In early 1804, a man was shot dead in a London street, but not by a criminal, but by someone who believed he was firing at a ghost. The killing was rooted in panic and superstition as a white clad ghost was said o be roaming the streets. This murder of mistaken identity, led to a landmark trial that would challenge the boundaries of selfdefense in British law. This is the case of the Hammersmith Ghost, where folklore met fatal consequence.
