What is the NFP all about? This podcast will be all about film seen from multiple perspectives. The one thing that will be missing are actual movie reviews. There will be none here simply because there is already a glut of film review podcasts. What will we cover in the podcast? We will talk about film history, film theory, film technology and the film business. We will have reviews of books on movies and interviews with authors of books on movies. We will have different takes on the Hollywood film industry with such topics as; unions, money, mob influence, US military influence and much much more. We will take a global perspective on movies, covering a wide range of national cinemas, including, of course, the Canadian film industry.

Video interviews with full show notes at https://visualliteracyproject.com Conversations with both professional and amateur artists about ways we see the world and how that shapes the art we create. How to interpret, and capture or create an idea as a visual artist can take a lifetime to learn and master. Interviews share practical knowledge from those who have chosen to go deep and master their craft. We discuss ways of seeing, techniques, craftsmanship, commercial approach or personal philosophies learned through practice; things that can’t be found in any MFA program. This show is not aimed at art professionals. Anyone who is eager to grow on their artistic path will find resources, inspiration and ideas to exercise your curiosity. My personal reasons for hosting this show: Every person whether artist or casual observer; gravitates towards certain visuals either because the imagery is attractive to us or because it communicates something to us. That is our primary visual literacy - we can understand and communicate in that style. Then there are visuals that don’t resonate with us. Our response verbally or internally is something like, “I don’t get it, that does nothing for me.” In these cases; after a creator takes me into their process, I usually find an appreciation for it that I never would have come to on my own. The purpose of visual literacy project is to share those stories in order to expand the art and visuals that we are able to understand and appreciate. With that in mind, the best way to use these resources would be to watch the interviews where the images don’t immediately excite you. Or maybe the imagery intrigues you but you don’t know why. Let the artists expand your own visual literacy, and possibly yourself and your own art in the process.

"I started this series as a means for exploration, an exploration of self, and an exploration of the perspectives of other artists. This series is an unabridged documentation of conversations between artists. It’s a series dedicated to breaking down the barriers we tend to set up in our own minds. I want to inspire future creatives to have the courage to explore and experiment. This is about making dreams a reality and not about letting our dreams fall to the wayside. My intention is to give my audience a sense of real human connection, something that feels rich and organic. When I was thinking of a title I thought of the word “movement”. In relation to the Renaissance period in art, my goal for this program is to signify a rebirth of consciousness towards the way we look at contemporary art."- Yoshino (@yoshinostudios)
