answer your calls at 866, 594, 4.50.

0:52

On the chat, Kelly says hello from

0:54

Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria, Louisiana. How

0:57

cold is it up there?

0:59

And I was gonna, I actually wrote

1:01

this down to talk about earlier,

1:04

because it was 19 below in my

1:06

car. My truck this morning showed

1:08

minus 22. And I don't, I don't

1:10

think, I think we got a, I think

1:12

we have to make a move. I don't

1:15

think we should do that. I don't think

1:17

that's good for. It's not good

1:19

for us. It's not good for

1:21

our vehicles. We should just, we

1:23

got to, we got to handle

1:25

that. We got to handle that.

1:27

We've got to figure that

1:30

out. So it's not

1:32

warm. It's not ideal.

1:34

We weren't warming. No.

1:36

Nope. 866-594-4150. Let's talk

1:38

to Carl. You're on

1:40

the end of the

1:42

hood show. Carl, what can

1:45

we do for you? Okay,

1:47

2015 Chrysler Town and Country

1:50

Minivan. And the

1:52

remote, well, the push to

1:54

start button, it... Well, I got

1:57

two hundred and some thousand miles on it

1:59

two hundred five and it seems to

2:01

lose the range. I got screwed

2:03

up in the seat to get

2:05

it to start and never used

2:08

to do that. I wonder if

2:10

I can extend that range because

2:12

it does all the other functions,

2:14

I change the battery and it

2:17

does all the other functions, it

2:19

should. It'll remote start it from

2:21

a ways away and block doors

2:23

and everything, but inside the vehicle,

2:25

push to start and losing range.

2:29

Sounds like it's going to need

2:31

a new module in the dash.

2:33

This has been a big problem

2:35

from them. They've replaced a bunch

2:37

of them under warranty. Did a

2:39

recall on them because they considered

2:41

them safety things. People would get

2:43

in the vehicle and they wouldn't

2:45

start or they'd shut down. It's

2:47

a whole module. And if you're

2:49

running from the bad guys, you

2:51

got to have a car that'll

2:53

start. I've seen those movies. You

2:55

jump in and it won't go.

2:57

Yeah, they're going to catch it.

2:59

Don't think about that too much

3:01

car all but... Yeah, could be

3:03

a thing. I don't know what

3:05

kind of life you're living, but

3:07

this could be serious. Okay. Carl's

3:09

not laughing. One more question. There,

3:11

we got a chuckle out of

3:13

him. That's what we needed. Okay.

3:15

Can I ask another question? You

3:17

bet. Okay. I took my snowmobile

3:19

swimming up in Canada. Okay. And

3:21

it runs in idols just fine.

3:23

You know, you know, I did

3:25

all the things you're supposed to

3:27

do and I got it out

3:29

of the drink. And it'll, I

3:31

don't, just perfectly, it's a 2007

3:33

and it's a four stoker, but

3:35

it just falls on its face

3:37

when I try to give it

3:39

any throttle at all. It's just

3:41

blah, blah, blah. You know, I've

3:43

done a lot of things trying

3:45

to track this down. And the

3:47

local shop says they can't read

3:49

the codes, but on the internet,

3:51

you know, Dr. Google says they

3:53

can. Yeah, is it

3:56

so is it? Is this an older

3:58

older Yamaha? No, it's

4:00

the Arctic cat. T66. I, Russ, before

4:02

you jump in on this four-stroke question,

4:05

I really need to know more about

4:07

the situation. Yeah, I think I was

4:09

on it when I said Carl might

4:12

be doing bad stuff in his van.

4:14

Now he's not going fast enough. Now

4:16

he's trying to run away on a

4:19

snow wheel. Yeah, were you trying to

4:21

get over open open water? Did it

4:23

open beneath you? What happened here? It

4:26

opened beneath me. Okay. I was trying

4:28

to watch my GPS instead of watching

4:30

where I was going. And down I

4:32

went. And the ice suit is just

4:35

a lifesaver. Them floater ice suits? Yeah.

4:37

Yeah. How good? That's a good... How

4:39

deep of water were we talking here?

4:42

Oh, it was only five feet of

4:44

water, you know. Did it go to

4:46

the bottom? Did it go to the

4:49

bottom? Yeah. And it stayed there for

4:51

24 hours. And I got a rescue

4:53

team, they pulled it out. What did

4:56

freeze them if it was on the

4:58

bottom? And I got it home without

5:00

anything freezing, put it in my heated

5:02

shop, drained everything, took every connector apart,

5:05

put that electric grease, you know, cleaned

5:07

it with electric clean, everything. And boy,

5:09

that thing pops off and just, idols

5:12

like nothing, you know, and then... I

5:14

try to give it any gas to

5:16

just stumble and fall on its face.

5:19

I think it's got water in it.

5:21

There's a little bit of water trapped

5:23

in there that's just not... In the

5:26

fuel system you're thinking? It's just not

5:28

working its way past, it's there, and

5:30

it's just like, it's clogging it, doesn't

5:33

want to go. You know, you might

5:35

try some barium and B12 chem tool

5:37

in the tank if you haven't put

5:39

an additive in there yet to try

5:42

to try to help with that. Well,

5:44

I tipped it upside down, you know.

5:46

I dreamed it all and tipped it

5:49

upside down. Had to take seat cover

5:51

off and try that of the foam

5:53

out and... Still can get some stuff

5:56

trapped in there that just can't work

5:58

its way through. It's like... not that

6:00

just doing what the doing with the

6:03

exhaust. No, but when it started up

6:05

I put it outside and I let it idle

6:07

for an hour and boy there was a big

6:09

puddle underneath there that should all

6:11

blow that should all blown out of

6:14

there right away but I just wanted

6:16

to make sure you didn't have something

6:18

restricting it as it was trying to

6:21

go. I think you know I've been around

6:23

enough of this stuff too that's been

6:25

in water and and that's a pretty

6:27

simple system. Did you? Did

6:29

you replace any of the modules

6:31

or anything or just they're pretty

6:33

weather tight for the most part?

6:36

But they're not I'd call them

6:38

weather resistant in a snowmobile probably

6:40

not waterproof Yeah, I took them

6:42

all apart. You know the connectors

6:44

and blow them all out and

6:47

electric clean and dialectic grease and

6:49

everything put them all back the other

6:51

new old two sensor I got maps sensors

6:53

and the throttle position sensor

6:56

And the only thing I

6:58

haven't gone after is the

7:00

fuel pump, because it's in

7:02

tank fuel pump, you know,

7:05

it's high pressure fuel

7:07

injected system. Yeah, you'd have

7:09

to check that with a pressure

7:11

gauge to find out what's

7:14

going on there. And you think

7:16

it would be fuel, because I

7:18

took the plugs out in their

7:20

city, you know, they were really

7:23

rich looking. Well, and that

7:25

could have been from before because

7:27

it hasn't run long enough to

7:29

change anything Once you get them

7:31

once you get them that way, they're

7:33

going to stay that way. What did

7:35

you do with the clutch? Nothing I

7:37

haven't I've took the belt off, you

7:39

know, so it wasn't going to the

7:42

secondary, you know, sure I wasn't Getting

7:44

any drag. No, just double checking

7:46

and just double checking. Yeah, no,

7:48

I mean And well I've been

7:50

a long time listener for ever

7:52

first time caller but and I

7:54

love your show. Thanks. Thank you.

7:56

But and I I'm struggling here

7:58

you know and if you If you

8:00

come up now and if

8:03

your next question is about

8:05

say an ATV that you

8:08

dumped into a fan pit

8:10

or something. Yeah, yeah. We're

8:12

really, the suspension just got

8:15

some problems. I did about

8:17

a 40 foot jump and

8:19

we're starting to think more

8:22

about Carl. On the half

8:24

pipe. The mind, we'd have

8:27

to check my mind. Carl,

8:29

thanks very much for the call.

8:31

Good luck. That is, what, I

8:34

have a question, just real quick

8:36

before we go to the break

8:38

here. I have a question, how

8:40

much if I wanted to get

8:42

a decent brand new snowmobile, 2025?

8:44

Not top, top of the line,

8:46

but not that, you know, it's

8:48

going to be an Arctic cat,

8:50

new snowmobile. What's my budget got

8:52

to be for 2025? Well I

8:54

think Arctic Cat quit making snow

8:57

bills this year. Okay, did they?

8:59

I believe so. Okay. One of

9:01

them brands, you said enough, because

9:03

this last year was so hard

9:05

on everybody. Right. One down in,

9:07

is the Bombardier down in... No,

9:09

Bombardier is going crazy. They're trying

9:11

to do their best. But I

9:13

would think it would be... Skiidoo.

9:15

That would be Bombardier. Yeah. You're

9:17

in, I think if I remember

9:19

right, there's some good models you

9:22

can buy that's $25 thousand dollars.

9:24

That's uh, that seems, okay. Seven

9:26

to nine seems normal. I thought

9:28

it would be. There's some nice

9:30

entry models that they've got. I

9:32

mean, I pay attention to Skidoo,

9:34

but they've got some stuff I'd

9:36

have to look, but I think

9:38

in that range. 866, 594, 4.50.

9:40

That's the number to reach us

9:42

here at the end of the

9:45

hood show. Mark, what can we

9:47

do for you? Hello, I have

9:49

a 2014 Nissan Altima. And the

9:51

mass airflow sensor puts the light,

9:53

engine light on all time, and

9:55

I'll clean it, and it'll come

9:57

back on a few more words.

9:59

and I'll clean it, come back.

10:01

And then I got a new

10:03

one, and it's been the same

10:05

thing. It'll wait about a month,

10:08

and it'll come back on, you

10:10

know, light'll come back on, and

10:12

I clean it, and it'll go

10:14

off. And it's, I don't know what

10:17

the deal is with it, but

10:19

the engine light keeps coming on.

10:21

My life is next to me,

10:23

and she keeps hounding me about

10:26

it, but I don't even care

10:28

anymore. So is your wife sitting

10:30

beside you right now? Yeah, she

10:32

is. And she's smiling at

10:34

me and giving me a look.

10:37

Is she okay with you using

10:39

the type of terminology as hounding

10:41

as you're, as she's sitting next

10:43

to you? Oh, she's used to that.

10:46

Just as used to I am

10:48

as the light on the engine.

10:50

It's like a safe. It's correlative.

10:52

Well. It's okay that she's reminding

10:54

you that you shouldn't ignore this

10:57

because if it's a bigger problem,

10:59

you don't want to, you don't

11:01

want to have a bigger problem

11:03

or a bigger expense. How, how's

11:05

the vehicle, how's the vehicle

11:07

run otherwise? It runs good. Yeah,

11:09

it runs fine. And I keep up all changes

11:12

and spark plugs and all that

11:14

stuff. Is this a four cylinder

11:16

ultimate or a six cylinder ultimate?

11:19

Yeah, that's a four cylinder two

11:21

point five later. But

11:25

I was reading an article

11:27

that said that you could

11:29

have somebody when they erase the

11:31

code, they could set the frequency

11:33

higher or the threshold for

11:36

it to send the light on. No,

11:38

it sounds shady, even if

11:40

you could, don't, right? That's

11:42

programming. That's a factory programming

11:45

thing. That's the only thing

11:47

that could be done would be

11:49

a software update, which the car

11:52

may need to fix this problem.

11:54

And I'm not familiar with it. We haven't had any

11:56

come in with this problem that we've worked on.

11:59

We've done a lot. of them, but if

12:01

there is specifically for this, if there's

12:03

a service bulletin about this code coming

12:05

back and it says reflash, yes, they

12:07

could widen that parameter through a reflash

12:09

which would be designed just for this

12:11

purpose. But if there's no update for

12:13

this specific problem, then there's nothing they

12:15

can do to fix that. And you

12:17

have to go to a professional shop

12:19

that has the electronic management system. in

12:22

their office that provides those sort of

12:24

things or a dealership, all those would

12:26

have that to see if there is

12:28

a service bulletin. But one thing I'm

12:30

kind of wondering about is, and Russ,

12:32

tell me if I'm off base here,

12:34

if he's been taking this, is that,

12:36

I'm trying to think like, I've got

12:38

a couple of nisons, is that mass

12:40

airflow sensor just simply unscrew and come

12:42

right out of the air housing, the

12:45

air intake housing, or do you have

12:47

to disconnect the air housing to get

12:49

the mass air flow sensor flow sensor

12:51

out when you clean it when you

12:53

clean it? No, you just

12:55

got to take two screws out that

12:57

comes right out of plastic housing. Okay.

12:59

In the end. Yeah. Because we have

13:01

seen some of them where people are

13:03

messing with the air horn enough, the

13:05

air intake tubes that come from the

13:07

air cleaner, that they don't get them

13:09

back together correctly or they get a

13:11

crack in the plastic from moving them

13:13

around a bunch. And then as you

13:15

play with it, it sometimes gives a

13:17

leak, sometimes doesn't give a leak and

13:20

then you get different readings. But that

13:22

would be a that's a that's just

13:24

a theory of something. I always look

13:26

for something simple. But yeah, and I

13:28

hear filter too, you know, so Russ,

13:30

what would you do? This thing comes

13:32

in the shop and you know, it's

13:34

a common, it's happening, you can replicate

13:36

this, right? It's coming on often, right?

13:38

Yeah. What would be your month? Yeah.

13:40

But if it comes in with it

13:42

on. What would be your diagnostic path?

13:44

Read it and see that it's there

13:46

and then check the actual sensor itself

13:48

with a meter at the sensor and

13:50

see if the sensor is any good

13:52

and follow that back to the computer

13:54

and check the same there and make

13:56

sure I've got the same voltages and

13:58

readings there. and on the

14:01

oscilloscope, but if everything looks

14:03

good there, it also probably do a smoke test

14:05

on that intake system and see if there's

14:07

any leaks between the engine and the mass airflow

14:09

sensor that's unmetered airflow that would be

14:11

causing that. Make sure that's not

14:13

leaking. If it's got be leak -free,

14:15

if it leaks at all, it will

14:17

throw that code. Could be a

14:19

very small leak that's, and it's

14:21

causing this only once a month. Oh,

14:24

so if you draw in

14:27

fresh air, if not come through

14:29

the duct, it could be. Right, if

14:31

it's pulling any leak between the

14:33

mass airflow sensor and the engine

14:35

itself, it will turn that light on.

14:37

Mark, thanks very much for the call.

14:39

Let's cut right to the chase for

14:41

Mark here. Would you ignore

14:43

it or would you make sure, who's

14:45

right here? I'd say

14:47

I'm tired of working on it. Chris,

14:49

you'd be like, okay, I'll leave it.

14:52

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I would totally do

14:54

that. Well, he is not only, he's

14:56

ignoring two things. Okay, his

14:58

wife and his problem.

15:00

One's easier to ignore.

15:02

Yeah, yeah. Good point. Yeah,

15:05

you're right, I got you. And

15:07

you have to fix the check engine

15:09

light before you can fix the

15:12

other. Exactly. You got too many codes

15:14

here. I think he's got a

15:16

trouble code deeper than the dash. Yes,

15:18

if you don't fix that code

15:20

in the car, the other trouble code

15:23

is gonna stay. Because once that

15:25

car, for any reason, has another problem.

15:27

That's right. You

15:29

get a low tire and the TPMS light

15:31

comes on. It's because

15:33

you didn't fix the other one. didn't

15:35

read the codes right. Yes, you're right.

15:40

866 -594 -4150. Let's go to Indiana and talk

15:42

to Rex. You're on the under the

15:44

hood show, Rex. What can we do for

15:46

you? So,

15:49

it's a little bit of a long

15:51

story. I'll try and make it short. I

15:53

have a 2018 Silverado 5

15:55

.3 4 -wheel drive. I

16:00

feel some kind of

16:02

a hesitation when during

16:04

acceleration, it's typically at low

16:06

RPM, you know, if you kick in

16:09

in the passing gear, it doesn't

16:11

do it. But there's a hesitation

16:13

when I'm accelerating and it's done,

16:15

it's at a wide range of

16:18

speed. I took it to a

16:20

dealer, I got a buddy that works

16:22

at a dealer, they took it for

16:24

a drive, he said he didn't notice

16:26

it at all. I took it to

16:29

a transmission shop. He took it out

16:31

by itself and said he didn't really

16:33

notice anything. It's worse when I pull

16:35

a trailer. So I took my trailer,

16:37

took it back to that transmission shop.

16:40

He took it for a ride, had

16:42

his diagnostic hooked up

16:44

to it and said that he didn't

16:46

really notice any amount of slip or

16:48

anything like that that would be outside

16:51

of norm, if you will. you know,

16:53

he was perfectly willing to

16:55

take $4,000 that rebuild it,

16:57

but he said that he

16:59

didn't didn't see an issue there. So

17:01

I met a loss as to what it

17:03

is. One additional thing that

17:05

I've done since having having all

17:08

of that done, you know, looked

17:10

at or whatever it was, I

17:12

bought an AFS disabled and since

17:14

I've been using that, it seems

17:17

to have reduced significantly. I mean,

17:19

I barely noticed that at all.

17:21

I do once in a while,

17:23

but not much. So just kind

17:25

of trying to figure out what's going

17:27

on. You know, what should I expect?

17:29

What should I look for? What's next?

17:32

It's got, I don't know, like 125,000

17:34

miles on or something. That was going

17:36

to be one of my questions. How many

17:38

miles? Okay, so I just got to

17:40

back up a little bit here and

17:42

just kind of talk myself through

17:44

this. You are definitely feeling something

17:47

and other people are not. Yes,

17:49

I know my truck you and

17:51

the vehicle that you drive every

17:53

day. You know that vehicle. You

17:56

know how it feels so you

17:58

if something changes that's. I'm asking

18:00

so you know something is different than

18:02

how long ago? I don't know. I've

18:05

had it for three or four years.

18:07

When did you wake up one day

18:09

and say I got a problem? Was

18:11

it that noticeable? No, I don't believe

18:14

so. I believe it was gradual. No,

18:16

I can't really tell you for certain

18:18

when I really first sort of noticing

18:20

it. When it happens, when it happens,

18:23

have you ever paid close attention to

18:25

the tack? The tackometer. A little bit.

18:27

Does it, does it, does it, does

18:29

the tack, the tack doesn't do a

18:32

little bounce up just a little bit

18:34

when, when you feel it? I haven't,

18:36

I haven't noticed that, no, but I

18:38

haven't really, you know, it is not

18:41

being sarcastic. No, no, no. No, but

18:43

next time you know this is happening,

18:45

look at your tack and see if

18:47

your tack is bouncing up just a

18:50

little bit. like 100-200-RPM, like hardly noticeable

18:52

if you're not, you know, focusing on

18:54

it. Right. Because I had an 18

18:56

Silverado that had a mystery thing, and

18:58

it ended up being, and I've, no

19:01

I've talked about this a lot, but

19:03

a lot of people had the same

19:05

problem. It was a problem with the

19:07

shutter and the torque converter, and it

19:10

was caused by GM having the wrong

19:12

fluid in that thing from the factory.

19:14

And I ended up having to do

19:16

a couple flusheseshes with a routine that

19:19

they've got, and in that they've got,

19:21

and in that particular case, it solved

19:23

the problem. me first hand. That was

19:25

an 18 Silver Auto, I had a

19:28

6.2 with the 8-speed automatic. And that

19:30

was, but we've also seen that in

19:32

other models like that. But if your

19:34

tax not jumping a little bit, then

19:37

that's probably not the issue. Okay. But

19:39

I definitely, I would, I would look

19:41

at that a little bit closer. And

19:43

that transmission shop said he didn't see

19:46

anything that was outside the parameters? Maybe,

19:48

is that saying he saw something? tack

19:50

than I would take if this were

19:52

my vehicle. If a tech drove it

19:55

and said no, there's no problem. I

19:57

would shut that door off and remind

19:59

some of that. But if somebody wanted

20:01

to know, Russ or somebody wanted to

20:04

know, they could hook up their live

20:06

data to that and drive it and

20:08

as long as you could replicate it

20:10

while he's with? Right. They could start

20:13

checking some things and seeing where it's

20:15

missing at. Rex, thanks very much for

24:47

he's home and he's working to

25:08

say move forward one step at

25:10

25:12

time and we're proud of you.

25:14

Thanks for listening. 866-594-4150, let's talk

25:16

to Brad, you're on the end

25:18

of the hood show, Brad, what

25:20

can we do for you? I've

25:23

got a 2008 Pontiac torrent, 4.3,

25:25

all-wheel drive, 234,000 miles. It's a

25:27

good battery, runs just fine when

25:29

it's running. When it gets cold,

25:31

it tends to not want to

25:33

start. We get it up on

25:35

a record and as soon as

25:37

the record gets ready to pull

25:39

away we try it one more

25:42

time and it starts with that

25:44

next. We get it into one

25:46

time it didn't actually start and

25:48

again into a warm facility and

25:50

it started right up after the

25:52

car warmed up. So I'm kind

25:54

of running a glitch here trying

25:56

to figure out electrically what could

25:58

possibly be going on. You just

26:01

need to buy a record and

26:03

just have it close by it.

26:05

Hark it in your yard and

26:07

with a winch and just pull

26:09

it up on there every time.

26:11

Homemaker right next turn. It's like

26:13

a conductive mat for the iPhone,

26:15

you know, you just put it

26:17

on there and it. How is

26:20

it up? Torrent, he's got a

26:22

torrent affair with a problem. The

26:24

torrent slash equinox vehicle, I just

26:26

want to clarify, maybe Russ got

26:28

it, but I was so entertained

26:30

by Chris's comment that I lost

26:32

my train of thought. 3.4 v6.

26:34

Yeah, but was it not physically

26:36

turning over or is it cranking

26:39

and not starting? No turning over,

26:41

just clicked, all lights come on,

26:43

everything activates, there's obviously, it's obviously,

26:45

it's... I don't know what codes

26:47

you're coming up, but right now

26:49

it's in a parking ramp, so

26:51

trying to get it out of

26:53

there is going to be an

26:55

issue, but that's where we're at.

26:58

Is it cold? Really cold? Yeah.

27:00

How cold is it out at

27:02

your place? Okay, so this is

27:04

the local market here, then yeah,

27:06

you're cold. You might need a

27:08

starter. Because I've had, what, a

27:10

dozen people call me this past

27:12

week and said... My car won't

27:14

start it just it just goes

27:17

click like oh, it's not turning

27:19

over. No, it just okay. Just

27:21

nothing or it doesn't even click

27:23

it or is it at? Oh

27:25

sitting outside. It's like all right.

27:27

Well put it inside. Well, what's

27:29

that going to do? I said

27:31

just Can you get it in

27:33

a garage or anything? And some

27:36

of them got it into a

27:38

garage where it was five degrees

27:40

warmer and it started right up

27:42

and worked just fine. She's a

27:44

hair driver. I had one yesterday

27:46

I fought with trying to get

27:48

started. The car I was driving

27:50

yesterday wouldn't start and I tried

27:52

it a bunch of times and

27:55

finally it went. You know, the

27:57

starter warmed up I guess enough

27:59

bike. trying it that I

28:01

got it to go. But we had

28:03

with the weather change, there was a

28:05

lot of moisture in the air and

28:07

then everything got cold and that moisture

28:10

gets in its way into the starters

28:12

and then they don't start. I actually

28:14

had two of them. One this morning,

28:16

one yesterday that said my car wasn't

28:18

charging. And I drove for like 20

28:20

miles and then all of a sudden,

28:23

it started charging again all on itself.

28:25

I said, yeah, there was... probably ice

28:27

on the brushes inside and it wasn't

28:29

making contact and then it was fine

28:31

like what do I do? I said

28:33

you wait for it to warm up.

28:35

I said it probably will be fine

28:38

now that it's going but we have

28:40

times and I can remember back we

28:42

didn't have it last year the year

28:44

before but I can remember other times

28:46

when I got a lot of calls

28:48

for the same thing and it passed

28:51

it just moved on by cars or

28:53

like people they just should not be

28:55

out when it's this cold. And if

28:57

you wanted to verify this it's an

28:59

easy verification is if when it's not

29:01

starting you go down and just get

29:04

a simple meter test light probably meter

29:06

and just see how many volts you're

29:08

getting to the starter and to the

29:10

exciter wire when it's not starting. There's

29:12

only two wires down there. One to

29:14

turn it on and one that's full

29:17

power. And so if you're not getting

29:19

12 volts you it's pretty that's a

29:21

pretty easy diagnosis then. Go ahead. We

29:23

did have the issue last weekend down

29:25

in Sioux City and I did take

29:27

a generator and a dryer with me

29:30

and tried it and I warmed up

29:32

the starter and that didn't help at

29:34

that time. You're the same sort of

29:36

issue as my daughter's car and she

29:38

lives over in Iowa and the mechanic

29:40

got into the shop and put a

29:42

ECU and an underneath on top of

29:45

the battery there. but they put a

29:47

new computer in it or actually a

29:49

used computer and it ran good for

29:51

the rest of the cold season until

29:53

now. That would be the least, that

29:55

would be the least likely problem. Yeah,

29:58

so. What they need to do is

30:00

put some gloves on and some warm

30:02

clothes and go outside and bear it,

30:04

fix it while it's cold. It may

30:06

cost you a little more. It should

30:08

if they're working in the cold, but

30:11

not a lot more. But they should

30:13

be fixing this outside in the cold

30:15

while it's not working so they can

30:17

find the problem. Don't bring it in

30:19

because it's going to start working. Probably

30:21

pretty quickly. If you're moving it and

30:24

it's starting to work, I mean, we

30:26

fix it. He's not saying they got

30:28

to put the starter on in the

30:30

cold. Right. They need to diagnose it.

30:32

And we have diagnosed plenty of vehicles

30:34

outside when it's 10 to 20 below

30:37

zero to try to find them when

30:39

there are cold start issue. Hard pass

30:41

for me. But that starter also, though,

30:43

if you got a little bit of

30:45

oil leaks or whatever might happen to

30:47

be. Oh, that'll. And then they start

30:49

getting just gunk inside the head of

30:52

the head of the head of the

30:54

starter. that can cause the same thing

30:56

just when they get cold they just

30:58

get so gummed up they just don't

31:00

work right how how cold are we

31:02

talking where it starts I mean where

31:05

it where the problem I would say

31:07

you got to get to 30 that's

31:09

that starter might just be full of

31:11

that's crud from the age yeah it's

31:13

probably just old because as a rule

31:15

from what we see in the equinoxes

31:18

the torrents that generation that generation They

31:20

didn't have a lot of problems with

31:22

the ignition switch, the relays, there wasn't

31:24

a big issue there. Is the front

31:26

valve cover leaking on that right down

31:28

onto the starter? Like 80% of them

31:31

do? It's over more towards the crank

31:33

and away from the starter, but I'm

31:35

sure that that starter probably still got

31:37

found to it. Yeah. Or it's been

31:39

oil been filled and it's run down

31:41

that front side too. We see that.

31:44

a lot you know where there's oil

31:46

so at some point they've had oil

31:48

in them even if it was spilled

31:50

once five years ago and it's dried

31:52

up. Yeah, and we're kind of really

31:54

getting in on this starter, but truthfully,

31:56

that would be your easiest repair, probably

31:59

your most affordable repair, and at 130,000

32:01

miles, it's probably not a problem to

32:03

put one on it. Right. Putting the

32:05

starter on it, it wouldn't hurt anything.

32:07

Put a good brand name, re-manufactured, or

32:09

new starter on there would be something

32:12

to look at, but like I said,

32:14

that can be checked. What's your idea?

32:16

I got a weird noise in somebody's

32:18

car and I was getting ready to

32:20

tear something down on it. I said,

32:22

you know what? It sounds like the

32:25

starter. Just hit me. It's an equinox.

32:27

It's just like this. Same thing. Look

32:29

at us. We're even solving our own

32:31

problems. I like that when that happens.

32:33

Brad, thanks very much for the call.

32:35

Good luck. Start with a meter at

32:38

the starter. Yeah, and see if would

32:40

you do that or would you... If

32:42

this were your daughter and she lived

32:44

there, would you just say, put a

32:46

starter on, I'll get it. If there

32:48

was somebody there that could put a

32:50

starter on it. I'd say just do

32:53

that. That was a friend of hers

32:55

or somebody nearby? I'd say put a

32:57

starter on it. You guys would want

32:59

to know what I'm doing right now

33:01

at any moment? Right now, I'm trying

33:03

to figure out. Well, now that's four,

33:06

but three others at the shop right

33:08

now of... how I'm going to fix

33:10

those because they're in there being worked

33:12

on right now. And I'm also thinking

33:14

about why these computers are not working.

33:16

And the lyrics to BTO, taking care

33:19

of business. And that one too. So

33:21

I was pushing that to the side,

33:23

but now that's back on top. So

33:25

you got to put it all in

33:27

there at once. That one you can

33:29

like, oh, it's not in there. And

33:32

you wonder why I'm like, it's noisy.

33:34

It's noisy in there. I get it.

33:36

866 594 4.50 that's the number to

33:38

reach is here at the end of

33:40

the hood show if we were doing

33:42

this show and this this is I

33:45

this is my I this is my

33:47

thing this is my fetish here about

33:49

the cars today if we were doing

33:51

this show in 1975 instead of 2025.

33:53

I think your carburetors got a problem.

33:55

And it were 19 below outside. How

33:57

many cars wouldn't start? Because of their

34:00

problem or because of operator error? Just

34:02

in general. How many, you know what

34:04

I mean? I mean, I just think

34:06

about, we were just talking about that

34:08

car that won't start when it gets

34:10

cold. Yeah. It would be, so we'd

34:13

have a ton of people, what do

34:15

I do? I think it's amazing. They

34:17

tried to start it, so the cars

34:19

with carburetors started amazingly well if you

34:21

knew how to start them. And the

34:23

systems like these today were working properly.

34:26

So the number, if this is 1976

34:28

and you got your brand new Pontiac

34:30

Grand Safari station wagon out for the

34:32

wife and your 2.5 kids or whatever

34:34

it is at time, and you're trying

34:36

to start it. The first thing you

34:39

do before you do anything is you

34:41

turn the key on and you try

34:43

to crank it. And you see what

34:45

the engine does. Because you're not giving

34:47

it any gas, you haven't set the

34:49

choke, you're just turning it over, and

34:52

when I'm turning it over, is it

34:54

turning over fast enough to start? If

34:56

it goes, you're not going to, no

34:58

matter how many times you pump the

35:00

gas, I can remember that. Oh, keep

35:02

pumping the gas, it won't start. No,

35:04

don't touch it. If it. If it

35:07

doesn't turn over, step one, step one,

35:09

step one, is get the battery. charged

35:11

enough to make it work. And how

35:13

did we do it? On those old,

35:15

you get the old diard from 76,

35:17

you turn the headlights on for a

35:20

couple minutes, turn them off. Excite the

35:22

electrons and then give it another shot.

35:24

Is it turning over good now? And

35:26

because you gave it a shot, is

35:28

it turning over good now? And because

35:30

you gave it a shot of 600

35:33

amps trying to crank, we're going. What's

35:35

an accelerator pump? Some people are. And

35:37

you know, just enough to close it

35:39

and then let it fire up on

35:41

its own because it will if it's

35:43

20 below. But some people would say,

35:46

well, okay, I gotta pump this thing

35:48

three times like I normally do when

35:50

it's 50 degrees, and then crank it,

35:52

and then see what it does. Hold

35:54

the shift layer up. Because it'll flood.

35:56

If it's cranking too slow, it just

35:58

pours gas and then it'll have if

36:01

you put it to the floor before

36:03

you started and then let it up,

36:05

that would set the electric choke. Well,

36:07

they set the choke even, just open

36:09

it at a quarter inch. Just enough

36:11

to crack that throttle, that throttle, it

36:14

will crack that throttle, it, it, will

36:16

set that throttle, will set that throttle,

36:18

will set that throttle, will set that

36:20

throttle, will set that will set that

36:22

throttle, will set that, will set that,

36:24

will, will, will, will, will, will, will,

36:27

will, will, will, will, will, will, will,

36:29

will, will, will, will, will, will, will,

36:31

will, will, will, will, will, will, will,

36:33

will, will, will and you know you

36:35

hold it all the way to the

36:37

floor to let the throttle open all

36:40

the way up which pushes the choke

36:42

open and then you crank it and

36:44

try to clear that flood out and

36:46

you crank it until it tries to

36:48

fire and if it tries to go

36:50

then you can let it off a

36:53

little bit and push it right back

36:55

down until it starts clearing out and

36:57

then let it up. The whole symphony

36:59

is... You're probably holding up on the

37:01

shifter. It's a feel. Yeah if you've

37:03

done it enough and nobody had that

37:05

as a rule except for some. So

37:08

now with fuel injection and modern systems,

37:10

everybody has that same feel until it

37:12

doesn't work. See, my parents had remote

37:14

starts. Because it does everything for you.

37:16

That's just it. All the stuff he

37:18

just described, the computer is doing for

37:21

you in one second. You're right. When

37:23

a car used to not start, you

37:25

could try things now. It seems like

37:27

such a shock that it's not working.

37:29

You're just stuck. It's like a solid

37:31

state. Yeah. My parents got their first

37:34

remote starter. probably in 19, it's about

37:36

1975, right in that area, and it

37:38

was called Russ. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

37:40

exactly. I learned to just start the

37:42

cars and it was go out and,

37:44

you know, fire up the tempest, fire

37:47

up the Volkswagen, you know, get the

37:49

old Ozmobile going. It was, I was

37:51

the grand safari wagon, but it was,

37:53

I was the guy to. You were

37:55

the remote start to go out there

37:57

and get it, get it. going, because

38:00

it was cold and I was excited.

38:02

I get to go start the car,

38:04

do not drive the car anywhere. Start

38:06

the car. I did drive the car

38:08

somewhere when I was much younger than

38:10

that because I knew how to start

38:12

it and Stand on the seat and

38:15

pull the gear into reverse. That was

38:17

my aunt's car that was Lee's summit

38:19

and it it moved I have a

38:21

question for you we were talking about

38:23

snowmobiles earlier Have you ever either? accidentally

38:25

or through through through fun through, have

38:28

you unexpectedly or expectedly ever put a

38:30

snowmobile in the water? No. Okay. I've

38:32

skipped over open water just when you're

38:34

going up and down the river. All

38:36

of a sudden realize you're going fast

38:38

enough and you've got to make a

38:41

decision. But it's not like these people

38:43

on TV that are taking or on

38:45

YouTube. They're driving across lakes and stuff

38:47

like that. I'm not doing anything like

38:49

that. I'm not doing anything like that.

38:51

Have you been there when it's happened?

38:54

Have you been there when it's happened?

38:56

Yes. Yeah. I'm not surprised to hear

38:58

that. Because that happens sometimes. I put

39:00

a three I put a three wheeler

39:02

or two in the water, you know,

39:04

back in the day, but not a

39:07

snowmobile. Was it was it unexpected? Yes.

39:09

Okay. All right. Yeah. It was just

39:11

unexpected or water crossing a stream and

39:13

getting caught up. I mean, had that

39:15

happen. All right. But it's usually. small

39:17

areas where you got people with you

39:19

and you're you're just it's a situation

39:22

you quickly solve. Yeah and somebody yeah

39:24

okay I was just curious about that

39:26

I'm I'm sure Russ has been there

39:28

when a snowmobile or something has gone

39:30

into the water I would be shocked

39:32

if you I don't have a story

39:35

in here. I had one, on my

39:37

own, I've had one issue with the

39:39

water thing I could tell you about

39:41

later, but as far as, yeah, cars

39:43

or snowmobiles or anything going in the

39:45

water, my system. on law was driving

39:48

a snowmobile and the ice was very

39:50

thin up in Clokay driving down the

39:52

lake and they warned him right before

39:54

they went out there they said the

39:56

ice is thin in spots if you

39:58

see that it looks like the ice

40:01

has cracks in it you do not

40:03

slow down under 40 miles an hour

40:05

you continue on the path with everybody

40:07

else and you do not slow down

40:09

and she was I'm just gonna say

40:11

it dumb enough to see that the

40:13

ice looked like it was thin and

40:16

it started cracking some more so she

40:18

just stopped I would do that I

40:20

would I think I would panic right

40:22

away and go oh I was supposed

40:24

to go home we just everybody and

40:26

I say that I mean that sounds

40:29

kind of mean but we everybody said

40:31

over and over and over do not

40:33

slow down do not stop or just

40:35

don't even ride out there and she

40:37

stopped and it fell right through the

40:39

ice and luckily there were some people

40:42

watching from the shore. It wasn't too

40:44

far out and they helped her get

40:46

out and the ice was thick enough

40:48

to hold a person, but not a

40:50

sled. And it happened to be my,

40:52

what's that, nephew-in-law's or whatever, sled, one

40:55

of his newer ones and he was

40:57

hot. Oh, he was hot. Yeah, yeah.

40:59

But they went and got it fished

41:01

out, so I wasn't there when it

41:03

happened, but I heard about it for

41:05

months. fished out and came back and

41:08

I looked at it, you know, with

41:10

them when they got it out. And

41:12

they got it all cleaned out and

41:14

it was fine, but that's the closest

41:16

I've come. I did when I was

41:18

very young, probably seven or eight, I

41:20

was three feet in Detroit. I was

41:23

three feet from the bank and it

41:25

was one of those banks where the

41:27

dirt wall of the bank goes up

41:29

about ten feet, so you're not climbing

41:31

out of the water there, you gotta

41:33

go down. Yeah. I fell through the

41:36

ice, chest deep, chest deep. I was

41:38

standing on the bottom in my snowmobile

41:40

suit. 70s they were all that goose

41:42

down and there was no say I

41:44

still remember the trauma did now of

41:46

how cold that water I just can't

41:49

imagine it was like somebody took my

41:51

batteries out and I need my batteries

41:53

trapped in the water I can't imagine

41:55

it and I was standing I was

41:57

like I was like well I can't

41:59

I can't move and they were just

42:02

laughing at me going come on and

42:04

but I was walking we were ice

42:06

fish and they said you know walk

42:08

out and I couldn't pull myself up

42:10

on the ice because I was just

42:12

so tired and I just kept going

42:15

until trying to break the ice and

42:17

go and then finally I got close

42:19

to the engine or edge and friend's

42:21

dad just reached down and went pull

42:23

me out with dumb kid what are

42:25

you thinking there's a question here on

42:27

the chat from Ryan do you guys

42:30

know anything or I've ever dealt with

42:32

the holly TBI for the 4.3 v6

42:34

I think it might be discontinued I've

42:36

rebuilt my 4.3 and was just curious

42:38

about it I think he's probably talking

42:40

about the factory, the aftermarket throttle body

42:43

you could buy for it. And no,

42:45

I've seen them on customer cars that

42:47

came in that said holly on them

42:49

and they were stock, but they also

42:51

made a holly projection, which was a

42:53

TBI that would fit V8s and 4.3s,

42:56

2.8s. They put them on all those

42:58

little engines and they were great. So

43:00

either way, they were a good unit.

43:02

If you've got an aftermarket one and

43:04

they don't sell parts, you're probably going

43:06

to have to go back to a

43:09

car dash part, get yourself a factory

43:11

throttle body, drop on there, make that

43:13

work. Because I don't think they make

43:15

the throttle. Yeah, you'd have to find

43:17

maybe a part number on it and

43:19

start searching Google. Bang. whatever they call

43:22

it nowadays edge you know you have

43:24

to just start searching a little bit

43:26

and it might lead you to an

43:28

eBay listing it might lead you to

43:30

a car dash part listing it might

43:32

lead to was it the Dodge Omni

43:34

and the Horizon that had the Holly

43:37

factory throttle body you know it was

43:39

that they they delved into a lot

43:41

of stuff they were a factory supplier

43:43

on some of those things yeah we're

43:45

seeing even now with some gaskets and

43:47

stuff in our shop I ordered some

43:50

the other day and they showed up

43:52

and I got these gaskets from Auto

43:54

value which used to be startivents here

43:56

but now they call them auto value

43:58

they're a local partner of ours and

44:00

when I got them they had an

44:03

OEM number on them and I was

44:05

like this is weird and I was

44:07

looking the receipt I'm like yeah they're

44:09

on there and then I went back

44:11

to the website and had to look

44:13

to double take because the the OEM

44:16

it must be there is a BMW

44:18

part number and it must be like

44:20

a partnership where they're selling it. and

44:22

auto value is picked it up and

44:24

they're selling this part, but I've seen

44:26

that with other parts before. The OEM

44:28

makes it, but they sell it to

44:31

aftermarket companies, so it's got the same

44:33

part number, but the prefix is like,

44:35

you know, ACD would be AC Delco,

44:37

but maybe this is... D-O-R for Dorman.

44:39

It's just a different one, but it's

44:41

the same, the rest of the part

44:44

number is the same. You see that

44:46

with oil filters sometimes too. Jose says

44:48

2011 Silverado 5.3, my headlight flickers when

44:50

I put the windows up or down,

44:52

is that the ground wire going to

44:54

the frame on the passenger side? If

44:57

your headlights flicker when you're moving the

44:59

windows, it could be because you have...

45:01

An alternator that's not putting out proper

45:03

voltage or your body may not have

45:05

enough ground. Yes. Okay. So your body

45:07

ground may not be good enough to

45:10

ground the headlights or ground the windows.

45:12

So what I would do is I

45:14

get a volt meter, stick one lead

45:16

on the negative of the battery, one

45:18

lead on the back of the alternator,

45:20

and see what my voltage is. If

45:23

it says 13.5 volts, and then I

45:25

hit that window button, have somebody operate

45:27

it. If I still maintain about the

45:29

same voltage. But then I go to

45:31

the battery and I check and I

45:33

go, okay, I've got about the same

45:35

voltage there at the battery when I'm

45:38

operating the windows. But now I take

45:40

my negative lead there and I go

45:42

to the positive inside like the cigarette

45:44

lighter and I operate it and I've

45:46

got same voltage. Now I'm going to

45:48

take my ground and I'm going to

45:51

go between the cigarette lighter or the

45:53

batter or the alternator and I'm going

45:55

to ground right to the... the body

45:57

inside the car near a door. And

45:59

if I see that there's an issue

46:01

there with voltage, then I know I've

46:04

got a ground issue. Or I could

46:06

just do it simpler instead of all

46:08

that and get yourself a pair of

46:10

jumper cables, clamp one on the negative

46:12

of the battery and clamp one on

46:14

the body in some different spots. And

46:17

if all of a sudden everything's working,

46:19

I know I need to fix my

46:21

ground. We carry, we have a set

46:23

on the wall and they're like, you

46:25

jump cars with those, I'm like, never,

46:27

I use those to test for the

46:30

test for the test for the test

46:32

for the test for the test for

46:34

the test for the test for the

46:36

test for the test for the test

46:38

for the test for the test for

46:40

a test for a test for a

46:42

test for a, Jose, thanks very much

46:45

for the question Jose. All right, welcome

46:47

to the after show. Uh, you, Shannon,

46:49

I have a question for you. Yes,

46:51

sir. I hesitate to bring this up,

46:53

but it came up the other day

46:55

and I just had to, I, the

46:58

Pontiac vibe. Are you coming around him?

47:00

I think I'm more right now than

47:02

ever. I saw a brand new vehicle

47:04

the other day, stick around the window.

47:06

And... It was a little bit bigger,

47:08

but it looked like a vibe in

47:11

every way. The back cladding, everything about

47:13

it, looked like a vibe. This last

47:15

weekend, Russ was at the rodeo and

47:17

he saw a new RAM, heavy-duty truck,

47:19

and he didn't send it to you,

47:21

but he sent me a text. He

47:24

said, he goes, check out this truck.

47:26

It looks like a vibe. Shut up.

47:28

How dare you? I understand that it's

47:30

not identical, but the vibe was so

47:32

far ahead of its time in that

47:34

light. I don't want to go down

47:36

this road. It was ahead of its

47:39

time in its time, but then it

47:41

quickly became out of its time. Absolutely.

47:43

And now? Like an Aztec. Now it's

47:45

coming around. Although it's kind of cool

47:47

to see an Aztec on the road

47:49

these days, because you just don't anymore.

47:52

I'm not going to say you're wrong.

47:54

Okay, that's all I want. I just

47:56

can't I just can't get hyperly excited

47:58

about it Just and I'm not either

48:00

More cars try to copy other stuffs

48:02

look cool Just because you say no

48:05

and I we don't have to agree

48:07

Which Honda looks like we can agree?

48:09

from the back, from 200 yards away

48:11

with the lights on in the dark,

48:13

which one looks like the Lambeau from

48:15

the back, the Honda, is that the,

48:18

is that the, is that the Civic?

48:20

Trying to think which, the tail lights

48:22

that look like a, like a Lamborghini,

48:24

Uris or like a Lamborghini, or like

48:26

a Countag, or Kuntash. I don't know.

48:28

I don't know. You're willing to, you're

48:31

willing to brook this argument, you're willing

48:33

to figure out where he. Yes, yes.

48:35

When you mean a lot of newer

48:37

explorers coming down the road, you think

48:39

they're range rovers? Yes, yes, you do.

48:41

So you meet a palisade, Hyundai or

48:43

Kia Tellurite, and you think they're explorers?

48:46

I don't think that there's any mistake

48:48

when they make the lights of a

48:50

car look like another one from a

48:52

distance. Now there's another one that mustang

48:54

Hyundai. The Dodge Durango. The, are the

48:56

Dodge Charger, the rear end, the long,

48:59

the tail lights that wrap around, that

49:01

now somebody in, I think it's General

49:03

Motors has copied that on something. I

49:05

saw it the other day and went,

49:07

what? And I got close, I went,

49:09

that's not a Dodge, that's a General

49:12

Motors. So many of those things are

49:14

close, but what? Hey, imitation, is the

49:16

sincerest form of fire, right? If other

49:18

people like it, I guess it's where

49:20

we're going. I guess it's where we're

49:22

going. how opinions how styles change in

49:25

that the other day yesterday as a

49:27

matter of fact I saw a Silverado

49:29

and it had the weird front end

49:31

the that the new ones did back

49:33

when they changed it says Chevrolet sure

49:35

and I saw it and I went

49:38

oh that reminds me of when they

49:40

I haven't seen one in a while

49:42

but they had remember when they switched

49:44

the front end of those trucks and

49:46

they looked weird and then I realized

49:48

you know that was it It just

49:50

didn't strike me as weird now because

49:53

it's so common. I saw it and

49:55

I went... Did you recognize it? What

49:57

that is? That's a retro. And I

49:59

don't hear people talking about it, but

50:01

that truck... front end. I'm just thinking

50:03

of the one that says Chevrolet all

50:06

across the front. You look at it

50:08

in the, if you see it in

50:10

the dark and they're both at a

50:12

distance, that is what the 60, I

50:14

think Broughton had when the 64, with

50:16

the parking lamps that were on top

50:19

and the forward. Just thinking through it

50:21

too, yup. Yeah, it's got the retro

50:23

design, but people don't, I don't hear

50:25

people talking about that. But no, that's

50:27

what it is. First, I thought, I

50:29

thought, I thought, I thought, I thought,

50:32

I thought, I thought, I thought, I

50:34

thought, I thought, it's what it's what

50:36

it's what it's what it's what it's

50:38

what it's what it's what it's what

50:40

it's what it's, I thought, I thought,

50:42

I thought, I thought, I thought, I

50:45

thought, I thought, I thought, I thought,

50:47

I thought, I thought, I thought, I

50:49

thought, I thought, I thought, I thought,

50:51

I thought Well, no, that's kind of

50:53

cool. And then when I realized what

50:55

they were doing, then it became really

50:57

cool to me because I said, I

51:00

got it. It's... Once the shock was

51:02

over. Got past it. It's 10 times

51:04

the size, I bet. I was just

51:06

thinking yesterday. Cars, how many cars have

51:08

come and gone over a certain period

51:10

of time? Like I... There's been whole

51:13

models. When I left Texas... There have

51:15

been cars that were made after I

51:17

left and are now old and completely

51:19

off the road in that period of

51:21

time. As we see cars come and

51:23

go like the Aztec, we almost never

51:26

see one around anymore. On the Horizons,

51:28

very few. You just see one now

51:30

and then. There's one I see regularly

51:32

in a specific parking lot. And man,

51:34

every time I see it, it gets

51:36

better and better looking. So the cars

51:39

on the road today. 20 years from

51:41

now, except for the trucks, which are

51:43

pretty iconic and stay, I'm driving one

51:45

that's 30 years old, you know, they're

51:47

gonna be gone. Yeah. You may see,

51:49

in 10 years, you'll probably almost never

51:51

see a solstice, Chris. For sure, yeah.

51:54

In 20 years, it's probably unlikely you'll

51:56

see your generation Prius, that you're driving

51:58

right now, or an element. That one

52:00

might stick around, the Prius might stick

52:02

around because they sold 100 billion of

52:04

them and the style stayed very much

52:07

the same for like 20 years. But

52:09

I can tell you this, in our

52:11

shop, I used to have two a

52:13

week come in. Now, yours has been

52:15

the only one I've had in there

52:17

in eight months. So they are definitely

52:20

of that year. Right. Now, I've got

52:22

the newer style, that new space-looking thing.

52:24

I still get those. The prime, three,

52:26

four, a month. Yeah. The last generation.

52:28

The previous prime. Is it? I saw

52:30

him at an embraced church this last

52:33

weekend because the voice of the Minnesota

52:35

Vikings Paul Allen was there speaking and

52:37

Ron said right after he had greeted

52:39

me at the door because he's a

52:41

greeter there at one point he said

52:43

that he thought of us because a

52:46

new generation Prius pulled up in opposing

52:48

parking lot and he goes I thought

52:50

of Chris right away. The brand new

52:52

one. I was in that. Oh I

52:54

have to show you. I have to

52:56

show you. I have. I like the

52:58

brand new one. I think those are

53:01

great. And I think I have a

53:03

picture I want to show you. They're

53:05

hard to get. They're very good looking

53:07

car. Yeah. I have a picture of

53:09

one I want to show you because

53:11

there's something about it that is funny

53:14

and it freaked someone out. So I

53:16

have a picture of a Prius in

53:18

the parking lot of Costco. I wish

53:20

I could find it. I'm having trouble

53:22

finding it. And in the picture. You

53:24

can see a lady walking in to

53:27

the picture. And in the original picture,

53:29

she's in it and she's looking at

53:31

me with horror. And I realized she

53:33

thinks I hid her car and I'm

53:35

taking a picture of it. She's just

53:37

in a parking lot and I'm taking

53:40

a picture of her car. And I'm

53:42

like, oh no, I just, I have

53:44

this one and I was parked right

53:46

near her. I said, I have this

53:48

one, what do you think? And she

53:50

said, we. I've never liked a car

53:53

as much as I like this car.

53:55

And this is the new new one.

53:57

Yeah, the new generation of Prius. It's

53:59

a funny picture because you can see

54:01

her in the picture looking at me

54:03

like, oh no, what happened? Because it's

54:05

brand, she thinks she'll creep. Yeah, totally.

54:08

And then I talked to her and

54:10

she was even more like, I gotta

54:12

get out of here. But I was

54:14

in the parking lot. where the Plymouth

54:16

Horizon sits. The other day I was

54:18

in there and I wanted to take

54:21

a picture because there was the old

54:23

style Prius before my generation, then mine,

54:25

then a Prius Prime and a brand

54:27

new Prius. No way. All parked in

54:29

the same parking lot. No, it was

54:31

the grocery store. No. It was just

54:34

the grocery store and I was like,

54:36

oh, this is, this is my, look,

54:38

it's my whole life right here. It's

54:40

my whole automotive life. my what I

54:42

hope to be having in the in

54:44

the future and that that yeah I

54:47

think that and the the new pre

54:49

yeah I know don't don't at me

54:51

don't send me messages and laugh at

54:53

me about the Prius I think the

54:55

new Prius it catches my eye on

54:57

its own when I see it in

55:00

in my head one pull it beside

55:02

me and I like what is that

55:04

that's a good car and then it

55:06

oh that's a Prius yeah and that's

55:08

I've never had that reaction to a

55:10

Prius I'm like, what is that? And

55:12

I look and I see I read

55:15

the back of him like, huh? Is

55:17

it and it's a new one that

55:19

you just haven't seen? It's probably been

55:21

around for two years now and... He

55:23

a K-5? Yeah. Just new... There's a

55:25

few new ones out there and you

55:28

just don't see as many because they're

55:30

sought after and they just... Right. paying

55:32

more for I'm gonna buy a Toyota

55:34

truck instead of a Toyota whatever because

55:36

it's not made in America so ding

55:38

the price has gone up so where

55:41

we are already seeing the it's kind

55:43

of like the speculation on gasoline we're

55:45

seeing speculation on parts so we've seen

55:47

some stuff go up a little bit

55:49

but that I did something I was

55:51

gonna ask Shannon here so we had

55:54

we had some of that you know

55:56

that the T word the tariff thing

55:58

going on back in Well, the last

56:00

time. So some. prices went up on

56:02

some aftermarket auto parts, break rotors, air

56:04

filters, oil filters, those things like that,

56:06

which makes sense because those are Chinese

56:09

ones. And then some of the Mexico

56:11

and Canada stuff, well, guess what went

56:13

away? And the prices never changed. Oh

56:15

yeah. Did not drop a penny. They

56:17

stayed high. And was that because everything

56:19

else went through the roof? Or did

56:22

they just say, well, not a lower.

56:24

A lot of it's a lot of

56:26

it because they can. Do you remember

56:28

anything going low? After any prices. Yeah,

56:30

there's stuff that went back down. Like

56:32

big engines and stuff. I'm talking about

56:35

like, well, we got break rotors. That's

56:37

where we see it. Remember there wasn't

56:39

attracted that close, but I. Well, we

56:41

had stories. It always, like lumber and

56:43

everything. It seems like it always hangs

56:45

a little. Our price of break rotors

56:48

is our. Six seven years ago. They

56:50

went up all like double might have

56:52

to start inventory and break rotors again

56:54

No, because they got to be turned

56:56

and then that's not going to happen.

56:58

Well, remember we had stories about a

57:01

company that had the fuel surcharge back

57:03

in the day and then eight years

57:05

later people were going hey you're still

57:07

charging this they're like oh yeah we

57:09

forgot about that fuel surcharge yeah we'll

57:11

take that well fuel surcharge is a

57:13

forever thing now in the freight industry

57:16

and it just now it has a

57:18

they've created a scale and a and

57:20

a guide and a you know what

57:22

we get to charge it's just the

57:24

way it is yeah I got in

57:26

a small argument then gave up because

57:29

I had another customer walking in the

57:31

door with a big vendor in this

57:33

area that he knows. And I said,

57:35

hey, I bought $1,800 worth of parts

57:37

that were all electronic parts. And Art

57:39

Nordstrom drove down himself and picked him

57:42

up. And you charged me a fuel

57:44

charge. Well, yeah, that's normal. I said,

57:46

well, he also brought him back and

57:48

returned him the next day because. It's

57:50

not what I ordered. I ordered him,

57:52

you gave me the wrong parts. So

57:55

we brought him back, you gave me

57:57

my money back, and then we got

57:59

the new parts. Oh, great. So everything's

58:01

good? I was like, got all my

58:03

parts, but here's the thing. You charged

58:05

me again for the fuel surcharge. Well,

58:08

that's on everything, sir. I said, but

58:10

you didn't refund me my fuel charge

58:12

on the credit, the order I sent

58:14

back. Oh, we don't do that. and

58:16

I never left the counter I don't

58:18

get my money back for the no

58:20

that's just automatic it's just way it

58:23

is really and when you buy over

58:25

a thousand dollars parts your fuel charge

58:27

goes up so it wasn't like it

58:29

was a super minor thing but it

58:31

was something minor enough I wasn't gonna

58:33

argue about it was like boy you

58:36

you see him coming and going don't

58:38

you yeah but we've had that ourselves

58:40

too and we've done different charges and

58:42

it's always a point of contention of

58:44

what gets credited, what doesn't, and it's

58:46

constant in our industry, the types of

58:49

charges that we see, and we're doing

58:51

some of that stuff ourselves too. I

58:53

mean, we've never ever in our life

58:55

had a credit card surcharge until recently

58:57

at our parts business, but we do

58:59

refund the credit card surcharge if they

59:02

don't buy the part. It's not, I

59:04

didn't sell you anything, I should not

59:06

take any of your money. I see

59:08

some stuff on Amazon I'll buy that

59:10

is big stuff that and I've purchased

59:12

that because that was the best place.

59:14

It was sometimes the only place, but

59:17

you purchase it and it says, now

59:19

here's the deal. You're welcome to return

59:21

this any time you like in the

59:23

30-day window or the 60-90, but you

59:25

have to pay this much. It's free

59:27

shipping to get it to you, but

59:30

this is a 200-pound freight-shipped item. If

59:32

you want to send it back, it's

59:34

going to cost you this much to

59:36

send it back. You're going to see

59:38

more of that, I think. And I

59:40

did have to return one. They had

59:43

a new one. But you're the type

59:45

of person that has read every detail.

59:47

Well, it was there's so many people.

59:49

that click that box don't really have

59:51

but it was don't read those don't

59:53

read those details ignore those details they

59:56

just people buy by the picture and

59:58

the price and then when it don't

1:00:00

work they don't well I didn't know

1:00:02

that I was lucky with this company

1:00:04

they were so nice they said I

1:00:06

see you've returned this on Amazon if

1:00:09

you use their label we're gonna charge

1:00:11

you freight but if you wait we'll

1:00:13

send you one by email we will

1:00:15

return it at no charge because you've

1:00:17

purchased the newer model. I didn't realize

1:00:19

the newer model was available. So I

1:00:21

bought it and they saw that and

1:00:24

they said, we'll return it for free.

1:00:26

So they returned it for free, which

1:00:28

was nice. But I was willing to

1:00:30

accept that I'd have to pay for

1:00:32

return if I didn't want it in

1:00:34

the beginning. I need a pop up

1:00:37

that says, Chris, whatever box you're trying

1:00:39

to use is just a little too

1:00:41

big for that mailbox thing at the

1:00:43

UPS store. So just pick a smaller

1:00:45

box. Try to just cram a box

1:00:47

in there just a lit. It's just

1:00:50

a little bit too small. If I

1:00:52

just take these corners off, it'll be

1:00:54

fine I Got a new keydrop box

1:00:56

at the shop. Yeah, it's pretty modern.

1:00:58

I like it, but now I've got

1:01:00

this slot And like the old door

1:01:03

in the door, you know the flip

1:01:05

up. Yeah, but it's got I'm gonna

1:01:07

miss the old bird stopper in the

1:01:09

garbage. So I've got like There's teeth

1:01:11

and stuff in there at multiple locations.

1:01:13

You can't fish anything in it and

1:01:16

it goes inside to a locked box

1:01:18

too. So it's pretty state of the

1:01:20

art. But it's very narrow. I got

1:01:22

the biggest key file. That's what I

1:01:24

was just going to ask you. With

1:01:26

a ring and a key on it,

1:01:28

put it in an envelope and it

1:01:31

fits perfectly. Then I grabbed four other

1:01:33

sets of keys that customers have. They

1:01:35

won't go through there. I have so

1:01:37

many customers that drop their keys at

1:01:39

night and the envelope is just... bulging

1:01:41

because they will hand me not their

1:01:44

key fob and the key I need

1:01:46

to start the car but they'll give

1:01:48

me the key fob the lanyard their

1:01:50

favorite sports team a gummy bear doll

1:01:52

thing that's attached to it and cassette

1:01:54

tape whatever it is I actually had

1:01:57

somebody with a cassette tape with a

1:01:59

ring on time which is kind of

1:02:01

cool they're pretty light but they yeah

1:02:03

they'll stuff them in there and they

1:02:05

they would get caught in my old

1:02:07

box well they won't even go in

1:02:10

this hole so I had to make

1:02:12

a new sign that's coming next week

1:02:14

next week that's coming next week that

1:02:16

says Put your single key and fob

1:02:18

in the envelope and put it in

1:02:20

your do not stuff your keys because

1:02:23

it's not going to go in the

1:02:25

home And I even tried we had

1:02:27

one for a Volvo because that's got

1:02:29

a big old fat like a range-rover

1:02:31

thing and it fits fine But I'm

1:02:33

just thinking stuff and stuff in there.

1:02:35

It's just a little too big for

1:02:38

the you can stuff it in there

1:02:40

That reminds me of my uncle used

1:02:42

to work at a photo place place

1:02:44

called Mando photo photo the photo booth

1:02:46

guys and it when we went to

1:02:48

his work Everything was all the it

1:02:51

was all dark sensitive. So the doors

1:02:53

were like transporters on Star Trek. And

1:02:55

you walked in and you had to

1:02:57

stand there and then it would rotate.

1:02:59

Oh, those are cool. And let you

1:03:01

out the other side. Oh, that was

1:03:04

great. I really miss that. How did

1:03:06

you get there? Because he's got the

1:03:08

keys that go into the slot and

1:03:10

then flip over. I used to be

1:03:12

in like my own box that flipped

1:03:14

over. It was great. When I was

1:03:17

a kid, oh I had fun stuff.

1:03:19

Time to end this. All right. I

1:03:21

think we're going down crazy. I do

1:03:23

have to catch a plane yet this

1:03:25

afternoon. You do? Yeah. Where are you

1:03:27

going? You want to talk about it?

1:03:29

Just quickly I can. After the show's

1:03:32

off, we're going to, I got a

1:03:34

video, we're going to show Shannon, the

1:03:36

one I sent you. It's always, wow,

1:03:38

past is always available. No, I made,

1:03:40

my wife, daughter, and I are heading

1:03:42

off to Perump Nevada. We're going to

1:03:45

the Ron Fellows driving school and my

1:03:47

daughter, our youngest, Ava, is going to

1:03:49

do it because my other two kids

1:03:51

got an opportunity to and then I'm

1:03:53

going to be doing it also in

1:03:55

the Z06. class. And we're going down

1:03:58

there with, there's some people here from

1:04:00

Jerry's Corvettes in Lennox, Barry Kunken, and

1:04:02

he's got a group that he brings

1:04:04

down every year and they go do

1:04:06

different classes and so we're able to

1:04:08

get in with their class and so

1:04:11

we're looking forward to that opportunity and

1:04:13

this will be my fourth time down

1:04:15

there doing the class. And so I'm

1:04:17

looking forward to it. I don't take

1:04:19

for granted how much of an opportunity

1:04:21

this is because it's pretty cool. You

1:04:24

know I didn't have a dad growing

1:04:26

up. My dad died when I was

1:04:28

a kid. Yeah. And I've always thought

1:04:30

of you kind of like a father

1:04:32

figure. So I don't know how to

1:04:34

react to where you're going. I'm round

1:04:36

fell. I mean, now that all three

1:04:39

of your kids will have done the

1:04:41

round fellas driving school. There's just I

1:04:43

mean, well, here's the thing. I think

1:04:45

we're done. I mean, I think we're

1:04:47

done. Because I am riding the coattails

1:04:49

of my dad on this deal. Yeah.

1:04:52

Yeah. Because he had bought the car.

1:04:54

that gave him the opportunity to be

1:04:56

able to get a seat. You know,

1:04:58

I couldn't take this class if we

1:05:00

didn't have the car in our family.

1:05:02

Well, and your dad, he's always really

1:05:05

kind of been like a father to

1:05:07

me. So... Well, in this case, his

1:05:09

actual son got the seat. Yeah. Art,

1:05:11

I mean... And we're paying the difference.

1:05:13

Oh, yeah, right. There is a little

1:05:15

bit of money involved. I don't think

1:05:18

you're going, Chris. I guess not. All

1:05:20

right, there we go. That is the
