

33:38

is making the point though, but

33:41

he is making the point Yeah, but

33:43

they're not getting it. They're not

33:45

getting it because because the point he's

33:47

making is that is that the

33:49

son of man will give you the

33:51

food that you need for eternal

33:53

life and then That's why it

33:55

makes sense when he gets down here and starts feeling like

33:57

Jesus being the bread of life. I am

33:59

the food. at the end,

34:02

they don't get it. That's

34:04

my point. You're like, well, here's what they

34:06

get. Here's what they're getting. No, they didn't get

34:08

it. That one on group wants to kill

34:10

him and the rest of them are wanting to leave him. And

34:13

that where he literally asked another question,

34:15

which is going to be on the

34:17

list. He's like, you don't want to

34:19

leave too, do you? But to Zach's

34:21

point, they do get it after he

34:23

leaves. They get it after he leaves,

34:25

which is when the Holy Spirit is

34:27

born. I'm saying, let's just stop before

34:29

we get into the faith versus works

34:31

and just let's all agree that he's

34:33

saying, look, I'm the one he sent.

34:36

Right. Yeah. And I, but, but if you

34:38

think about the flow of the gospel,

34:40

John, And we are getting ahead

34:42

of ourselves here, but I just bring up

34:44

the part about the Holy Spirit because

34:46

it will have profound implications because you started

34:48

either this podcast or previous one with

34:50

how do they not see it? How do

34:52

they not get it? How do they

34:54

not like all the stuff is written in

34:56

the Old Testament. How do they miss

34:58

it? Well, if you go back and read.

35:01

the story on the road to

35:03

Emmaus, like they couldn't see it

35:05

until he said, here, let me

35:07

open your eyes. And that's

35:09

true. You made that point last time. But

35:11

what I'm saying is in this verse,

35:13

he literally goes back to the verses. This

35:18

stat always gets me that there's over

35:20

a billion children in the world right now

35:22

who are growing up in spiritual darkness,

35:24

never having heard of the gospel of our

35:27

Lord Jesus Christ, but our friends at

35:29

the Tamara clubs are helping the gospel. reach

35:31

those children. Tamara Club started in Ukraine

35:33

back in 1997 and they have grown to

35:35

become the country's largest children's ministry. So

35:37

three years ago, as you guys know, war

35:39

broke out in Ukraine and it turned

35:41

everything upside down. Families were torn apart, communities

35:43

were shattered, but in the midst of

35:45

it all, God had opened doors. In partnership

35:48

with local churches, Tamara Clubs have reached

35:50

more children and families than ever. before. As

35:52

families were forced to flee their homes, well,

35:55

the tomorrow clubs offered hope

35:57

and discipleship to kids facing unimaginable

35:59

hardship. And today, against all

36:01

odds, the ministry in Ukraine is

36:03

growing and it's thriving. Nearly 14 ,000

36:05

kids now gather each week to learn

36:07

what it means to follow Jesus.

36:09

We truly believe here at Unashamed in

36:12

long -term discipleship relationships, partnering with local

36:14

churches and the importance of raising

36:16

up the next generation in faith. So

36:18

what we're doing is we're asking

36:20

for your help. We're inviting our

36:23

unashamed listeners to become a Tamara

36:25

Club's ministry partner by sponsoring 30

36:27

or more kids with a monthly

36:29

donation of just $1 per child.

36:31

Just $1 per child per month

36:33

to bring the life -changing hope

36:35

of the gospel to young people

36:38

in the places like the war -torn

36:40

country of Ukraine. Go to tomorrowclubs

36:52

In Isaiah 54 and 55 he literally

36:54

goes back to him and uses the

36:56

phraseology which is not familiar to us

36:58

but once you read it you're like

37:00

oh well they should have known this

37:02

is exactly what Isaiah 54 and 55

37:04

says. I mean to the word. So

37:07

we go back now you can understand

37:09

it like they understood it looking back

37:11

Because then they had the later on

37:13

they'll have received revelation from from the

37:15

spirit So when Jesus goes into John's

37:17

gospel later on he says that when

37:19

he says I got to leave But

37:22

I have to go because if I

37:24

don't go then he's not gonna come

37:26

and trust me You want him here

37:28

because he's the one's gonna tell you

37:30

about everything I said and he's gonna

37:32

guide you in the whole truth So

37:34

you you see the flow it's like

37:37

a seamless flow of God

37:39

revealing to us how

37:41

Christ or how God

37:43

became king. the

37:45

way, before you, Jason,

37:47

know you're going to Isaiah 54

37:49

with Jesus quotes, but remember, you

37:51

almost have to do it as

37:53

a full subset. Isaiah 53 is

37:56

the actual picture of the one

37:58

and only Son coming to earth. Yeah,

38:00

so so if you're wondering

38:03

whether this passage these three chapters

38:05

in Isaiah or Jesus it

38:07

you go back and read 53

38:09

as well just to set

38:11

up what you're about well And

38:13

you can actually go all

38:15

the way back to chapter 40

38:17

and read all the way

38:19

to 55 and you have this

38:21

kind of Two -point system or

38:24

maybe three God's gonna bring

38:26

you comfort because he's gonna use

38:28

Israel to produce this king and

38:31

the king's gonna comfort you and

38:33

welcome you. So that's basically

38:36

what he said. I mean, Zach, you

38:38

brought up the Luke 24. I wasn't

38:40

interrupting you. I just remember you made

38:42

that argument, but I'm just making the

38:44

point in Luke 24 when he said

38:46

that he opened their minds. Your folks

38:48

know him opening their minds, but it

38:50

says he opened their minds so that

38:52

they could understand the scriptures, which

38:55

when we see scriptures, we

38:57

think the Bible, but They didn't

38:59

have the New Testament. They

39:01

sure didn't have what we're reading

39:03

now. They weren't

39:05

making the connections to the

39:07

scriptures. He's obviously making a

39:09

connection to Isaiah 54 and

39:11

55. But the reason why

39:13

I bring that up, though,

39:15

is because I believe that

39:17

the illumination begins with the

39:19

Holy Spirit. Well, I

39:21

agree with that, but you're getting the cart

39:23

before the whole... I'm saying let's just wait

39:25

on that, because I think that's what gets

39:27

confusing. For because

39:29

we're getting the car before the whole

39:31

he's gonna bring the Holy Spirit up

39:33

He did bring it up here marked

39:36

in the seal. So you're right He

39:38

said I was marked in the seal

39:40

by the seal of the Holy Spirit

39:42

as the son of God But John

39:44

7 I just want to wait till

39:46

we get to John 7 because that's

39:49

when he brings up the Holy Spirit,

39:51

but he says It hasn't even been

39:53

poured out yet or whatever the terminology

39:55

is I mean, do you

39:57

want me to read it and then you

39:59

can comment on it? Yeah, go ahead

40:01

because I feel like You can't really understand

40:03

that till you get to John. I

40:05

mean that it's the way John wrote it.

40:07

He's giving you a hint Then later

40:09

on he kind of just drops a bombshell

40:11

So I'll go ahead and read it

40:13

because what bars where you starting that again

40:15

John seven 30 is 38 but now

40:17

if you look at your little heading there

40:19

in 25 It says is Jesus the

40:21

Christ, which is what I'm a point. I'm

40:24

trying to make here Are you in

40:26

John 6 or John 7? I'm in John

40:28

7. John 7, 38.

40:30

said John 7, 25, and my

40:32

Bible has a little heading

40:34

that says, is Jesus a Christ?

40:36

Because it's the same vibe,

40:38

you know, and it comes down

40:40

to verse, where's this

40:43

28? It says, yes, you know me and

40:45

you know where I'm from. I

40:47

am not here on my own,

40:49

which is the same as John 6

40:51

and John 5. But he

40:53

who sent me is true. It's

40:55

the same wording. All right,

40:57

so we go on down

41:00

and get to 38 Well, want

41:02

to go to 30s because

41:04

because the Greeks show up at

41:06

which is what causes this

41:08

is what I was trying to

41:10

Focus in on the Jews

41:12

in verse 35 of John 7

41:14

said to one another where

41:16

does this man intend to go?

41:19

That we cannot find him Because

41:21

he had just said you will

41:23

look for me, but where you

41:25

will not wear But you will

41:27

not find me and where I

41:29

am you cannot come because he

41:31

was talking about fast forward when

41:33

he Goes to the right hand

41:35

of God So the Jews said

41:37

to one another this man intend

41:39

to go Well, he go where

41:42

our people live scattered among the

41:44

Greeks and teach the Greek they

41:46

were thinking Somewhere on the planet

41:48

He was thinking Not in

41:50

the dimension of the planet, but then

41:52

he says what did he mean

41:54

when he said you will look for

41:56

me But you will not find

41:58

me and where I am you cannot

42:00

come on the last and greatest

42:02

day of the feast Jesus stood and

42:04

said in a loud voice if

42:06

anyone is thirsty let him come to

42:08

me and drink it's the same

42:10

vibe instead of using the bread if

42:12

anybody is hungry he's got to

42:14

eat my flesh same vibe is John

42:17

four with Samaritan woman.

42:20

We're talking about liquid

42:22

and bread. Let

42:24

him come to me

42:26

and drink whoever believes

42:28

in me as the

42:30

scriptures has said. So

42:33

he's going back to

42:35

trying to use their understanding

42:37

that they obviously missed

42:39

that these Old Testament scriptures

42:41

pointed to him. It

42:43

says, the scriptures have said,

42:45

streams of living water will

42:47

flow from within him. Well,

42:51

what in the world does that mean? Well,

42:53

John tells you what it means. John

42:56

interrupts the book and says,

42:58

okay, by this he

43:00

meant the Spirit whom those

43:02

who believed in him were

43:05

later to receive. Up to

43:07

that time, the Spirit had

43:09

not been given since Jesus

43:11

had not yet

43:13

been glorified I Just think that

43:15

that's a crazy Crazy passage

43:17

and it must be John felt

43:20

like you need to put

43:22

this in order. That's why I

43:24

was interrupted I was like

43:26

well don't go ahead and talk

43:28

about spirit because he's fixed

43:30

to address that and That's why

43:32

they couldn't get it because

43:34

they didn't have the the Holy

43:36

Spirit, but that was coming

43:38

later You see yeah, okay, so

43:40

I think we covered that So

43:43

we're gonna get to that. So where

43:45

do we leave off in John 6 verse?

43:50

29 yeah, so my only point of

43:52

doing that was We're so tempted

43:54

to go to the Holy Spirit here

43:56

But he's like just hang on

43:58

just he because he's trying to go

44:00

back to the scriptures and kind

44:02

of play their game and say You're

44:04

basing the fact that I'm not

44:06

the son of God Because you've read

44:08

the Bible and say well guy

44:10

can't become a man What are you

44:12

crazy? And he's like,

44:14

no, there's some scriptures back there that's

44:17

talking about me. Well, I think it

44:19

helps us kind of solve the puzzle

44:21

if we get into the perspective that

44:23

Jesus was in in the moment trying

44:25

to use the verses to show and

44:27

the miracles and the signs. Hey,

44:30

this was about me. These

44:32

verses like what? What?

44:35

Okay. So where

44:37

do we leave off?

44:39

What 32 or 30? When

44:42

he tells him he brings up about the

44:44

manna. Yeah, he brings up the manna So they

44:46

asked what he said this is right after

44:48

he said believe in the one he has sent

44:50

So they asked him what miraculous sign will

44:52

you give that we may see and believe you?

44:54

What will you do? Our

44:56

forefathers ate the man in the

44:58

desert as it is written see it's

45:00

a it's a biblical argument here

45:02

there That's what they're having Jesus is

45:04

arguing one thing and they're arguing

45:06

another He gave them bread from heaven

45:08

to eat. And by the way,

45:10

the argument is, is it about Jesus

45:12

or not? Jesus said to him,

45:14

I tell you the truth, it is

45:16

not Moses who has given you

45:19

the bread from heaven, but it is

45:21

my father who gives you the

45:23

true bread from heaven. Key phrase there,

45:25

without talking about anything else is when

45:27

he said, my father, he's

45:30

like, my father, my father was the

45:32

one who came. They're like, your

45:34

father, you're just a man from, where

45:37

are you from? Galilee Nazareth

45:39

and they're gonna say that

45:41

later in verse 42 verse

45:43

33 for the bread of

45:45

God is He who comes

45:47

down from heaven and gives

45:49

life To the world to

45:51

your point Zach. It's about

45:53

Something coming from heaven not

45:55

us going to that's why

45:57

if we get into faith

45:59

and works argument earlier where

46:01

we're missing the whole point

46:03

here, you know of what's

46:05

happening All right verse 34 Sir,

46:08

they said from now on, give us this bread.

46:10

All right, we want the

46:12

bread that's from heaven to

46:14

you provide. So

46:18

my son, Bear turned 17

46:20

this last week, and he's buying

46:22

a new car. And one

46:24

of the things that I've done with all my kids is

46:26

I say, you pay for half, I pay for half. And

46:29

the reason why I do that is because I want them

46:31

to understand the value of money and what it takes to. To

46:33

live your life and so i want

46:35

to instill that in them at an

48:16

You got to go back to verse 27

48:18

when don't understand that to you like

48:20

he says the Son of Man will give

48:22

this to you So I don't trying

48:24

to give it to you is what yeah.

48:26

Yeah, they're at but now they're saying

48:28

we'll give it to us He's like, yeah,

48:30

that's what I'm trying to do. You

48:32

have to listen to me. Exactly. So 35

48:34

then Jesus declared I am the bread

48:36

of life. I mean just

48:38

Flat out you want to

48:40

know what the illustration was all

48:42

about It's that I am

48:45

the bread of life. That's why

48:47

Maybe the same thing at the

48:49

woman at the woman at the well.

48:51

the same conversation. He's just keeps

48:53

having it over and over again. He's

48:55

and he is Telling them you're

48:57

looking at the very like you're looking

49:00

at the bread. You should be

49:02

eating Exactly. It's me and he actually

49:04

calls it real Coming up. He's

49:06

like the bread you're the one you

49:08

wanted to go by in the

49:10

in the market faith that's not even

49:12

real He's actually

49:15

doing something so crazy. They're

49:17

like, that bread is not

49:19

real. This bread, speaking

49:21

of himself, is real. Watch

49:23

how he does this. He

49:25

who comes to me will never go

49:27

hungry, and he who believes in me will

49:29

never be thirsty. But

49:31

as I told you, you have seen me

49:33

and still do not believe. All

49:36

that the Father gives me will

49:38

come to me, and whoever comes

49:40

to me, I will never drive

49:42

away. for I have come down

49:44

from heaven not to do my

49:46

will, but to do the will

49:48

of him who sent me. And

49:51

this is the will of him who

49:53

sent me, that I shall lose none of

49:55

all that he has given me, but

49:57

raise them up at the last day. For

49:59

my will is that everyone

50:01

who looks to the Son and

50:03

believes in him shall have eternal

50:05

life, and I will raise him

50:07

up at the last day." I'm

50:09

hearing that good news. In the

50:11

midst of all this Trying to

50:13

figure all this out. Is that

50:15

not the greatest news you've ever

50:18

heard? For my father, our Creator

50:20

God, His will is that everyone

50:22

who looks to the Son and

50:24

believes in Him shall have eternal

50:26

life, and I will raise him

50:28

up at the last day. At

50:31

this, the Jews began

50:33

to grumble. It

50:35

was the greatest line that

50:37

you could ever conceive. And

50:39

at that, they grumbled. about

50:42

him because he said, I am the

50:44

bread that comes down from heaven. They

50:47

said, is this not Jesus,

50:49

the son of Joseph, whose father

50:51

and mother we know? How

50:53

can he now say I came

50:56

down from heaven? Stop gremlin among

50:58

yourselves, Jesus answered. No

51:00

one can come to me unless

51:02

the father has sent me

51:04

draws him and I will raise

51:06

him up at the last

51:08

day. It is written in the

51:10

prophets. They will all

51:12

be taught by God. That's

51:15

Isaiah 54. And

51:17

we'll go and read it.

51:20

But I want to read the last

51:22

of this section. Everyone who listens

51:24

to the father and learns from him

51:26

comes to me. No

51:28

one has seen the father except

51:30

the one who is from God. Only

51:34

he has seen the father. I

51:36

tell you the truth. He

51:38

who believes has eternal life. Everlasting

51:41

life. I mean how many times

51:43

you got to say that I

51:45

am the bread of life He

51:47

says again your forefathers ain't the

51:49

man in the desert yet. They

51:51

died But here is the bread

51:53

that comes down from heaven which

51:55

a man may eat and not

51:57

die I am the living bread

51:59

that came down from heaven if

52:01

anyone eats of this bread he

52:03

will live forever This bread is

52:05

my flesh and I will Which

52:07

I will give for the life

52:10

of the world Therefore, the Jews

52:12

began to argue sharply among themselves,

52:14

how can this man give us

52:16

his flesh to eat? Jesus said,

52:18

I tell you the truth, unless

52:21

you eat the flesh of the

52:23

Son of Man and drink his blood,

52:25

you have no life in you. It's

52:27

about life. Whoever eats

52:30

my flesh and drinks my blood has

52:32

eternal life, and I will raise him

52:34

up at the last day. For

52:36

my flesh is real food

52:39

That's what's crazy and my

52:41

blood is real. This is

52:43

real Whoever eats my flesh

52:45

and drinks my blood remains

52:48

me and I and him

52:50

just as the living father

52:52

sent me I live because

52:54

of the father so the

52:56

one who feeds on me

52:59

Will live because of me.

53:01

This is the bread that

53:03

came down from heaven Your

53:05

forefathers ate manna and died, but

53:07

he who feeds on this bread will

53:10

live forever." I mean, he basically

53:12

says the same thing over and over

53:14

and over. He said this while

53:16

teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. On

53:18

hearing this, I think 60

53:20

is fascinating. Many of his disciples

53:22

said, this is a hard

53:24

teaching. Who can accept it? Aware

53:27

that his disciples were grumbling about

53:29

this, Jesus said, does this offend

53:31

you? What if you see the

53:33

Son of man ascend to where

53:35

he was before? He does this

53:38

again. He starts talking about when

53:40

he leaves. Then

53:42

verse 63, because we know

53:44

what happens when Jesus leaves.

53:46

What happens? The Spirit is

53:48

poured out. The Spirit gives

53:50

life. The flesh counts for nothing. The

53:52

words I've spoken to you are

53:54

Spirit and they are life. Yet

53:57

there are some of you who

53:59

do not believe. For Jesus had

54:01

known from the beginning, which of them

54:03

do not believe him and who would

54:05

betray him? He went on to say, this

54:08

is why I told you that

54:10

no one can come to me

54:12

unless the father has given him.

54:14

From this time, many of his

54:16

disciples turned back and no longer

54:18

followed him. What is

54:20

happening? You

54:22

do not want to leave too.

54:24

Do you? Jesus asked the 12

54:26

Peter wise wisely said, Lord, to

54:28

whom shall we go? You have

54:30

the words of eternal life. We

54:32

believe and know that you are

54:34

the Holy One of God, which

54:37

is basically at this point, the

54:39

only prerequisite for you to move

54:41

on, which I think was the

54:44

whole point. Then Jesus replied,

54:46

have I not chosen you the 12

54:48

yet? One of you is a devil.

54:50

He meant Judas, the son of Simon,

54:52

a scared who? Though

54:54

one of the 12 was later betrayed

54:56

we're gonna have to lead with

54:58

that on the next one But but

55:00

we can frame this whole argument

55:02

before we get there because what you're

55:05

seeing is it's it's so it's

55:07

almost like these current Jews these current

55:09

Jews that Jesus is dealing with

55:11

in the first century are Doing the

55:13

exact same thing that was done

55:15

way back in the wilderness, right? I

55:18

mean first they grumble then they

55:20

argue then ultimately they don't

55:22

really believe in God, in this

55:24

case in Jesus, who he is,

55:26

who he says he is. So

55:28

he's given you almost this replay

55:30

of everything that's already played out

55:32

that was really even way back

55:34

then pointing towards who Jesus is.

55:37

And now he's like, and I'm

55:39

here now, and you still don't

55:41

believe. which is fascinating because

55:43

every time you see these disciples these

55:45

time but this is that larger

55:47

group because remember there's now thousands of

55:49

people that are following around and

55:51

they would consider themselves to be disciples

55:53

of Jesus just like one time

55:55

they were disciples of John the Baptist.

55:58

But they really don't believe him and

56:00

that's why it boils right down

56:02

to the twelve and one of the

56:04

twelve. Peter steps up

56:06

and articulates for the rest of

56:08

them exactly what they do believe. And

56:11

then he brings in the point about Judas,

56:13

which is fascinating because we know even a

56:15

month or 12, there's one who doesn't believe

56:17

as well. And ultimately he's going to make

56:19

a decision for that. So, I

56:21

mean, that sort of frames the setup.

56:23

I think to when we go back

56:26

to Isaiah, when he talks about what

56:28

was taught, um, and we'll have to

56:30

get into that on the next. Yeah.

56:32

Which is a sobering thought because when

56:34

you think about people who are close

56:36

to Jesus, I'm talking about in our

56:38

world, man, how could you be any

56:40

closer than Judas? Yeah. And miss it. Right

56:43

there every conversation. That's why I

56:45

think it's important to frame this chapter

56:47

around your narrative versus God's narrative.

56:49

Yeah Look your people get it wrong

56:51

that they miss it, you know

56:54

And that's why you know churches in

56:56

the name of Jesus has done

56:58

a lot of damage in our world

57:00

But it's also you know the

57:02

ones that truly have the Holy Spirit

57:04

and if surrendered Jesus I believe

57:06

reflect the presence of God on earth.

57:09

I believe heaven comes down to

57:11

earth through spirit, fill people. Which like

57:13

I said before, which is why

57:15

the spirit and the resurrection are the

57:17

heart of this discussion. So next

57:19

time we'll go back and we'll pick

57:22

up that Isaiah text and bring

57:24

it to fruition. Thanks for
