Hey, before we get into today's episode,

0:03

this is Elizabeth. I wanted to make sure

0:05

you know that 10X Mindset

0:08

is now open for enrollment.

0:11

10X Mindset is my newest

0:13

program. It is 30 days

0:16

of a singular action

0:18

taken each day with

0:21

the goal of 10X-ing your mindset. Because

0:23

here's the deal, so many of us are attracted

0:26

to strategy, and I'm one of those people. I

0:28

love a new plan, a new program,

0:30

a new idea. I look at all

0:33

of them. I'm super curious when my friends are

0:35

doing something new. But at the same time,

0:37

I know

0:39

that there's not a magic

0:41

strategy, and the problem

0:44

is our tendency to drift or disengage,

0:46

start strong and fizzle out, make excuses,

0:49

get frustrated, and those things

0:51

stem from our mindset. When

0:54

we upgrade our mindset,

0:56

we can make so much

0:58

more progress because our excuses don't hold

1:01

as much appeal. We can't lie to ourselves,

1:03

fool ourselves, tell the same stories we've been

1:05

telling for years that don't work. We

1:07

are better thinkers, which means we are better

1:09

problem solvers, which means we

1:12

get better results. So

1:14

10X Mindset is delivered straight to your email

1:16

inbox, a single action step,

1:19

different each day for 30 days,

1:22

that will help you become a better thinker.

1:24

No more of this sense, I don't know how to think

1:27

differently because my thoughts are operating

1:29

in the background. I'm giving you an

1:31

action step tied to mindset

1:33

upgrade every day for 30 days. I

1:36

also wanted it to be super affordable, and

1:38

it is that. It is less than $200. You

1:41

can get started today. When you

1:44

3:36

3:38

get started hello

3:40

everybody welcome back to the primal

3:42

potential podcast i am elizabeth benton

3:45

hope your have an amazing day to day

3:48

we are going to do again what we did last

3:50

saturday it was very well received

3:52

i shared with you all that i opened

3:54

up some free coaching slots

3:57

and they were snapped up a

3:59

me immediately, I wanted

4:02

to demonstrate what I think a

4:04

lot of folks understand but then don't

4:07

know how to change and that

4:09

is the fact that how you think,

4:11

your mindset, the way that

4:14

you are making decisions is really

4:16

at the root of why you're not making progress.

4:18

So often we default

4:21

to changes in strategy

4:24

because everybody's pitching us

4:26

a new strategy when the fact of the matter

4:28

is it's how we think that's

4:32

to blame for the excuses that we're

4:35

making, for all the exceptions that

4:37

we grab up and for the reason that we're not consistent.

4:40

So in this particular coaching call, I

4:43

was talking to somebody who was really having

4:45

a hard time remaining consistent

4:48

with nutrition and she knows

4:51

all the things to do but she found

4:53

that she kept letting herself off the hook even

4:55

though she really didn't want to let herself off the hook. She wants

4:58

the results and what

5:00

we really honed in on is the

5:02

difference between being impulsive

5:04

and being intentional and the way

5:07

that you can approach strategizing

5:10

from a mindset perspective, right,

5:13

thinking differently about

5:16

being impulsive, thinking differently

5:18

about being intentional and

5:21

also making sure that

5:25

self-discipline, self-sacrifice

5:27

and willpower are not what

5:29

you are relying on

5:31

in

5:33

your approach to food, in your

5:35

relationship with food. I think this is

5:37

going to be such a relatable episode

5:40

for people who feel like they don't want to miss out

5:42

or for people who feel like when they're

5:44

eating well, it kind of sucks

5:47

and it's not as fun as indulging. There's

5:50

so many practical strategies

5:52

in this episode but also really

5:55

at the root of it is the way that

5:57

you think about indulging

5:59

and the way that you think about these decisions

6:02

as they come up. Are you being intentional

6:05

or are you being impulsive and

6:07

how can you be

6:10

more intentional and less impulsive? Before

6:14

we get into the episode, I wanted

6:16

to remind you that 10X Mindset

6:19

is now open and not only is it now open,

6:21

we're currently in our

6:24

first week promotional period. So 10X

6:27

Mindset is usually just $197

6:29

but for the first week only, so

6:31

there are a few days left, you can get

6:33

access for just $147. So that's $50

6:36

off just this first week only launched

6:39

on Thursday. So a handful

6:41

of days left to take advantage of that

6:44

promotional price. You just have to go

6:46

to primalpotential.com forward

6:48

slash go slash 10X.

6:51

Primalpotential.com forward slash go

6:53

slash 10X. I will also link

6:56

that in the show description so you don't have to worry

6:58

about remembering it. Just head over to the show description

7:00

and click right there. I'll tell you this.

7:04

I see way too many

7:06

people struggling thinking

7:09

that it is their

7:11

discipline or it is their

7:14

willpower and it's not

7:16

those things. So many people

7:19

think that it's their addiction to food

7:21

and it's really not that either

7:23

in the dramatic majority of cases

7:26

or just this overwhelming

7:29

sense that you can't follow through or

7:31

you're super inconsistent. What

7:33

is at the root of it in almost

7:36

all cases is how you

7:38

think. And that's the work

7:40

that most people aren't doing because that's the

7:42

work that most people aren't selling, right? Everybody

7:45

is attracted to the new flashy strategy

7:47

and approach but at the end of the day until

7:50

you upgrade your mindset, you're going

7:52

to continue to drift. You're going to continue to disengage.

7:54

You're going to continue to make excuses and say, I'll

7:56

start tomorrow. This one thing won't hurt or

7:59

what's the point? Why bother anyway? That

8:01

is why 10X Mindset exists.

8:04

One of the big reasons that people aren't flocking

8:07

to this work when it is the essential

8:09

work is that they're not quite sure

8:11

how. Okay, I know

8:13

I need to think about things differently so that I don't

8:15

continue to make excuses, so

8:18

that I don't continue to do the opposite of

8:20

what I said I was gonna do today, but I'm not sure

8:22

how to do that because it seems like my

8:24

thoughts are so automatic. What

8:26

we're doing in 10X Mindset is we're

8:28

making it very actionable. 10X

8:31

Mindset gives you one action

8:33

step every day for 30 days. So you're

8:36

just doing one thing, it's

8:38

a different thing every day,

8:39

for 30 days to

8:41

get in the practice of

8:43

becoming a better thinker, of

8:46

10X upgrading your mind,

8:48

your thought patterns, the way

8:51

that you come into perspectives,

8:53

determine perspectives, settle on perspectives,

8:56

and upgrade perspectives. We

8:59

have this discounted price for just the first week,

9:01

so definitely do not wait. When you

9:03

sign up, it starts for you that very day.

9:05

So if you sign up in the next 10 minutes, you

9:07

get your welcome email right away, and

9:10

about two hours later, you get your email

9:12

with your first challenge, and then you get an

9:14

email with that challenge every day

9:16

for 30 days. There's

9:18

no Facebook group to be a part of, there's

9:21

no course center that you

9:23

have to log into, and remember to

9:25

visit. I wanted to

9:27

make it super easy, straightforward, actionable,

9:30

and also accessible. So you

9:32

can join at any time, and you can start

9:35

at any time, but it is this

9:37

first week only where you can get that discounted

9:39

price. So you're gonna go to primalpotential.com

9:43

forward slash go, forward

9:45

slash 10X, primalpotential.com

9:47

forward slash go, forward slash 10X. I'll

9:51

link that in the show description because I never remember

9:53

URLs when they're read out, but all you gotta

9:55

do is click the link in the show description. All

9:57

right, with that said, let's get

9:59

in. to today's episode.

10:02

So I have

10:04

counted macros, I have been with a coach

10:06

for two years, lost 30 pounds.

10:09

The minute I stop

10:12

tracking and I can

10:14

do this in my head, the weight comes back

10:16

on. If nothing

10:19

is going on in my life, I do great. I'm

10:21

a mom of four. My oldest is 23 and my

10:23

youngest is 15. As

10:27

you know, life stressors

10:30

happen and I

10:33

always tend

10:35

to fall back into this unhealthy

10:39

eating. So when

10:41

things are going great, I'm good. But when life

10:45

is life and things

10:47

get lifey, I don't do

10:49

well. And yesterday, like I say, I went to this parody.

10:51

I took my son to where he needed

10:55

to go, you know, walk three miles

10:57

feeling great, going to a Labor

11:00

Day party, walking in like with a plan.

11:02

I brought chicken skewers and salad. I'm

11:04

like, I'm gonna stick to this.

11:06

But

11:07

I start eating the chips and then once I start

11:09

my, alright, well, I

11:11

guess I'll start again tomorrow. And

11:14

that happens daily.

11:16

So what work have you done on

11:19

that thought pattern, on overcoming

11:21

that thought pattern? Because this to

11:24

me is not about chips and it's not even about life

11:26

being lifey.

11:28

It's about the way that you talk yourself into

11:30

it. That's no big deal. I'll start tomorrow. Mm-hmm.

11:35

That's a mindset thing. And so

11:37

I'm wondering, you know, I know you said you've worked with a coach for

11:39

a couple years. Did that include

11:42

any of any work on like

11:44

how you talk to yourself in moments where

11:46

you're justifying something that isn't

11:48

aligned with your intentions?

11:51

Not so much. I actually did

11:54

work with, I

11:55

don't think was a mindset coach but

11:57

it was kind of more about that.

11:59

mindset but it was just so

12:02

vague and it didn't feel tangible to

12:04

me. Yeah. So I

12:06

never was able to like really it

12:09

was just kind of like

12:11

not woo-woo but you know just I

12:14

guess reframing my thoughts but

12:16

I guess I just never have.

12:19

So when somebody goes

12:21

through this pattern that you're describing where it's like

12:23

if everything's cool I do

12:25

well but when life gets lifey

12:27

I don't or I go in with a plan but

12:30

then I don't execute the plan. The

12:32

first place that my mind goes to

12:34

is

12:37

what is the story that you are telling

12:39

yourself? Let's say like oh things have been

12:41

crazy with the kids. How do you

12:43

then link that to? What is

12:45

the mindset stuff happening

12:48

where you link that to and so

12:50

I can't eat the way I've been

12:53

eating or move the way that I've been moving

12:56

and you pointed it out in the party it

12:58

was oh well no big deal I'll just start tomorrow

13:00

and it's that

13:03

that story that represents

13:06

the greatest opportunity for improvement

13:08

and there's probably many of those stories

13:10

but when you're at that Labor Day party and you're like

13:12

oh but I was prepared because I brought

13:15

the salad and the chicken skewers. Well

13:18

you know yourself and you

13:20

know if there's a pattern of being like well yeah

13:22

but this stuff is here but I don't really want it so I'm going

13:24

to have all this other stuff and no big deal it's a party

13:27

I want to enjoy myself I'll start tomorrow. For

13:30

me when I go into a social situation

13:32

I know that my most effective

13:35

approach is not well if I just bring

13:37

grilled chicken and salad I'll be good. I

13:39

know that my most effective approach is to

13:42

say I know all

13:44

of these things are going to be here I'm going to have this but

13:46

not that and I want to make it so I'm

13:48

looking forward to the food situation

13:50

and I'm not putting myself in a situation where I have to

13:53

white knuckle willpower it or where I feel like

13:55

I'm missing out so maybe that looks like you

13:57

know what there's going to be cookies and there's going to be cake.

14:00

I'm going to have this but not that or

14:03

you know, I'm not really tempted by the cookies

14:05

and a cake But I do want to have a drink.

14:07

So I'm going to have a margarita, but

14:09

I'm not gonna have a margarita and shots

14:11

I'm not gonna have three margaritas. I'm not gonna have a margarita

14:13

and beers. So I like to go into

14:16

social situations With

14:18

something that I might indulge and

14:21

I'm gonna do it in a way that I still feel

14:23

really good about it And it doesn't mean that that happens

14:25

every time but if there is this pattern

14:28

of like, oh Well, I'll start tomorrow.

14:31

We have to deal with that because
